Personally I found most of it boring and annoying. Half the quests are you running from one place to another while actually doing nothing. The trials you end up doing are great, and there's a couple funny moments; but overall I found it quite dull. It is certainly, though, one of those things where you either like that style of humor and story telling or you don't.

new to RP where should I start? / new friends
Jonexe replied to andblackjack's topic in Welcome Desk
Welcome! Most people tend to come up with a general concept for there characters. A basic backstory, profession, and motivation are good places to start. There is a lot of resources here on the RPC in the "Character Workshop" section. You can also look at various characters on the Wiki to get an idea of where to begin with all that. Some people like to make elaborate and planned pasts and futures for their characters, others like to develop things as they go along. Whatever works best for you is the best option here. Either way, designing these things will help you decide on what your character is, and how they'll react with the various situations they come across. The next step would be to go out in the game and find people who are RP friendly and... well... RP with them. Most of us will put some sort of notification that we're an RPer in our search info. If that's a bit much, you can attend events that people post up on the RPC as well. You can also do some RP on the forum in the IC tavern to get a feel for it all. Whatever way you begin to RP; the best way to learn is to do. You just have to pick up and start. Your tag there says you're on Tonberry. I'm not sure if there's much of an RP community there, so you might have to do some digging to find folks. If you're capable of being on another server, Balmung and Gilgamesh are the major RP hubs. They're difficult to make a character on though. -
I feel that healing can't be the end-all-be-all, otherwise you'd never have things killing people outside freak accidents. I don't think it just instantly restores your stamina either. We have plenty of NPCs that are ill, are 'healed' but still need rest, etc. For the purposes of the game, sure, it can do anything... but like many things that's for game play not lore or realism. I tend to RP that healing magic will stimulate growth, like a super Neosporin. It can accelerate the natural healing process, thus healing cuts faster or potentially preventing a fatal wound or disease; but you're still going to be left weak and needing rest.

I personally would recommend viewing the UC stuff in chronological order. There's numerous references to events in later series as well a progression to why the plot moves the way it does. Additionally, technology (for the most part) progresses upon itself in a way that will seem odd if you miss something. Sooo... Mobile Suit Gundam 08th MS Team 0080 0083 Zeta Gundam ZZ Gundam Char's Counterattack Gundam Unicorn Gundam F91 Gundam Victory That said, the major plot points would be: Mobile Suit Gundam Zeta Gundam ZZ Gundam Char's Counterattack Gundam Unicorn Everything post Unicorn is set enough years in the future that it could be considered a side story, though it's technically not. Crossbone Gundam, as mentioned before, follows F91... but to my knowledge it only exists in Manga form. Shame too because it's amazing. 08th MS Team and it's ilk are filler stories that mostly show different view points and fill in gaps in technological progression.

Because the playerbase are fucking idiots when it comes to smart FATEing. Even prior to the FATE boost, Churning Mists and up were superior to Northern Than, yet you still have idiots at level 55+ grinding in NThan. But Kellach, some random guy on a game forum told me N. Than is the best leveling spot from 40 to 60! Seriously though, I third Hinterlands FATES. Even with only one group going you'll never have to wait on FATEs, and you can easily get a level in about an hour and a half or so. The only thing to avoid is the Goblin FATE in the middle of the right side of the map. The first two stages are only worth 10k, and while the boss is worth 130k, it takes like 25~30 minutes to kill him unless you have three or more FATE groups running. It's not worth it with only one or two.

The best thing I've found to do is to look for the people with "Walk up RP welcome!" or something similar in their search info; then send them a /tell or simply emote at them. A lot of people don't realize you're trying to engage with them, especially at big events, unless you're a little blatant with it. When you get 10~15+ RPers all in a room it tends to scroll by very quickly, so you look for specifics in order to keep up. If you want to get in on some of it, you need to get that person's or group's attention. The different default color of a /tell is an easy way for someone to notice that you're trying to interact with them, as is using a specific person or persons names in your emote.

I highly recommend Sager laptops. I have one and I doubt I'll ever buy from another company again. http://www.sagernotebook.com/home.php They use very high quality frames. It's a bit heavy, but any laptop with power in mind is going to be. The build quality is excellent. Dual heat exhaust fans piped out the back, instead of the side, so it won't bother you when using it for extended periods. Everything is custom built. When you get one it will come loaded with only the OS of your choice and the software/drivers necessary for the components. Absolutely no bloatware. They tend to come in about the same or cheaper as ASUS and other brands. Their customer service is also outstanding. I placed my order online. About an hour later I got a phone call from a sales rep to confirm the order was what I needed. He asked me about my plans for it, how much I was willing to spend, etc. Then he showed me some ways I could go cheaper on some components to get other better ones while maintaining the same overall price. I got a personal phone call when it was shipped. I got another phone call when it was delivered; just to make sure everything was working right. Finally, about a week later I got a phone call to make sure nothing was going wrong and that I didn't need any help. All and all one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. Edit: I've had mine for going on two years now without any issues, if you're worried about reliability.

