  1. Hi there! My main tip for a first timer would be...don't be afraid to try and even fail. Not every idea works out but you can learn what you like/dislike every time you attempt something, which will help you grow in the end. Most importantly though? Remember to have fun! That's what it's all about.
  2. Welcome from one former CoH'er to another! For what it's worth, so far from what I've seen (being there briefly) ingame and here on the forums, people are really welcoming both OOC and IC. Almost scarily so. O_O
  3. Hello and welcome to the community! If you need a hand with lore or character feedback, just give a yell and we'll gladly offer some help!
  4. Welcome! You're right, there are definitely a lot of FFXI players here. Also, good luck on your FC! It'll be great to have another PvE focused group around ingame.
  5. Welcome welcome! Just going to echo the others and say if you need a hand with anything, including putting your character together or even a sounding board, feel free to ask. This place is full of helpful folks.
  6. Welcome aboard, Rook! Really liking the character idea, he sounds like someone Zarek would definitely get along with. Here's hoping we get to cross paths ingame sometime.
  7. Welcome & welcome back all at once hehe. You're far from the only one filled with happiness and hype, though I don't think FF's been as hyped as some other recently released and on the way games, thankfully.
  8. Welcome aboard! As for the answer about emote use...if this game follows most others, it will all fall to preference. Who you're rp'ing with, how busy the area is, as well as what you feel comfortable with will dictate what works. I'd be willing to be that both variants will be welcome, even if it just takes a little time for people to adjust & adapt to one or the other.
  9. This is an awesome thread and I really like all the great answers! Keep em coming! When I originally started brainstorming Zarek, it was a tossup on if he'd become a Dragoon or a Paladin. I gathered that since it's a Final Fantasy game, there'd be plenty of both (no offense to those playing them of course!) and wanted to do something to stand out a little more, which led me to pugilist. After all, how many people want to be the one fighting a monster with skill and (mostly) bare hands alone? The answer is more folks than I thought but I digress. My initial concept drew on the kind of 'so crazy it just might work' mixed with 'stupid good luck' from Gene Starwind with some 'too charming for his own good'-ness of Gambit thrown in. But, no matter how fun that mashup was in my head, I couldn't see the interactions with other players going well as the character's 'voice' wasn't one that I was overly fond of. That and I couldn't quite nail down a Highlander look that I wanted, since I'd kind of visualized him conceptually as similar to Abel of Street Fighter 4 fame. A bit of video searching and research on pugilists, monks, and the Platinum Mirage later (thanks to both Gospel and Merri for fielding questions on this!) and I'd kind of gone with a character that drew some from both Mugen (Samurai Champloo, for unpredictability and a bit of crazy) and Spike Spiegal (Cowboy Bebop, an almost lanky guy who is able to both dish out and take a beating) for fighting style and some tidbits of typical mood/attitude. For the fighting 'style' he was learning from his mother, I took a bit of the visual concepts of both Fire and Airbenders (heavily leaning towards air, which added to his name) and nudged in a little here and there from Rock Lee (Naruto).
  10. Very cool. I wonder if that means they'll be enabling those options in the next phase/launch or are they already ingame and I just missed them?
  11. Aaaahh I don't remember either of yoouu e___e I'm sorryy my memory is terrible! Who were you in 1.0..?~ >_<; Haha don't worry! I'm brand new. 8-)
  12. Welcome to the community! We're glad you're taking the step into RP with us here, and if you look around you'll see you're definitely not the only first-timer doing so. It puts you in good company! That aside, if you have questions or need a hand, just give a yell!
  13. Welcome back to the stage of history! /soul calibur But seriously, welcome back
  14. Welcome to the RPC! I've peeked in over at WSRP a few times and I have to say you've got a great thing going on there. Here's hoping you have just as much fun here with us.
  15. A comic AND link to Distant Worlds in one thread? You get a thumbs up from me for sure! Welcome to the RPC!
  16. Welcome aboard! Just like diving into a pool, once you get in you'll see the water's just fine. Don't worry though, we're all floating around in RP too, so we won't let you drown. So relax and enjoy yourself, everything'll be fine.
  17. Given that Zarek isn't the type to exert a vast amount of energy into something that doesn't either a) interest him or b) get him paid, here we go! Being the slacker that he is, first thing's first...the night before he's likely out late. Either at a bar drinking or just wandering around (his guardian is Oschon after all) getting a feel for wherever he is at the time or even out causing trouble, knowing that he has nothing to do and no one expecting him anywhere. This would, of course, lead to him sleeping in the next morning. Likely rising in the afternoon, he'd find himself something light to eat and make his way somewhere secluded. While he may be from the desert and a city boy through and through, when he practices (alone that is), he tends to do so somewhere surrounded by nature, be it sand, lots of water, or the still of a forest. This is because his mother (a highlander, who taught him and practiced with him regularly) always took him outside the city to do so and the combination of going through those basic motions out in nature is one of his main ways of remembering her. After that, if he's in/near a larger city that's new to him, he'll wander around to get to know the place. Alleyways, crowded places, the whole nine. Especially places to go to look for work. If it's a smaller city or out in the forest, he'll be content to simply lounge and laze the day away, sporadically throwing in training here and there depending on what or who may be around. As long as he's got gil in his pocket to spend, there's nothing at all wrong with taking a few days here and there for himself and he wouldn't regret it in the least.
  18. Yup, just this. Again. I will say, despite shaking my head at how many times these threads pop up...I'm glad that some of people have toned back their posts a bit. There were some ah...passionate people (on both sides) that really weren't coming across or presenting themselves the way I'd like to think they wanted to. Putting down another server doesn't mean people will want to come play on yours, nor does it help the community as a whole.
  19. Not that it was mentioned, but to add to the cultural influences: Zarek was born and raised in Ul'dah and as such, gil/money is almost the most important thing there is to him.
  20. If everybody had this attitude, there wouldn't be a problem with having conversations about this issue without threads needing to be locked or lines in sand being drawn. It's called a community because it encompasses everyone, even *gasp* people we may dislike or disagree with.
  21. Oh ho! It really does look like a romance novel cover! Very nicely done, Abai!
  22. To jump in on this, I have to say TERA was the worst, most exclusionary RP community I have EVER EVER come across. *snip* For what it's worth, I think I got lucky with this (TERA) as I found a great, larger guild (despite having some prior bad experiences with them that left a 'Never again' taste in my mouth). They were open and generally funloving & easy to get along with. I wasn't quite as lucky in the other games.
