I am going to be a little bold in this reply, and I hope nobody takes offense. In my defense, I immediately state that I too RP an orphan, so I'm perfectly aware of the topic and know what I'm talking about. So don't take my reply as apathetic. Unless you have a RL friend who logs in at the same identical time you do and feels like being IC at the same identical time you do, to rely on other roleplayers as static presences in your IC life may be a lost cause. My character (Jet'a) has a story of orphanhood in his past, and I have even RPd some of it in forms of flashbacks during the beta phase of the game. At a very young age he and his family were deported from their homeland to be sold as slaves, and a few years later he was forced to escape on his own. For some time, he was a street urchin much as you are now. Sure, a PC mentor/adoptive relative would have been great, but I became aware that to request one out of other RPers would result in a huge responsibility for them, as well a great time sink. It would force them to go out adventuring less, to take care of me, and to do things that, while sweet and fun at a glance, will result oppressing and repetitive on a long-time basis. And since your character will not grow by the minute, it will be a long-time commitment. So what I did with my character was to create an NPC who adopted him. A Lalafell merchant with modest alchemist knowledge, who lived in Crescent Cove. He raised my character, taught him how to read, write, speak Ul'dahn, and even some alchemic basics. My character lived with this NPC until he was old enough, then the NPC gifted him with a recommendation to present Frondale's Phrontistery, thanks to which he was taken in as an apprentice Alchemist. That is when Jet'a's adulthood began. So my generic two advice here (and again, I'm not trying to be mean) are: 1 - Make your own paths for your character, without having to rely on others; 2 - Try to not mix OOC feelings with IC feelings. That tends to always end up poorly for you. You are playing a game, and while moments of pathos are normal, it shouldn't burden you to feel bad or hurt personally. RP is to be enjoyed, even while on moderately tragic roles. Think of all the dramatic movies out there, and the many actors who played those parts. There are many tears and sad moments, but I'm sure that each of those actors at the end of the day went to sleep with a smile on their face, because it is a job they enjoy. Roleplaying is no different!

Oh, um... This is embarrassing :dazed: but my curiosity brought me to check your doodles and.. it seems that both the links you provided (and that I faithfully pasted on the Opening Post) lead to the CNJ class doodle. The doodle for THM was never provided...! So it's possible that some of those who clicked on the "fake" THM link did mistakenly sign up for CNJ instead. Personally I have no characters entering the world of Thaumaturgy, but who knows, maybe someone did indeed sign up for it^^. -

Kiht's first Lancer class was very fun! I had lots of laughs playing the part of the troublesome rebel pupil^^ I hope to see more apprentices next time! -
That sounds so sweet and sad. Jet'a may be serious and generally detached, but he has a soft spot when it comes to kids, especially little girls as they remind him of someone. Maybe he'll notice her next time he comes to Ul'dah to sell his potions^^

It can, if you can RP a convincing one. I have an elezen that is still a teenager, and so far all the roleplayers who have met me have been reacting and treating me just as I think a young boy should be. My general tips, that I do put into practice when I RP Vincent, are: - Pick smallest size as possible, possibly zero muscle tone, and the smallest bust; - Be innocent; - Have some naivety; - Show a certain degree of immaturity. "Adults" concepts such as understanding the value of life, death, and other serious matters shouldn't be clear in your character's head. Accept that you'll have to say wrong things at times, and to not always make the right decision about things; - Try to not pose as a bad-ass or a know-it-all. Avoid showing off knowledge that would normally require more years to learn that your character has; - Avoid RPing fighting skills that go beyond throwing pebbles (Magic knowledge may pass, but you'd have to be at least a teenager, and to have a solid background of studying magic, and even so you shouldn't RP a powerful mage); - Avoid sexualizing your character too much. I'm talking about make-up and rather showy gear. These general guidelines, which of course are more or less followed depending on what exact age you RP and what background you have, should help you get other RPers to see and treat you as a child. As an extra note, it is general a good idea to fore-warn new people you RP with of your character's young age. I do that when I meet new people as Vincent, though I do my best to not be obnoxious about it.