A great way to get into RP without getting in too deep is to hang out in popular spots and do some casual walk-up with people. For example, the Quicksand in Ul'dah often has tons of people that just hang out RPing with whoever catches their fancy. Most of them will have something like "Walk-Up RP friendly!" in their search info. Find one, and just sort of 'bump' into them. You could also send them a tell asking if there's anything noticeable about the character that could catch your character's eye. Getting your feet wet, as you put it, in this manner lets you flow in and out of RP on your schedule at the pace that you feel comfortable with. You might even make some friends that way!

Not really a fan. Though Cloud looks about as wimpy and depressed as post-FF7 compilation garbage has made him.

So like. I'm from Nebraska. I'm living in Nebraska. My rant of the day is about people who generalize/stereotype others... Concur. Also in Nebraska. If anything, Nebraska should be nuked because of Husker fans, not the fringe wackos. I kid, I kid... maybe... Enlisted soon to be Air Force, very specifically requesting "Not Nebraska" 10 times on dreamsheet. Currently in Northern Colorado, it like Nebraska but not awful. Big difference. They're still telling folks dream sheets still matter? Hahahaha. Don't be a in a job having anything to do with C-135s or Nebraska is one of about three places you can go.

I can't find it anymore to save my life, but I distinctly remember there being an in-game lore note about how Lalafell don't visible age past the point of maturity. Or I'm insane. Either is possible. Edit: The base lore of Lalafell also states that it would be difficult for Non-Lalafell to determine a Lalafell's age. "The Lalafell are a folk both rotund and diminutive. Small by any race's standards and possessed of a childlike countenance, it proves difficult for non-Lalafell to gauge an individual's age with any degree of accuracy."

You can like and dislike whatever you want; this is just flat not true. Kefka is a psychopath through and through. He's deranged from the very first meeting with him. Additionally, when he wants to obtain the power of the Goddess he, well, does so. And then destroys the known world and pulls it down into a ruinous cycle that would have eventually killed all life on the planet unless he was stopped. Sephiroth is much more collected, even at his worst moments. He succeed at summon Meteor...... and that's about it. Oh, he killed the President and Aeris. But we see his decent into madness, we know why he is the way he is. He's a hero that falls once the truth of his existence is finally understood. They're entirely different characters in every way save the "Kill all humans" aspect of their ultimate plans.

The plot is pretty crap. "Hey, let's fight against this thing the whole time and Further compounded by most of the lore being stuck in the little encyclopedia. I liked it in games like Star Ocean, where it explained some terms and expanded on the dialogue; but literally most of 13's essential world building lore was in the damned thing. I could only read short bits at a time because the horrible sound track would be in the background, and I didn't have the OH SO FUN endless corridor of emptiness to drown it out. On topic: I'd be surprised if they didn't add in anything from the Crapilation. Even if they didn't like it (which I'm pretty sure they do), they're going to want to tie it all together better. We just have to resign ourselves to that fact. Additionally, here's an article with an interview saying they're planning to make changes. http://www.engadget.com/2015/06/17/final-fantasy-vii-remake-interview-e3-2015/ Specifically: Hopefully they do it in an elegant way that actually makes sense, instead of just cramming it in whenever possible.

I can't speak to Gilgamesh, as I don't play there; but Balmung is alive and kicking with RP at pretty much any time of the day. You have a healthy population of both US and EU players, which really helps when you want to find people to play with regardless of the time of day.

It hit $2mil roughly 9 hours after posting. I do believe that's a record for Kickstarter.

I'm not really changing anything. I'll likely be playing a fair amount during the early access weekend, but that's not much different than my normal play schedule. I play 14 because it's fun and relaxing. I don't have any desire to burn through content. Years of playing WoW that way made me really lose my appreciation for the game and the world, and ultimately lead me to not enjoying it anymore. I did that with 14, too, when it relaunched for 2.0 and it burnt me out very quickly. So this time? Going to take it slow, enjoy the quests, trying out new classes, and take my sweet time with everything.

If you're trying to find out who is and is not an RPer, try targeting them, then right clicking their name and selecting "Examine." In the upper left corner there might be a word bubble. If you click it it'll have a little message. This is someone's "Search Info." A lot of RPers will mention that they're, well, an RPer in it. Not everyone, but a fair amount. A lot of folks will also put "Walk up RP welcome" or something similar in there. That usually means they're fair game to just strike up RP with. More, though, a great way to meet folks is to attend the events that are held. Check out the Calendar tab in the RPC navigation at the top of the page to see some of the regularly held events. Additionally, you can go into "Balmung Events" section and see what else is coming up. Going to events gives you a common thing to walk up to folks and start talking about.

It's probably done that way so you have some small choice to make, instead of just macroing it on into your offensive abilities, then macroing it off in your heals.

Heavensward Ilevel Requirements. Strange Design Choice?
Jonexe replied to Xavieraux Reinardes's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Honestly, at this point, there's nothing to be done about it. You either do the stuff and be ready now or you don't. If it honestly, truly concerns you then you should take your concern directly the FFXIV Official Forums (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forum.php) and tell the developers about it. Arguing the various points back and forth here does nothing, and doesn't get anyone to address any concerns you have. We're never going to have a consensus here, and even if we did it amounts to exactly zero.
