  1. Welcome, welcome! Hopefully you'll be able to find plenty of RP here, and of course if you need a hand with anything, the folks are helpful so feel free to ask.
  2. Welcome to our corner of the interwebs. 8-) Most of the people here don't bite, so relax and have fun!
  3. Huzzah, another forum stalker stepping in to join our craziness. Welcome and enjoy yourself!
  4. Hello and welcome to the community! Better late than never, right? But the LS post does look good!

    hello.

Hey there! Welcome aboard. I know you mentioned possibly looking for people to learn from...and as it just so happens, there are plenty of those people ready, willing, and able to help out. All you have to do is click here.
  6. Welcome to our crazy family 8-) By the way, you mentioned wanting to find more lore...there's quite a lot gathered around on the forums, but there's actually a lot on the RPC wiki, with info from races to the timeline as well. Hopefully that helps!
  7. Hello and welcome to the community (albeit a little late)! 8-)

    Hello!!

    Welcome to the community!
  9. These were great to listen to! Thank you for sharing.
  10. I know I told you last night but thank you again, it was an awesome surprise to get arts of Zarek from you!
  11. A facade of scum and villainy or is that an idea being planted in all our heads...
  12. Very cool, glad to see lots of people getting in on something like this. 8-)
  13. 'EY! This isn't a social gathering! Idunno, you guys seem like pretty cool peeps to me.
  14. Haha! Keep up the great work, Abai You might say that you suck at it but trust me...it's 1000x better than anything I could do. o_o
  15. Thanks! Funny enough I use that same method you mentioned too sometimes. Only downside to that one, I think, is it's a little easy to potentially fall back into 'familiar' character personas (I know I have 2 or 3) to fill in the gaps as well. But, when it works it works really well!
  16. Generally I try to start with an idea of what sort of character I want to play/roleplay, then I spend a while reading up on & researching lore (including things that might stretch/bend the lore somewhat without breaking it). After that, I like to walk through this site and answer the questions noted there (I tend to keep word docs with notes on my characters). http://rpg.ashami.com/ Of course, I leave things open to change as I roleplay them (because sometimes the idea dictates things, odd as that sounds), but generally working through the entire 'character sheet' gives me a fairly good idea of how to get into the character's head and figure out their 'voice'. After that, I tend to fill in things and events which would have happened to help and/or hurt the character in their history. As for how in-depth, it varies. Generally though I prefer to have the major events in my mind with space open for filling in smaller events that effect them as well. Like Freelance mentioned, I try to have some variation between what a character might give in their history and what actually happened.
  17. Welcome back! Definitely looking forward to seeing what you do with all the awesome characters in the reference thread.
  18. Gotcha. In that case, I wouldn't mind helping/being a part on the periphery for sure! There's no place like home, after all. Or is it that you can never go home again...
  19. Woot for more connections. 8-) As for Zarek, during the time both before (about 7 or 8 years prior to) and the 5 years following the Calamity, he was anything from a gopher/messenger kid to a bouncer to paid muscle (with all that that entails). Are we talking the time after the Calamity (Calamity to 5 years later) or are we including the time after the 'missing' 5 years as well? Once we get to the time after those 5 years, Zarek's actually leaving Ul'dah and going MIA/on the run as far as the Mirage is concerned, but he still might have a few contacts and people who owe him a favor or five if that helps. Apologies for the rambling!
  20. I've been playing other games (tabletop and online), tweaking Zarek's story and working on his wiki, building a few IC connections with some other players and hanging around here. Not to mention getting ready for a big move here in a few weeks.
  21. Agreed! This is a really nicely done character concept. I'm no lore expert by any means so you may want to get one of them to skim it to verify but just from a character building perspective I'd say it's well done.
  22. You said it better than I could, thanks. In a way, I view running an event or a storyline/arc as being very similar to DM'ing a game or acting as the storyteller. Sure you can have a very loose outline, but always, always be prepared for players to do things you don't expect and be able to think/react on the fly to allow things to take their natural course....because no one really likes being railroaded.