Hello Rynn. As you may have noticed, we have started a series of mini-events around class-specific training for all RPers, and one of the most demanded is in fact conjurer lessons. A roleplayer has already offered as an instructor and currently has some potential dates scheduled for conjury classes. Please look up this thread for more information. Aside classrooms at Stillglade Fane, I have both Blue and Vincent Laucent as conjurer roleplayers, though Blue is still rather green (she ICly started only a few weeks ago). Vincent has some years of conjury experience, but he has so far always been holding back from participating on the battlefield due to his young age (he is 18 right now), preferring to tend to the wounds of sick and injured people from inside the walls of Gridania or the infirmary in Coerthas. Both are of course very available to talk, should you find them around!

It seems Nako has offered to cover the Disciples of Magic, though of course there is no limit of how many instructors we can have. Keep an eye on the opening post, because I'll keep it updated with names and dates at the best of my possibilities. -

There is a possibility that the survival techniques Kiht knows of depend on the use of the spear, or are someway still LNC-related. However it does not depend to me, it's her chosen disciples, so the answer will ultimately be hers. I can however see of how every disciple that involves being in the wilderness would give survival suggestions, so I wouldn't worry about missing them just because of what class you belong to. Also, as I've told to someone via PM, I want to clarify for everyone here: this RP has absolutely no IG requirement. If you want to partcipate to weaving classes but can't unlock weaver yet, you can still do so, and simply RP using tools via /emotes. Sure, these events are a good way to get some classes up, but it is in no way mandatory. Lastly, someone offered for a First Aid faculty, which seems to be generic and non dependant on classes. You could start by signing up for that one once the schedule is up! -

Also, as a side note about the locations for those disciples that have no guild. There is really no reason not to have guilds for them too. If anyone is interested in offering a housing plot (seeing it properly equipped for the specific faculty) as a guild, or related location, be it laboratory, observatorium, library or shop (The Eagle and Quill bookstore in the Mist comes to mind for diligent pupils seeking studying material), feel free to advertise them here for everybody to read! -

Magitek Engineering is actually used by Lominsan shipwrights. However, they generally bring in engineers from outside of the guilds (Generally from the Garlond Ironworks) in order to outfit their ships with magitek engines. Engineering wouldn't at all fall under the armorer's guild. If we were to be specific, it'd likely fall under the Garlond Ironworks. Some people seem to think the Ironworks is comprised of just Cid, Biggs, and Wedge, and thus avoid it since it seems like such a select group storyline centric characters. However, it is in fact rather large, and we met quite a handful of random engineers who were a part of the ironworks over the course of the 1.0 storyline. It's absolutely possible to be a part of the Ironworks and have no direct relation to Cid~ Merri did serve as an engineer with the Ironworks for a time prior to the calamity, though he's currently on a hiatus. I could see him picking back up the mantle to help out with instructing fledgling engineers on occasion, though. Right, I guess what I meant was a name for the faculty itself. Garlond Ironworks is a brand, not a disciple itself. But I guess we can just call it Engineering. I'll add it to the list. -

Well, you are a member of AoW, and we do have a theater of sorts. In regards to the thread, while it isn't something I could ever commit to full time (and neither could Merri. Too busy adventuring~), I'm sure he'd love mentoring others in everything Magitek when he has the time. Was a bit of a prodigy in his youth, and at this point in his life, Magitek is just an every-day deal for him. He's no Cid Garlond, but Magitek is like a second nature to him. That being said, he'd probably enjoy instructing a new generation of engineers. If you think that wouldn't fit the Armorers' Guild (They build ships, so in a way they are engineers), then maybe a Foreign Technology Research faculty? You give it a name, I'll put it up. -

