The Coffer and the Coffin Cheers Night
Olofantur replied to faceman7381's topic in Chronicled Events
A big thanks to everyone who has showed up already, As per the usual the crowding cleared up pretty quick as people met and started to disperse in the grounds outside the tavern. After speaking with a few groups there has been approximately 78 unique characters in attendance so far. I've taken a good deal of screen shots [uI toggled off] and will be sharing them in an album here at the end of the night. Thanks again, and I hope anyone who hasn't had the chance will show up later on or at the next event! -
Hello Lysian, welcome to the RPC! Don't worry about "proper" roleplay, there are a dozen different styles and as many variations for the situation they're in! Anyroad its good to hear you've decided to take the plunge. In an effort to give you a sample of whats out there i've compiled a small list of links i'd like to share. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This Welcome post is from the RPC to all new members and outlines both the community history as well as some of the key features of the site, such as the wiki, the calendar and the forums. Speaking of Calendar, there are two events occurring on Balmung today that you might want to take a peek at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=dayview&calendar=1&year=2014&month=2&day=22 One hosted by the Harbingers of Dawn and the other being held outside Ul'dah at the Coffer and Coffin. If you'd like to learn a bit more about RP on a general level, want to know a bit about how some people approach it, or just want a reference on hand the RP handbook by Eva is an excellent resource: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 On to a few sample communities! In game there are quite a few linkshells all with different goals and methods but I have two fairly generic ones that are a good starting point for getting to meet some of the players out there. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is an OOC linkshell that boils down to a chat room at the heart of things. Talk about the game, a patch, a different game, a quest, a location, and oh so much more. If you'd like to get to know the player before the character, this is a good place to start! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is another OOC linkshell but with a narrower goal. To provide a way for PVE players to get their fix. If you want to farm a dungeon for some swanky RP gear, or just need help with the story line dungeons and don't like the random strangers of the duty finder, this is a good option. I hope you're able to find at least something in the above. As always, please remember that the RPC is here to help, if you have questions, comments or concerns you are free to voice them here, there are plenty of people who will offer advice, opinions or opportunities to discuss things both in-game and elsewhere. Best of luck out there :cactuar:

Where is it? Can anyone see anything? [just a little ninja humor, pardon my terrible sense.] Hello and welcome to the RPC! Great to hear you already have some friends you RP with, will they be on Gilgamesh as well? You'll find plenty of people who have skipped though the games you listed. I went from EQ to WoW to here as my big ones with a smattering of a few small between. Anyroad, i've got a few links i'd like to share with you just to start you off with some information. Please take note most of this is an extrapolation in a way of Xenedras wonderful thread you can find here: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1821 If you'd like to know a bit more about the RPC and a few of the tools you'll have at your disposal the welcome post found: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome is a great place to start. Maybe its been a while since you've Rped? or just want to brush up on some of the things Eorzea has in particular? the following Handbook by Eva is an excellent resource: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 [Theres a spoiler hidden at the top so you can see whats covered.] Or perhaps you want to jump straight in and get your feet wet in the big ol' RP pool, http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 "Coalition" found above is an OOC hub for roleplayers all across Gilgamesh of all different styles and experience level. A great way to get to know the players before the characters! Also, if you take a look at the event calendar posting for this Saturday you'll find two events being hosted on Gilgamesh! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=dayview&calendar=1&year=2014&month=2&day=22 Hope I haven't bored you to tears yet, theres just so much out there to see! people to meet, places to go, things to do! Please through everything remember that the RPC is here to help, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, voice them here and there are plenty who would be happy to give an opinion. Best of luck in Eorzea!

I'd like to second what Brynn said that "Free companies" are proper "guilds" [a Heirarchy, guild chest, banner, and all that.] where as Linkshells only have a member list and chat functions. [also Freecompanies can have 500+ members, Linkshells just over 100] Coffer and Coffin is a good idea is you want to show up towards the end as its winding down, or even stay more towards the campfire/the road to help mitigate how much text is scrolling through [i make the windows huge and still miss stuff Q_Q] you could take a look at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=2436 for your mentor [or Europa, but thats up to you] :chocobo:
-
I managed to get the Barons steed pretty quick, but if you got that damned ravenlord I WILL FIND YOU!!!!! But yes I would have never dreamed of bringing out my mimron head during RP or the bloodbathed frost brood. ect. I use my Legacy chocobo as my only IC mount, bit of a story behind it and I don't RP him with the armor or tattoo, just the "singed" feathers, a bit older, and squawky.

