Thaumaturge/Alchemist - Ul'dah Business owner - Ul'dah (sometimes Little Ala Mhigo) Office worker/scholar - Ul'dah (sometimes Ishgard) Restaurant manager/chef - Ul'dah Is this roughly what you're looking for?

Can't answer cause I legit have multiple RP/Gameplay "mains". But I do notice that Businessman/woman is missing. And to clarify, you mean profession as in "main source of income" right? Merchant/Supplier is a big one that isn't on the list.

If SE was to designate an RP server, would you move?
ExAtomos replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
SE turning off the game. Look... what do you think all these threads are FOR? We're discussing possible solutions to the problem of an over-stuffed Balmung. Some people promote a diaspora, others (like myself) hope to encourage SE to slap an 'RP Here' label on some empty server so we'll move together, some people feel the sky isn't falling and Balmung will reopen soon enough and we'll return to the status quo, some people fear a split, etc. We can't really agree on anything because we don't know what SE is thinking and each of us has our 'ideal' solution in mind that doesn't mesh with other ideas. -

Is RP just a way for people to hook up these days?
ExAtomos replied to Averis's topic in RP Discussion
As others have mentioned; it's very much a ymmv thing. Some friends of mine can't walk ten fulms without being propositioned; I can plant a character* in the QS and only get regular RP every time. (I was actually just discussing this the other day in an attempt to figure out what /I'm/ doing differently that keeps ERP away so I can pass the secret to others. ) In my experience, the vast majority who only ERP aren't RPers at all, but are trolls (or close enough). As an aside, been RPing online for 20 years... it's always been a thing. Of course, I did a lot of World of Darkness RP back then. But really? Many fantasy novels are full of sex scenes, so I guess ERP is actually important for immersion. xDDD *Thus far, I've taken Mid M, Mid F, Aura M, Aura F, Roe M, Roe F, Miqo M, and Lala M. My search info does not include any RP types (E/M/D) and has some sort of hook for RP in it. I have both struck up convos and kept myself quiet. I've stood against the railing and wall on both sides of the room and have taken seats at the tables. The one time someone from the sex bench came in to the QS proper and tried to pull a "hey bby" in tell, I lured him to a back alley and my FC mugged him (dude seemed a good sport about the whole thing.) The only time my character's butt was grabbed was by a rando on Hyperion and the only person who used to keep asking me for cyber on Balmung isn't a RPer. (My testing notes. xDDD) -