After much thought I decided to put my RL horse training experience into practice and offer an alt as a chocobo riding instructor^^ I will need some time to prepare her, and then I will schedule the first class. This is ideal for: - Aspiring riders wishing to approach the world of chocobos; - Riders with somewhat problematic birds seeking help; - Wanna-be jockey riders wishing to get trained for their first race; - Military units in need of a license for their personal chocobo issuance; - Riders whose license has been confiscated for fines, misdemeanor and the like; - Riders in need of license update or upgrade (This will involve just a test). Stay tuned for the scheduling! ((Note: In order to ensure a relaxed environment for the chocobos, it is currently forbidden to attend to the class with mounts of different nature. Riding/Training sessions for extraordinary mounts will be taken separatedly as needs call.)) -

I will write down your name for the three DoM, though I want to make sure everybody knows that every faculty can have multiple teachers, so if anyone else is interested in doing DoM classes along Nako, or devote to the faculty of a single disciple of Magic, don't hesitate! Yes, the Botany guild got the offer of Mae (With her character "The Gardener".) She will set up a schedule soon as she feels ready, so be there for your first Botany class 8-)! If you instead wish to attend it as a teacher or an assistant of the teacher, talk with Mae via PM or IG, and I'm sure you'll work it out. She did mention she is open to co-op classes with other Botanists. And yes! Blue would definitely love Conjurer classes! Hopefully Nako or someone else will set down the date for a class soon! -

Yay! This will be a great time for Kujh'a, my lancer alt^^ He is eager to become a great fighter, but has a literal phobia for female Keepers I'll add your name to the list. When you feel up to try and announce your first class, post the schedule here! In order to set a schedule, I need to know what times people are available as I would want at least two students. Mondays during the evening PST, or afternoon on weekdays. That is when I am usually available. Or should I just announce a time, and wait by the Lancer's guild for a while at that announced time? I thought the way you handle scheduling in the Ishgard threat was pretty good, so you can probably do the same here, and I'll do my best to keep the OP updated with dates for the classes. It doesn't have to be every time the same day and hour either, as RL or other IG duties happen, and it's perfectly normal to have to move a mini-event, especially one that is relatively short like this. I will definitely be there as a student (as Kujh'a Lihzeh), so count on one student for sure! In that case, I'd definitely like to do Weaving once a month, perhaps the last Saturday of the month, at maybe 9 pm GMT (4 pm EST). I'm not sure if that's an inconvenient time for NA players but, if it is, someone else could always run another class at a different time? Great! I'll sign up for Weaving classes. You don't have to do them every time at the same day and hour, but if you can, by all means. And since you are an european roleplayer, it's only normal that you'd run on GMT hours. Weaving, huh? I'm sure I can find someone interested in starting the craft among my characters, so count on my presence! -

Thanks for your support! As I said, the schedule would be up for the mentors to decide, and it's the students' responsibility to be there in time for the class, much like in a university or college of sorts. If you ever feel like doing one class event, simply post "My character will be in X location at Y time for Z hours to give a class.". It'd work like any other Scheduled Event thread, so interested people who want to attend will likely reply, and if there's scheduling conflict, they can be worked out! As of now I'd like to attend any kind of class, I have characters interested in many and every disciples (I play 8 of them, so if one doesn't practice a craft, the other certainly does). So if anybody wishes to give this a try, don't be afraid! -