Understandable to want to have a good primary source as guide in game. As a note Linkshells are available at all levels, you simply have to be invited to one, [speaking to one of the listed members in game, or posting in the linkshell hall entry here will help set up an invite to one] They're really just large chat channels usually with a theme. Europa, Intermission, and other OOC linkshells are great for that "what the hell is this?" question period we all go through. Theres also this post of course where i'm sure Erik and plenty others would be happy to answer questions about the game. If you have any off the bat please feel free to ask! If you'd like some more lore resources or sites that tell you about the game there are two sections in Xenedras "what do I do now post" at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1821 Hope you're enjoying the Conjurers questline, it provides some excellent lore about Gridania and the magic of the world [Aether].
-
ooo~OH! great question Hrm... Either Prussia or Sweden. I haven't watched much of the anime, mostly the web comic for me. Good to hear you're going to bring some USH fun to the event calendar! And yes, i've come to putting [sarcasm] [/sarcasm] around certain statements because dry humor/ tone of voice can go hay-wire through text so very easily.

Greetings L'ashalia and welcome to the RPC! Erik is a great person to speak to if you're feeling a little bit hesitant about the world and Evie has made the excellent recommendation of the Lore train, I would also like to add that the RPC's own wiki hosts a fair bit of lore if you're willing to poke around [ http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page as well as character profiles.] There are lots of people of different experience levels, and plenty of us are from WoW as well so you don't have to worry about being "out of your depth" or anything along those lines, but I would like to share a few links with you that might help you along your way. This welcome post: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Should give you some information about the RPC as a whole as well as touching on a few key resources you have here at your disposal [like the preciously mentioned wiki.] There are also things like the event calendar: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=dayview&calendar=1&year=2014&month=2&day=22 As you can see from that calendar entry there are two events happening on Balmung this weekend and two on Gilgamesh. For Balmung the Harbingers of Dawn are hosting a post Valentines, Valentines event. The Coffer and Coffin is a monthly meet and greet for people of all experience levels to get and idea of who else is out there. They're both excellent opportunities that I hope you'll take a look at! If you'd like to brush up on some of your RP knowledge, or just want to know more about how some of us Eorzeans go about our business Eva has compiled an astounding amount of information in her Roleplay Handbook found: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 You can open up the index at the top of the first post to see what topics it covers and skip to things you think of particular interest. Its of course not a mandatory read, just a nice foundation I think. And now that i've probably bored you to tears, onto the communities! you mentioned being in the UK, so I have an EU centric linkshell to share as well as two that are more "universal" in their timezone activity. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=6316 "Europa" is an OOC hub for roleplayers in EU timezones, allowing you to chat and get to know some of the players you're most likely to encounter. You could ask them questions about their free companies, what events are happening, maybe sneak into an active area to see how people go about their business. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is like Europa, but less focused on timezone. It hold players of all different roleplay styles and goals, a good chance to get to know the players of Eorzea before you meet their characters. If you need help with dungeons, maybe want to farm a particular one for some gear, or would like help with some story line fights, "Balmungs Finest": http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 Is the place for you. An OOC linkshell dedicated to PVE content. As always keep in mind that the RPC is here to help, and as you'll no doubt fin filled with plenty of people who are willing to provide advice, give their opinions or just have a laugh. Good luck in Eorzea, and feel free to flag me down if you ever see me running about :cactuar:

Depending on your readership of the official forums [Or if you're present in the Intermission Skype] you might not have seen this. There is currently a bit of a problem involving them mechanics of promotion and demotion inside and FC. In groups with strict recruitment requirements this shouldn't be an issue, but I think its still a good idea to be aware. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/147528-SE-Please-fix-this-FC-exploit [all credit to Kyri for sharing it earlier.] In short, "promotion/demotion" allows people to promote above the promoters rank, this can create an issue if anyone but the GM has gil withdrawal permissions or access to tabs with rarer items. Be careful out there :dazed:

Hrm, well if you make a post to the linkshell page they'll usually respond with what time they're on, but if you'd like you can message me as well since i've got at least some one in each. I'm dungeon running for about 3 more hours after this post so if you're on lemme know and i'll stop after the next run to set you on your way. -
Ah! even better, its always so hit or miss if people have b-lined straight to thread making or if they've taken some time to poke around, so I just kind throw it out there. Hope you're able to get in without too much waiting!

