Honestly the first thing they should do to not only fix the scalpers but also those who hoard housing is to limit housing to 1 personal and 1 FC estate per service account per server. The fact that someone on Balmung owns 18 houses is a bit disgusting and part of the problem. I'm ashamed so say I personally know people who have 3-4 houses at their disposal. Even worse is all but one of these pretty much sits completely unused and yet they hold onto it despite FCs needing houses, or people simply just wanting a chance at having one. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if we all don't know of at least one person like that. These people are a part of the problem and SE needs to step in and fix that so long as they decide to continue with the neighborhood set up. ((Don't get me started on when said people get upset that they couldn't get a Shirogane house on top of all that)) If they fix that along with adding more wards it will go a long way towards helping the situation itself. What's more in addition to more wards they need to make Apartments more appealing. Despite what the official forums are saying about apartments being sold out just as quickly as housing, we clearly know that is a lie since at least as of yesterday there were 200+ apartments free on the most crowded server of all thanks to Kilieit's dedication in checking those out for us. If they made them larger than a FC room and closer in size to a small that would help immensely, not to mention if they added a method for apartment owners to crossbreed plants for gardening.

Meanwhile on the Japanese Data Center there is a player selling plots for real money. He's selling a small for something like $500-$600.

There was apparently a GM post on the French forums in response to a petition they started there. According to the post they are passing all the threads onto Yoshi with the highest priority and ask a bit of patience so they can give an official response with more details.

Yeah I'll actually be surprised if Mediums aren't gone as fast as smalls, if not faster. The larges are probably the ones that will last for a slightly longer time just because of the sheer cost. It makes them a smaller target for most of the player base.
-
This is actually incorrect. The transfer system being put in place by SE will allow players to transfer to any plot regardless of housing division or size. So you can transfer from a small in the Goblet to a Large in Shirogane so long as you have the gil to do so, as well as moving from a Large in the Goblet to a small in Shirogane... but let's be honest here who is going to actually downsize? This will of course make mediums and larges even bigger targets for the FCs who currently have smalls as well. I already know of one FC planning to move from a small to a medium so there are bound to be plenty of others looking to do the same.

1.) Heart. It doesn't matter what other power you may have at your finger tips. If you truly believe in something than that will give you the strength to overcome anything no matter what odds are placed in your way. There is truly nothing more fearsome than someone who cannot be stopped because they believe in their chosen path. 2.) As far as I need to go. I'll go to the ends of the world or to the gates of the Seventh Hell itself. 3.) No. It matters not what I wish for, I do not want anyone to suffer for my choices. ------- 1.) Would you restore an artifact on the possibility it could better the lives of people while knowing if misused it could kill thousands? 2.) Your only options to save your friends are to either let loose a Voidsent from it's containment or make a deal with the Garlean's after it. Which do you choose? 3.) A boulder is baring down upon a stranger. If you act now you might be able to save them, but either way certain death awaits you. What do you do?

balmung Looking for more connections!

