  1. Nevahe is Heaven spelled backwards and with the e moved...if you want to be technical. But I originally meant for Nevahe to be a bastardization of Niamh and it's variants, which means Bright. Duskwood is the name she chose for herself, being the daughter of a Wildwood and a Duskwight, she gave herself the name to symbolize that she will stay to true to herself and her roots and not squander the sacrifice her parent's made.
  2. *hugs Eleni tightly but gently* I'm sorry hun...rant as long as you need to, we'll listen. For those who don't know...the 'spoonie life' is living with a limited amount of resources available to you day by day. A normal, healthy person has unlimited 'spoons'. Those of us who live with something chronic don't have unlimited spoons. We have to pace our 'spoons' Anything that a healthy individual can do without thinking we have to think 'will this take up a bit of our resources?' and go from there. Sometimes it's a toss up between eating and sleeping for our last spoon. And we don't always start with 10/10 spoons. No, we start at 5/10 or 2/10. Those are the bad days. The good days we have 8/10 or 10/10 or on really really rare cases 12/10+. So, um, yeah. Back to cuddling Eleni. *cuddles Eleni* I can't offer any words of comfort because I don't really know you, but I can almost promise you that after this rough patch, it'll get better. *goes back to cuddling*
  3. Recently I have been toying (and attempting to implement) a traveling circus/gypsy performer character. Do we have any evidence of troupes and such in Eorzea...besides the boy band in the post-moogle questline? Any and all links you can provide are greatly appreciated!
  4. http://http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Ul'dah This might help a bit. The Syndicate isn't a criminal organization, it's the ruling body of Ul'dah. Ul'dah is a sultanate but the Sultana really has no power. The Syndicate does. The Syndicate is made up of the Royalists who support the Sultana and the Monetarists who are like Trade-Princes. Of the two, the Monetarists are the more likely to have their fingers in...shady dealings. Um...if anyone can help better than me feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, in fact Sounsyy will probably post here soon and blow my single link out of the water . I really hoped this helped a bit though.
  5. Have I been summoned? Welcome to Balmung! Harbingers of Dawn is a good-aligned, med-heavy RP FC dedicated to protecting and aiding the citizens of Eorzea. You're welcome to check us out! You can learn more about us here and apply on our website if you're interested. That looks pretty nice, but I don't think I like how intensive the recruitment process is. I don't mean any offense Hmmm...sometimes they have to be. There's a lot of people on Balmung, and a lot of Rp'ers. Recruiters have to be sure that you fit the fc. Many people play an fc as they are described, an organization of like minded people or a platoon and so on an so forth. So making sure you get the right fc for you if very important. The interviews ICly are also a way of a) a way to introduce new players to more characters and such and b) a way to see if you fit the fc. That's just how I view it though...
  6. Update and stuff. Mom came home today, though the doctors wanted her to go to a nursing home until she got her strength back but she's stubborn. I really hope I'm up to taking care of her with my own health issues. Tried talking to relatives about it, got told that I'm being "selfish". Yeah, worried that I may not be the best person to take care of someone because I can barely walk and am on a ton of heavy meds and have crippling unprovoked panic attacks. Totally selfish on my part, right? :frustrated: *hugs* I'm so, so sorry. I've seen this happen to a lot of friends and it seriously makes me want to break someone's fingers or something, and I'm not really a violent person most of the time. I just can't stand it when people do stuff like that to artists. *Gentle Tackle Hugs*
  7. *taps mic* Is this thing on? Dear Tank who dropped out of my Copperbell run this morning without giving the party a try...it's a level 17 dungeon. We could have gotten it no problem with the four of us. Instead, you drop before I even finish skipping the cutscene and leave me (Arcanist) a Black Mage and a Conjurer to look at each other in confusion. Why? It's a level 17 dungeon! Okay...it's possibly acceptable if you'd gotten it seven times in a row. Instead, you left me to summon Topaz Carbuncle and try to bolster spirits by saying that we could totally do this with Topaz tanking! And a thousand commendations to the Black Mage and the Conjurer who went with that, you all were awesome. Here's the thing though....Topaz vs. first boss gauntlet? Topaz lost. And we died. Once. And then your replacement came into the dungeon and everything went as smooth as butter after that. So thank you, random duty finder tank who dropped Copperbell without even trying, thank you for giving me my most hilarious run of that dungeon yet. *bows* /end not really a rant but still ranty against those types of tanks?
  8. I'll bite. This really is amazing of you. 1. Owlet 2. Thavnairian Set 3. Lord of Levin Lamp
  9. Is super awesome for welcoming me to the RPC, even after I confessed I have no idea what I'm doing. Looking forwards to maybe meeting ICly someday
  10. If Nevahe's story never happened? First of all, Ala Mhigo would never have fallen, and thus never prompted her parents to run back to Sharlayan from Sharlayan ((oh that's confusing)) and thus also prevented her parents from leaving their research in Saint Mocianne's Arboretum and becoming almost destitute. The fire seven years after she was born would have never happened, meaning she wouldn't have a crippling fear of open flames and she'd also be able to run long distances, her lungs never would have been damaged from smoke inhalation. Nevahe would probably have grown up a proud member of the Tevennie family, doting on the twin siblings who would have been born soon after her ninth Namesday. Instead she was formally disowned by her paternal uncle at her parent's funeral and left on the streets. Would she have been happier? I don't know. She doesn't know. She'd like to think she'd be happier, living in Colony!Sharlayan with her parents and siblings. She'd like to think she'd be happier not having to fight her way through the Studium, to prove herself at every turn to people who would once have been her peers but now saw themselves above because she had no Surname and wore tattered clothes. She'd like to think she'd be happy to be able to run long distances without feeling like her chest was about to explode, that she'd be happier if she hadn't had to stow away on a ship bound for Aldenard. That she'd be happier if she was Nevahe Tevennie, not Nevahe Duskwood. And maybe she would have been happier...but maybe she wouldn't. Those things did happen, her life as she knew it fell apart when she was seven...and she wouldn't be the person she is today if they'd stayed the same...and she's happy with who she is right now. So, she chooses to live for tomorrow. She chooses to live for who she will become under the guidance of the people who touch her life in little ways everyday. ((Hm...didn't really end the way I expected it to...I guess Neva decided she didn't want to wallow in the 'what if's' and has decided to write her own fate.)