Oh wow quite the resume! I was horde side on Steemwheedle as "Rattlejaw" a Undead Mage, as well as having a troll alt, then on WRA I did alliance [i really wanted to try a Gnome rogue/engi], Twisting Nether was more for shennaniganz with a IRL friend who played there. I haven't played since just after Deathwings release in Cata, and even then it was pretty sparse, a lot of people I had played with were either moving to other games or dropping it completely, which I could understand. Oh I totally understand that to make it an MMO would be daunting indeed, I almost don't want them to ruin it [i'm a bit bitter about Neverwinter, and DDO was... interesting.] I think the bauldersgate style adaptation is a decent distillation, but it certainly isn't a "pure" experience. [though can anything really live up to those kinds of grand adventures? Heck binding air elementals to a sailing ship then reinforcing it and enchanting it to fly is almost 'common' in Pathfinder at this point.] Nooooo problem! as a note you can communicate in linkshells and free companies even when you're "bound by duty", though you might already know that... either way! Glad to see you're interested!

Hello~ Hello~ Welcome to the RPC Austratus Never too late to make an introduction!! And its good to see a CoH refugee trucking around and fighting the good fight. While most of my experience is in the fantasy genre [both mmo and otherwise] i'll admit Champions had a certain charm to it, Kind of like early SWG. Anywho, nice to hear you've rejoined the game and are going strong on Gilgamesh! I'd like to share a few things with you that will hopefully help you get an idea of the community, maybe you'll meet some people, jump into a forum discussion, all that jazz. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This welcome post should give you a good idea of what the RPC is all about, and some of the tools we have hear for you to use in your quest for roleplaying [The calendar particularly, this Saturday are two events on Gilgamesh.] If you'd like to keep a little reference on hand, want to brush up on some terms, or see how some other Eorzeans go about their business the RP handbook by Eva is an excellent resource: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Though i'd recommend checking out the index hidden at the top so you can skip to the areas you find of interest, its quite the text! I've got two example groups i'd like to share with you that you might find at least a passing interest in. Both are pulled straight from the Gilgamesh section of the linkshell hall. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 "Coalition" is an OOC hub for players to talk, meet, arrange RP interactions and just get to know each other. Great at all times of day and will all sorts of styles you'll hopefully be able to get your feet wet here. And if you'd like to get your character into some interactions there's a "sister" group of a sort called "Limitless Sky" http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=2739 that serves as an IC hub of characters themselves. Buuut maybe thats a bit much. Please keep in mind that there are many here who are willing to help with all sorts of things, be it providing a critique of a wiki entry, a suggestion for a cast macro or just letting you know where theres a gathering tonight. Best of luck in Eorzea! :cactuar:

Hello Vic! welcome to the RPC! The place to post character information would be the wiki character profiles section [if you're looking to share and host data] or in the Roleplaying subforum if you're looking for discussion on the character. [wiki: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Category:Player_Character feel free to browse and snag a template from some of the other submissions!] Great to hear you have a lot of Roleplaying experiance, might I ask what server you played on in WoW? my main was Steamwheedle Cartel with a few alts between Wyrmrest and Twisting Nether. My experiences there were pretty long and I enjoyed it a lot, really helped solidify my desire to RP in MMOs. On the table top side, do you still play much Shadowrun? excited for the game [bauldersgate style] expansion release? Aside from the questions i've got a few links i'd like to share, you've likely encountered this information elsewhere or already have a pretty good idea of what they have, but just in case! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This is a welcome post to all new players on behalf of the RPC, taking a look through it you'll find some information on the community itself, some of the resources, and a few key members. One of the notable tools is the even calendar, and since i've mentioned it: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=dayview&calendar=1&year=2014&month=2&day=22 That entry is for the coming Saturday and it looks like theres two events occurring on Gilgamesh you could check out. If you'd like to brush up on your RP terms, just want to see how some other people are going about things, or want to know more about some Eorzea specific situations the Roleplay Handbook by Eva is an excellent resource: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770

