  1. I'd adore that. I don't actually have a defined body type headcanon for A, because I have so many conflicting ideas that seem equally fitting, and I always forget what I used last time. I think having an actual customisable setting in-game would help me make a decision and stick to it. (I mean, SE gave us the Horo and then no build slider? C'mon.)
  2. I, too, am in the camp of "I want revamped character customisation for existing races before we get a new one". Separate my horns from my face already god damn I mean what. IDK if we're gonna get either with Stormblood, though - it seems like something they would have announced along with the existence of new jobs, even if the exact race itself hadn't been.
  3. Where's the scar? (It's literally in the screenshot you chose to compare with.) Where are the tattoos? According to someone, according to the lore book,
  4. The "no Tattoos of Knowing" thing is throwing me off. But she really does look like Yda. Maybe a sister or something?? She's wearing a choker, sure, but it doesn't go high enough to cover where the tats would be... ETA: She doesn't have the scar Yda got during the escape from Ul'dah, either.
  5. I handwave a looooot of stuff with "shards make it happen", tbh. Like my character has a chilling cupboard (fridge) powered by ice shards, a bath/shower that can be heated more or less instantaneously with fire shards, and, yeah, indoor plumbing, since the housing items we're provided with seems to imply it exists. His oven is an Aga-like construction that's always on & therefore doesn't need to be pre-heated. I think it's powered with regular ol' firewood, though it can probably be done with fire shards too. I say that the shards are by far the most expensive thing on his groceries list, and they're also the first thing to drop off if he's short on wages that month. Because of their huge versatility and relative (relative) rarity, as well as how comparitively difficult they are to import/export due to... you know... MSQ occurrences, I figure they're probably pretty expensive as convenience materials go. It explains why regular joes don't seem to use them as a matter of course.
  6. That's at odds with the statement, "very few nunh ever become leaders", which... like... that's a pretty clear statement, haha. I stand strongly by the belief that U'odh is an exception, not the rule, because that's exactly what the lore text is - at this moment in time - telling us. If the lore book comes out and says otherwise, I'll change my stance, but for now I'm staying by what makes sense with the lore we already have: which is a sample size of 1 tribe, and a Word-of-God statement which says they don't fit the norm.
  7. FWIW, I would estimate the Strait of Merlthor to be about the same size - if not smaller - than the English Channel, which is swimmable at its narrowest point. Because you can see Vylbrand from Aldenard and vice-versa, even on cloudy or stormy days. On a clear day, and at said narrowest point, you can see England from France and vice-versa. Assuming the curve of the Earth and the curve of Hydaelyn is about the same... ...I'll stop nerding now.
  8. The way I see transferring is like paying to get into a nightclub - you pay $$, you get to enjoy being Where The People Are. (I'm told it's about the same cost as some entry fees to nightclubs, too.) Except paying to transfer onto Balmung isn't just for one night, it's forever; and you can bring alts with you, meaning you never have to pay to get in again. MMO's are actually quite cost-effective, as a hobby, even when you consider stuff like that. Anyway, here's my canned advice for people wanting to start/find roleplay communities on servers that don't have a prominent one:
  9. It says it right here, in the very same instance where the developers tell us what Nunh means in the first place: U'odh is telling you that's the way the U tribe works, not the way that Seeker tribes in general work.
  10. I think the thing I'll say in favour of Balmung is that it's big enough that you can find anything. The first thing you find might not be what you want, but that doesn't mean what you want isn't out there. It probably is. And probably so are 20 people who want the same thing as you do. They might even have a thread in the linkshell hall. Before I was on Balmung, I was on a small RP server in WoW. It can be good for some people, but... if you ever fall out with anyone, or don't get on with their roleplay style... they're there. Forever. You have to avoid them. Forever. Which usually means transferring. Because it's impossible to avoid people in small communities. There are only so many events per week, and, say, only 10-15 people at each... it gets awkward and uncomfortable incredibly quickly to try to avoid an individual (or heavens forbid a guild). Know why no one ever says anything bad about small server communities? Either because there isn't enough of a community to comment on, or because anyone who doesn't like it has to transfer away. That's clique-y, at least IMO. On big servers like Balmung, if someone's mean to you or tries to shut you out, you can just find someone else to roleplay with who isn't like that. Because there are so many people. The probability of you finding 0 who meet your needs is incredibly small. On small servers, if what you find first-time isn't what you want, that's it. Transfer time.