If SE was to designate an RP server, would you move?
ExAtomos replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
What's kind of interesting to me is that some folks are saying there really aren't as many RPers as people seem to think and others are stating that putting all RPers in one previously empty server will make it just as full as Balmung is now. Thus far, the only arguments against moving to an official RP server are: 1. But muh house 2. I'll only move if other people move 3. I'm against all RPers being in one place I'm getting the feeling that the most divisive bit about the official server/1 server vs. multiple servers thing is how many RPers the individual thinks are out there. I support consolidation because I don't think there are as many RPers as we'd like to think there are. Putting all RPers in one bucket with their "I enjoy watching RP but not participating" friends and I would say we'd be a mid pop server. I do agree with the whole "we'd still be full" argument on one thing... it takes a crowd to draw a crowd (this was my mantra for organizing events on Atomos); this means that many non-rpers could still potentially flock to the RP server just because it is the most ACTIVE in the open world. -
The Importance of Consolidating RP on Balmung and Having One RP Hub
ExAtomos replied to Sig's topic in RP Discussion
Eh, if threat of server split comes around, why not just pile into a few clown cars FCs that we definitely want to stay with to ensure we go to the same place? I'd put an alt to babysit my FC house and just pretend to be one of those hitchhiker seeds on someone's pants (I'm from Florida, dunno if hitchhikers are a thing in other areas) til after the move. If alt with the FC house (or token, whatever) ended up on the same server, bonus! My opinion on housing is that yeah, it's really super nice and a big part of the enjoyment I get from my gameplay... but it's the people I meet and rp with that are far more important. (This is an argument I keep seeing crop up on these threads about server alternatives and options.) eta: Yes, consolidation. -
If SE was to designate an RP server, would you move?
ExAtomos replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
Remember these tidbits from the Lockdown notice: "If players are able to transfer characters without problems after these changes, we will consider removing the gil limit on character transfers." "For players who own personal housing, we are planning a number of provisions including a reimbursement for the full price of the estate, and compensation for the cost of furnishings which we will add in subsequent updates moving forward. We also plan to accommodate free companies members that plan to move together with or without a free company estate." The latter hurts those who bought a house from a scalper, which is unfortunate. But in general, it does look like SE is addressing some of the issues brought up in previous comments here. -
If SE was to designate an RP server, would you move?
ExAtomos replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
No, they wouldn't, because every server is a raider/PVPer server. Since there's no such thing as open world PVP, there's no need to have a server designated for PVP being fully accessible. Similarly, anyone with a strong PVP focus does not play FFXIV, due to PVP being something of an after-thought. Additionally, since PVP is done through Duty Finder exclusively with every server in the Data center getting tossed in, there's not even a need for an "unofficial" PVP server (nor raiding for that matter) which is telling enough that no one would ask for these things anyways. That being said, I'd consider it. It would depend on how many people move. The same argument could be said for RP though. You /can/ RP on every server (and there is RP on every server), what we're missing is concentration of RPers (like what we have on Balmung atm.) ... Which may be what Yoshi is thinking. lol. -
If SE was to designate an RP server, would you move?
ExAtomos replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
I mean, what if all RPers moved together? The only ones I could see being torn are those with strong ties to non-RPers on Balmung. -
This goes for residents of Balmung as well as the groups on other servers. To me, this seems the best answer all around. If Yoshi picks a low pop or new* NA server and slaps a sign that says "RP Here", would you up your tent stakes and move? I know I would. I can't say I know what % of the active population of Balmung are RPers, but to me at least it seems that it's at least half. Having half of the largest pop server move elsewhere because they want to seems ideal. What I can't do is post this concise request to the OF (like many, I was kicked off.) I know most will say "Yoshi will never do that" and maybe he won't, but to me it seems the best solution and hell, maybe he would agree. *shrug* The main issue I see with doing this is the Snowball Effect. If RPers get a designated server, raiders and pvpers would raise hell since they would ALSO like their own designated servers. I feel bad for those who have friends/family on Balmung and now simply can't join them (friend tokens, please?). But I'm still seeing all the other servers' RP communities making cases for their server as alternatives without any coordination amongst them (and I get why, I do.) Hell, a month or two after the start of SB we may see transfers open back up and we'll be back to the status quo. But I'm still curious how many of you would move for an official recognition. *I am aware a new NA server makes little sense considering the population of many servers is already damn low; I am acknowledging that some existing residents of these servers may be upset over the sudden influx of RPers and that an actual new server would not have that problem. eta: Something that just occurred to me about the rationale behind NOT creating a specific server is that it doesn't hold water any longer since cross-server PF became a thing. Raiders and PVPers can use this feature and have access to many more players, regardless of server. The one large community that can't benefit from this feature is the RP community. So, imo, it makes even more sense for Yoshi to officially label one low pop/new server as the RP server.

discussion Alternate RP server (Updated 5/18/17)
ExAtomos replied to Mercer's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I'm just gonna put this out there... being reluctant to use as many forms of social media as you can get your gaming hands on is not conducive to advertising and building your group. With careful planning and successful advertising, I was able to grow an FC on a backwater JP server from a carcass of only a few active players (but damn stubborn and willing to help) to a thriving international group of about 200. I've been there and it ain't easy work. Confidence, determination, cooperation, and flexibility will get you where you want to be. I too have heard of a good handful of servers offering themselves as alternatives (Jenova, Siren, Mateus, Faerie, Ultros). Is there a good reason to keep yourselves separated between so many different servers? -