Thanks for your reply. I am happy to see I'm not the only one wishing to see other places more popular. I think starting these 'mini-scheduled events' in the guilds could bring them back to life a little, and it's okay if you don't feel like taking a teacher spot. I'm sure there are others who would do it! Personally, I have Vincent Laucent who, while young, has been a conjurer of Stillglade Fane for some years now. He could serve as a teacher or assistant teacher, but at the same time, I'd love to attend to some CNJ lessons as Blue, so for now my offer for Vincent's employment will be secondary. -
First off, no, this isn't an attempt to bring Hogwarts in Eorzea, so relax and keep on reading. This is an idea that has been bubbling in me for a while now. Back when I joined XIV, I had expected the Disciple guilds to be hotspots for RPers searching for talk-shop RP or generally finding others interested in roleplaying their same disciple. But alas, no matter for how many hours I'd camp the Ossuary, Stillglade Fane, Mealvaan's Gate, the coliseum etc. It just doesn't seem these places are much appealing to some. And it's a pity too, because I was dreaming to see thaumaturges studying together, conjurers preaching and meditating with their adepts in the Stillglade Fane, or pugilists sparring in the ring, preparing for the next tournament. Why am I always the only archer practicing in the Gods' Quiver shooting range? And so I thought, maybe there are roleplayers who would be interested, but are just not sure on where to go. After all, I too have second thoughts when I see a place always empty, and find myself forced to seek RP at the Adventurers' guild for a cup of ale and some friendly banter with the other patrons. So here is an idea, what if maybe we had people willing to take the role of "teachers/mentors/professors" of the many guilds out there? And no, I'd not force them to sit there all day and hope for apprentices to show up. Rather, I'd like to use this thread to schedule "classes", which can be weekly, or monthly, or daily, however it pleases the "mentor" roleplayers. Like real classes, they'd only last one, two hours at most, and.. why not? There could even be tests issued, be it practice tests to evaluate IG or written tests to post on the forum. The schedule would be up for the mentors to set up, and the attendance would obviously not be mandatory (though it may affect the performance during tests). The roles of mentors can be covered by multiple players, and the subscription to the classes is absolutely free. If you think you have a certain good knowledge of the lore around a certain art or disciple, be it purely in-game knowledge or also IRL knowledge (For example, IRL herbalists may have a good time giving lessons of Botany) that you'd like to share in easy, enjoyable pills, then you may be the kind of person good for this role. Here are examples of types of disciplines that could use mentors and classes to be had: DISCIPLES OF WAR AND MAGIC - Gladiators' Guild (The Coliseum); - Pugilists' Guild (Platinum Mirage); - Marauders' Guild (Coral Tower); - Lancers' Guild (Wailing Barracks); - Archers' Guild (Gods' Quiver); - Conjurers' Guild (Stillglade Fane); - Thaumaturges' Guild (The Ossuary); - Arcanists' Guild (Mealvaan's Gate); DISCIPLES OF THE HAND - Carpenters' Guild (Acorn Orchard); - Blacksmith's Guild (Naldiq & Vymelli's); - Armorers' Guild (Naldiq & Vymelli's); - Goldsmith's Guild (Eshtaime's Lapidaries); - Leatherworkers' Guild (Fen-Yll Fineries); - Weavers' Guild (Sunsilk Tapestries); - Alchemists' Guild (Frondale's Phrontistery); - Culinarians' Guild (The Bismark); DISCIPLES OF THE LAND - Miners' Guild (Amajina & Sons Mineral Concern); - Botanists' Guild (Greatloam Growery); - Fishers' Guild (Fishermans' Bottom); OTHERS - Chocobo License School (Bentbranch Meadows); - Minions Training School (Location to be chosen); - Gardening School; - Dancing School; - Musical School; - First Aid Training; - Engineering; Of course classes are not to be taken exclusively in the guilds, but it'd be good practice to -start- the class there for everyone to know where to gather, and them move to other sections (The mannequins out of the cities come to mind, for fighters). If people do not want to cover a static role as mentors but wish to give classes every now and then, they could be chosen as "guests" for special lectures. EDIT: Becoming a mentor implies in no way a major authority of the existing guildmaster NPC. Mentors would still be official members of the good, amongst the "seniors", but by no means superior to the guildmaster.