  11. Neva is currently an Arcanist, but yes she will definitely 'discover' a set of tarot that belonged to one of her parents (Left with someone they knew from Ishgard...possibly as a memento or for safekeeping. (Mom may have had the Echo that manifested in foreseeing a bit, maybe she knew her daughter would one day meet x person.Thank you Krile for making this canon.)) And your other suggestions are awesome.
  12. I think I'll borrow Sounsyy's idea about impoverished scholars...it's leugues better than my own "Mother was a Ishgradian noble, father was a scholar form Sharlayan" thing I had been trying to pass off as backstory. I can actually roll with this and make up a viable reason for Neva to be scared of fire...rival scholar still holding a grudge maybe ((Sharlayan has always screamed deadly decadent court to me for some reason.)) Since she's only 19 this fits almost like a glove. I know for sure that she's been on her own since she was seven. Since she gets a public education she at least knows how to read and write the basics. I...don't know how well her being a Duswight/Wildwood mix would work though. I'd personally assume that the two intermarrying in Sharlayan would be no big deal but then that's just me. The whole perilous journey thing to Eorzea is so going to be a thing...if she snaps out of her haze of omgseasick. Anyway! New backstory is tentatively hashed out. Thank you Sounsyy, Ashe, and Valence for humoring this scrub's question. *Walks off murmuring ideas*
  13. Nevahe, my main (and currently only fleshed out character) is a street rat from Sharlaya who stowed away on a trading vessel bound for Vylbrand. The thing is I don't know how acceptable having her former home be Sharlaya. I originally chose it for purely selfish reasons, namely that we don't have much lore about there and that I could 'smudge' it a bit and be a bit vague on the details. In your honest opinions, is this an alright backstory (it's probably by no means an imaginative one I know, but she's my first attempt) or should I make it something a bit more normal like some backwater village in La Noscea? Pardons for bothering you, Nevahe. Sharlayan vs Sharlaya. Above I used the term Sharlaya to talk about the place. Perhaps I'm presumptuous in assuming that Sharlayan refers to a people and Sharlaya the place. (I'm Sharlayan from Sharlaya for example, makes perfect grammatical sense to me due in part this being an established thing elsewhere in the game: Gridanian from Gridania, Ul'dahn from Ul'dah, Limsian (La Noscean is also something I've seen) from Limsa, Doman from Doma etc. This is just what I observed in game and thus applied it to Sharlaya/Sharlayan.
  14. Thanks I'm super excited to meet everyone!
  15. I'll see you around sometime after Wednesday or so! I'm super excited to be coming. But also really really nervous.
  16. Looking forwards to meeting you as well. I'll be the short Elezen in the Farmer's slops and looking woozy from the ship ride
  17. Thanks ! I'm kinda nervous seeing as I have no prior knowledge of roleplay, but I'll do my best!
  18. I'm coming to Balmung sometime within the week, and recently I read that if you make multiple characters on the realm you're transferring off of (namely Cactuar for me) you can bring all of them with one 18 dollar transfer. Can anyone confirm or deny this for me? Cause I have an absolutely adorable Lala Black Mage I'd love to bring as well. Thank you for your time and sorry for bothering you! Edit: Thanks so much for your speedy responses!
  19. --MMORPG background My first MMO was WoW about....oh five years ago? I've played the Star Wars one as well, but not to the extent I played WoW. --RP experience Erm...none? --Character ideas/info Nevahe Duskwood is a part Wildwood, part Duskwight Elezen of 6 fulms and 19 cycles. She grew up a street rat in the slums of Sharlaya. Recently come to Eorzea -namely Limsa- seeking a new start. Found out that she apparently gets seasickness about a week into her voyage...she doesn't plan on going back needless to say. She also has a fear of fire...and a fear of Black Mages in conjunction. I have some more characters I'm making at the moment and planning to send on over with Neva. --How did you learn about the coalition? Erm....I searched FFXIV Roleplay. --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? Uh...yes? As I really have no prior experience was Roleplay of any type, I'm not entirely certain what type of role-player I'll become...probably a medium-light? --Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) I am currently not in school but I plan to be in the spring. I enjoy reading, writing, and video games. I'm addicted to coffee. I...am not particularly coherent when I first get on in the morning. I aim to move to Balmung in a few days but currently I'm lurking on Cactuar until I can move. I'm not new to FFXIV in anyway, just new to rping. I...don't really know what else to write and I'm afraid this post is going to sound stuffy because I'm so nervous so I'll end this here before I make more of a fool of myself. Edited to fill out the form thingie...technical terms
