  1. Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC! The best way to hit the ground running in my experience has been to utilize the Making Connections forum here on the RPC. You can sort of "spear fish" for characters that would match up pretty well with your own, which'll give you more story potential than random RP typically provides. Still, wandering around with the RP tag on and interacting with other people who're tagged is a good way to cut your teeth too! Regardless, best of luck over on Mateus!
  2. Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC and to FFXIV! Miqo'te master race. *cough* It can definitely be pretty overwhelming versus forum RP. The biggest difference is that in an MMO, you're now a part of a living, breathing world. When you're offline, the stories are still in motion and the characters are still developing. This brings the world into a life of its own, of course, though it can be a little overwhelming if you don't have a lot of time to commit (if you're away for a month you can come back to some pretty drastic changes). Regardless, once you have a good feel for the character you'd like to use most, you can use the Making Connections forum here on the RPC to hit the ground running! Best of luck over on Mateus!
  3. Hey there and welcome back aboard the RPC and to Balmung! In addition to what Missing said, you might consider tossing up a post on the Making Connections forum here on the RPC as a means to hit the ground running. If you have a pretty good idea for the direction or niche you're aiming for, that'll help even more! If nothing else, though, you're certainly welcome to run into Kasi sometime! She's mentored a good number of aspiring adventurers over the months and can teach swordplay if that's something you're after too. Kasi has a habit of showing up all over the place as a habitual wanderer, cook, and mercenary with a good 17 years of experience (not quite to old-fart levels but she's getting there).
  4. Hey there, and welcome aboard the RPC! Best of luck on the hunt over on Mateus!
  5. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! So for starters, you'll want to try and move over to an unofficial RP server- that's really the best option in terms of time and effort for getting quickly connected and putting tire to the road here. Currently, your best choice is for Mateus with Balmung locked down. Now, I don't know about Mateus, but at least here on Balmung, you could visit the Quicksand and either watch people RP or cut your teeth on it in an open, PUG setting. As far as MMO's themselves go, RP in an MMO setting is an interesting beast as this is a "persistent world." This means that storylines and character development continue around the clock, whether you're offline or not. On one hand, this lends an incredible amount of immersion as a living, breathing world, but can make it hard to keep up if you don't have a lot of time or dedication. When it comes to a Free Company or a Linkshell, you can use the RPC tabs at the top there to browse around for what's out there, and filter by what server you're on. This is a great starting point for making connections- and, of course, you can use the actual Making Connections forum here on the RPC to help too! Hope this helps- regardless, best of luck!
  6. Hey there, and welcome aboard the RPC and to FFXIV! Yeah, as you've found, it's a bit of a mess right now. With Balmung locked down, Mateus has become the go-to for the time being. If you're gung-ho about chasing after the RP, that's the best choice you've got! Thankfully, things are starting to stabilize now as far as queues and stability are concerned, so who knows.
  7. Miqo'te master race. *cough* Ahem. Hey there! So, for starters, you're certainly welcome to run into Kasi. Her character sheet is linked below, and you're certainly welcome to give that a look over and let me know if anything tickles! Otherwise, you may want to browse through the FC listings here and see if anything sticks out to you as a particular niche you'd like to dabble into. There's a whole lot out there and the community is fairly large, so there's plenty of room to explore! At the end of the day, what matters most is you having fun where you land.
  8. Hey there! Your best bet for finding RP Discords is probably going to be via browsing through Linkshells- most Linkshells have a Discord of their own and both are pointed towards giving their members access to networking and contacts. Now, granted, there are a good number of linkshells in the listing here on the RPC that are either completely dead or bordering on inactive. Your mileage may vary but you can tell a lot by the last time there was a post update and by viewing the OP's account profile and seeing when they were last online on the RPC. That should, hopefully, give you some clue! In any case though, you're certainly welcome to run into Kasi sometime if you'd like- her wiki page is linked down below. If something tickles, lemme know! Miqo'te master race. *cough* In any case, best of luck on the hunt!
  9. Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC! Best of luck over on Mateus!
  10. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! Best of luck on Mateus!
