The worst part was that Kingsglaive has almost all of the plot for the first half of FF15 in it. Add that on top of 15's terrible, terrible narrative and it turns the whole thing into a blatant cash grab. 15 and all it's BS has ruined main line FF for me. It's going to take a quite a lot for me to even bother with 7R or 16 whenever they decide to make it. F--- you Sqeenix.

In addition to what Kilieit mentioned: Black Magic can literally kill you to use without the Soul Crystal. This is seen in the BLM quest line several times over. White Magic can only be used by those who have been granted the ability by the Elements; otherwise it's completely blocked off. Summoning is only possible if you are able to fight and defeat a primal without being tempered, thus requiring the Echo which only select MSQ characters (and you) have. The ancient Allagans created the art, though, so it's possible there are ways around that restriction. Scholarly magic is probably the only one of the 'job' level magic that could be usable by the laymen. Even then, you'd have to find a very rare Nymian fairy to technically accomplish it. Overall, specific magic that isn't a part the base classes can't really exist for commoners according to the in-game lore. That said, it's kinda boring to play that way, so do what you will. People typically are suspicious of claims of black/white/summoners because of the lore behind them though. As for Red Mage, it's all going to depend on how it's put out there. Is it like the Paladin, where anyone with the Soul Crystal can be taught? Or is it like Summoning where it can only be you? No one knows yet.

Yes. Yes it indeed is. I wish you luck in your RP endeavors, Captain.

balmung Bookish Pirate & Shut-in Merchant LF RP!
Jonexe replied to Roro's topic in Chronicled Connections
Zozomaru Roromaru is a known treasure hunter, who often disappears for days on end on trips to find... well... treasure. Zozo and your merchant could easily have a business contract, as Zozo is often in the market for supplies and information. Feel free to hit me up, though I'm out of town for a few days so you likely won't see me on until Sunday. -
ragnarok Looking for Linkshell, FC or just RP!
Jonexe replied to H'naka Yuu's topic in Chronicled Connections
Seconding that EPR is hugely exaggerated. I've been RPing on Balmung since 2.0's beta and I've had all of once where someone who EPR'd propositioned my character... fully IC and not in a disgusting or overt way. It was subtle and tasteful, they took 'no thanks' for an answer immediately, and it never came up again. -
balmung Mafia Guild looking for connections.
Jonexe replied to Lilira Lira's topic in Chronicled Connections
Zozomaru Roromaru (me!) and his FC run a black market relic/information/etc trading business on the extreme down low. Please feel free to hit us up if you need something like that! Likely that your Coven may have heard of the Razortalons (my FC) or that Zozomaru is known for being able to procure... harder to find things; though the exact nature of either is generally unknown. -
balmung Edda Vincents: NIGHT WITCH - lookin for new friends, etc.
Jonexe replied to Edvyn's topic in Chronicled Connections
Edda and Zozo might get along. Zozo's a wandering relic hunter of mostly hushed repute. Some reasons that might link them together: Zozo is known for taking on special students, and teaching them outside guild curriculum, so there's potential for a long-lost student hook there, if you'd like. Being a wanderer himself, they may of crossed paths. While not public knowledge, Zozo is known in certain circles for the black market sale of the most valuable treasures he comes across. Zozo visits the HoD tavern regularly. Dark Souls 3 has consumed my... soul... lately... but I do try to pop on every other day. Zozomaru Roromaru is my character; feel free to drop a line if you're interested. -
Phantasy Star Online 2 x Final Fantasy XIV Collaboration

Knowing Sega we'll have an announcement of a cross over event, but it'll eventually be postponed indefinitely. You know, just like that whole NA PSO2 release. -
Having a hard time picking a solid RP free company on Balmung
Jonexe replied to isaacmerquise's topic in RP Discussion
Solid advice. I would also add that many FCs may be quiet in FC chat, but are still actively out there doing things. Being IC all the time is not something all players do. You have to look into events being hosted and find ways to insert yourself into group. Additionally, many large RP FCs sort of rely on the members getting out their and making their own RP. They are more of a gathering place for like minded individuals. As Nebbs mentioned, you need to figure out exactly what you're looking to get out of a FC before just joining one. -
From the sound of things, Kinono would likely get along great with my character, Zozomaru Roromaru. He's something of a wanderer, with knowledge in a random assortment of things from that. Upbeat, sarcastic, willing to go down the rabbit's hole on a completely made up topic, a little flirty, but generally a decent guy. Feel free to look me up!

I think the topic says it all really, but here's a link too! http://www.jp.square-enix.com/ff9/en/ Personally, I'm excited. FF9 is a great game, and the modding community has done some absolutely wonderful things for previous games. It'll be awesome to see what can be done with the game in a few years.

I'm a Lala, and up for RP with other Lalas. Feel free to look up Zozomaru Roromaru. Send me a mail if you'd like! It is a bit harder to find people to want to get into RP more that's more than cursory when you're a Lalafell; but it's not easy for anyone. You just have to keep at it! Being a bit more aggressive certainly helps. It also helps to have particular quirks or habits that make your little Lala more memorable.

