The mailmoogle questchain paints a pretty nasty picture of them. It's described as a "cult" in the quest journal. Warnings for abduction, trafficking, rape and coerced consent, police brutality, gang atmosphere, all that nasty sort of stuff. I only mention some of this stuff in my reply but it's all stuff you're gonna butt up against in researching these guys. Further reading: absolutely The Past Is A Story We Never Tell. It's a mail moogle quest that involves the NPCs Mauh Lihzeh and Urha Lihzeh. It gives far more detail than the other glimpses we catch of the gang.

This is where fading can be helpful - easiest in small groups, though. I personally think it'd be funny to say "okay, can we pretend an hour has passed while Character's Name changes outfits", have the ooc group leader put a ~1 hour later~ notif in party chat or whatever, and then when Character's Name gets back ""an hour later"" (30 seconds in real time) everyone's ICly really exasperated with them... Works as an IC excuse for OOC AFK, too. "Sorry, family wants me to eat sunday dinner, BRB ~1-2hr let's say my character's off getting changed/ready" lol. When I was younger I had to come up with all sorts of contrived excuses as to why my character was suddenly leaving in the middle of a session; I'm sure I must've used that at least once. ...which is actually some of where an IC "just quickchange!" can be a really troublesome and annoying response to get, since then you get dragged into IC "what does that even mean" "well you see--" when the whole point was to get you out of RP. I generally think it's best to, where possible, fit in with the atmosphere of the people you're RPing with... there's no point being contrary or obstructive for the sake of it. And if you really can't stand it or it's fundamentally incompatible with what you find fun, find another group to go with, yknow?

I feel annoying to make this post so soon, but would it be possible to get a reinvite? Same character, same IGN. I was reorganising my linkshells today and you're the only folks I haven't managed to hunt down yet. Thank you! Proper linkshell reorganisation when, SE?

discussion Roleplaying a Xaela of the Sagahl Tribe
Kilieit replied to Kaiserin's topic in Lore Discussion
Yeah... I went with making my own tribes (Aghurlal's been in two) because it meant I had complete freedom to come up with flavour, daily living, and tribe history without running into the issue of potentially disagreeing with someone else about essentially made-up details. There's a certain amount to be said for "just do it anyway! be bold! ignore the haters!", but I know from experience that it takes a certain type of personality to find doing that fun. And this is meant to be fun, so... You lose the networking possibilities, though. I have a Malaguld as well and though I haven't started RPing on him yet, but when I do, I think asking for other Malaguld to connect with is one of the first things I'm gonna do. That's not a possibility on Aghurlal. That said, I don't know how many other Sagahl there are around anyway (from what I've seen of the RP community, there are lots of members of a few tribes - less so of others), so... swings and roundabouts That'd be interesting, actually. Survey of what au ra tribes people roleplay, with options being the canon ones and another tickbox for "fan-made". Difficult to find a decent sample on, though, considering all methods of gathering one introduce a pretty heavy bias... -
Hmm - I know Limsa Lominsa still welcomes beastmen traders. I think Ul'dah used to (and now emphatically does not; beastmen currently aren't allowed within the city at all). Trade is a big motivator for learning language. Obviously Limsa still does - look anywhere in the lower decks and you'll probably see at least one beastman. And I think Ul'dah accepting beastman trade is within living memory - I remember this one leve in Drybone where you have to escort a clueless Amalj'aa (eta: see below) merchant away from the settlement, and he doesn't understand why they won't trade with him ( ). And as for the Sylphs, they seem to have something of a diplomatic history with Gridania that could explain why they would learn "Common" as well.

try WHSmith (ours carried it but was sold out), local newsagents, but the big one is SUPERMARKETS, especially out of town ones. The Asda-Walmart near us had THREE copies of which we bought one - Tesco, Sainsbury's, M&S, anywhere with a magazine and trashy travel novel aisle might have it. And the WHSmith/supermarket outlets at train stations (they're more likely to carry a wider range of magazines, because people buy them to read on the train). My dad says it's the last place most people look, which is why he thinks he was able to find it there Also you can usually ask the staff, especially at book stores, if they - carry the magazine at all - had it in stock but it sold out - have it in stock but you can't find it (they will help you) - have more in the back - can order more for later in the month Be polite and they'll probably be helpful or tell you upfront if they don't have that info. Good luck though ;-; The fact it restocked online once makes me hopeful they're realising they underestimated demand, stand to make a profit, and will print reruns throughout the month. But don't hold me to that, obviously.
-
My dad managed to find a copy for me at the supermarket, and it actually has the code insert in it! Yay! I'm not going to redeem it just yet. They don't expire until the end of the year, and I don't want to mess up my chances of completing the entire promo if I enter 2 codes from the UK promo, can't get the third issue, try to enter codes for the FR/DE/etc promo and get told I can't because I "already redeemed them". I know that probably won't happen, but... better safe than sorry at this point, right?? Is it bad that the stickers make me happy? There's a tonberry and everything.