  11. Meetings resuming Saturday 15th October I am back from holiday and although I was taken with illness in the last few days, I (touch wood) seem to be recovering, so I'm hoping to be able to run the meeting as planned on Saturday 15th October, and every Saturday thereafter. If you have any ideas for Rogues-orientated plots to bring, please mention them at the meeting! If you're hesitant, uncertain, or need help running subsequent events, please feel free to hit me up any time before then, either in-game /tell, PM, or by Discord. If you have an idea, I can help you sort out the rest. Daylight Savings Time - Or Not The end of daylight savings is coming up at the end of the month for the UK, and at the start of next month for USA. For the time being, the meetings will remain at 9pm UTC. UTC as a timezone is not affected by daylight savings. This means the meeting will be at the same objective time, but 1 clock hour different once your daylight savings has expired. I'll update the timezone conversion links Soonâ„¢. We'll take a review on whether we should move the meeting times up/down an hour once everyone has settled into their lack of DST and knows how the "new" time feels like.
  12. Hello, I'm back from holiday and hoping to recover from my illness very soon. This means I should be back in-game for linkshell invites with something resembling regularity, and hopefully weekly meetings should resume this coming Saturday the 15th. Still looking for input on what plots we should follow until «FLEET» pick up the Magitek trade plot again. Hit me up by in-game tell or via our Discord if you have anything you'd like to do; don't worry if you have no experience running events, I can do all that for you. I just need ideas!
  13. Omg I love kupobot. It's so cute? And it means I can ask for the weather forecast in the zone I'm RPing in without bothering anyone to visit a skywatcher / trawling fishing sites for one that has this hour's weather on it.
  14. Very smol early DRK RPer here so I'll shut up and listen for the most part, but I wanted to add, WRT "the abyss":
  15. I think the main thing is that that a nunh has to have constructed some sort of method by which he will not lose his nunhship while he's away. Like, a challenge from a tia can come at any time. If he's away when that happens, that could mean he loses his nunhship by way of absence; if the women are so fed up enough of him being away that they accept the former-tia as a new-nunh because it's better than having no one. Or are there people in the tribe loyal to him for other reasons? Has he taken good care of them during his nunhship? Has he shown qualities that his tribe considers important during his nunhship? If so, the women might reject the tia making the challenge on the basis he's cowardly or weak to make a "real" challenge, allowing the current nunh to keep his title even while he's away. U'odh Nunh seems respected by his tribe. He does good things for them, he keeps them in balance, he shows wise leadership and carries out their traditions without hesitation. If one of the tias who wanted to become nunh challenged the position while he was away, I think most of the U would scoff and ignore him rather than accept him - because they'd rather wait for U'odh to return than make a gamble on a tia who doesn't even want to stand up in a real fight. Or that's my take on the situation anyway!
  16. I find Discord extremely preferable to Skype, which is the next most comparable program of which I'm aware. Group chats are more robust and customisable (you can have a "group DM" or a text chat server depending on what's more applicable) Group calls are more robust and customisable (group DM calls are like group Skype calls but without the every-5-second-disconnects; server calls are like Teamspeak or what have you) you can still do 1-on-1 calls and the server stability seems better than Skype's in my opinion Discord mgmt actually listens to their userbase when it comes to adding new features The text chat interface is more customisable (this is a HUGE thing for me because I literally cannot follow conversations on Skype's current text interface) they have full emoji integration come on Promise I'm not being paid to say that. Just my onion x) They have a web app if you wanna try that before downloading anything, but I find the desktop app easy and pleasant to use and it's basically replaced the amalgam of 58945 other second-rate IM programs I initially used to replace the Skype text chat when it became unreadable to me.
  17. Aghurlal's are, in no particular order and making no claims to originality, Smoking. Preferably moko grass fogweed whatever weed stand-in you feel like rolling with this week. He doesn't make a regular habit of it, but he'll accept a cigar if it's offered, and he tends to seek out aforementioned preference if he's having trouble concentrating on work due to stress. Sex. With anyone. He is not actually promiscuous, because this plays against his paranoia (the fear of making himself vulnerable to a stranger outweighs any desire he might have on them), but he's nowhere near as pure-minded as his track record of only bedding people he's been dating for a few months would have you believe. Killing people he considers evil. He pretends like he sees it as a duty, a matter of "not wanting to be a bystander" more than a matter of "wanting to kill" - but despite his apparent shame surrounding the subject, he feels good after he completes these jobs. He feels as though this is his purpose in life, and that by "terminating" these people he's genuinely making the world a better place. I'm about to embark on an entire personal plot about this one - I'm expecting this to alter (either to dissipate or intensify, not sure yet) over the coming weeks/months.