The multi-installment thing makes me a little upset only because it looks like a blatant cash grab. There has been no mention of why they're doing it, other than: "If we dedicated our time to a single release, parts of it would become summarized. We’d have to cut some parts, and additional parts would come in few, so rather than remake the game as a full volume, we decided to do multiple parts." I would love it if this means they're going to flesh out certain things, making them more interesting and lore-tastic. I still hope it does mean that. Unfortunately it likely means we're going to get a very pretty game that drops the slower story elements to get to action segments, likely skips things like Fort Condor's minigame, and a whole slew of $40+ FF7s to buy. The original game came as a complete package, and HD graphics are no excuse for not doing the same with the remake. What's wrong with a multi blu-ray game? Not much, unless you're trying to milk the hell out of it. When you give zero details about what it means, other than people are going to be paying for an incomplete game, then you're bound to anger your fans. If this was the Square of FF7's original release... well I might believe them. Their recent missteps with FF13, FF15 taking forever, All the Bravest being a cash grab, and more make it hard to trust them. On top of this, they're doing the exact same thing with the new Hitman game. Granted, with Hitman, the subsequent releases are going to be free... but it's still worrying. I'm going to withhold being angry or judgement on whether I'll buy the game or not until we get more details... but it is disheartening for a fan.

This is precisely what someone who has had their brain altered by cat like aliens would say, were those cat like aliens trying to cover up their abductions. ... I'm on to you.

balmung Old couple looking for old (and young) friends
Jonexe replied to plumsamurai's topic in Chronicled Connections
Zozomaru is 49, something of a traveler, and a mage as well. He might get along with the two of you. -
Sometimes I feel like the only person in the world that doesn't care about skin color; especially in fantasy. I can't think of a single moment in my life where the color of a person's skin has positively or negatively affected my enjoyment of any form of entertainment. That said, the movie looks terrible... but I'll likely end up seeing it. My friends and I get bored quite easily and make terrible movie choices when it happens (looking at you TMNT reboot).

All the ideas to join an FC are great, but there's another avenue a lot of people don't think about... events! People on the RPC hold all kinds of events; from one off festivals to weekly taverns. Take advantage of them! The people there are there to RP. By being at the event you have something in common with everyone else around you. You can the event as a spring board for topics to talk about. It doesn't take much to make comments about what you're seeing/hearing/experiencing, and other will likely comment in return. It's an excellent chance to strike up RP with random folks.

balmung Lalafell seeking Connections
Jonexe replied to GhostlyMaiden's topic in Chronicled Connections
Zozomaru quite enjoys the company of other mages, is a lover of Ul'dah, and is one of the master race. They'd probably get along well. Feel free to look me up! -
Edit: Double post, meant to edit the above!

The laptop you posted will preform quite well indeed; though it seems to be completely overkill in terms of Ram. I would suggest this one personally as an alternative: http://www.sagernotebook.com/Gaming-Notebook-NP8678-S.html Less ram, similar processor, but more video ram and customizable. It's slightly cheaper than the current sale price for the one you linked. As stated above, though, both of these are essentially desktop replacements. Your lap is going to be on fire if you pump those settings up too high. Additionally, both of them are going to have terrible battery performance while gaming at those high settings. For what you want to do, I think something like this would do very well: http://www.sagernotebook.com/Gaming-Notebook-NP8657-S.html Smaller, lighter, slightly less powerful, and much cheaper. This is essentially what I have with two-years-newer hardware and it runs FF14 wonderfully.

I have a Sager and highly recommend it both for quality and their customer service. They come with no bloatware installed, the frames are very well built, they have some of the better heat dissipation methods I've seen for laptops (mine has 2, rear exhaust fans), and the sales reps seem to actually give a damn that you get exactly what you want (instead of what they want to sell you). On thing to keep in mind, since you specifically mention graphics cards, is for Nvidia the 'M', or mobile, series of cards is not the same thing as their desktop cards. They are weaker and more subject to issues with heat. That said, my Sager plays 14 at 60fps just fine with a 770m, though I don't max out the settings. Lore Question: Soulstones and how to acquire them.
Jonexe replied to Lumizumi's topic in Lore Discussion
Not sure if it's been covered; but the Summoner, Black Mage, and Scholar quests all deal with you learning techniques recovered from ancient tomes that are being 'deciphered' by your quest giver (with the 50~60 SCH stuff being taught to you directly). That says to me a soul stone isn't required to learn the abilities or use them; outside the implications from the BLM stuff that using Black Magic without the stone will -
I have a feeling I've missed out on some PVE stuff...
Jonexe replied to Riven's topic in FFXIV Discussion
There's quite a lot of old content to do and most of it is pretty good. Trials and dungeons will be relatively easy to accomplish. Crystal Tower, on the other hand, might be tough. It requires 24 people and almost no one really runs them anymore in the duty finder. I don't mind doing old content now and again with a group of like minded folks. I can heal or dps all of it. Feel free to hit me up if you'd like some help.