Updates from the official forum thread: - The magazine has sold out from online retailers (Link) - Only some of the magazines have contained codes (Link) (Link) (Link) - The items the codes can be redeemed for was misprinted in many magazines (Link) - The people handling subscriptions to the magazine weren't even aware it was a major promotion (Link) The prospect of participating in promos from elsewhere in the EU is increasingly looking to be UK's only prospect... >_>

This game has so many good faces you guys. I think my personal fave so far has been this:

discussion Roleplaying a Xaela of the Sagahl Tribe
Kilieit replied to Kaiserin's topic in Lore Discussion
It says they eat vilekin (I presume as a protein source), so bugs are on the table. (Literally.) I really liked Gerel Kha's suggestion of using the Vath armour to represent Sagahl-style clothes. -
"cross the channel" Yeah, when I can spend that much on promotional items, I think I'll be less inclined to get arsey when obtaining them is a faff.
-
If it's sold out from most outlets by the time it's actually released, then I hope SE issues an apology. I think it was extremely short-sighted of them to run this promo with a medium that's essentially limited-edition when, practically speaking, it wasn't limited at all for the other two regions. :I And I hope the FR promo is accessible for people that don't physically live in France, because that's the main one I'm thinking of trying to participate in as an alternative.

My lalafell is also, broadly speaking, a treasure hunter (she's a "retrievals expert" for archaeology organisations), so they might run into each other! I am at BST, so we might have a little trouble roleplaying together on the regular; but from experience, it should be fine for occasional bumping-into-each-other-how-have-you-been type RP. I'm most likely to be logged onto my main, Aghurlal Qar'akimusun. Give me a poke and if I'm not busy I can log over to the tomb robber archaeologist!

Oh, oh, I finally have one for a character that isn't Aghurlal!: Person in charge: [says literally anything] Telluric Medic: that is a bad idea.

Hello I have been enjoying my time in this LS very much! Since it's nearing limit now (110 / 128 at time of writing), I would like to request some clarity on some things! I figured here is better than hounding you in-game since it takes the ANSWER ME NOW pressure away I have two characters currently in the LS, and six characters not currently in the LS. For consistency in LS order across my characters and ability to participate in conversations regardless of who I'm on, I'd like to bring the rest in. I've previously been told that this would be absolutely fine as long as the alts are active. However... it'd put the LS at 116/128, only 12 characters away from cap. The clarity I'd like is: What counts as "an active alt"? Log in once a day? Play for an hour or two about every fortnight? Play for more than a couple of hours a week? Am actively levelling? I log on to all my alts once a day, consider myself to be "actively levelling" one (but only one) of them at any given time, and usually roleplay at least one of them (which one changes) for a few hours a week. Wat do when we get closer to LS cap? If LS cap is gonna be an issue, then I don't wanna make it a more IMMINENT issue by doing something that's basically a convenience and not a necessity lol.

discussion Roleplaying a Xaela of the Sagahl Tribe
Kilieit replied to Kaiserin's topic in Lore Discussion
Yeah as far as farming goes you also gotta remember they're nomads - so you're looking at hunting/gathering (in your case, the "hunting" being "hunting for whatever's ripe right now") rather than cultivation. Maybe the migration patterns are based primarily on what nuts, berries, and clothing fibres are ready for harvesting in which area of the land at which time of year? Idk I feel like I should be looking up examples of IRL people who live in a similar manner, but... -
discussion Roleplaying a Xaela of the Sagahl Tribe
Kilieit replied to Kaiserin's topic in Lore Discussion
There's shockingly little info about the huge majority of xaela tribes. That paragraph is all of the official lore that exists on the Sagahl tribe, including NPC dialogues, gossip bubbles, and quest texts. So in other words: What do you feel is reasonable? Fun? What inspires you to write about your character? What helps you form them more clearly in your mind, and helps you to write them more fluently? What is most likely to play nicely with other players, who might have different ideas? Where there's no official ruling, it's best to bear in mind that your ideas may differ from those of other players, and that you need to be prepared to reconcile and compromise for "random RP" where such situations arise. Looking to similar or parallel IRL societies for inspiration can probably help, as can looking to fictional societies from other settings with similar values. And holding out hope that the lore book has something in it on this topic, I guess... -
This person has a couple threads up in the character workshop RE: their concept, so I'm not gonna reiterate the stuff that's being discussed there. I'd definitely recommend making sure the leader of any FC or LS you contact is up to date on your concept before you talk about the finer points of joining, but that aside: I think sorting out what type of scenes you want to RP on your character would probably help people think of a way to involve her with theirs! Like, there's several angles I can see. Assuming you're looking for relatively light-hearted roleplay (correct me if I'm wrong)!: lonely outcasts to befriend, Shroud-based taverns or clans to integrate with, conjurers to speak with about the state of the forest... Once you know what you're looking for, it'll be easier to try and find it. With that in mind, it might be worth looking through the Linkshell Hall and Free Company Hall for any potential, probably Shroud-based groups you think might suit the overall "feel" you're going for with the character. Contact the leader, ask about the LS/FC's stance on non-standard characters such as beast tribe roleplayers, and go from there.