Rowena is definitely a wonderful rper and fun to chat with, not to mention is also really good about making sure to communicate things oocly when things to crop up. I'd definitely recommend giving her a poke if you need contacts. Warning all applicants with Carbuncles, your carby will become a plush toy. P.S. Crazy farmer fails to do the sheer amounts that she can handle in one go justice. I'm still trying to figure out how she avoids her brain melting from boredom... -
discussion Imaginary items and angry men, oh my.
Silmanos replied to Arashin Kujqai's topic in RP Discussion
I've had two characters that have used larger weapons, both a great sword and a lance. For both of them the respective characters always wore a harness or scabbard ((depending on blade)) across their back, though neither of them walked around shirtless. My current character's choice of weapons are a bit simpler. Emrys is normally seen with a grimoire which is attached by a strap to his belt, and for the occasional time he wears a blade it's in a scabbard attached to a sword belt. As for bringing it up in RP? It doesn't too much unless there is cause for it, such as putting the weapon away or drawing it. Every so often it gets mentioned outside of that, but that's due to either feeling threatened or being nervous. In regards to the 'mean' character, they are indeed difficult. I will also echo the requirement of OOC communication, as it will play a big part here to make sure people don't mistake your intentions. My own character can be extremely stand offish and cold, you just have to handle things carefully and in a tasteful way. That said you should never feel like you have to break character at any point. -
As far as the travel itself and going places mid plot I make sure my character always has the proper motivation and reasons to do any of it. First and foremost is to always make sure you have built in gaps between things happening because scheduling six people can be a challenge. Ensure each time the plot is rp'd that there is a goal that can be accomplished within the confines of the time you have. This allows characters time to do other things and recover from wounds they may have received. When it specifically comes to things like travel to Kugane? That is a bit different to be honest. No matter what route you take to explain the trip it is still a very big deal to travel that distance and should never be treated lightly. Your character should have extensive reasons to be gone for the appropriate length of time. Even if younuse aetheryte travel to get back the decision to make the initial journey should be a significant one. I'd also caution about the use of time bubbles and out right hand waving the time if you have an assortment of people who you rpnwith but don't all rp together. If you do so youncan run into an issue where one person acknowledges your character has been gone for two months or more and another who thinks they just saw them last week. Granted most I've seen use the same tactic I do when their character's concept of reality is being shattered, and just assume the person speaking has lost it. Personally my character is 100% tied to Eorzea and I will not be rping in Othard anytime soon. I refuse to break my character just to jump on the cool wagon. It's as simple as that. My character has no reason what so ever to go to Kugane and in addition has time sensitive things happening around him that using a time bubble or hand waving would break completely. I also know quite a few people who are actually rping out the time frame for travel accurately. One person used their pre sb prep and sb release pve as a hiatus from rp to explain that she was on a boat heading to Kugane, spent about two weeks there and used the aetheryte to return. I also know a whole group that is using the time between SB release and Shirogane release to rp them going to Kugane to set up a hq there. So there are people who are rping it out. As for the time of day, normally I use rl time as an indicator unless the scene calls for something different. The scene itself then sets the time of day regardless of the actual time anywhere. ((Edited, sorry phone was doing some odd things...))

From near as I can tell, unless Sounnsy has a lore post hidden away some where that I haven't seen, there is actually no lore reason behind those being the Arcanist spells. In fact there is nothing in lore that states an arcanist cannot use aspected aether. They already in fact do in the form of their carbuncles. In lore what defines someone as an arcanist is that they manipulate aether through the use of aether conductive ink and arcane geometries. I believe the actual reason behind the spells available to them in game is actually simply nothing more than game play. SE already had a dps class and a heal class based off of elemental usage and needed something different. I also am of the opinion that the person who designed Arcanist/SMN had a thing for affliction warlocks in WoW. It's pretty much the same reason Conjurers only use three elements in the visible game, Game Play reasons. There is nothing actually stopping a conjurer from making use of all of the elements.

I am going to have to agree with Killiet here, as this is sounding a lot more like "I am entitled to join in on all rp I see" and less about a polite and respectful way to approach things that might not always be open. In addition the responses in regards to private events run by fcs is increasingly disturbing as well. Based on everything I've read we should apparently be admonishing and ostracizing FCs that have grown to a size that makes the private channels completely unusable. Just like I said before sometimes there are times where it is impossible to keep the even secluded to these channels because of the sheer number of people attending. Also in response to saying that people and FCs running these events shouldn't be rude to those trying to walk up, no one is saying that they should be or even advocating that so I don't know where this is coming from. Most FCs will politely tell people who happen upon their events and try to jump in that it is a private event but they are more than welcome to watch. I have done this countless times myself as a DM, and more often than not the people do stay and watch and enjoy doing so. The DM team I ran with received several compliments from randoms who stopped to just watch, or even new RPers who wished to sit and learn how these things go. If you get someone being rude about you trying to walk up, then yes they are indeed in the wrong. On the same token if you get told its a private affair then you should respectfully accept that. Not everything is about you shockingly enough, and this selfish attitude that EVERYTHING you see must be open to you is disturbing.

