I currently have all my 8 characters slots full, but at the same time, I know that when the new race (and more new races in the far future) will be released, I'll likely want to play as one. So, when that will happen, I will likely resort to perma-death of one character in my roster.

Calling All Garleans and Ala Mhigan Resistance Players! [Balmung]
Blue replied to Tiergan's topic in RP Discussion
My Pugilist Midlander, Clive Stark, is a Ala Mhigan, but he is not part of the resistance. Since I decided that his age would be around mid/late twenties, I realized he would have been six years old or so when Ala Mhigo fell, so he likely is part of that generation of kids that got the Garlean brainwash. As far as he is concerned, he considers Garleans to be following the right cause. He doesn't believe in the Twelve, and despises beastmen and Primals greatly, just as his Garlean officers taught him. He was part of the Garlean army during 1.0, but since Bahamut struck, he awoke alone in the desert, with a tattoo on his forehead and no remembrance of how he got there. All his attempts to join the Empire again by visiting the several outposts in Eorzea ended up with the soldiers chasing him away and threatening to kill him should he approach again. And since then he has been living among the refugees of Ala Mhigo, though never sharing their feelings of revenge.^^ -
Now formal members of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, the group is now currently stationed in Camp Drybone, investigating on the large amount of kidnappings and theft of crystals that has occurred in the area. Minfilia believes this might be the doing of the Amal'jaa on their attempt to call forth Ifrit, and her suspicions seem to be right... But who is kidnapping the many refugees of Camp Drybone? The people of Thanalan seem too afraid and refusing to talk.. something is certainly amiss. With Clive constantly rushing ahead, wishing to channel all his fury against the beastmen, Blue has suddenly shown a sudden reaction on the graveyard of the Church of Saint Adama Landama... what is going on around here?

All lalafell beware... The Roegadyn huggers are on the way. And yes, I don't want to be hugged without permission asked. Hopefully the emote will have a confirmation window like Trade. I'd require one for anything emoting physical contact, from hug to slap and the like.

I think there is a general misunderstanding here. I am not trying to pose as an Ul'dahn NPC. Blue is a Lominsan character, who is travelling with her friends, and their stays are pretty long, because moving to another country is kind of a big deal. So I want to dress her in Ul'dahn typical attire, much like you would if you moved to temporarily live in another nation.

Yes! This is the kind of thought out suggestions I was looking for. Regarding the bandana, I went for it because my characters has only DoMs leveled, and DoH/DoL gear offers only bandanas (I think?). If I'll find a turban I can equip, I'll definitely go for that.
-
Oh, I know. It's very difficult to create copies of NPCs especially seen how many pieces of gear they have that we cannot equip (see this thread I made if you want to see some pictures). But I'm not looking to be a replica. I'm looking for suggestions for gear combos that may, if nothing else, blend in with their environment and look plausible.

Hello everyone, As I'm slowly re-entering the flow of RP from my forced hiatus (my harasser seems to have disappeared. Maybe they found that thread..), I have become more active in the RP sessions with my LS. Currently, our brave heroes are dealing with a crystal thief that stole one of our stones in Gridania and is now hiding around Ul'dah. Our group RPs moving from a different region to another with a rather realistic approach. We make kind of a big deal when it comes to, say as in this case, moving from Gridania to Ul'dah. The journeys come with days of preparing and packing, and the stay in the new place is long before we'll be again financially able to afford moving out again. So, obviously, our characters need to be prepared to endure the weather differences, and as such should try their best to be properly clothed for the occasion. So this is where this thread comes in. I'm looking for suggestions for equipment combos for ethnic clothing, namely this time around, Ul'dahn attire (though if you want, feel free to post attires you've made up for other regions too). Keep a couple things in mind: - I'd like my character to not stand out from the regular Ul'dahn NPCs, so let us try to come up with ideas that do not involve super exotic and unique looking pieces out there; - This thread should be of some help not only to myself, but to whoever wishes to RP a local, so keep budget in mind (yes, I'm talking about those lv1 gear pieces that gods know when I will ever be able to afford...); - Ethnic clothing is something that should be practical and have a purpose in its choices, so don't go just by taste and good-looks. Think of the weather, the landscape of the region, the type of roads and what shoes would be most practical to use, as well as the average climate of the region to decide what piece of gear would best suit a local of the chosen region. So, yes. Let the show off begin! Post screenshots, and write down the list of pieces shown there (and if you can, write next to them where/how to get them, or average price if they're crafted). This is what I was able to come up with: Head: Hempen Bandana (Lv5, crafted and cheap): The bandana comes useful to collect long hairstyles, reducing sweating, as well as saving your hair from collecting too much of the dust and sand of Thanalan's storms. Body: Toadskin Jerkin (lv29, crafted. Moderately priced.): Made off of the skins of the toads that lurk in Thanalan's creeks, this piece is light enough to not make the wearer feel too warm, while at the same time offering average protection against the thorns of bushes that can be found out of town, as well as superficial attacks of small creatures. Not recommended for fighting. Hands: X Legs: Acoltye's Skirt (Lv15 Dungeons, must be mage class to Need): The leather that composes this skirt is sturdy enough to endure the harsh climate of Thanalan while keeping legs free of movement. It comes with calf-high leggings that grant moderate protection from sharp rocks and overzealous snakes that may be lurking in the tall grass. Feet: Duckbills (There are several at any level.): A general type of leather footwear with flexible but endurable soles. It is not recommended to walk inside a river, but thankfully there are not that many of those in Thanalan.