What do I think of RP alts? sweats In all seriousness, though: Yes. It is a lot of work. I've been playing the game for a while now and all but two of my characters are still parked at level 23. (Why 23? Because by then you have airships and Gold Saucer unlocked for maximum access to seasonal events, and also because it's around then you get your retainers; everyone loves extra inventory space.) If you're the kind of person who enjoys questing and is good at pursuing a goal once they've decided they want it, then levelling alts can honestly go pretty quickly. You've already done all the quests once - you know where to go and what to do - and you can skip the dialogue since you've seen it already. But there's also the fact I've had just as much RP on Confiance and Medic as I have on Aghurlal - Confiance being a baby and Medic a toddler in terms of how high level they are. Although of course I have long-term goals for their appearances that involve high-level content (such as Confiance's title... one day), that hasn't prevented me from starting to RP on them before I have those things attained. That's a good option if, like some people I know, you spend a lot of your free time doing stuff on your main and siphoning it off onto an alt would cause you to lose out; or if, like me, you're a lazy ass. Presumably, people used to roleplay musketeers and broadswordsfolk before Heavensward came out. Maybe you could look into or ask around about the ways they used to represent those things, for use until you can get your alt up to Heavensward?

Could Square twelvedamned Enix really not find anyone better to run a promo with? I was expecting Game or something - physical stores that have a vested interest in increased footfall. (Who can verify your presence and real-human-being-ness by way of the fact that you are there, in person, asking for a code.) Game regularly runs promos exactly like this with Pokémon, and I can only imagine other highstreet stores that sell stuff like game-time cards for MMO's would have a similar interest. But here we are. And I was definitely not expecting something that will take three additional months. Which is totally bizarre in itself, considering the incredibly ephemeral time period that NA had to obtain their codes... Honestly in my experience this is pretty typical of the UK gaming scene (unprofessional, arbitrary, opaque) so I'm not that... surprised, I guess. Glad about the extra items (MGP/Jandelaine/aetheryte tickets), not so much about the everything-else. The main thing I'm worried about is what they'll do afterwards with the photos you send. I don't want to find they've hidden somewhere in the redemption TOS that they're allowed to use the photo for their magazine, with no opt-out. My friend intends to send an email to the magazine asking them about their intentions and their data protection on that matter, but I guess we'll see. It's a shame that we're finding out about these complications now, when the exclusive deal's probably already been sealed, and it's not like player outcry to SE can reverse time (and financial business transactions). Rest in pieces EU region I guess.

Is there a mininum theshold for changing details...
Kilieit replied to Morningstar1337's topic in RP Discussion
I view character backstories and personalities as being subject to quantum uncertainty... That is, until that particular fact about them has been "observed" by a third party, it is both the case and not the case. So, as Shofie says - not a problem whatsoever until you start interacting with people. Knock yourself out. As for after that: -
FFXIV's next expansion to be revealed during October Fanfest
Kilieit replied to Maril's topic in FFXIV News
Believe so. Got turned into Shade Shift, if I'm remembering right: 20% HP shield to all incoming damage. Lasts up to 20 seconds. Fun facts: the level 30 ROG quest is still tuned around the expectation that you'd have Perfect Dodge. I died to it several times, googled for why, and grew even more frustrated when every guide was like "Just use [skill I don't have and can't find in my spellbook]!" I ended up completing it because I glitched it (by accident) and the boss happened to not use the ability that was killing me. Still no idea how you're supposed to do it for legit. >_> I heard there's a PLD skill that similarly got changed from a "absorb all damage from next attack" to "job-native Adloq"? It seems that's the way they want to do those kinds of skills at the moment. Maybe it'll change in the future; IDK.
