Who is Aaron? Also with Raubahn I'm going with aether because nothing else makes any sense. -
3.2 Story and Discovery Thread: HERE BE [SPOILERS]

Succor is corruptible (reverse status in Lost City HM). The abuse of Succor by the Amdapori included giving life to the dead and to maybe inanimate objects. That Succor could still be used by the Amdapori suggests that it's a power the Elementals use but do not directly control. Unkalahai(sp) is a Void Mage? Think it was Ilberd picking the mask up at the end. More evidence of aether being used by non mages for shenanigans (Raubahn). My retainer knows White Magic, for me this makes limiting jobs in RP ridiculous (not that I intend to use it). Sephirot quest again reiterated that there are unnamed friends of the WoL that have the echo (not that we didn't know this but I'm aware there are hold outs on how viable echo RP is). Speculation: eventually we will go to the moon and do lunar subterranean from IV. Could have done with more Amdapor lore than we got but overall a pretty good patch. -
Considering how much of a pain second coil was on the edge of progression? I'd like to log in and dye my coat please.

Dyeable high Allagan is a craft. Why did you tell us to hold onto them then SE? I hope the hard to get mat is the piece itself, or that its a kit you trade with the attire for a dyable version. I dont want to pay10 million gil to some crafter for something I already earned.

Y'shtola wasn't dead. She was trapped in the lifestream and running out of time before she dissolved into it (which would mean death). I don't think anyone has come back from that.

Is your character open for killing/death? What about injury?
allgivenover replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
I've done it a few times, with overall mixed results. Despite that I'm still willing to let a character die, but I have no concrete rules about it. -
I don't think that's far off from the truth at all. I suppose most people know how to recognize their own names or words that have to do with their work.

According to lore literacy is the exception, not the rule. Barring the wealthy, scholars, and adventurers the vast majority cannot read. It's just that most RPers don't know this or can't get out of a modern privileged mindset that is surprised to run into illiteracy, so most characters are literate as a result. Even near feral wild backwood miqo'te often learned to read and write miraculously well at some point in their backstory.

Splitting it up is really the only way they could do it without cutting out large chunks of the original story and content, as a single portion would never generate enough revenue to make up for that obscene cost that this game is likely to run up. I would guess altogether it's going to dwarf XIII and XIV 1.0's cost. You just can't get that level of detail and fidelity and stay true to the source material without spending a shit-ton.
-
I think of XIII as automatic combat more than real time combat. Thankfully this seems to be a reworking of VX's engine, which is exactly what I was hoping for. That part where Cloud turns sideways to squeeze through a gap is flat out re-skinned assets from VX. I love me my turn based games (looking at you Dragon Quest) but I don't need to play the exact same game with better graphics. I want it to be different.

WoW Talk (Oh no...not this again)
allgivenover replied to Parth Makeo's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
A themepark MMO features linear paths winding around the content that is largely static. There might be different branching paths, like choosing one leveling zone over another, but despite that it's a themepark. WoW is and always has been a themepark. FFXIV is a themepark. A sandbox features some amount of emergent content generated by players that can change the environment. EVE is a sandbox. Archage is a kind of a sandbox, some call it a sandpark. How was vanilla WoW NOT a themepark MMO? -
WoW Talk (Oh no...not this again)

I just want an older school MMO experience again, where you have to group to do things. Where getting through the monsters and into a new town is an achievement. I'm playing Vanilla WoW to relive some of that, but I don't think they're ever going to head back to that format. I'm getting a little tired of the theme park model :C Having to group to get stuff done has nothing to do with a game being themepark or not. What you want is a game that has no solo accessibility, which was FFXI at the 75 cap pre-abyssea and pretty much every game that came out before WoW. Nah that's not true. I think you can have a mix. A solo player can get through eventually if they're careful and go slowly. In order to progress quickly you have to make friends and do things together. Vanilla WoW is really scratching the itch for me, LOTRO did the same at launch. I'm not sure what statement you're calling 'not true', the one where it has nothing to do with themeparks or the one where solo accessibility is nonexistent? Because both Vanilla WoW and pre-Abyssea XI had little in the way of solo friendliness past a certain point, and both were themeparks through and through. -

WoW Talk (Oh no...not this again)

Having to think a few moments ahead rather than spam buttons to keep people alive can be a little inconvenient I guess. An efficient player of any game that doesn't have XIV's GCD system has to think faster to play more effectively. XIV's system doesn't make you think anymore than any MMO combat system (If anything it's a safety net for people with slower motor skills.), and trying to fool yourself into thinking so is pretty ..well foolish. How is having to avoid locking yourself out of being able to time your heals correctly a safety net? GCD isn't a safety net, it actually makes everything MORE difficult, not less. I raid healed in WOW Wrath and XIV through Final Coil. In WOW I just had to stand in the right spots and make sure I had strong enough heals to make it, in XIV I had to plan ahead. -

balmung Seeking an Astrologian for RP story

I'd offer mine up but she's hardly renowned, and also isn't doing any divining presently for plot reasons. Although I've been told I'm fairly decent at the cryptic thing. You should contact Hoshichou. -

I've had a variation of this problem where if the first thing a character tries doesn't pan out the RPer seems to lose interest. -
RP Discussion: Dimensional Hopping and You
allgivenover replied to Warren Castille's topic in RP Discussion
Squall isn't white-haired. :3 Don't stifle his creativity with your lore bible thumping. You've no proof that Squall's hair wouldn't be white after dimension hopping to Eorzea. Stop hating fun and accept it. -
A baseball swing is performed by the batter. A batter is someone performing the act of batting. The act of batting comes from an old term that got rolled up into English ages ago; bat. To bat something means to beat, strike, or hit something (usually out of the air). It's not a modern term and doesn't require the word baseball to convey properly. So you'd write it this way. This will do, but if you want to give the exact mental image of the motions a baseball swing would be, you could do it this way, among many other ways: (that reads a little meh to me, but I didn't want to change your sentence completely, anyway) I prefer not to use modern real world references even outside of dialogue as it does a good job ripping me out of the scene. But that's just me and not everyone is going to mind.

Although plausible, the more important question is... why? What does being from Vana'diel add to your roleplay other that a difference that can't really be used by anyone else? Perhaps it's an interesting story to tell, but after the telling what can you do with it? In fact being from Vana'diel only really limits you. I don't see a reason for it other than wanting a special origin.