I, for one, am one of those players (and this dates back since 2006 when I met Mithras, now Miqo'te) that do not like the Miqo'te = cat comparison, jokes and the like. Miqo'te are feline humanoids and I'll give them that, but they are not cats. When I meet someone who tries to RP a "pretty kitty" as a Miqo'te, purring and meowing and doing cute stuff cats do, I always like to point out that if they want the cat deal, they should take all of it. Including licking oneself, vomiting fur, and pooping in litter. Do those RPers do that? No. They RP an incomplete cat, yet label themselves as kittens. Even today, seeing Miqo'te players with names along the lines of "kitty" "cat" "meow" or "princess purry pinkypaw" make me cringe. So, back to your OP question... No. I don't think catnip affect Miqo'te. They are not cats.

My case is kind of special, because even though I am on Balmung, I don't really do tavern RP, and attend like 1% of the RP events that are scheduled on the calendar. I RP on a main basis in RP sessions with my linkshell, meaning we schedule specific slots of times and days in the week to meet and RP whatever we want to RP, be it in /l or in /s, we always stick together. Thankfully enough, even though there's only two EU players in my LS including myself, we're a close enough group, so we care for each other's time restrictions, and our scheduled RP sessions are almost always during hours that meet both NA and EU's ideal hours, not too late for the EU, and not too early for the NA RPers. For example our standard RP time is in the noon EST, which coincides with 6:00 PM my time. Unfortunately though, this is something that can be easily arranged only in a small group with few different timezones. A whole server is much more different to make ends meet, as there are timezones from all over the world involved.

The Crystal Bearers of Tales of Hydaelyn have arrived to Ul'dah! Who knows what adventures lie ahead? Will they retrieve the stolen Crystal?

balmung LF Orphans! And Other kids/teens!
Blue replied to Azureus Scipio's topic in Chronicled Connections
Oh, I forgot to mention: an established in-lore place where orphans do gather is the Acorn Orchard. The Carpenters' Guild built the playground for the orphans of the Calamity and the carpenters still take care of them and make toys for them all the time. -
balmung LF Orphans! And Other kids/teens!
Blue replied to Azureus Scipio's topic in Chronicled Connections
One of the RP groups within my RP LS holds an orphanage (which will physically be there one day, when an housing plot will finally be available (*shakes fists as the richer players*)); while they're all NPCs, we do RP a lot of orphans being there. A different group also hosts orphan refugees in Stonesthrow (the camp of refugees outside of the Gate of Nald/Gate of Thal), with Whisper Willow (a Roegadyn alt a friend of mine controls) being the leader of the camp. We don't hang in there much anymore as the older refugees we RP have moved to become adventurers, but every now and then we may pop in there from time to time. I realize I cannot quite offer orphans to use, but it's just a post to let you know that there are others like you who enjoy this kind of RP! Maybe one day we'll cross paths. -
Wow so many answers during my sleep. That was a long but interesting read. I really thank everyone for the support. A big part of my problem with this person is my own character, whose personality is very subdued, and aggressive upfront outbursts are very rare if not impossible from him/her. This sort of locked me between the two metaphorical fires, one being my will to not give this RPer what they wanted from me, and the other being the risk to break character by acting how they wouldn't. That resulted in my denials to always be polite, calm, and seemingly not effective for this roleplayer. I don't know, maybe they think that until the day I openly tell them to fuck off and get lost, insisting is fair game. Should they come and find me again, I will try and bring the rejection to the OOC level again, where I can be a little more straight (although I am also a very mild person, and making others angry/dislike me is always a throb in the chest for me, which is why I'm reluctant to block people). I really hope we can part ways in friendly terms, but it sounds like I'll have to cope with it, should this not be the case.
-
Even more than that, often times I feel like the RP side of the game is taken as one of those match-making websites. People seem to take for granted that if you are single, then you must be interested in having a partner, and that rejections and denials are only a "part of the flirt". If you take the rejection to an OOC level, what will usually occurs is the unfortunate tale of how this person's real life is deprived of any affection and how they would like to at least "make believe" in a videogame. I get that sometimes people may want to do that. Hell, I haven't had a RL/OOC partner since 2010, so I feel for them. But I'm sure there are better games and sites for that.

