I have a not-on-Balmung character whose relative was a Carteneau Warrior of Light - his mum. All he knows is that she mysteriously disappeared five years ago, and he's looking for her to try and at least find closure on her semi-inevitable death. He doesn't even remember that she used to be an adventurer. Her husband doesn't remember either. Or the names of any of her friends (because they, obviously, were also at Carteneau). It's sad. :'3 I'd pay attention to Una Tayuun's dialogue. She's a miqo'te NPC in the Waking Sands from your first visit there until after Titan, and she and her friends used to (presumably) be Warriors of Light. Her dialogue is pretty revealing of what the memory loss is like on the Warrior's side of things.

Don't Chinese servers also get patch content months later than the rest of us? Swings and roundabouts.

Incredibly Detailed Character Planning Sheet
Kilieit replied to MaverickMissy's topic in Character Workshop
...okay, you got me. Necessary disclaimer... please don't meta-game any of this. If you do, I will ignore you. If you think it would be fun to do a plot revolving around something I've written here, for the love of god contact me OOCly first so we can discuss it. I'm completely open to his backstory stuff and his secrets being discovered and becoming relevant, but not when it's sprung on me without prior permission. Thanks -

balmung Lominsan Duskwight looking for connections
Kilieit replied to GentleGiraffe's topic in Chronicled Connections
I got a couple: My main character, Aghurlal, lives and works in Limsa. He's also a Dutiful Sister of the Eidelweiss (though obviously that's secret), and he's currently involved in an investigation, which means he might run into your character while he's investigating stuff. My other character, Confiance, also currently lives and works in Limsa. He's currently studying (and teaching a bit of) Arcanima, but he's fairly well versed in Conjury already and very curious to learn about Thaumaturgy. He also comes from an interesting family - he himself is adopted, by a Gridanian Wildwood father and a Sharlayan Duskwight mother. I'm usually logged onto my main, Aghurlal Qar'akimusun; feel free to whisper me there and we can try and set something up, or at least exchange friend requests! -
The Coil storyline will probably be very helpful in that regard, since it revolves around the exact same bits of land! Here's the first part of it. The "Dialogue" section is what you want to be reading; the next quest in the series is under the "Unlocks" section near the top. Spoilers, obviously. You can probably also find a group in-game to clear it unsynced fairly easily, if you want to see it first-hand instead; since it was recently announced that having cleared Coil or not influences some of the content in the patch that's coming out next month (3.4).

What Does Your Character's Hands Say About Them?
Kilieit replied to MaverickMissy's topic in Fun Prompts
Aghurlal's hands are relatively slender, but they're far from dainty. He has bands of what used to be burns and is now deep, ugly scars. I have this headcanon that sometimes under some circumstances Au Ra injuries will become covered with scales during the healing process, but these burns were deep enough that none of that happened. Maybe they could be from something mundane, like a cooking oil accident... except they're all over the rest of his body, too. He has a few smaller scars from fishing-hooks, using daggers for not-strictly-recommended applications, and miscellaneous wear and tear, too; but that's the main feature. -
Are you kidding =_= There goes that solution, then, lmao. Just make them instanced and 1/character with a demolishment schedule... please.......... Every single instance is also linked to server nodes dedicated to them. Dungeons or just quest instances. They have dedicated and limited server slots running at the same time. This is also why when they released Stone Sky Sea, so many players tried to accessed it at once that there was a server congestion and most people couldn't access. You will run in the exact same issue. System wise, there is absolutely zero difference. As a technical problem, I can think of other MMO's who have solved it - older ones, too. It's not impossible. Which means with enough development time (and money), it'd probably be feasible. They're just not doing it... so of course it's going to be frustrating when they come out with something every few months that's supposed to "solve the problem once and for all" and then doesn't. Housing is a big enough part of endgame, especially on a roleplay server, that any system which makes it "limited edition" is going to remain unliked. It's meant to be a money sink and an economy stimulant - but that doesn't work as effectively if only a small portion of the population can even access the thing they're supposed to be spending money on in the first place! It'd be like if only the first 512 people per grand company could get the best raid weapons per patch, and no one else after that was even allowed to enter the instance to have a go. Make the high gil cost the barrier that prevents "just everyone" from having one (just like the time sink is what prevents "just everyone" from having the best raid weapons) - not the fact you don't have a high-end computer and a really fast internet connection and a flexible work schedule and really, really good luck. I would honestly be okay with much, much higher gil cost for housing of all kinds, if it meant that there would potentially be enough plots generated for everyone if everyone somehow managed to hit that gil requirement. I mean, and/or make you pay gil-rent to keep the instance! That would be fine too! At least it would give you a solid goal to work towards, the culmination of which isn't based on your favour with Nymeia (or scalpers). Ugh.

Sounds good to me! I look forward to it

I should be online most days, at most hours, between about 2pm BST and 2am BST (ya, I don't work, lmao). Since ICly the poster's already up, it makes sense it'd be possible for folks to grab the bloke who signed it (being, Aghurlal) for a chat if they can't make the meeting. I'm in the Knights & Pirates LS if you want an easy way to check my online status, or obviously a player search for first-name "Aghu" will turn it up.

On the one hand: I have to pay for two name changes. ._. On the other hand: Yay, hyphens?
-
I'd rather not, lmao. I'll just wait until they bring out something proper to address the problem... again.

Yeah - unfortunately given I'm running the thing, I want to be awake, and preferably with more than one cylinder firing. It's starting at 10pm local time to me. I tend to start getting sleepy around 3am, so I had to make the decision to try and focus on American timezones as best I could with my limitations. ;v; The advantage is it doesn't go too near the Grindstone timeslot (which begins at 3am), I guess! Still need to figure out getting the times for the calendar listing to display properly; but that can be dealt with tomorrow, when it's not already 5am Oops.

