  1. I asked a bunch of questions about au ra biology for one of the Live Letters and the response was basically "lore book!". It better deliver or I'm going to end up relentlessly continuing to mix in every bit of nonsensical, contradictory "that might be cool/cute/funny/a neat reference to real life biology/an amusing reference to fictional tropes that make no sense" I can get my grubby little hands on. >_>
  2. [align=center][/align] WHERE: Inside the Dutiful Sisters of the Edelweiss (Rogues’ Guild). WHEN: Every Saturday at 9pm UTC. WHAT: An in-character meeting intended to facilitate Sisters-flavoured RP and plots throughout the week. You can… bring your own plots! discuss ongoing plots! show up and see what other people have brought! Please be… respectful of others OOCly! an in-character Sister (or willing & able to lie about being so)! roughly adherent to Rogues’ Guild lore! Please don’t… metagame others’ plots! bring anything you’re not okay with others joining in with! bring about serious consequences for others’ characters without getting OOC consent first! There is also an in-character Rogues’ linkshell with an OOC Discord; membership of such is not mandatory to attend the event, but if you enjoy the event, you should consider joining the linkshell too! P.S. Fury is my character; Sinistrae and Dextrae are also my OC's, but don’t exist in-game.
  3. I'm Ascian-loving, hate-shipping trash and am looking forward to this storyline in particular. Don't look at me.
  4. I think you're underestimating potential prejudices about that nomadic lifestyle. What the Domans get to see isn't "ah, they're just like the Raen but with different coloured scales". They see "ah, they're like Raen with different scales, and the bulk of them are unpredictable, potentially violent, and not amenable to trade". So you get the Xaela being viewed as this group of generally violent people, who can't be negotiated with, and are better avoided especially by non-combatants...
  5. It's probably because the way the code is structured server-side doesn't allow a system like that to easily be implemented. Which, I mean... that's not a good thing. A robust system (especially in an MMO) should ideally be easy to expand on (or shrink down) for any given number of players. But it does mean that they probably can't change the way it's done without major restructuring that would take a lot of dev time and prevent them from implementing other new features instead.
  6. Some Xaela tribes are hostile to all outsiders, Raen or Hyur or Xaela. Only one Xaela tribe is recorded to accept Raen as members (the Malaguld, who take exiled Raen and the like). It seems, from various texts, like there's a fair amount of animosity between the two clans, or varying intensities and seriousness depending on the individuals involved. -- In roleplay/fanon, I've come across the idea fairly often that Domans and, by association, the Raen tend to view the Xaela in the manner Eorzeans view Beastmen.
  7. Yeah. It was given a preview blog post, and I didn't watch the live letter but it was probably mentioned there as well. It'd be weird for them to post a preview blog so close to patch release and then backpedal on launching it.
  8. It's Saturday again, which means I'll be trying to make another meeting happen at 10pm BST tonight! This is pushing quite late for me at the current time, which is part of why... my character doesn't have anything to report this week. Considering saying he's been sick or away on an unexpectedly long series of levequests or something, because I've just been totally wiped out during what's considered normal RP times. But I'm rather hoping at least one character will have something to say in my stead. Look forward to seeing yous there!
  9. Hhhh that Warrior of Darkness confrontation. Do want. I am excited to watch the cutscenes my friend stream the cutscenes. (Because I'm stuck at antitower with my scrub ilevel, hatred for running content, and shyness about asking people to turn my materials into gear.)
  10. Thancred dates anything that moves. No no, they also have to be broadly Good-aligned! ...because that totally narrows it down. Though that does bring up the topic of plausibility - it's a lot more believable (and therefore likely compatible with other reasonable people's ideas of how things happened) that Thancred (who lives in Ul'dah and has been canonically stated to sleep around - which means even if someone else's character says their sister was dating him in the same time period, the two headcanons are still compatible with each other! Lol.) dated your character's sister than, say, Ser Aymeric (who lives in Ishgard, which was closed off to outsiders until recently, and has been canonically stated to have no interest in romance).
  11. Like... when I did blog RP as a canon, what it generally involved was me posting a thing and people coming out of The Abyss Of Tumblr to reply to my ask prompts/open starters/starter calls/etc. Everyone I interacted with chose me as the representative of the character that they wanted to do this scene with today. They chose to follow me, i.e. have my writing on their dashboard at all (it's easy to blacklist someone's URL if you don't like their content). They had access to my About page (giving basics about my interpretation of the character), my Headcanons page (giving information about the main places I diverged from canon), my Backstory page (giving my interpretation of his origins). They were able to make an informed choice, actively, to roleplay with my interpretation of the character. And tomorrow they could choose to interact with a different version of the same character, written by someone else, and it wouldn't be unusual because RP blogs often have more than 1 "verse" attached to them. Same dynamic goes for the fics I post. ("Everything the light touches is Balmung's kingdom." "But what about that shadowy place?" "That's Kilieit's ao3. You must never go there.") On the contrary, if I were to create a body-double of the same canon character, then approach a stranger's RP scene in-game and attempt to include myself without introducing myself first or checking it would be alright... 1) They didn't choose me. They didn't reach out to me and say "hey I like your interpretation, can we do this scene". I imposed myself, my headcanons, my interpretations, on them. 2) They didn't get a chance to say no. I just walked up and assumed they'd be okay with it. It'd be like me responding to someone else's thread and then getting surprised when they ignored my input because they were counting on a different interpretation of the same character participating instead. 3) They would then be expected to retain our meeting as canon to their storyline. Outside of exceptional circumstances that call for retcons, most people assume that all in-game public interactions a person has are part of the same "timeline", and can be referred to in future at-will. Introducing such an interaction as a canon character has some knock-on consequences, such as... 4) It assumes they will call me back, and not another canon (or their own writing), if they need an appearance from my character in the future. Because whatever they do, if my [noun] canon's interaction is considered [adjective] canon to their timeline, then future interactions with the same [noun] canon will need to fit in line with what I did. If I have some specific headcanon or something... it sort of monopolises the character, for that person, as being me. Doing any of this without asking is rude. Doing most of this without asking is power-gaming. I wish I could say I hadn't seen it in person, but I have. Twice. I have canon RPers I know personally and adore, because they're thoughtful and considerate in how they conduct themselves... but I can't get these inconsiderate interactions from others out of my head.
