It would go a long way to minimize the RNG factor of Shuffle. While I realize it's anecdotal, from talking to multiple AST players, there seems to be a really common issue of Shuffle pulling the same card. It wouldn't be an issue if it was on, say, a 30 second CD, but the CD is too long for you to be pulling the same damn card. That wouldn't make it a gamble, though, and in the end that's what the AST cards are. Unknown fate, yadda yadda. See, now we are getting into that gray area of whether class aesthetics/design/functionality, what ever you wish to call it, are impacting and fundamentally harming the actual gameplay and the simple fact of the matter is that it actually is. The entire design choice behind Shuffle is for the AST to be able to say "Hey, this card isn't very useful for me right now, lets change that!" And this for any number of reasons. A card is all ready held. You have your desired Royal road or You don't want it's effect. No one can make use of it. You get the idea. To add further insult to this injury, Shuffle itself has a staggering 60 second CD only to have every 1 out of 3 to 2 out of 3 shuffles be the same card repeated over and over again. It's counter intuitive to the intended function of the ability and while its not game breaking (unless you are on the cutting edge of gameplay) it is both harmful and frustrating to deal with, especially as this is suppose to be a core mechanic for the class in general.

One thing I see missing here is location, and let me tell you, location is very important to the opening of the gates and you should make sure to incorporate that into your studies. And to put it simply so that it is easy to digest and use: The sight of ancient battles, and more importantly the Aether flowing within such locations are critical to the success or fail of opening the chakra. Alternatively you can simply use places that are soaked to the brim in Aether, like Mor Dhona. Edit: Another thing to consider, simply for the sake of rp dynamics, is the possibility of the task being much more difficult, or easier, based on the levels of the individuals own internal Aether. As stated through the Thamaturge question, without an adequate level of Aether one simply can't become one. Based on that, one could reason that the same could be applied here as well. 1) As much as I wish to be a bigger part of the RP community as a whole, I am a terribly shy person and am often intimidated when trying to approach people. This, mixed with poor time management, has left me with a small rp circle. It is something I am working on, but nonetheless it yet remains a problem for me. 2) I despise and roll based system when it comes to small group combat/activities. No matter what, and despite knowing otherwise, it comes off as slightly insulting to me and leaves me with a feeling of not being trusted to handle my own characters reactions and responses. I work tirelessly to fine-tone and ever improve my character and her abilities and to let all the hard work put in be left up to a simple psudo-rng system leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The few exceptions to this have been in the necessary cases of larger scale events such as fight clubs and FC story-lines. Outside of these, I am the one to insist on free-form. 3) I am self-conscious of my rp to an almost unhealthy degree. To the point where a post could take twice as long to write as it should as I make sure every detail is correct. 4) I love ERP. And I admit that. I find it simply the most personal way to flex and grow a character at their most vulnerable. And I crave for opportunities to express such. Not to the point where I whore around the Qucksand but a certain longing has built up after a long time rping a Priestess, and a blind one at that. A feeling of being 'untouchable' I sometimes want to itch.

Death is the only salvation from this suffering.

Defiantly going to seek out Reiner as soon as my schedule clears up. Work and home life kinda caught the better of me on top of other arranged role play. And im totally into seeking out and others to share in the glory of the monkness.