As per the MSQ the reason an Airship is an unfeasible option is one the Garlean Threat. Despite the fact that you could skirt the land masses themselves that are controlled by Garlean forces doesn't eliminate the possibilities of running into their airships or navy. Eorzean airships are just not equipped to deal with threats unlike their ships. The second reason is a fuel related issue. There currently does not exist an airship of a large enough size within Eorzean control to hold enough fuel to make the trip. This one is a bit impossible to circumvent seeing as there are airships of a large size in Ishgard and under the control of sky pirates, yet apparently these aren't even large enough to make the trip. This indicates that it is most likely not just a size issue, but an engine issue as well. Eorzea just doesn't have the technology to create an engine that could handle it yet, whereas the Garleans do. This leaves you with the option of making the two month trip by boat, which is the shortest the trip is as the lorebook states this is with favorable winds. You could also possibly piggy back off of someone else taking the trip by aetheryte, but also note the MSQ refers to the sheer aether cost of doing so when talking about the aetheryte in Yanxia. Stating that it would only really be useful to those with immense aether reserves such as the WoL, so remember while teleporting is an option it is not something everyone can even feasibly do. The average person's aether reserves are actually not all that big.

In regards to fc events people need to realize thst while they may be private it is not always possible to keep them in private channels. This is especially true for the larger fcs. As an example I was part of a fc event that exceeded thirty playes. These thirty players were then split into three separate groups to accomplish different tasks. Now because they were larger than eight they could not use party chat, and the ls was for communication between the three teams. So where does this leave them in views of those here? Some of you suggested linkshells... well no fc is going to have four linkshells and thst is a ridculous thing to even suggest. Hells I have a single slot for a fc ls, the rest are taken. So they needs must use say and emote and yet the event is still private. Of course people can still attempt to walk up, but should be understanding and respectful. The fc of course should never get the response of 'Well if it isn't public use a different channel.'

Comparing this post to things being done in say and emote isn't actually an equal comparison at all though. They posted on a forum, in a sub forum specifically designed for a /discussion/. That is it's sole purpose, case closed. To say that the say channel and emotes are for the sole purpose of open free public rp is completely wrong. The only ones that can make that distinction is Square Enix, and last I knew they had made no such distinction. Using your line of thought anything that happens in say and emotes is 100% IC and canon thus all those Pvers talking oocly in say is also happening within view of your character. Does your character hear them? No, of course they don't. Which means not everything that happens in those channels is there for the sole purpose of you to rp off of. There is literally nothing wrong with people being polite and asking first, or if you don't at least make sure people can see your emote and acknowledge you as you try to jump in. This gives them the chance to politely tell you that it is a closed scene, or a chance for their characters to react to yours. No one here at all is advocating for people to just blatantly be rude and abusive towards someone for trying to walk up, we're just simply stating they have the right to tell you no politely.
-
Honestly 90% of the time I don't actually think people have an issue with walk ups as being shown here. I've found if it is in say or emote then it normally is fair game. Yet like everything in life the rule of thumb is not always the case. Closed FC events are actually a perfect example of this. You can only utilize so many channels for these things and depending on your fc size party chat is not one of them. Thus many default to using say/emote for most of it while dms use other channels for scene setting and ooc dm things. This of course leads to someone seeing people rping but it is a closed scene. And honestly anyone who says their fc doesn't make these closed.... well I feel sorry for your dms having to constantly deal with the added stress of including randoms. These being closed are also often coupled with the fact that we at times do have to use a spot in the game world to represent something else, for all that we have we don't exactly have everything that might potentialy be rp'd. So yes saying use party chat for private scenes or when you don't want to have interruptions is nice and all, it just isn't feasible unless its with a small group. Now of course this doesn't give anyone the license to be rude if someone mistakes it as open. As a dm I've always just sent a polite ooc tell to the person letting them know it is a closed fc event and they have always been polite about accepting that. Hells more often than not they stick around to watch. Outside of instances like this you should be fine to walk up to your heart's content if they are in public channels with their tag on. If they become rude over it... well do you really want to rp with peoplenlike that? The only time I'd really say for sure you need to send a tell oocly is if your character is walking up with the intention to detain or arrest them. Let's just be honest here, no one is really going to be okay with a complete stranger walking up and trying to rp lock your character by arresting them unless it's worked out so it can be resolved within a reasonable time.

