The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Valence replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Not saying that he wasn't being bad and all, but losing 20% DPS on your tank is almost negligible and should maybe account for like 20% of 15% of your total DPS members (which is ridiculous and you shouldn't even be able to notice). No, if your DPS was that slow, then you don't have to look further than your DPS members, and/or if your healer wasn't DPSing at all (maybe busy healing a squishy tank too?). 15 - 20% of 15% of dps is still a lot, especially when I ask a tank in GRIT & Dark side can hit a 3k crit every blue moon and average around 600 or higher dps. Let your next tank only spam nothing but their aggro aoe in tank stance and you'll easily notice everything dies slower. Even if your dps is a ninja and a summoner Mathematically not correct though. 20% of 15% amounts to 3% total. Crits or not crits. I'm not saying that it's not going slower without it, but that sounds very, very negligible. If things are slow, then it's the DPS and/or the heal not doing their jobs properly, or as I said, the tank being super squishy. But anyway. Yeah. Why would a DRK not use all his tools.... -

I guess tank and rogue were both ashamed of themselves... 8-) -

I see... My misconception probably came out of the fact that I did Syrcus when I was a lot less lore experienced than now, which probably left me bad memories and interpretations that sticked after.

If the Void has no aether (explaining the voidsent infinie hunger for it), how can we use our own powers once inside, like in World of Darkness? Own personal reserves? Must be hard for conjurers and other classes that take it from around them... More importantly, if the Void has no aether, then why the hell did the Allagan open a rift with their crystal tower to get access to an unlimited quantity of energy? Is there a Void energy of some kind, as many things seem to point to (since voidsent obviously have power)?

[02-28-2016] RPC Feedback Survey
Valence replied to Unnamed Mercenary's topic in Forum Announcements
The only thing I felt that missed heavily was an option "no opinion"... You always have to choose, even when you don't know... -
I'm bumping it just in case...

I for one find Aymeric voice really... out of place. He sounds (and looks) more like a posterboy model with vaguely (and annoyingly) sexual overtones to me. Not especially the charisma I would expect of a commander. Don't get me wrong though, I don't find it bad. I think the dubbing is quite good, just not always fitting at all. But I think that's more the character that is not fitting to his role than anything else.

Sure, it can be interesting to have it as a tabletop format. I'm open to any ideas. ( it's not just an event though, it's why i'm posting it here in connections )

Hi, I was wondering if there is anyone around with characters that are very much into (or interested in) racing with manacutters and airship stuff, as seen and inspired by what we have seen in the introductory cutscenes to Void Ark? I am starting to make my own dig into that kind of hobby (it can also get further than just a hobby!). Be it starting from just racing around alone out of a need for speed and freedom, or more serious stuff like racing with other people, organizing things like that, or even more shady business dealing with manacutters... I'm all for it! Why pinnaces? Cause I like the idea that those small airships are like pinnaces and can be attached to bigger and slower airships for long-haul stuff and so on. I like the idea that interested FCs or skyfolks groups could come and compete or do things around those manacutters, operating out of their huge airships (LAUNCH THE MANACUTTERS CAPTAIN!). I feel there is a lot to create and do around that subject, especially since those are Garlond Ironworks patented, which makes them available in limited quantity in Eorzea without having to bend the lore like hell or just feel godmoddy... What i'm looking for: - RP stuff around that. Be it mechanics and engineering stuff, aeronautics design, pilot tales, filthy piwates, (biker gangs?), whatever fits the bill. - A way for my character to be a bad girl and explore that punk/rebellious attitude of hers. - Could be a way to create a fictionnal RP entity like a racing league or so... Something underground hidden behind a totally legitimate facade, yes sir. What i'm not interested in: - Godmode. Special snowflakism. It's a mellow little idea and i'm not interested into super exagerated shonen style racing (see, ala prince of tennis in a nutshell). Couldn't care less if your character is an awesome pilot that wins everything. - Not very much attracted by the racing act in itself. It can be probably nice and all, but considering the overall slow speed of the things and their underwhelming racing feel ingame (as opposed to these VA cutscenes...), I don't really see that as a the end of all things here. If people have fun with it though, sure, go for it. I think it could even be funnier in tabletop/roll mode actually! But I am mostly aiming for the RP around it because that's where the opportunities lie! Tell me what you think! (besides the obvious "Now that's 'cutter racing!")

balmung Garlean Defector LF Connections!
Valence replied to voidVirago's topic in Chronicled Connections
Hello, I'm always interested in garlean contacts, especially magitek. Feel free to poke me ingame! I just had a question... What do you mean by "powerful arcanist"? -
There sure is a gap in quality between 2.0 and 3.0. I am very, very pleased with the VA since then. Writing could be better sure, but there is also a gap there. 2.0 was ten times worse. The story is starting to get me hooked, which wasn't always the case before. Yes. And their accent when pronouncing those names is atrocious.

As long as tanks didn't get penalized in the way that they actually spent a lot of time getting those STR gear... I mean, tanks get reimbursed or helped shifting to VIT, I hope? If yes, then it's all good to me... Also, is that such a bad thing that the game high end content gets a bit harder? Especially when SE said clearly that they calibrate their tests on that only with taking DPS from the DPS jobs into account? So, that's hardly unfeasible.

Mh, well, if you need connections or more even if I can't join the FC, don't hesitate to poke me for whatever IC stuff around it! My character would be a sucker for everything magitek and already lives in the merc environment.
-
Good luck, that sure would have been something that would have interested me!

Hi, We are still recruiting, we have regular little events and very proactive, close-knit members, so don't hesitate to poke us if you are interested!

Are some of them currently associated with the saucer out of curiosity?

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Valence replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
To be clear I have nothing against tanks willing to go full DPS if they can manage the enmity and all! -

Valence replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
If he's not willing to provide marked targets since it's like, his job and all, then he can switch to tanking stance and do his full pull job, is my stance on that most of the times. Fed up with spoiled brat tanks that want to go faster in DPS mode without giving themselves the means to do it because of lazyness. -
Thaumaturgy and the Order of Nald'Thal (Lore Questions)
Valence replied to 111's topic in Lore Discussion
I quite like what they did in 1.0 with thaumaturges... Well since aether as said above is just interchangeable bricks I guess that it can be indeed explained that before the coco brothers, the doctrine and teachings were focusing on Umbral/Astal magic and then, they changed it to elementally aspected elements of destruction (fire, thunder, etc). The same way conjurers focus on the other elements. I find that interesting because it allows us as RPers to use other kinds of magic like Umbral and Astral magic since they are totally legit in lore. It allows for a certain flexibility/granularity. Do what you will with legos and all. -
Thaumaturgy and the Order of Nald'Thal (Lore Questions)
Valence replied to 111's topic in Lore Discussion
There doesn't seem to be a lot of difference in the lore between both in terms of what they can do, the difference is just how they access the aether, their doctrines, traditions, etc.. -
balmung [Event over!] "So... do you wanna buy some drugs?"
Valence replied to Pahn Dotharl's topic in Chronicled Connections
Sounds good... If he isn't afraid of magicks with random results that is!