  12. -steps into the Grindstone- It is I, Ser Aymeric the Blue -- Lord Commander of the Temple Knights. I've come to fight. :cactuar: OH MAN I didn't even think about the implied step-up in sheer martial prowess or magical power implied by playing a canon as opposed to a regular joe. [seethes quietly]
  13. Not for me. You do you, and it's nice to see them around, but please don't talk to me or approach me without asking first, or - pet peeve time, sorry - turn up to public RP events unannounced and uninvited.
  14. I won't take any property for my alts until it's more widely available, regardless of how solid my IC motivations. I'd feel weird taking that opportunity away from someone else when I'd already had my own chance. Like... idk. It's one of the reasons I'm so annoyed there isn't better provision for high population realms. I wish everyone got the chance to run as many things as they wanted out of as many properties as their in-game wallet would let them buy. I'll try for an apartment and, if I get one, see if I can't refine the nebulous idea I had for a business (that I didn't want to refine before I obtained space to execute it in). If I get one and later have an opportunity for the Small estate I truly want, and apartments are full, I'll relinquish mine upon my purchase of the cottage. My alts can have FC rooms (that aren't suitable as public RP venues, due to the nature of my FC, but will at least give them space to express their IC decorating tastes in).
  15. To be completely honest, I hope that this addition is laying the groundwork for a system akin to private chambers in an FC house, where an additional list of empty rooms is generated once the current list becomes 100% full. Buuuut we can hope that we'll wake up tomorrow and au ra horns won't be attached to their face presets any more, and that probably isn't going to happen either... >_>
  16. The type of Astrologian that you play in-game is a Sharlayan discipline. (There exists a job in Ishgard which is titled "Astrologian" as well, but it involves far less casting of spells and far more looking at books to figure out when dragons are going to attack.) I can also think off the top of my head of a number of artefacts and objects in the MSQ, created by Sharlayans, that do pretty unique things with the aether. (Not being more specific because spoilers.) The nation is basically a plot device factory.
  17. I'm probably... gonna try for one. Because running an RP establishment out of my FC's house is impractical for both IC and OOC reasons, and I might have more chance of getting an apartment than a house. Maybe. Possibly. Sigh. A small house would still be much better for what I had in mind... so I guess I won't be too disappointed if, as I suspect will be the case, I don't manage to get an apartment (I'll just think of it like "holding out for" a small). But still.
  18. I wouldn't say there are too many miqo'te (because I don't like to make people feel bad about things they want to play), BUT there is certainly a shortage of lady elezen. I think some cute things can be done with the character creator for them, and it'd be neat to see one around! Of course, the racial lore and setting inspiration for both races is quite different, so one might be better to your taste than the other... what kind of characters do you like to play, backstory-wise?
  19. Takes the current estimated total down to 6,480 per server. It's more than the 1,536 we thought there'd be when news of apartments first came out, but still...
  20. Gamer Escape has full transcripts of the DRK quests, both journal entry and NPC dialogue. Links below. Obviously major spoilers. I think Unnamed Mercenary covered everything else I would have said!
  21. Hello, With the success of Saturday's meeting (attendance was less but those who did make it were engaged and enthusiastic), as promised, I've created a Discord server. Please let me know when you're added to the linkshell if you would also like an invite. If you're already a member of the linkshell, PM me, either here or in-game, and I'll sort you out. Updating the OP shortly to reflect this.
  22. If you happen to be an O2 Priority customer in the UK, then you can obtain some of the items through that app: http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/topics/detail/f751bb7850922f1cfb8352036faf9e44f3989808 They're also running a raffle for an FFXIV themed ps4, so have at it if you're in the club.
  23. Nothing, but now you mention it I should craft some cheap housing items to sell at a ridiculous markup to all the people who are excited about having an apartment now.
  24. I actually covered this earlier while chatting with a friend: >> aghurlal has just heard enough horror stories (from xenophobic lominsans) of what the [black shroud] does to people it doesn't like, and he's fairly certain the forest wouldn't like him >> he's scared of ghosts and the like, so >> ran screaming and hid in cave, starved to death, because sylphs played a prank on him >> here lies fearsome brave lizard man so now U know.
  25. A reminder that the third and final issue of the UK promo should be out yesterday (8th September): (aka the good stuff) This also means websites that stock back-issues might have the second promo issue now; since shops will have sent their surplus stock back to the warehouse, and that's where back-issue websites get their stock from. If you have all three issues, in theory you should be able to send off for the White Chocobo. If anyone who goes through that process can post about what it was like, I would be much obliged. Good luck to everyone!
