One person is hardly the rest of the board. I'm interested in playing this game eventually, but I've learned my lesson when it comes to Bethesda's bug riddled launches a long time ago. Also I don't pay full price for games anymore. I'll wait for some sort of sale and then jump.

If the question begins with "Am I the only one..." the answer is always, always, always no.

Unnecessary Speculation Thread on the Origins of Eorzean Races
allgivenover replied to Mia Moui's topic in RP Discussion
Picking apart the wording further... It states the NAMES can be traced back that far, not Keepers specifically. The five races being Allagan created has been my favorite pet theory since I first set foot in Second Coil and saw all the chimera and lamia they'd obviously been tinkering with. I didn't really give it any weight until the Iksalion blurb though. Actually there are six races now (artificial voidsent == Au Ra?) -
Right, but when any other race wants to block out some noise they simply plug their ears. That's not something Au Ra can do. And for that I imagine a sustained noise that bothers or deafens other races might be even more debilitating for them. Maybe.
-
Anyone else think that Au Ra would be particularly sensitive to attack by noise? They can't easily cover their horns, and these horns give "advanced hearing". In fact many helmets don't cover the horns at all. How debilitating would a harpy screech for example be? What about a direct hit on the horns? Those things have got to be sensitive. Then there's the other bit; "enhanced spatial recognition". What does this mean exactly? So far I've only used this once in RP, a character tried to sneakily poke my Au Ra's forehead as she half-dozed on a couch, and I role-played that she sensed the incoming touch without hearing the character or having her eyes open. Although now I don't really know if that's what "enhanced spatial recognition" is meant to imply. Thoughts?

I know you're presenting this as support for roleplaying your idea (and yes, I did keep reading and see that you decided to drop it), but this is really even more of a reason to not do it. Why? Because if Yoshi and the team decides to flesh that out you're suddenly intruding on canon lore by being the "other single Garlean diplomat to Ishgard". EDIT: You can really cut out half of your "cool" factors and still have a character you find interesting, there's no reason for her to be so complex. That kind of character works well in storytelling, not so in roleplay.

The goggles are what sealed the deal for me. Though looking again I really can't see how she couldn't be a Lalafell this go around.
-
Pretty good chance this is Krile (who is either a Lalafell or a very young Hyur in this version)

The Stolas bit suggests it may be an Astrologian thing specifically, but it's hardly solid. It confirms that a Sharlayan Astrologian did it really.

That statement could be hyperbole, but grain of truth and all.

Ran into this today. Probably not something just anyone can do, but still nice to notice.

Boss or NPC fight lines that get stuck in your head

Seconding this. I enjoy them most when there's an angle that severely slows the development of the romance even if both parties are very into it. The longer it takes to play out, the better, the more in the way, the better. I know it's not always the case, but I find that roleplayers who want to race to the sweet and fluffy part have a higher chance of missing that intimacy IRL and thus are more likely to breach the OOC/IC barrier. Of course, that's not always true, it's just my experience.

RP alone isn't enough to sustain long term interest in an MMO. If you dislike the game it's probably for the best to move on. I had the same problem with Archeage, had plenty of good friends to RP with, but I just couldn't get around the game's many flaws.

Need Help Finding a Gaming Laptop
allgivenover replied to Sylentmana's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
There's an important question you need to answer first, and maybe it seems a bit redundant in the thread but OP's statement about just wanting to play a few steam games and MMOs push its importance. Does it really have to be a laptop? If you're in a situation where you're often moving your gaming from one location to the next, then yes a laptop is very convenient, but there are downsides: For the price of a good gaming laptop you can build a desktop that will blow it out of the water for the same price point, often less than the same price point. Even if building is not an option for you there are good pre-built vendors that will do the same thing for a little more (but still less than the laptop). You can't upgrade a laptop. This might seem like a duh moment, but in the desktop world you can put down $1000 (or less) on a very nice rig, then upgrade the graphics card three or four years later. I have several friends who are using an i5 2500k, a processor released four years ago mind you, that have only had to upgrade the graphics card once since the initial build to keep their desktop on par and able to play modern games smoothly on highest settings. Wear and tear. Gaming laptops simply don't last as long as desktop counterparts. All of the components in a gaming laptop are crammed together in a tiny case, and while they've gotten better at laptop cooling the truth is those components suffer greatly over time from heat. Repair considerations. This is related to the prior point but warrants its own bullet. When a desktop component breaks you take out that component and replace it, easily. When a laptop breaks the repair costs can be astronomical, and you can't do it yourself unless you've the tools, know how, and manufacturer replacement parts access. The trade-off is of course portability. If you're the sort of person that travels for work often, or visits family or friends often, or lives in a dorm room, then yes a laptop is worth all of the downsides. In that case using the model Aysun linked as a guide is a good start. -

When I first started I played much older characters (sometimes 20-30 years older), yet the older I get, the more I seem to want to RP characters on the cusp of adulthood. I don't know why exactly.

In my head-canon adventuring is a young persons game. Young people tend to not have as many responsibilities or obligations that tie them down, also in your late teens to mid twenties you are likely going to be healthier and more able than at any other point in your life. Not to say an older adventurer is unbelievable of course.

It was founded by Sharlayans "thousands of years ago", but only made its way into Eorzea when the Sharlayans set up a colony in Dravania. Three hundred years ago Adaunel the Younger convinced the Holy See to use a portion of Astromancy to predict the movements of the Dravanian horde via observing the Dragon Star. Despite this, the presence of Astromancy in Eorzea isn't very large. It seems to be a magic alien to Limsa Lominsa, despite that city state (and Eorzea in general) being a hot bed of diversity. Some have speculated that there are more than six, but we don't really know, in my opinion if they exist they are outside what's commonly taught in Sharlayan Astromancy. Levava talks about reading the cards during the Astrologian quest line, but she doesn't state which cards exactly or how many there are. Aside from the obvious use (casting spells), it's not clear what this is for, it doesn't exactly look like a model of the solar system or anything. If someone else recalls a lore tidbit that I missed about this feel free to correct me.

Tangeant, but while it is not exactly clear where the Raen live in proximity to Doma the fact that they've abandoned their tribal ways and names to take up Doman names and culture suggests that the Raen were part of Doma or so closely tied that they may as well have been.

It's all about the Universal Century for me. Although some of the spins offs are ok, none of them hold a candle UC for me.

I find it more believable that a person could be pretty good at several things rather than an amazing expert of a single thing. I feel like the motivation, talent, and innovative creativity necessary to go from "pretty good" at something to "amazing expert" is a huge gap compared to say... going from "novice" to "pretty good".
