  1. Welcome welcome! And don't worry, there's more than a few of us who're finding our way here from GW2 and plenty of other games out there right now, so a lot of us are in the same boat right along with you.
  2. I, for one, can definitely understand having to find the right avatar/icon/setup for a forum, not to mention a little forum OCD in general. Still, welcome to the RPC! If there's anything you need a hand with or even just a sounding board to bounce ideas off of, just let us know.
  3. It's like Hotel California...but with :moogle: and :chocobo: @_@ Welcome and I hope you enjoy your stay here!
  4. Welcome aboard! And while I'm not playing a miquo'te myself, there is a discussion about RP'ing them going on over here Bam! that might be of help to you.
  5. That's a great look Manari! If you feel like sharing, please pass on how you put it together. I'm especially curious about the mask.
  6. I won't lie, I was actually looking at something similar to this myself. It just depends on how dark knight is unlocked once it's announced and how it plays. The story they offer on how one becomes a dark knight (while not something everyone will use/incorporate) could spark creativity to as was said, put a spin on old concepts and keep them interesting. Though rather than become evil, I'd want to play a semi-redeemedish dark knight. But, no matter what, there's sure to be a lot of them around.
  7. And now to get in on this, just in case! Let me know if there's any other needed information that I'm missing. And thanks in advance if I get chosen! Name: Zarek Windsoul Race: Hyur Midlander (ingame) Profession: Competitive Fighter (Bloodsands or anywhere where money can be made), mercenary, bodyguard, Platinum Mirage Bouncer/Muscle (former) In-Game Classes: Pugilist, Monk, Lancer (staff fighting) Skin: Medium-Dark Brown Scars: There is a slight, diagonal scar that runs from his right cheek to his chin as well as a larger one that trails down from his forehead over the top of his nose to just below his left eye. The scar over his forehead/nose was intentional and therefore less 'neat' than the CC presents. He also has an assortment of other, minor scars on his chest and back. Hair: Jet black in a small, perpetually messed/messy mass atop his head (I think of it as similar to another mop head: http://s2.zerochan.net/Spike.Spiegel.full.787489.jpg but it's open to interpretation!) Eyes: Very dark green Build: Due to his parentage, Zarek stands at the uppermost height usually found in Midlanders, with a form that while solid and toned can outwardly appear almost lanky. Demeanor: Zarek is typically seen with a smirk (or a smile) on his face, if he's not drifting off in thought. Clothing Style: With Zarek it's all about comfort and being able to move freely. Loose fitting shirts/pants as well as open or sleeveless shirts are his usual go-to style. Possible Depictions: Flipping a coin, sparring or training, having a drink or a smoke....really whatever works, he's a pretty versatile character I think.
  8. I'm more than okay with seeing costumes (dye-able, yes please) from other FF games. As for those characters making possible appearances? I'll chalk it up to being just like running an instance or dungeon (more often than not) and explain it away as needed, which shouldn't be much if it's just an event ingame.
  9. Just to chime in that you aren't alone on this, Zarek actually is a 'mixed heritage hyur' (props to Mara for coining that one LOL). Gospel also confirmed that it was lore okay during my barrage of questions for him. 8-) For what it's worth, I'm going (ingame) with a max height midlander, rp'ing him as just above the midlander height (on the chart posted elsewhere on the forum).
  10. SPOILERS: The Warriors of Light were the X-Men the whole time and the Echo is a mutation. Bahamut shows up, ominous music starts playing, then it's completely cut off by this: It shocks everyone. Turns out squenix was bought out by disney-marvel and no one told anyone. Greatest plot twist in the history of all video games. RPers and casual players alike fall out of their seats in utter shock as the X-Men theme blares through their speakers and Cyclops is shooting eye lasers at Bahamut as Wolverine is fighting Garleans. Everyone was wrong except that twelve year old. Then the game goes down forever. Best ending in the history of gaming. This is both the best and worst thing I've read in a while. LOL congrats Uther.
