Our next Pop up RP event is coming soon! More event info here!
-
I'll actually be going in game here shortly, once I can pry myself away from the interwebs. I'll look for you.
-
Never fear! I have not forgotten this list. :3 Many taverns turned to special events or shut down over the holidays, so I put updates on hold for the time being. Now that we are theoretically back to our regularly scheduled programming, I will be looking to work on this list. To make my job easier... ; u ; feel free to post your info in a comment (pm is fine too) and I'll get it added in!
-
I need someone from the following FCs to reach out to me for updates: St. Reinette's University I have sent messages to a contact person, but it's always helpful to have the community at large notify their friends. :3 If I don't hear from someone by the end of January, I will remove these FCs from the list. Thanks! :moogle:
-
I have also updated the profile prompt to the following: Basic profile In Game Theme(s): FC/LS Name : Website: Contacts: Housing (type of establishment if not obvious from the name): (list only if it's open to public) Thanks! :moogle: eta: You don't have to have some fancy enjin or other website to post a url! It can be your FC Hall entry here on the RPC or your group's tumblr.

Upon request, I have added in a new category called "Plot Driven". If your FC has an ongoing story line, you are welcome to let me know that you want to be added to this category! I've received notice that some of the links are dead in the water. I'll be going through the list and checking for these and removing them. If your FC has a new website or needs other edits, let me know now so I can update these! Otherwise they're going in the rubbish bin. Thanks! :moogle:

Ok! I have added all of these in! Thanks guys! :moogle:

Yep, we use this method on the RP Levelers LS. I pick a day some weeks after a scheduled maint, announce it ahead of time, and, barring emergency maint, let those without jobs displayed go. Anyone that has yet to unlock their job stone on an alt or new character can speak to me directly to ask for an exemption, but since we exist for leveling I think it's fair to ask that they see to this within a reasonable amount of time. x3 That being said, damn but I wish LS's had more functionality (like moving position in LS list, being open to more than 128 members, showing how long since they last logged in, some sort of log in notice, etc.)

Just wanted to throw my input in as a brand new player to the game and the community. I have no negative or positive history here, and I think some people who seem jaded around here probably had some negative experiences and are letting that cloud their judgement. I could be wrong though. I think this is really important. This is the difference between someone who has preconceived expectations regarding the rp community (and frankly may be unconsciously looking for negatives to check them off a mental list of sorts) and someone who is actually new here. It goes back to what we've all been saying, you're gonna have to put yourself out there AND it's wise to pick your battles (like in real life socializing, don't go up and interrupt an in-depth convo, do go up and talk to the shy people, it's hard to hold a convo in a crowded room, and of course know that you may be rebuffed sometimes.) While I think the title of the thread is unfortunate, there are a lot of helpful insights in here that many rpers can learn from. What I've learned in my time on Balmung... damn, we have a lot of people with social anxiety.

Added you in! :moogle:

Ever wanted to work in a fast-paced, fun environment surrounded by yummy pizza? Now’s your chance! We are looking for enthusiastic, sociable, reliable folks for the following positions: Apprentice cook, Bartender, Wait staff, Dishwasher, Pizza deliverer. No experience needed! Contact Tin Man for an interview. OOC info: Guys, I’m swamped. lol. Running this place solo basically means I am expected to do 1 on 1 rp with several people at once. I do my best to keep things succinct while still ensuring the environment suits the nature of the tavern (ie Greeting people, making the pizzas, pouring the drinks, etc.). Of course, how busy we are varies wildly throughout the night; I may be faced with full tables and a line or have some down time where I busy myself cleaning up the kitchen (this is rare). Last night was the first time I’ve had someone up and leave without ordering. I’m not sure if it was because we had a rush at the time and there were 5 people ahead of them in line or if it was just too spammy for them. While I know that the Pizzeria may not be for everyone, I would hope that people come and have a good time rather than bad. Things you should know both as a potential employee or as a customer: - Yes, the chat scroll is real. Having experience dealing with this at other events is helpful because it can be a bit of a shock if you aren’t expecting it. As with any tavern RP, it is helpful and thoughtful to send your order to the staff via /tell. Feel free to post it to /say of course, in keeping with the atmosphere, but I’m gonna need a follow up tell so I don’t miss it. - As of right now, I’m the only staff of the Pizzeria. I do my best to keep track of who requested what, when, and in what order. Please be patient, even if your character wouldn’t be. - Customers come up and order at the bar; you pick your order up at the bar when called. I don’t have the time to visit each table individually. (This may change if I can hire some wait staff.) - We craft and sell pizzas only. I do not have the IC kitchen space (nor interest at this time) to make any other type of food. - We don’t have a menu. I know this is a big deal for folks, so I will try and pull a nice menu together at some point. If a meat, veggie or fruit (we have a dessert fruit pizza) exists in game, I can slap it on a pizza. I do some handwaving with specific terms like pepperoni (it takes too long to say spiced, cured, sliced buffalo and boar meat) that doesn’t exist in game at this time. - Our hours are from 6-9 pm EST. I will go til 10 pm since I know a lot of folks are used to the 7-10 pm events and we are still pretty busy after 9. After 10 however, I’m gonna start giving folks the stinkeye and turning off the lights for my own sake. Recently, I’ve had customers til well after midnight. I will start giving 10 minute warnings that we are shifting to npc staff ahead of time. - If you are interested in helping run the event, please be honest with how long you can work (either in hours per session or in number of weeks). I’m not going to say don’t apply if you can’t commit; I know it can be overwhelming and draining, so it’s perfectly okay if you decide this job isn’t for you. Don’t just… not show up or tell me at 6 pm that you want to do something else. - As staff, you are more than just an npc! Feel free to rp as your character (clumsiness, IC laziness, burning the food, chatting it up with customers, etc.) and trust me, I will rp back at you. Just keep in mind that we want folks to have a good time while there (no trolling, rudeness, or ooc laziness). - I am also looking for IC suppliers! If you cook, garden, or hell... want to supply napkins or dinnerware, feel free to reach out to me. Like any restaurant, please peddle your wares outside of our busy hours. I look forward to hearing from you! You can message me on tumblr (ex-atomos), here on the RPC, on discord (exatomos#4455), or contact one of my characters in game: Valia Rosa, Brinn Rosa, Tin Man, Alberic Grimmeau, Ralin Thalin, Chanar Himaa, or Daire Hawke.

There may be many, but if they are closed to recruitment it is pretty much the same result. Check my list of FC Themes, see if any of these look interesting to you and are open. It's a sort of reverse look up.

Yes to all this. There have been many threads posted about how hard it is to make it on Balmung, getting enough attention, finding good rp to join, etc. I always liken it to moving to a big city. The analogy is apt; Balmung is the most populated server hands down. Just like moving into a new city, you have to put forth a lot of effort to meet new people and find /your/ place, /your/ comfort zone. Folks aren't going to rush up to every new rper, excited to meet them... it would be like expecting everyone to stop and greet you on Wall Street during morning rush hour. Breaking into Balmung takes a lot of time and effort, focused effort like looking at wikis and FC/LS info looking for the type of rp you may be interested in; not just half-assing it a few times, then moping about it. (I've spent months doing exactly this. lol.) I realized recently that I was spending nearly all of my game time leveling and grinding tomes and complaining that I got zero rp. It finally occurred to me, 'Well duh... you're not setting aside time to actually rp.' So now I'm trying to look at it like raiding; the only way I'll get better at it is to continuously throw myself in there, no matter how many times I fail and how frustrated I get. Eventually I will succeed and yay, good times! :moogle: On a side note: Pretty Guardians (You don't actually have to look hard. )

Sure! Just poke one of the leaders when you're next in game.

