It's possible Yan would bump into the younger Alberic Grimmeau (wiki link in sig) while looking at books in a library or book shop. Alberic is more of a quiet loner, so I doubt Yan would have his feathers ruffled by him. Maybe a friendly game of chess here and there? (I'm sure we can /random our way through it. )

Wealthy Ul'dahn young man with family problems? Oh yes, I got you. If you are comfortable with a tiny retcon, it would be possible that you know of Valia & Brinn Rosa from when you were growing up. Brinn owns a building that houses a hunt & employment office now actually, so he can help with that too. My company mate, Karim Omari, was also recently looking to reach out to other wealthy individuals in the three city states while he reluctantly learns the merchanting business from his father. After the fight; Before the fight Brinn stomped inside his room in Ul’dah, fighting back the urge to slam the door behind him. He turned, closed it carefully, then started cursing under his breath. Once he realized he was being childish about the loss of the last bout at the Fight Club, he began chuckling, laughter bubbling up til it echoed warmly throughout the room. Going 3-1 after not fighting for quite some time was still pretty good. He paused for a moment, thinking. It was getting late, but he was far from sleep. He walked over to the closet and wrestled a wooden striking dummy out of the depths within. “Don’t need this thing gathering dust.” Making sure he had enough floor space, Brinn began slowly to go through his forms, striking the wooden arms with dull thuds. Progressively he got faster, striking at what would be pressure points on living opponents. His mouth thinned out into a determined frown, eyes narrowing with focus. He felt the warmth and thrill of precise attacks flooding his senses and reveled in it. “Brother!” That harsh voice jerked him out of his trance like a bucket of ice water being dashed upon him. He looked up at the unwelcome guest who had just let herself in the room. His eyes narrowed with suspicion; he had definitely locked that door behind him. Or was he getting lazy, allowing the soft life in the city to get to him? “Yeah?” “Ugh. It stinks in here.” Valia pinched her nose between two thin fingers. “I’ve been fightin’, course it’s gonna stink.” He grabbed a towel he’d tossed onto his nightstand and began drying off his face and neck. “Why’re ya in here bitchin’ at me anyways?” “You were making so much noise, I’d wondered if you had found a woman for once.” She brought her brattiest voice to bear on him it seemed. Brinn was ready to pitch his sister out the window behind him. He just grit his teeth instead. “Why. are. you. here. Valia?” His hands clenched into fists at his side as he fought back the urge to strangle her. “The noise, dummy… oh, and I need you to deliver a package for me.” He practically roared at her. “RHALGR’S ANGER, VALIA!! DO I LOOK LIKE A FUCKIN’ MESSENGER BOY? Her pale eyes widened. “B-but I need your help…” Ooh, she was lying through her teeth this time, Brinn was sure of it. But he wasn’t sure he could take the chance she wasn’t. “What is it you need help with this fuckin’ time?” He bit off every word as he spoke them.

That's a really well laid out wiki, wow... My FC, Of the Desert, is a hunt office that also has job offers (mostly guard work, treasure hunting, or moving heavy equipment around) posted to the walls. Hunts & employment RP is open to anyone, to clarify. If you are interested in either, Brinn Rosa, Alberic Grimmeau, Ralin Thalin (office manager), or Tin Man can help with that. Brinn spent some years in Southern Thanalan and made some friends in Little Ala Mhigo while a fugitive, so it is possible you encountered each other there. He is no longer on the run and is trying to re-acclimate to normal life in Ul'dah. Daire Hawke is a boastful, eager 14 year old kid who was born in Little Ala Mhigo. He's learning to swing a sword around. Their wikis are linked in my sig if you want to check em out. By some quirk of fate and a lot of me not thinking it through, last night I took the one character I have that would NEVER pass up a chance to fight. So after a year of spectating, I finally participated. lol. Had a good time, would recommend. 5/7 :moogle: And of course, I was assigned to Flameson first match. >..>; Felt like a terrier trying to bark down the mountain...

For anyone new to game, I'm dead set against em. It's hard enough to learn the xbar full of skills for AST, MCH, and DRK when you start at 30 and some folks are damn clueless at 50 & 60 even though they had to level the usual way as is. For those that already are at 60 and just want to level an alt class? ... hm, nah I'm still against em. I actually run a large LS specifically for leveling alts and alt classes, so this is a matter I've had to consider making an official policy on. (Full disclosure: I love leveling, it's why I have the LS. I have 3 characters at the end of HW, 3 more in 2.1, and one more I just started out. And each have multiple leveled classes.) That being said, the msq could definitely use some streamlining already. All those fetch quests and especially the *insert a lot of rude words here* "oh you meant the EARTH crystal" quests around level 40ish can go. It doesn't help that quests give half the exp of a single at-level fate too....

Sadly, you don't have the ability to glamour your leveling gear until you hit level 50. Up til then, you just have to put up with wearing the leveling gear the game gives you. ^^; If you just want to wear nice clothes for RP, check a lot of the level 1 glamour items. Since so many are dropping in potd, the prices have really come down.

A return of old event gear in game that can be bought with gil. Furniture items from different establishments in Eorzea (like the fountain in the Gridanian Inn, an actual bar like in Wineport or Limsa, etc.) Lost ath Gnath music scroll (I need... T_T ) Beast tribe quests for gatherers. Qiqirn costume. Exterior christmas lights. Those spontaneously generated apartments we were supposed to get... Flexible-party, untimed dungeons. (I can dream.)

As a matter of fact, the RP Levelers LS is holding their first Pop Up RP event at Bronze Lake! All are welcome! And I do especially encourage those who are seeking some R&R at the Sanitorium (or looking to help these visitors) to come by. Feel free to contact me here or in game if you have any questions or want to help with the event! eta: check for healers' LS too; like the Matron's Reach.

As an aside, "legacy" is a term that is no longer relevant. It means the server has been around in some form since 1.0. For a while, people could not transfer their characters off of a legacy server to a new server for balance reasons; that restriction was done away with some time back. From what I've seen over time, while Gilgamesh used to be the 'non-legacy' unofficial RP server, most RPers have migrated to Balmung. Gilgamesh instead became known as the unofficial endgame raiding server. Since these two servers are a sort of mecca for different reasons, no, they don't open to character creation. I have heard, however, that pre and post maintenance windows have been available recently, but you have to be faster than bot programs who jam as many characters in as they can in the approx 2 minutes you have.
