You can also use the Calendar and Balmung Events sections to find when the big RP events are going and join in. The HoD weekly tavern and Grindstone are an excellent place to find a wide variety of folks to start some walk-up RP with. Events also give you the benefit of something to talk about without feeling like you're "butting in" on someone else's RP.

These was an old one (http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=4578) of this; but I'll repost here too: Character Name: Zozomaru Roromaru (Balmung) Character Gender: Male Dunesfolk or Plainsfolk: Dunesfolk Time Zone: CST What Rp are you seeking? Whatever works for me. I don't typically do plot RP without 'stumbling' into it; but if you have an idea, it doesn't hurt to ask.

Heavensward Ilevel Requirements. Strange Design Choice?
Jonexe replied to Xavieraux Reinardes's topic in FFXIV Discussion
People seem to be missing the fact that they will very likely (and have already started) changing up the end game as it gets closer and closer to Heavensward. They've already added Echo to most of the MSQ stuff, and Steps was already nerfed. It's likely they'll nerf it more once 3.0 launches. People worried about item level are also missing the fact that there's dozens of ways they could correct these issues once the content is no longer 'current'. It could be as simple as adding various gear rewards to the post-50 MSQ rewards (since 'new' players will likely use that as part of leveling). They could modify the dungeons so they drop more than one item, and those items are level 90+ (like Snowcloak and others already do). They could do further nerfs and drop the item level. Somewhere along the line they're going to change things and hand out some gear; especially considering they said current 130+ gear is only going to last you to "around 55." If you're not ready for Heavensward at launch, don't buy it, and wait and see how they change things. Or you could actively work towards it now. If it's something you care about it's really not a difficult thing to do. On top of all the catch up mechanics in place, you have this wonderful forum here full of people who are willing to help knock out trials and dungeons if you but ask. -
Heavensward Ilevel Requirements. Strange Design Choice?
Jonexe replied to Xavieraux Reinardes's topic in FFXIV Discussion
It's an odd design choice, and not one I necessarily like... but... It doesn't take weeks to grind out getting through Steps of Faith. Personal story time: I resubbed three weeks ago. Most days I don't do any content and just RP. In that time I went from an ilvl 63 WHM to an ilvl105 WHM and cleared the main story content having not played since before 2.1. In total I probably put 6 hours towards the main story in each week. I finished up Steps of Faith at ilvl96 on Saturday. Gearing is pretty easy with a mix of dungeons, crafting, Soldiery Tomes, Labyrinth of the Ancients/Syrcus Tower runs. The last two there are exceptionally nice, since now you can run them endlessly while they're unlocked. Every run gives Soldiery and Poetic Tomes, as well as chances at gear. Additionally, each takes maybe 30~45 minutes since most people significantly out gear it and make it a breeze. The hardest part, I would say, is if you don't have a level 50 class yet. That's what is going to take the most amount of time. Once you get to 50 (especially if you already have must-have cross class skills) it amounts to just accomplishing a lot of quests; 90% of which are pretty easy "talk to this guy, that guy, that other guy, then come back" quests. The required trials are fairly easy all the way up to Steps of Faith, which was just recently nerfed (and might be again by the time Heavensward releases). Take 3 minutes while waiting in queue to watch a video for each trial and you very likely won't have a problem with any of them. Not everyone will get done quite as quickly as I did (roughly 18 hours), as I got pretty lucky on some drops in ST. Some will get through faster, some slower, etc. But! If you start now and put in an hour or two a day towards it, you can be ready for Heavensward before early access even begins. -
Here, something small and not so pretty for you! http://imgur.com/N4miCHG

The only thing that could really 'ruin' Zozo is if they made an announcement that it's physically impossible to know more than one form of magic. I never say that he's a WHM/BLM/otherwise; merely that he has extensively studies the base class forms. While some of his actual back story could be compromised by certain changes; he never directly comes out and tells people any of them. More, he becomes vague and skirts around the subject. Anything that ruins what I have developed for him I could pretty easily discard. Even if the above (only one kind of magic) was put out, I could pretty easily say he's studied the other forms, but can't actually perform them.

You and me both, Nako. Zozo's been in the learning game for for about the same amount of time.

1. Generally I would say pick the server that has your friends on it; but seeing as how you're new, I would spend some time at peak hours (roughly 4pm-12am central time from what I've noticed) and see what appeals to you more. On Balmung (where I play), the Quicksand (Ul'dah Adventurer's Guild) typically has a lot of RP around that time. 2. I believe you're referring to what is called the Glamour System in FFXIV. There's a quest you have to do to unlock it. You can find most of the information about it here: http://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Glamours

Having been to Tokyo, and several theme cafes, this is totally not as awesome as everyone thinks it's going to be. Most of them have a fee just to sit down in them, require you to order something even if you don't want to, and are quite expensive for what you get. The atmosphere is neat, much like the Gundam Cafe; but I doubt it's going to worth the money it takes to be there.