[Balmung] Looking RP contacts and possibly an FC/LS
ExAtomos replied to Deneve's topic in Chronicled Connections
Not sure what region you prefer but, if you spend most time in Ul'dah, I have an office building and employment/hunt office that could use the help (well, particularly my business manager could use the help. lol.) I definitely welcome folks looking for IC employment and you do not need to be a member, I'll happily set up rp scenes and what have you. ^^ -
balmung Treasure Hunting / Exploration / Black Market RP FC
ExAtomos replied to Reshie's topic in Chronicled Connections
Advertising is the best way to get your name out there. Shout a succinct ad (no spamming) in each city and in the lowbie zones. Post to the PF regularly during prime time. Post to tumblr and any other social media you know to be used by rpers. Being present at events is a good way to quietly advertise as well. It gets your name out there. Everyone is looking at everyone else's search info and FC info. Put a tinyurl of some sort in there so people can see more about you guys if they want. Helping other groups with their events is a bonus. You get the enjoyment of helping to run an event while helping someone else ensure it goes smoothly. I usually think of merchant or fighting events for stuff like this. Reach out to other small FCs too who may be in a similar situation (like mine, lol); this way you can have the numbers to run a more complex event. A simple event like a tavern can be a one man show though (I'm doing that myself now with the Pizzeria), so you don't need a ton of people for those and it still gets your name out there. (Hell, come help with the next RP Levelers LS's Pop up RP event, I'll be happy to have the assistance. ) IC dungeon runs have been something often requested on my LS, but sadly I don't have anyone willing to actually run the dang things. Having been in plots before that took us into dungeons, I can tell you that it really isn't fun to be one of the players in the plot who wasn't able to go along due to the limit of 4 people in the dungeon. Unless you have another DM running scenes for those left out, I would suggest you limit participants to 3 besides yourself. Doable even in the tiniest (but not solo) FCs. Feel free to reach out to me in game or here for any ooc help with stuff! It's fun! :moogle: -
Black Magic - The dilemna of the Gem of Shattoto
ExAtomos replied to Valence's topic in Lore Discussion
These snippets make me think there are more than one at a time. It may be worth checking against the other translations to see how they phrase it since saying "the Gem" makes it seem more like there is only one. -
I understand the logic behind this post, but good lord emoting something to the effect of "glancing at so-and-so" as an intro in the manner you describe is one of the most awkward things I can experience as a player. Half the reason I made a character that sells junk to strangers is so I would never have to do that. The player's behavior in OP's post is unacceptable, to be clear. I just wonder if, to anyone else, an introduction of that nature is more repellent to RP than sitting in silence. Maybe? lol. While cringe-y, it does give me two things to work with... Broody wants to interact with me (or someone) and an opening to ask why he's so grumpy. If someone just sits there doing and saying nothing, I usually figure they are busy in another chat or want to be left alone. Perhaps I'm guilty of it as well... when at a tavern, I prefer 'background noise' such as ordering a drink and paying for it, even if it gets lost in the scroll. Sure, I may toss in a bit about my character's voice showing fatigue or anger or whatever suits them at the time. If people nearby see it and want to interact, they can. If they ignore it, that's fine too, I was just getting a drink. And I try to do the same for others who provide similar easy to use openings.

Updated with this week's special! Some things to know: Order at the counter (Drink orders may be taken by npc if busy) Pick up your food at the counter when called Sit where you like A wide variety of smoked and salted meats are available, as are a large selection of vegetables. Fruit pizza (a dessert made on a cookie crust with a cream cheese 'sauce') is available. Prices are IC only, no actual gil is exchanged. (tips welcome of course!) 1000 gil = $10 USD (to give an idea of the exchange rate I use.) If I miss your /say message, please send me a /tell directly! I will send a follow up /tell to you when your order is ready as well. Hope to see you this week! :moogle:

These two bits stuck out to me. As others have said already, pick one character that YOU like to play and stick with them. Changing looks & names like hats is really off-putting to others. They don't have time to get to know one character before you've discarded it. How can they believe you'll hold up your end of any long term RP plots if there's a good chance you're going to throw that character away next week? Try to not stay hyper-critical of your character. Like them; grow to love them; write blog posts about them and takes tons of screenshots to post somewhere. Develop their back story. Have fun with them! I can tell you, as someone who actively plays several characters, it is VERY difficult to build RP relationship if you play many alts. The difficulty you face breaking into good RP social circles with ONE character... multiply that for every other character. (Hell... in my experience, it may be exponentially more difficult >_>). But I am committed to this style of playing and will stubbornly work extra hard to build RP relationships with others. I've been on Balmung a year now and am STILL working on this... But really, good RP is a relationship, you have to KEEP working at it, not just rest on your laurels once it's started. As for that last bit, about being ostracized due to who you hung out with... I'm sorry, but it may take some time to repair this rift depending on just how bad it was. You may have to start over with new social circles completely and just know that you will need to constantly prove you aren't a bad guy. Oh, and this part... No matter how well known or 'in' someone is now, we ALL started from nothing. Every blessed one of us.

There were like sixty people all typing in /say at once at the Gala; like everyone else has said, your walk up message is going to be missed unless you send a tell. Hell, unless you were emoting in my face, I'd miss any /say directed at me. Try a smaller tavern event like Coeurl's Whisker instead. Strike up a conversation with others who sit with you. Also check people's search info for something like "walk ups welcome", not everyone has the courage to talk to randoms at events.

I have dance macros with the ranger poses and a macro I borrowed from someone else for a round of darts. Oh, and I have a hide and seek macro too (if that counts.) The most /facepalm worthy macro I've seen was an elezen dude using... I think it's their /soothe emote or something... as a butt grab/spank. Macroing erp is just... wat. (Plus that headroll at the end, rage inducing right there.) But hey, what do I know, mebbe it's a common practice?