  11. Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC and to FFXIV! I can't say much being as how I'm on Balmung, which is currently locked- so there's not any point in telling you much about what's going on over here right now. That being said though, Mateus is a good option all the same! I'm sure they're just as passionate as Balmung folks are. Regardless, feel free to leverage the Making Connections forum here on the RPC- this is a fantastic means to hit the ground running, especially so if you have a good idea of what kind of niche you'd like to chase after and you've given some thought to your character too. Regardless, best of luck!
  12. Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC! Granted, most of the RP community is focused on Balmung and Gilgamesh, although with the server locks the overflow has been directed to Mateus. If you're really gung-ho about chasing after the RP, then it's very much worth the consideration. Regardless, best of luck wherever you decide to roam!
  13. Sounds great to me then! I'm usually online from around 4:00 - 11:00 PM CST, although with the queues that has become more like 6:00 - 11:00 PM CST. You're welcome to drop me a line anytime- I'll write you down on my hit-list too.
  14. Hey there! I can hurl Kasi your way potentially- she's also a Keeper from the Shroud, albeit long having since left her birth tribe. She's a bit of a Miqo'te nationalist and patriot for her people, and tends to go out of her way to lend a hand to kin in need. She sort of straddles the line between adventurer and mercenary, as she's motivated more by exploration than she is by gil. All that said, she's a bit on the darker side of the spectrum herself and doesn't balk at similar characters (in fact, she can appreciate ones that go to lengths to maintain a respectful standing). You can read all about her basics in the wiki page linked below- let me know if something tickles! Either way, here's hoping for a few more responses for you!
  15. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! There's really a whole lot of niches you could fit yourself into here on Balmung, not to mention freelance contacts and networking too. Some of this really depends mostly on your character's alignment- are they willing to do shady things for a greater good? Or are they more a champion of justice on the straight-and-narrow? Even your character's race opens some doors too (Miqo'te master race *cough*). For one thing, there's the Veil, which is an underground organization of people looking to chip away at the support structure that keeps the aristocracy in place in the world. They're a family of people that come from all walks of life- even the nobility itself- and want to bring change for the greater good. Sometimes it can be a rather dirty job, no less. The Veil is fronted by the After-Dark Grill, a steakhouse. You can read more about this via the link in my signature! If you're a Miqo'te, you might want to take a peek at the Shroudwolf Clan too, as it'd be a way to reconnect with past heritage. They typically put on events more akin to DnD sessions. There's also the Hydaelyn Protectors linkshell if you prefer to roll more on the truth-and-justice spectrum, as they're more of a vigilante group against evil organizations. Anyway, I'm going to have an obvious bias towards the Veil, but what matters most is finding somewhere that you're going to have plenty of fun playing around with. Either way, best of luck out there on the search!
  16. Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC and to FFXIV! As I mentioned in another thread, MMO RP is a pretty cool beast in that it's a persistent world with stories constantly in motion whether you're offline or not. There's more immersion because of that, but it can be a little troublesome to keep up with at the same time. If you're looking to dive into as much RP as you can, then Mateus is the go-to destination at this point, with Balmung locked for the time being. Regardless, best of luck!
  17. Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC! I'm not sure what all is available over on Aether Siren- Mateus is the go-to destination for new RP'ers at this point in time, being as how Balmung is locked for now. Either way, though, best of luck!
  18. Hey there, and welcome aboard the RPC and to FFXIV! Mateus is really the best option at the moment as far as access to RP is concerned. MMO RP is pretty cool as it's a persistent-world that is always in motion with stories always being written, so there's a whole lot out there to get into. Regardless, best of luck on the hunt wherever you go!
  19. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! Although I'm not over there on Mateus, best of luck on the hunt!
  20. Thread necromancy! Welcome back aboard the RP train! We're still churning and chugging along as ever.
  21. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! Best of luck on the hunt over on Omega!
  22. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! Best of luck over there on Lich!
  23. Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC! Best of luck over on Mateus!
  24. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! All the best of luck over on Mateus!
  25. Hey there and welcome back to the RPC, FFXIV, and to Balmung! Gone done lucked out with Balmung. Feel free to toss up a Making Connections post here on the RPC- it's a good way to hit the ground running!