I usually try to only do it when the post to the welcome desk... but I noticed I missed your entry back in January, so many pardons, heres a little supplementary. [since you seem to have already poked around and checked in most places i'll try to keep it short.] http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome ^~ welcome post with some RPC people and resource information http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 RP Handbook by the illustrious Eva covering a whole host of topics for the experienced and new. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" A good ol' fashion chat channel that spans the server and its peoples, shenanigans of every kind. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" A linkshell dedicated to PVE groups, Coil, CT, 4-mans for leveling and farming. aaaaaand~ that about does it, If you have any questions or want to know whats going on i'd suggest popping into the forums or checking out the event calendar. If you see me running about Ul'dah feel free to drop a message! -
Just a note, some things that are "uncommon" in comparison to some other MMOs, You also can only send mail to people on your friends list [which meens you're going to need a middle man to send stuff through alts... or an FC.] You won't be able to send or receive "tells" [whispers] while "in another world" [dungeons, primals, pvp] though you can still talk in linkshells and FC's Summoning your Chocobo pet [to fight alongside you, that you'll unlock later] will bunt you out of the dungeon queue. I'm sure Europa will be able to fill you in on more differences, and you're likely to discover many on your own [like how you can hire two retainers! aka. personal banks.] but those are a few that i've seen brought up fairly often.
-
You'll get used to it, the community here is [almost creepily] helpful, Feel free to hop into the forums and post longer or more detailed questions if you're looking for more of a discussion on lore bits, or all that jazz. Glad to hear they're helping out though!

ooooh~ nice one! I'm a big DA fan:
-
!!! am I really so predictable?! maybe I should get my Chocobo to start posting in my stead... On the topic of replying to linkshells, you can also [once you join one by speaking to a linkshell member and asking for an invite] use "Alt+L" to cycle through your linkshells [though I prefer the /ls# method as well.]

Hai hai Amy! On Balmung one of the great OOC linkshells dedicated to EU players is: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=6316 "Europa" with plenty of people and activity to keep you busy! Unfortunately I don't play much during those hours so i'm not sure what other groups to recommend or their level of activity ho ever I do have a few other things i'd like to share with you, [though i'm sure at this point everyone heard it enough to drive em' up a wall >_> ] http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This wonderful welcome post provided by the RPC to all newcomers tells you a bit about the site and the people who fill it. If you read through and click on a few of the links you'll find the resources here at your disposal, from the Wiki to the Lantern [An IC publication.] If you'd like to learn more about roleplaying on a general level and the Eorzean kind in particular Evas RP handbook found at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Is a frankly amazing source of information. The spoiler tag at the top opens an index that lists they key topics. You might want to skim through the areas you already feel familiar with if you're strapped for time, and its no obligation, just a solid foundation. But onto the communities! You already say the "Europa" listing above, but there are two more OOC linkshells i'd like to recommend. while they are mostly NA time zone people, the sheer number of them and the wonky-ness of many of our schedules should provide you with A little activity while you're still getting your foot in the door. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is a large community with roleplayers all of types and experience. If you want to get to know people before you meet their characters, just want to chat while fishing or want to keep up to date on Olympic scoring, Intermission is good place to be, heck even if you don't stay long term, many relationships have started here before moving on after they become more comfortable or refine what they'd like in their day-to-day. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is dedicated to PVE content. Need to farm Brayflox for the battlemage set? maybe do the Primals for you quest? want to get into a Crystal Tower raid? Balmungs Finest is great for people looking to group with people on Balmung first before resorting to the duty finder. Particularly handy for the lone DPS who doesn't want to be waiting through an age for the queue. Now if I haven't bored you to tears i'd like to echo the others in saying that "we're here to help." questions, comments, and concerns can be voiced here. Anywho, feel free to flag me down if you see me running about in game! though I might be a bit slow to respond during the next little while, I really want to try getting remote play on my Vita working :cactuar:
-
Sorry to chime in here, I was wondering what particular issue you had with my welcome posts to other individuals to see if an altering should be made [i, in the past, spoke with people such as Rinh Hallani to get her approval for advertising for certain groups in the past and was wondering if you took issue with me mentioning that you had started an LS]. I attempted to follow up with you in PM but am unable to reach you [Though you added me to your buddy list.] because i'm set to "ignore." As a final note i'd like to apologize if my "cheers" sounded contrite, I work with a few people from GB, and have picked up their habits over the years. All the best in your future endeavors.
-
Glad to hear it won't dampen your mood, while i'm not really sure what happened [i was watching the womens gold medal game, Goo~ Canada!] I think passion in desiring to provide for the community is a good thing! Hope you find [and i'm sure you will] plenty of welcoming people out there!
-
Aha! well another welcome to Balmung then! Good to hear you already have some one out there you can interact with, twelve knows it makes it easier to get in the swing of things.
