  1. I don't think anyone will just state "You can't do that." We all know better than to say that. Problem is what actually happens on this site and has shown up at least a few times in this thread... folks will easily say "Oh sure, you can do that, but don't expect me (and sometimes 'anyone') to play with you if you do." Which is, in my opinion, actually more destructive to people's confidence.
  2. Remember too though... this IS a Final Fantasy game. Most of the playable characters ARE in fact about that young. (We'll take Cecil there as a good example, only 20 and yet such a skilled DRK that he was made captain of the Red Wings. And while that post doesn't mention Kain, it is likely that he, a full fledged DRG, is about the same age.) So, do we apply Real World limitations to our game or keep the Fantasy going? Full disclosure - I am personally no where near 20. lol. I know full well how annoying it is to play with folks who have characters with god-like abilities and pull a playground "Nuh Uh, you can't beat me!" whenever they are threatened by anything. But there is a middle ground between this and 'so average that they can't actually do anything that exists in the XIV world/storyline but doesn't exist in Real Life'. I am still holding to my idea that XIV's story and lore are written as though this was a single player game (mentioned a few pages back). In order to account for the thousands that are roleplaying in this world, we're gonna have to do some handwaving here and there. Try to work with what we're given, sure, but ultimately it is still a fantasy game.
  3. Honesty...? Part of this I think is the fact that the world Square Enix has created is far to small to handle the number of players on a server. Like, if this were a single player game, 30 would seem like a big number. However no one at Square Enix treats the lore as if there are actually thousands of adventurers running around. So they pick a small number like 30 to make the player feel cool for being one of a small group. Like, I scale everything up quiet heavily. Would the grand tournament between all the Eorzean city states really just be like a dozen soldiers? No, not in my idea of it. For another example, I think must of us can agree that the Ul'dah in our minds is much larger than the space we see. Our RP's constantly invent little warehouses and alleys and such. Otherwise the Goblet would be larger than the actual town. Don't worry about the number, it will never come up and it's variable. Scale things up to fit the world we RP in, a giant bustling place, not the small maps with a few dozen NPCs. I actually wrote about this in a post I made to tumblr about why I don't rp as a/the WoL. I think McBeef hit the nail on the head; it really seems as though the story and lore in XIV is set more for a single player experience than an mmo. Perhaps it can be said that the game is not written as though intended for the scores of roleplayers on Balmung, but instead for that guy on X server who just enjoys the story and who can just handwave off the incidental encounters his character has with other players. I think in a way that the story itself downplays the fact that this is an mmo. So here we are with a chunk of lore that is not conducive to group rp. If you were by yourself in this game, a limit of 10 DRGs is perfectly fine. Perhaps I'm stepping across the line here, but I am really saddened by some folk's rush to prove they are not unique and special (it feels damn similar to a kid's rush to prove that they ARE the special chosen one above all others; almost as though this is the jaded adult version of it. "I had my hopes and dreams squashed out of me by the time I was 25, so you gotta suffer too!") that they tear down other people on their crusade of self-righteousness. Please, be kind to each other.
  4. lol. They're probably scrambling to print more.
  5. ; Since I'm already working on 2017 stuff for my job, I didn't even notice the date. Yes, I'll hope they mean THIS December too. ><
  6. Refreshing saved the day. fyi - Note: the shipment will occur after December 27, 2017 And you get a um... (It's supposed to be a Namingway.)
  7. Thank you! I think there's another part that someone else capped that talks about Nunhs being leaders, though. It's mentioned in the bottom right square. Here is Kage's post to the OF about the discrepancy.
  8. I don't have the scan to check it again, but I seem to remember it was stated rather approximately along those lines, that they have to lead their tribe on the way to greatness or something. Which doesn't necessarily mean that they are tribe chiefs, but merely leaders. Which also tends to comfort me in saying that they have a very central social status to the tribe, and not just on breeding. But maybe I'm wrong. One screen definitely said leading them to greatness, and another mentioned them being leaders of the tribe. It was weird. I tried to find it on my phone for exact wording but I couldn't, and my work blocks tumblr via firewall (not that I'd remotely care to get on it at work >_> definitely not a safe place). If someone else doesn't post it by the time I get home, I'll see if I can find it! Here is the Seeker page if this is what you were looking for. On topic... I am also VERY surprised that they didn't couch things in vague terms like "a small number of..." or "few" and yes, I do feel for those who try very hard to abide by lore and play a Dragoon. This is rather pulling the rug out from under them.
  9. I'm on few IC LS (and they're just a sort of back up for the ooc ones I'm on), but lots of OOC social ones for roleplayers. Met some awesome rpers this way and even set up a weekly rp event for the one I run. Maybe you just have to find the right LS?