Actually as per the lore book ((and the fact that you run into raen npcs in numerous places)) the raen have completely integrated themselves into the Doman and Hingan cultures. All of those raen npcs you see in Kugane are actually most likely natives of Kugane and have been there for a very long time. So the above is an extreme misconception born from those spoilers. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a raen from Hingashi in the slightest. The biggest issue I see is the whole arcanist, scholar, and summoner thing. Firstly the latter both require soul crystals to actually utilize those jobs. SCH soul crystals containing the fairy, and summoner soul crystals assisting in the art itself. SCH soul crystals are only found in the ruins of Nym in La Nosea, and she'd either need to be taught by someone who has knowledge of Nymian tablets written in the Nymian language, or have access to them herself. As for SMN those soul crystals have been found by Saint Coinach's Find but being a SMN requires you to have been there at the defeat of a primal to use their arts. This is not a common thing for most people to survive, though they do exist. My suggestion is to stick to arcanist as they do still have the ability to heal with the spell Physick, and ro set a goal to have her become a scholar by finding a soul crystal in rp. You can put it as part of her backstory but it would need to be written to accommodate it specifically.

Personally I don't think the aetherflow buff goes far enough. All it does is shorten my moments of praying by fifteen seconds when things go wrong. I haven't tested it yet, but with the pull everything mentality that still exists I still expect to see me sitting there spamming physick hoping it is enough to keep the tank up till I can use lustrate again. Which means while miasma II is nice it will possibly see little use. I really hope I am wrong and the buffs are better than anticipated, but after the hell that SCH was reduced to I am not holding my breath.

How is my name not Lore Abiding? I'm tired of being told it isn't.
Silmanos replied to Mother's topic in Character Workshop
See from my point of view it is just amusing when a npc crops up that has the same npc as a person you know. You share it with them, you both laugh, and you move on from it. It really isn't that big of a deal. The xaela ones were the most amusing by far because there are so many shared and not all of them the same gender. But again it's just the same thing. Share a screenshot and a laugh and move on. Especially when a lot of people use the random name generator in the character creator for Xaela and Raen you are bound to have A LOT of cross over. My first raen character shared the same last name as the raen from the ninja quest, I didn't know it when I chose it but it happened. Why? Because I used the random name button in creation and SE probably pulls from that very same list when creating NPCs. -

That's not what that word means. A xaela named after a ooc fox spirit is a pretty oocly idealised thing, if you ask me. Which is the definition of a Mary sue. But these are all just opinions, not facts. Conversely, I think naming someone after someone famous is just... normal. As I think it was mentioned earlier, wouldn't we all be Mary Sues if we have names from the bible? All your Joshuas and Johns and (literal) Marys are "Mary Sues" in this case. I lean towards Mary Sue-ism being less about the name of the character and more about the character itself in its abilities and forced importance onto the scene they are in. What their name is? Not so much. It could be an indicator of a Sue (comedic example: Maximum Edgelord McDeathmaster), but not always. Yeah, I don't think that one thing would title an entire character as a sue. Calling it a possible indicator is well-said. However, I suppose where the biblical name comparison doesn't quite match up is in that biblical names were bread and butter generic from the start and still are today, while you might be hard pressed to find someone who would go out of their way to name their child after the mythical fox spirit in real life, something like Amaterasu; commonality, I guess? Doesnt mean someone would never have done it, of course. Hard to describe. As someone who has met people named Aphrodite, Thor, Morrigan, and other such diety based names I would beg to differ. I'd actually be surprised if someone hasn't at all be named after said fox spirit irl. I really see no issue with it being used, then again my character's name is Emrys. It's an actual celtic name, but it is also associated with Merlin. As has been stated if we avoid using these names well... we're just needlessly limiting ourselves. There is nothing lore breaking about the OP's name as it fits the Doman/Raen conventions and since it existed before the SB mention of it I see no issue why any would say otherwise. -
Somemjobs actually require a soulstone in order to learn. Jobs such as Dragoon and Black Mage are perfect examples. Dragoon requires it in order to properly jump and Black Mage requires it otherwise you will combust. I can't say for certain about Red Mage just yet because I haven't gotten too far but considering it is a dsicipline in which you cast Black and White Magic with your personal reserves I'd imagine there is potential you might need to avoid combustion like Black Mage. Someone who has completed the quests would know more though.

So here is the response to this. Since it does contain spoilers to the SB SMN quests I'm sticking it in a spoiler tag.