  11. I have a day off coming up next week...I'll be back here to list Zarek's then. 8-)
  12. Oh that's all kinds of hilarious. Very cool idea!
  13. Funny enough, I was -just- talking with Mara about a piratey linkshell this morning.
  14. I have to say when I first started looking at FFXIV to RP, one of my big concerns was actually that I might be surrounded by people who were RP'ing as super powerful experts in every single class they touched. Thankfully, here at least, I've seen that by and large that isn't the case. As for myself, Zarek will be a hand to hand fighter first, everything else will be secondary. I plan to likely take a little lancer (staff fighting) and maybe a small bit of archer (which he'd have to learn). Even lower than that will be magic because the character is a melee combatant more than anything (though who knows, RP may change that!). It all boils down to finding a way to a) create the character you envision then b) figuring out how to reasonably explain (and if one wants to go the extra mile - align it with general roleplay standards). That's just my approach though. After all, if a character is amazing at every single thing they touch, where's the fun in interacting with them? Where's the struggle and why would they need anyone else?
  15. Welcome to the madness! Just one question though...what's a Nyanologist? LOL
  16. I knew there was I reason I liked you other than the Patriot icon! So while Uther and Zarek pulled great posts about some of my favorites as well (Batman and Luke Cage) I'm quite taken by the Maximoff twins The Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver (semi-biased, I have a thing for speedsters, I actually just bought a pair of Flash converse). It started with House of M and Decimation, then pretty much snowballed from there. *Dramatic High Five* Flash converses for the win. Also, you equally rock, SW.
  17. This. Always play the game on hard mode. All the cool kids do it. 8-) How about always playing the game hard? 8-) ...and letting me watch Just for you Gerik. Because you're cool. 8-)
  18. This. Always play the game on hard mode. All the cool kids do it. 8-)
  19. This is a tough issue. But, as has been said, no matter what server people are deciding to choose let's please try to remember that everyone's here, whether it's because you were in 1.0, because you found the site through google, or because you saw this site linked elsewhere....we're all here because we all like roleplaying and want to do so in FFXIV. I think if everyone approaches this poll, and even the discussions like this which are sure to follow as we get closer to Phase 4 of beta and Launch, it'll help smooth things on both sides of the aisle. We're all in this together, so to speak. Now have a moogle. :moogle:
  20. PeriasGift makes a good point in that it's an easy (and probably more open than using guild housing) way to breathe a bit more life into a zone and the community. Once the game is live, someone'll definitely need to make a listing of known companies/crafting groups' main locations and times of operation so that people will know where to go for crafting/tavern/business rp of varying types.
  21. This, IMO. I'd say having a regular place where you and your LS/FC gather is well and fine. It increases visibility and will make groups easy to find but I think that trying to put a 'claim' on any land can be more trouble than it's worth in the long run. One group claims it, another says they've always had a claim on it and it just goes on and on to (usually) build more drama than it's worth. This goes doubly for the major cities (like Divinity's Reach as was mentioned in the OP), given that by and large I'd bet most of the buildings are owned by an NPC faction of some sort.
  22. Nnf. I could go on about this topic for literally hours. But first I'll say there's been some great characters listed here so far. I'm a huge comic fan and it's always great to know I'm in good company with other fans (that aren't nerd raging over how one favorite could beat up another favorite). My favorite at the moment is, Luke Cage. Say what you like about his (old) costume (or lack thereof), and how he began as a very blatant blaxsploitation character, he's become not only one of the few steady moral compasses of the marvel universe, but he's just a good guy. Not good in that he never messes up, but that he tries to do right by his friends/family and stick to what he believes in. All of which are fairly rare in minority comic characters in the larger companies, given how many other stereotypes they're written into. He's this guy whose done time, married the woman who had his baby after a fling, and has led two superteams (with a third coming up). Other mentions include Nightwing (despite how much I hate the VAST MAJORITY of the New 52), the Red Hood (who I dressed as for Halloween one year), Black Panther, and way too many Avengers to mention. I think in a way, yes those characters (and the stories they've been involved in or are historically a part of) do influence the type of characters and RP I write/enjoy most. I like characters who can be relevant in every 'level' from sagas and tales about life on the street level and everyday stories where money is an issue all the way up to those that affect things on the worldwide (at least as much as we can in an RP community) scale. Zarek is a character who (by and large) grew up in a mafia-style environment. He has some skewed views on what's important and while he can't call down fiery rocks from the sky, he can float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. He falls back on what he knows and while some people might think it's wrong, it's his way of helping and bringing something to the table.
  23. Just take it at your own pace. If you're in beta, there have been some community events that you may want to try to peek in on just to watch and get a feel for what's going on. There's also a thread (here in the welcome section even) for grabbing a mentor to help you out, if that would help.