  10. Here are screenshots and info on the public RP rooms we have thus far!
  11. Our weekly drop-in RP event is tonight!! This isn't a true tavern RP event (our bar is staffed by an npc, Khoor "Smiley" Dotharl... I'll let you ask him about the name... please note, he does have knives on him), but merges tavern rp with a hunt/employment office and social gathering spot. Basically, if you're a hunter or looking for work (shady or above board), Clan Centurio would be the place to stop by for information, food & drink, and even a place to get cleaned up and rest for the night! (Inn rooms available for 100 gil per night. Limited availability.) More info on the facilities here.
  12. I'm kind of curious, since Tonberry is the unofficial (and most heavily populated JP server) AUS/NZ/SEA server, are there any RP groups there? I used to play on a not-Tonberry JP server (hence the user name) and even we had a tiny rp group in our FC.
  13. Cat became hungry is the best resource for fishing in ffxiv. Use it for locations, times, bait, etc. My randomness... I wonder what percentage of players on Balmung actually rp with any frequency. I've met oodles that say they are rpers, but that they never actually rp.
  14. We have a discord channel now! Ask in game or through pm for the link. :moogle:
  15. It's basically just striking up a conversation with someone, but you speak as though you were your character instead of yourself irl. You can use /em to make your own custom emotes, which adds a lot to the scene. Example: /em stuck his fingers in his ears. He looked over at Frank and spoke loud enough to be heard over the music. "You actually like this stuff?" To find RP, I would suggest taking a look at the calendar (top left of the forum's main page) for open RP events that are coming up.
  16. Having just skimmed previous posts (sorry ^^; ), I wasn't sure if it was mentioned that having more than one character per server is a slightly higher monthly subscription fee than the base subscription which limits you to one.
  17. While most players don't see the need or point, there are two main reasons people have alts. 1. For raiding. There's some loot and practice hokey-pokey that raiders do for endgame content with lock outs. They'll have an alt for this. 2. For roleplay. It's a way to rp as different characters, which keeps things lively and more interesting for many players. (I actively play and have leveled 6, so I can vouch for this. ) You should be able to edit your search info by targeting yourself and right clicking / using square button. But many FCs who focus on the quantity of people in their FC instead of the type of people, will just send out blind invites to everyone without a FC tag, regardless of what you put in your search info. ^^; This info box is REALLY limited on character space though. Any stories etc. that you want to write have to be put out of game either here, on the Lodestone blogs, or on some other social media website.
  18. Hi! It's a lot harder for us to hunt down one of you than you to find one of our leaders in game. :3 Please reach out to one of us when you're online! We'd be happy to have you join us!
  19. It makes sense there will be a bit of bumpy road til we figure out how we as a community want to made use of this status. Similar to Kilieit, I'll put it up if I am actively roleplaying (as in I'm busy doing a thing) at that time. This does not necessarily mean I am open to walk ups at that time. Or I'll throw it up while I'm jogging to the GS or somewhere if I /am/ open to walk ups. But even then, I've always been one to prefer tells prior to said walk up. The new RP symbol kinda has to cover all these differences anyways. >w< What I'm curious about is how to handle RP events. If everyone involved puts up the RP symbol, how do we tell who is running said event? /lfm has worked before of course, but I actually get tells asking if I want something melded... ; Plus, they are both gold colored. Are we changing or keeping to the usual way?
  20. I am definitely looking for someone to help coordinate these if you (or anyone!) are interested! Actually been looking around for help with this for a while now... >.> IC dungeons usually take more advance planning than simple, drop-in RP and a certain level of commitment from those who say they want to go. Since running a group RP event in the open world for our 2nd weekly RP event, I'll admit I've gotten a bit too self-conscious about organizing scenes or plot lines that require more commitment and have a mixed bag of expectations from others. The interest is there, so I'm happy to have some help with this! I'll help! I actually already tried making a thread for IC dungeons but got no interest. If we can get the interest then I'm happy to help with planning etc. I may have the people for ya! Our LS RP event is tonite (more info here) if you want to stop by or just shoot a message to one of our listed LS leaders and we'll see about getting you an invite to the LS. :moogle:

  22. A number of us do use discord, but we don't have an official LS server at this time. lol. I was actually just considering this yesterday evening!
  23. We are mostly here to help others run & clear content oocly. Since we are all RPers, many have made RP connections through the LS and we are building up our own weekly RP event. There has been interest in running dungeons IC from a few people, but nothing has been organized yet. Let me know if you have any other questions! :moogle:
  24. No prob. We'll leave the light on for ya! <3