Hello all, it's been a while. Those few who may know me may have realized that I haven't been around to RP much of late, and it is this hiatus that I would like to discuss. I just hope it has no repercussions of any kind, since it involves other people. While my current real life situation is definitely hectic enough to reduce my overall gameplay time, I can't say that I haven't had the time to RP. I had it. I just was pushed away from it. The reason being, one of my characters, one of those I enjoy RPing the most, has become victim of a stalker. I'm not talking about an RP griefer; as the title suggests, this is an IC stalker we're talking about, though the situation is starting to cross the OOC borders with how obsessive the IC part has grown. This roleplayer was one that I met at random in the Quicksands (but then again, isn't that where we meet everyone?) during one of my rare stops there. Despite me keeping an overall neutral stance, this character has grown fond of me quickly, and the fondness turned into flat out obsession very quickly: namely, the second time I stumbled across this person. This roleplayer has so far (with one exception, but I prefer to think it was just a joke) kept the romance obsession towards my character to an IC level, and that is why I took no OOC countermeasures against them. I declined their attention several times, but this is seemingly only causing them to get more aggressive and determined to "claim" my character and build a relationship with her/him. I am keeping this gender neutral because while I haven't found traces of this roleplayer on the RPC, there's no guarantee they do not browse this site. I have recently decided to bring the refusal to an OOC level, and we had a discussion in tells about what was exactly going on between our characters and what made them act the way they acting. At that point I was sort of guilt-tripped, and the person began to talk kind of miserably to me, of how they can never find a partner that would stick around to them, despite them having tried really hard since the game's launch. This is unfortunately not the first case I meet of someone desperate to have IC romance with another roleplayer. I have seen friends stalked by other roleplayers ICly, and I also have been blamed once by another roleplayer to "charm" all his/her potential partners. In my section of the Balmung directory you will see that I wrote from the very beginning that I do not RP romance with people I haven't known IC and OOC for a very long time first (I find that a rather good way to avoid drama/malfunctioning relationships, and I'm also very shy to RP romantic interactions in general, so the confidentiality helps me), so I can't really say I'm the type that calls for this kind of trouble. I guess it just finds me, but I'm sure I'm not the only one. Be it as it may be, while this is not something that interests 100% of the RP community, the problem is definitely out there: there are a lot of people that seem to make finding a mate their only purpose of RP-life and get obsessed with it. I just would like to hear your opinions: is having a relationship with someone really that important for a character? I always followed the philosophy that a character is made by what he does or says, not the people he is with. So why is a vast majority of roleplayers (again I apologize if this is not how you feel about it. Maybe I'm just stressed by this stalking experience, but it really seems that wherever I look there are people RPing romance) seems to have their roleplay centered on finding/keeping/dealing with the betrayal of a mate/partner? I am of course not talking of cybering; I was lucky enough to stumble only in a dozen of those during this year of XIV, but in general, it really feels like people have nothing better to RP than discussing their sexual preferences, their mating partners, and a quite flavored plethora of topics centered on having sex, seducing, or dating someone else. As harsh as I may sound (and again, I apologize, I am not really myself right now with how fed up I am with this situation I'm in), maybe this phenomena may take great part of the blame when we wonder why non-RPers grief us and call us "ERPers". It really seems everyone in town has hardly any other topic to bring up. I mean, I don't know you, but in real life it had yet to occur me that a complete stranger would walk up to me and within five minutes of conversation is already filling me in with rather private information such as his/her sexual tendencies and favorite methods. Maybe it's a case of meta; maybe a lot of roleplayers cannot fully "forget" that they are in a videogame when they RP, and say IC things that are not quite stuff one would bring up in a casual conversation in real life. Just the other day I was heading to my inn room to store something in the armoire, and these were the first lines to fill my chatlog: A: "I want you." B: "Do you now?" A: "Pls don't deny me." I haven't happened to overhear that in real life, like ever. Maybe I did walk near a couple having a similar conversation in my life, but I'm sure they were whispering. Real Life /tells, or party chat, cause I did not hear this. Or maybe there is a note somewhere in Eorzea lore where it says common courtesy among strangers is to share what to me still pertains "TMI" and I missed it. Overall, I apologize for the rant. I am just waiting for this person to find another target and leave me alone. Hopefully once I get back into RP, I will return to pay no mind to this kind of stuff. It's just that right now it really strikes a nerve on me. :dodgy: Do you also like me RP characters that do not require a sexual relationship with someone to have their own plot and stuff to talk about? Please let me know that I am not alone.

