  1. This came up because of a 'debate' in our LS. Like I said there, I'm of a mind (personally) that everyone's going to do what they want. But, it needs to be within some kind of limits (aka varying levels of skill in the various things) and make sense IC-ly. Having a character who is a master paladin/black mage/white mage/bard all at once IC-ly is just...over the top to me. Yes, we all have access to cross class skills (and how much of that is IC is of course going to vary from person to person) and given enough time someone could potentially master everything but a large majority of characters are in their 20s-30s which, unless that's all you did for all of your life, it doesn't really make sense (again in my opinion) to say you've mastered half a dozen varying things...some of which have taken other characters a significant part of their life to master. It's very 'your mileage may vary' and only really comes up when people's thoughts on it clash. I mean, it makes sense that people can (and do/should) dabble in other things. Adventurers have lots of skills, usually pretty diverse ones (thus cross-classing) but master of all...yeah not so much.
  2. I'll definitely throw my name into the hat for this as well. Zarek Windsoul ingame.
  3. Just wanted to give you guys a thumbs up. I ran with a team from XI:7 in a dungeon last night. Before the first boss, my computer spazzed out on me and well, we all know how the servers have been lately. Anyway, I finally managed to make it back in and the group not only openly welcomed me back and we proceeded to smash our way through the dungeon with no deaths. So yeah, props to you guys from me. -Zarek
  4. Okay wow, that's pretty smooth. Very nicely done!
  5. Zarek is definitely in need of Thief to round him out completely IC. My elezen alt is hanging out for the time being until Dark Knight (or maybe samurai) pops up.
  6. Keep up the great work, Abai!! Looking forward to getting to watch the next stream
  7. Hmm....for Zarek, it'd be a pile of gil or his mother's earring (which he wears). Those are the item-esque things that spring to mind, otherwise it'd probably be the clan tattoo on his shoulder.
  8. If there's still room, I'll toss Zarek's name in the hat for security work as well. 8-)
  9. Rolld20 is (as I mentioned) something we use in our gaming group currently. It's pretty awesome and some of the maps my friends have put together are really amazing. That and some custom character tokens. I can't commit to a game right now but once things with the move are settled I can definitely join or maybe run something.
  10. To be fair, that is the centerpiece of most of the Balmung group's part of this discussion. At least such has been my understanding. They -DON'T- know all these new people and WANT to welcome them and get to know them and RP with them. Even in some of the ruder (or passionate, depending on how you read it) posts, that's been why they wanted all the RP'ers on Balmung. For the opportunity to add more folks to the whole (which in itself is a welcoming statement on it's own so that debunks the 'elitist' and 'unwelcoming' commentary on Balmung's players). Regarding things on the whole? People should play where they want, seriously. It's that simple. No one can 'make' anyone play anywhere and at the end of the day no one has to justify it either. I, however, do hope that the 'competition' dies down so that the undertone of 'hey, come to my server' stops spilling into other threads and people can somehow figure out how to co-exist. Wasn't that why the extra sub-forums were added? And yet the back and forth somehow continues to persist. We're all roleplayers. We're all the minority in just about any MMO we go to. I'm not sure why that in itself isn't enough for people to just get along civilly, regardless of server choice. The last thing anyone wants to do, I'd think, is turn the RPC into the kind of "environment" for roleplayers that was GW2.
  11. And people look at me strange for liking apple jelly over grape... /stares at the thread and inches away slowly
  12. I'd think both Tyr and Thal would be decent shortened/nicknames, unless you want a specific meaning to go with those as well.
  13. Any ideas on where this'll be yet? Just for planning/figuring out how long it'd take to get there from other cities and all.
  14. Definitely planning to give it a go as well. Here's hoping we all get to throw down together! 8-)
  15. As I was doing my forum surfing tonight I was definitely not expecting that surprise! Thanks bunches for this, once I'm settled in at the new place, you'll definitely be hearing from me again.
  16. LOL...had to post here again after I saw the change to the name of the thread. *two thumbs up*
  17. I think what you've said is just as possible as Gilgamesh doing well, too. Let's not go putting down a part of the community, eh? I'm playing on Balmung but I'd like to say the G-crew has just as much a chance as making it as any other server. It all boils down to people and experiences in the end. EDIT: In before another server thread takes a downward spiral. 8-)
  18. This. QFT. EDIT: Also, given the scope of the community, I'm sure every one here has something they don't want to deal with again due to prior experiences. But no one's forcing anyone to roleplay or interact with those people/things either....which just goes back to the point of people having fun in a variety of ways with a variety of characters.
  19. I'd think it worth noting that you're most definitely criticizing some people's playstyles. Not everyone in the world, fantasy or otherwise, is a kind hearted, altruistic, and heroic person. To expect everyone in a community to roleplay as such is...well a bit out there. Even among 'heroes' there are some that are outliers (see the Punisher, etc), what would you call them? Also, wouldn't you say you're going a bit far by commenting on someone 'having a few screws loose' for wanting to play such a character? Just as it may be fun for you to play a shining knight in armor riding to rescue a princess, it's just as fun for someone else to play a thief or villain or someone who acts outside the laws. The dynamic created by people with different points of views and experiences is part of the magic of roleplaying...so if everyone was a bastion of goodness and propriety...well that'd get boring rather quickly, I imagine. Yes, thieves need consent, but since you are kind of specifically targeting more than a few characters and groups with those comments, I'd like to ask if you've spoken to them or at least researched them to see why those comparisons were made? And for what it's worth? If such a vile, treacherous, criminal person was good at their job? Without godmodding you'd never know that they were a thief. Either way, I'd think the judgement calls on other's playstyles is a little heavy handed and unneeded, there's more than enough room in the community for everyone.
  20. I would argue that you don't need a 'bad' or vigilante character to have associated with the people here. You could have a normal/good character who runs a shop that someone stole from repeatedly or something similar to that.
  21. Alrighty, here's some shots I nabbed! Click away and enjoy (hopefully)!
  22. Welcome to the crazy and the fun And like Landstander said...you're now one of us. O_O
  23. Actually, with you mentioning, I can kinda see it. I"m not sure if it's the eyes or the skin/hair color combination or both.
  24. To prove I'm not a one trick pony...here's an Elezen I ended up making in the CC. If I make an alt, this'll probably be him.