Balmung Transfer Restriction Megathread
ExAtomos replied to BumblingSeaBiscuit's topic in FFXIV News
Every time I comment on a thread about someone asking about transferring into Balmung, I liken it to moving to the big city. You have to put forth a lot of effort in order to be noticed and to get involved in the RP that's going on. The player won't have a small group of say 15 people all falling over themselves to cater to their whims since there are so few. I won't go so far as to say it's sink-or-swim because I know there ARE many FC/LS groups on Balmung that WILL bend over backwards to help new players. (And heck, I know of some folks who ONLY rp with those in their own FC and never venture out to any public events, in essence making their own 'small community' within the larger. Whatever works for them.) The big city is certainly not for everyone, but there are many who love it (I'm one of them). I don't feel that Balmung is somehow oversaturated with RPers. Heck, I think it needs more. I love big events and being aswim in chat (/p chat is a lifesaver). Our responses to Balmung's RP population is just gonna be really subjective. -
Balmung Transfer Restriction Megathread
ExAtomos replied to BumblingSeaBiscuit's topic in FFXIV News
It makes sense to me to have a viable RP community on the EU DC somewhere so EU players don't have to fight against high ping since they are playing the game as well as RPing. In a way, I do wish SE would offer these crazy incentives for people to move off Balmung and designate the server as RP. Gonna happen? Doubt it. Can dream though. Heck, if there was a new server officially designated as RP, I'd move. We'd have space for more people either way. -
Balmung Transfer Restriction Megathread
ExAtomos replied to BumblingSeaBiscuit's topic in FFXIV News
Thinking out loud... I kind of wonder if it would be a good idea to plant a solid RP community for the EU RPers whose ping has gotten bad on one of these new EU servers that's coming in. Start at the start, so to speak. Like others have said, part of the problem is that RP on Balmung is so established. It's everywhere; it's a high percentage of the player base on the server; RPers don't have to feel weird RPing out and about cause it's the norm. Every night there are 3-8 publicized RP events; this isn't counting FC/LS events that aren't put on the calendar. Hell, I even had a small group of roleplayers back on Atomos... but I wouldn't transfer back there to foster it; I have a veritable buffet of RP just handed out to me on Balmung. Running events on Balmung is enough work. Trying to grow a new community from scratch (by oneself or with one other person is where I'm coming from here, so ymmv) just makes me cringe. A major problem is that you don't have any sort of consolidated offering of regular RP anywhere but Balmung. You have Siren, Mateus, Gilgamesh (? I thought all RPers left once it became the hardcore raiding server and some problems happened in the RP community), Phoenix, Shiva, Jenova... each with a small group saying "Come here!" Are any of these groups willing to move to ONE server to work together on this and offer what I see as a viable alternative to the big city that is Balmung? (edited for clarity. I don't mean move all of the RPers to an EU server, lawls. I mean an actual viable EU RP server.) -
Roleplayer Uncertainty/Insecurity Theater
ExAtomos replied to Warren Castille's topic in Character Workshop
This is actually a good point and something I've noticed myself over the years. For reasons, I have a shit ton of free time to play and do. I tend to get on better with people who also spend a lot of time in game. But my rp style is very open ended (all of my plotlines seem to go on interminably ), which is a time sink in my experience. Folks with more RL stuff going on may do well with groups that set up scheduled events so you know well in advance that X thing is going to happen on Y day and you don't have to worry about missing much outside of that (and even if you have to miss it, there's usually some sort of transcript posted somewhere.) -
I've gotten a few updates thus far, keep 'em comin'! Also, it would be a HUGE help if you take a look at the list yourself and let me know if you see anything is amiss (character not in that FC, FC no longer around, house sold, etc.)