I kind of just consider the term 'adventurer' in XIV as a sort of blanket term to apply to anyone that has the potential to be something other than just a mundane civilian. I wish I could remember exactly where I either heard/or saw this, but a conversation with a Dev at some point brought up that only a portion of the population (not including Garleans) has enough control over their own personal aether to use aetherytes/aethernet reliably -- this is why a PC will return to an aetheryte when KO'd/in critical condition whereas most non-adventurer NPC will likely die in the field and their body remains there. So, this makes me think that from a game-mechanic-explained-with-lore-reasons standpoint, that there is -some- other quality out there (not necessarily the Echo, because that's supposed to be rare) and that not everyone decides to do the "go out and fight monsters and go on fantastic adventures!" thing just because they have it. Lack of this quality (from a mechanic standpoint) also isn't a hindrance for people trying out to go and fight monsters, as that party you see during the missions revolving the first three dungeons illustrates. Most other games, adventurers just seem to be a portion of the population that go out and do things above the regular civilian norm -- they may not always be combative or magic users, but they certainly don't just sit around town, raising a family, working a regular job, having an un-eventful life. Overall agree to this. However, to a more simplified standpoint, I usually tend to consider (as much as it pertains myself and my opinion) an adventurer any person who did ICly sign up at any of the three registers of the adventurers guilds. Like any other guild, to be considered a lancer, you'd sign up at the Lancers' guild counter, and so on. I am to believe the adventurers' guild to be the same: if you want access to the privileges of an Adventurer, such as getting assigned Leves (tasks from citizens in need), and eventually be rewarded with a free room at the local in, then you should sign up to Momodi/Miounne/Baderon's register.
-
I do remember one of my characters being "ICly harassed" for being a non-adventurer in the Quicksands. Though she wasn't even there just for a drink; rather, she was looking for an adventurer to hire. The adventurer who harassed her told her to put her request up to the guild leve counter and leave the place for its rightful patrons. I don't know, it felt kind of mean... But really, these people who claim the adventurers' guilds should be used only by adventurers are often the same people who approve of non-adventurer buildings in the FC housing districts. Does not lore claim that the wards can only be used by adventurers? Yet there's plenty of pubs, theaters and whatnot. To follow the lore is good and all, but it's something that you decide to do, not something you decide to impose to others. When I decide to follow an aspect of the lore and see people disrespecting it, all I do is just change topic and pretend I did not see/hear that. It makes everybody happier, I'd say.
-
I don't know, that could still feed the urge to possess a FC house for oneself. I think if they looked the same, it could drive away from FC housing all those players who bought an FC house just for themselves, and leave it to actual groups.
-
Well, that's convenient. My main is BLM and my best FC mate's a WHM. Once she can finally get the patch downloaded, we will give it a try. Again, thanks for all the advice, it's giving me some drive to keep trying.
-
I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone and gather for money as I spiritbond, but if you recommend killing things, I'll do that instead, thanks.
-
Ah, I assumed that since Tier IV can only be melded into i55 equipment, then they could only be obtained by i55 stuff. I have the crafting classes to do i45. I'll give it a try, thanks! I assume I'd have to craft/gather stuff that is lv38 or higher, right? lv1 crystals wouldn't spiritbond i45 stuff, even if I'm a lv50 node?
-
I would do spirit bonding instead. You can only get about 600 crystals an hour, which will maybe be around 60k. A good round of spirit bonding can easily make you 200-500k. I have looked into it, but it says it requires to convert il55 gear and up in order to get the expensive materia. I can't make any of that stuff yet >_<
-
Again, thanks for the suggestions. As of now I have been spending the past few hours on crystal shards. It's not that big cash, and I think a guy believes I'm a bot now because of how long I've been here, but at least they're going up fast.
-
I appreciate the admittance, and thank you for your support. I will keep looking .