There are two copies of this poster (one in Eorzean, and one in Doman) side-by-side on the noticeboard inside the Rogues’ Guild of Limsa Lominsa. ATTENTION ALL by the authority of Bloody Nobody! this last week (22/4U) the Deck over yonder was destroyed by a Bomb of Garlean make. the Bomb threatened the lives and livelihoods of many Lominsans of every Type, Denizen, Citizen, Yellowjacket, Maelstrom, and Sister alike. THERE WILL BE A MEETING this 3rd SUN of the 5th ASTRAL MOON Wherein we DUTIFUL SISTERS can determine what Assistance we will render to the fair Maelstrom, who are conducting an Investigation into the Bomb Threat. THIS MEETING IS INFORMAL AND OPTIONAL But they blew up our bloody Deck and for one I do not want to wait and see if they will blow up our bloody Guild as well. Yours Fury. OOC Information When: Saturday 3rd September, 9pm UTC Where: Inside the Dutiful Sisters of the Edelweiss (Rogues’ Guild) of the Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks. Who (Attending): In-character members of the Rogues’ Guild. What: An open in-character discussion pertaining to the events of the recent bombing [as seen after Nefzen's Fight Club as of 22nd August 2016], and the characters’ potential involvement in the ongoing investigation. Why: The deck that blew up was literally on the Rogues’ doorstep. Even though this isn’t officially Rogues’ business, many Rogues likely have skills that could speed the investigation along and bring the culprit to light (or drag them screaming into the darkmans, if it so happens). Plus, keeping an eye on proceedings within the city is always a Rogue’s business. Who (Organising): I am organising this specific event, via my character, Aghurlal Qar’akimusun; with OOC support and assistance from @maelstrom-command, who are organising the overarching plotline. Any questions? If it’s about this event, contact me! If it’s about the plot as a whole, contact @maelstrom-command!

In all honesty, I strongly recommend picking up a character native to the setting and just jumping in, both feet forward. Bringing a character from an alternative universe can quickly turn into a prop which prevents you from learning about the game setting rather than helping it. It's also something that you can't reliably assume strangers will be okay with, which limits who you can RP with, and that's never good when you're starting off in a new community. If you pick a race you like the look/feel of, and tell us what it is, then we can probably help come up with some "quick-start" backstories that require a minimum of OOC knowledge of the lore. Maybe someone with a sheltered upbringing, or who hasn't had much of an education; so you can have reasonable excuses to not know about this historical battle, or that far-away land, or such-and-such obscure magic term. Learning about the world through your character and their IC interactions can be really fun, and you don't have to be from an alternative universe to let that happen.

Depends on the goal, and the character, and the way the character achieves the goal. I can think of a few examples where I've either written the character off into the sunset or had them die in the process of achieving the goal in question. I've also had a lot of characters who have achieved their goal, or they thought they had, and then while they're in the process of celebrating, a new huge problem arises and they immediately get something else to do. Or sometimes roleplaying the goal having been met is satisfying in and of itself (e.g. a character's goal is to get into a relationship; this happens; the relationship itself provides additional fodder for RP). I tend to avoid picking 1 over-arching goal for a character - they'll have priorities, but there's usually something else for them to move on to once their former priority#1 is achieved. Maybe it's just because I'm naff, but I find characters with a one-track mind pretty boring to RP. Depends so heavily on so many factors that I couldn't tell you what I intend to do with my current cast.

balmung Searching for LGBT RP group
Kilieit replied to Bastion_Bunansa's topic in Chronicled Connections
I mean, like... "Person A and Person B aren't allowed to marry, because house politics! But they love each other! (Also they're both dudes/both ladies, because we don't need a reason for that.)" The same kinda drama stuff you get for straight couples. But not happening just to straight couples. Sorry I was unclear, my bad -

balmung Searching for LGBT RP group
Kilieit replied to Bastion_Bunansa's topic in Chronicled Connections
I'd also like to ask whether you're looking for a group that's just LGBT players, or a group that has open recruitment + policies to welcome/protect LGBT folks. Either is fine, they're just quite different things as far as recommendations go! -
Medic: Useful. Caiden: The glass is full, right? Wait... where's the rest? I don't want to cause a scene, but I didn't come here to be short-changed! Liuthas: The glass has some in and room for some more. Aghurlal: (Probably poisoned.) Cinu-a: [sniff] (Not containing alcohol. >:[) Shuukami: Half empty. Y'Trinity: Half full! Confiance: Well, before we can talk about the state the glass is in, first we need to talk about the glass itself, and to do that we really need to talk about the nature of existence as a whole. Now, most scholars believe--

Nope, I'm french, so there is no mistake. There is only 1 of those bars in Belgium and you get only a part of the rewards with the Magazine. I sent a mail to the bar in my town to know more about the Tier, I'll post here once I know.. But this will help really few people I believe x_x ! Yeah, it really looks like it sucks unless you happen to be lucky enough to live near one of the bars. x_x Comiserations from a Brit who's still waiting for the 3rd part of our promo to come out, despite the 1st part came out almost two months ago (and will have to send IRL photo to get the chocobo - whyyyyy). They said they wanted to look at lifting gender locks on gear, but then they continually bring out new gear that's also gender locked... I'd love it to be looser (some of the outfits with gender lock are pretty unisex in design, even! idgi) but I don't trust them to do it. >_>

Lol yeah.......... honestly the lack of information on the site didn't fill me with confidence. I thought I was missing something from my lack of vocab, but nope...