  18. The fishing spot's off the edge of the cliff, btw: http://ff14angler.com/spot/40102 You need Cloudfishing skill before you can use it.
  19. His father murdered his lover. So he ran. Eorzea just happens to be where he ended up, and "adventurer" is the legal(ish) term for his status as a traveller who wasn't born in a city-state of Eorzea.
  20. Honestly, straight up... I think he was thinking "I want to approach my long-term crush dearest friend and see if he's alive without being possessed myself by a vengeful shade". He knows he carries Ratatoskr's blood and is therefore more susceptible to transformation than Alphinaud (who is Sharlayan) or the Warrior of Light (whose only canonical backstory is "not from Eorzea", aka not Ishgardian). I think he was literally, foolishly, just thinking in terms of how to get through the next 5 seconds.
  21. O rite, I posted screens of this on Twitter before I went away so I do actually have something to show. Upcoming dive bar secret meeting place REPUTABLE PUB that I'm still working on the RP background for before I launch it:
  22. Yeah, my character is supposed to have very dark auburn hair. I had to choose between light red, light brown, or black. >_> Ended up going black with red highlights. It's closest out of the options provided, but... I'd still prefer an expanded colour wheel.
  23. Please check the event thread for news regarding occurrences at the weekly meetings to come! Most importantly, I'm looking for a stand-in organiser for the meetings on 1st and 8th October. Details can be found in the post I linked, or in the #announcements channel on the Discord server. Hit me up by Discord, PM, or in-game /tell (ign Aghurlal Qar'akimusun) if you're interested. Speaking of the Discord: We now have an #affiliates-and-guests channel for people who are not Rogues, but who would like to stay in touch or work with our linkshell regularly for plots or other roleplay. If you're someone who would be interested in that, please contact me by PM or in-game /tell (ign Aghurlal Qar'akimusun)! Thank you!
  24. Bombing Plot Please check the linkshell hall thread for additional information regarding the bombing plot, which is now on hiatus for a few weeks. Additional Plots to be Discussed at Meetings The hiatus of the bombing plot means I'm very interested to see people bringing their own plots to the table! Feel free to just show up with something, but I also encourage you to discuss things in the Rogues' Discord if you feel you need any guidance or assistance in running the plot you have in mind effectively. Leader Absence for Meetings 1st October + 8th October Furthermore, for the next two meetings on 1st October and 8th October, I shall not be present as I am both organising and travelling to/from an irl group meetup. I will be reachable on Discord either side of these days, but the Saturdays themselves will be very hectic for me, so I can't guarantee my presence either in-game or on Discord. I would like these meetings to still go ahead, however! This means I am looking for volunteers to run these two meetings. This would mean: - posting on the RPC event thread (this thread!) on the Friday to confirm that the event is going to happen the next day - giving 120 minute / 60 minute / 30 minute reminders in the Rogues' Discord and/or the in-game linkshell - showing up about 30 minutes early to the venue, willing to start RPing, so people know the meeting is still happening - coordinating with the linkshell leaders about inviting new people who attend to the linkshell, if they want to be invited - posting to the RPC linkshell thread (here) after the meeting with a brief summary of what was talked about - taking chat logs and formatting them similarly to previous weeks' chatlogs (accessible via the Rogues' Discord) If you haven't had an invite to the Discord and would like one, contact me by PM or in-game tell (IGN Aghurlal Qar'akimusun)! Regardless of whether I manage to find a stand-in organiser, please just show up and have fun roleplaying with each other. The lack of my presence shouldn't preclude the occurrence of the meeting. As for the cause of Aghurlal's absence: rumour has it he's in bedrest, healing from a nasty gash to his right leg.
  25. Adding to the "using this when I'm actively in-character" crowd. I usually do event RP, so it's obvious by my surroundings that I'm in-character... however, the people it's not obvious to are my friends and LS mates, who can only see my name and location listed (nothing about who I'm with or whether it's part of an event). So the RP status, for me, will mostly serve the purpose of indicating to my networks that I'm busy roleplaying and probably won't be up for helping with your Coil run or whatever. The biggest gift to me is being able to shave the 4-character "RPer" in my search info down to 1 character, the auto-translate phrase {Role-playing}.