My current IC hotspots (will be updated as regularly as I can): notes: * The following hotspots are to be taken into account only if the corresponding character is actually online. * If you need IC reasons to go find a character, these are the areas NPCs would likely suggest when questioned about the whereabouts of said character. * If you see my character online, but at none of the corresponding locations, try send me a /tell. I could be doing OOC things or have IC reasons to have moved, but I'll always help people willing to RP with me and get introduced. Blue: (Currently living in Gridania) - The Carline Canopy ("I heard she has a room at the Roost.") - The Acorn Orchard ("She seems to like that place a lot. She spends a lot of time with the children there.") - Stillglade Fane ("She is a pupil of the Conjurer' Guild.") - Hyrstmill ("I have seen her here a couple times. She helps around with small tasks.") Jet'a Vann: (Currently living in Wineport) - Wineport ("It seems he works for the vicar there, now. As an alchemist.") - The Mist ("He goes there from time to time to resupply with alchemic substances.") - Ul'dah ("I think he returns to Ul'dah via Teleport every now and then to meet with his retainers, and sell his potions.") - Rivers and shores of La Noscea. ("He often fishes and harvests for reagents and ingredients. It's difficult to see him outside before the sunset though.") Vincent Laucent: (Currently living in Gridania) - Stillglade Fane ("He is a conjurer of Gridania. He spends a lot of time meditating there.") - The Carline Canopy ("He likes to assist new Adventurers. It's not uncommon to find him there talking with them".) - Coerthas ("He visits his old homeland from time to time, mostly to heal the wounded at the local infirmary, or distributing supplies in Camp Dragonhead, Whitebrim, or the Observatorium.") Chiara Foschiani: (Currently living in Ul'dah) - The Goldsmiths' Guild. ("She works there, though not as often as before.") - The Coliseum. ("I heard she has begun to take swordmanship classes with the Gladiators.") - The Quicksands. ("She sits there for a hour or more. It seems she is waiting for someone there, but usually just stays alone and draws.") - Stonesthrow. ("She never really enters the camps, but she often goes there to look at the refugees. Nobody knows why.") Dylise Rontremont: (Currently living in the Black Shroud) - Bentbranch Meadows ("Keep your purse in a safe place when you walk down these paths... She seems to have moved her ambushes there.") - The Lifemend Stump ("The friend of a friend swore he saw her there once. Bathing in the waterfall. I don't believe him, that sounds like a dangerous place for stuff like bathing.") - Lavender Beds ("I'm pretty sure she doesn't own a house, so I don't know why she spends her time here. If you ask me, that's kind of suspicious.") - Everschade ("Well, no. I didn't see her there. But I'm pretty sure I heard singing, and there's only a few singers in this part of the Twelveswood that I know of.") - The Carline Canopy ("She'll be there to eat sometimes, but never two days in a row, if you know what I mean.") Kujh'a Lihzeh: (Currently living in Ul'dah) - The Quicksands. ("He's a relatively new guy. If he's not lost around the city, he's usually there looking for work. He also has a room at the Hourglass.") - The Weavers' Guild. ("I think he has a friend there... or is it his partner? I've heard mixed things. It's a green-and-black-haired Miqo'te boy, with a rather quick tongue, but good talent for the craft.") - The Coliseum. ("He will be there watching the matches from time to time. He seems the easy type to impress.") - The Gold Court. ("Sometimes he just lays on one of the benches there and naps. How barbaric... Doesn't he know there are beds for that?") Clive Stark: (Currently living in Gridania) - The Black Shroud. ("The Ala Mhigan? Yes, he has been around with that little girl in tow. They seem to be looking for someone, but they are awful strict with details. I don't like the look on their faces. They seem up to no good.") - The Carline Canopy. ("They have a room there, so I think they are adventurers. They only stop long enough to eat though, and spend most of the day outside. Sometimes they take a leve or two, but it's rare.") - The Bannock. ("The white-haired guy always comes here every morning. He doesn't talk to anyone, and just trains on the mannequins for a couple hours before leaving.") - The Bubbling Cork. ("If they come here to eat, it usually means they plan to stay out of Gridania for the night. They've booked a room sometimes, but they don't seem a couple. They bicker way too much. Maybe she's his sister.") Valeria Idavoll: (Currently living in Gridania) - Gridania. ("The Maelstrom? I think she's working with those two adventurers... The blue-haired Miqo'te and the blond, scarred Hyur. She keeps a very low profile, but if you ask them about her, you could probably find her.")