I like to think of it in more of the sense that you would the hero of a movie never getting truly hurt. The things thrown out at our characters would really freakin' hurt, especially as say... a mage or something. So I tend to look at the avoidable attacks as the same things an action hero avoids in the movies. The telegraph itself is there for gameplay purposes, sure... but if a giant is raising his club up above it's head... well it's likely going to swing down; so I'm going to avoid that if possible. Obviously anyone who RPs a character that's actually done the dungeons in some form or fashion is not going to be an average or common person; so I think it's okay to embellish a bit and say they dodged most of the enemy's attacks.

I use Corsair Vengeance 1400's . They're the most comfortable headset I've worn to date, very nice sounding 50mm drivers, a good microphone, and an excellent price point. I use analogs because I have an excellent sound card. If you don't/want virtual surround go with the 1500s, as they're USB. 2100s are wireless and obviously more expensive.

Not sure if people have seen this, but Yasumi Matsuno has a new Kickstarter project. For those who don't know, this is the man responsible for the Tactic Ogre series, Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, and Final Fantasy 12. He wants to develop a new FFT style game, and he's got a lot of big name folks who want to help him work on it. Here's the Kickstarter link. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/482445197/unsung-story-tale-of-the-guardians Edit: It looks like Akihiko Yoshida, the artist for the above named games and others, has also joined the team. He's also the lead artist for ARR.

Earlier there was an announcement that SE planned to improve the capacity for the Japanese Data Center. In a follow up announcement, they've mentioned that it was also intended to encompass NA/EU Data Center as well. Keep your hopes up! Maybe this will fix the server lock outs!

Click and hold the "General" tab and it'll let you move it around. Why the chat window does just fall under the rest of the UI stuff I'll never understand. I customized mine, but seeing as I can't get in the game at all... well... I'll display it when I can.

Anyone familiar with Networking? Modem/routers, etc
Jonexe replied to Niteshade_Rune's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
In addition to what's said, Cat6 is much more rigid and not really intended for common household usage. It's much more likely to break than Cat5 and more expensive to replace if it does so. -
I'd like Red Mage if it actually works like the intended purpose of a Red Mage and not just a caster with some special spells. I want a Black and White Magic user that the melee is an integral part of the class. Aside from that... BLU, THF, GEO.

In reference to my earlier post; my character would likely at least know of some of these shady things-- perhaps even having done jobs for some of them. Linky: Thaseus
-
As requested by Abai... Name: Thaseus Voltemand Race: Hyur Highlander Gender: Male Age: 27 Profession: Gambler/Odd-Job Taker Appearance: Height: 6'5" Weight: 255lbs Body: Muscled, but not ripped/built. Good muscle definition and tone. Hair: Dull black fading to a dark grey at the tips. Very shaggy and unkept; though it doesn't go down past his collar. He also has a scruffy, full beard; though it's kept close to the skin. Eyes: Vibrant Teal Skin: Very tanned Other stuff: He has a small scar on his right cheek. A large, dark green tattoo on the right side. Clothing: Workman's leathers; well worn but not tattered. Leather gloves that are fingerless, but were clearly not that way to begin with. Thick leather traveler's/soldier's boots. Belt with several pouches. Basically, here's a picture.

snip tldr; Increasing Egi size doesn't hurt anything, this is misleading and inaccurate. Making them the same size as a player character wold go a long way to making them look more impressive but wouldn't detriment players ability to work around them in a fight. I'd venture to say this is entirely subjective. I don't like a mass of large pets around me when I'm in melee, especially tanking. They add to the clutter, doubly so when positional mechanics come into play. This held true in WoW and other games as well, for me.

I completely agree with the feedback, sad about the response. It would have been a good place to meet in the middle. I like the appearance, I was worried about it at first, but I think they're well designed, whilst I personally would have preferred it to work like it did in FFXI (and it didn't create any problems), I am not disappointed, I just think they could be a wee bit bigger. I'm not exactly sure why SE won't make them bigger, but as much as I would like them to be bigger, I don't think it'll spoil my enjoyment, but then I'm gonna be a Scholar, not a summoner. The funny thing is in FFXI I was harping on about how Scholar should get a pet, at least after seeing Schultz using the Crimson Grimoire as a pet, it could have been a reward for doing Survival of the Wisest. Ah well, a faery will suffice. The response Hvinire gave didn't really explain much, just that at one point the Egis were actually a little larger than they are now but the design team decided to make them smaller. On the plus side of things, changing the size of the Egis doesn't really require a lot of work, so I'm holding out hope that maybe they'll reconsider it post launch. As far as appearance goes, and the lore behind what they are, I think the Summons are pretty awesome. They look close enough to the original Primals they are based on while maintaining their own unique appearance, so I'm happy with things on that end. My biggest issue and the one thing I'll have a very hard time learning to live with is just that the most well known, iconic class in Final Fantasy (and I say this because EVERY game has Summons in it, and thus to some degree Summoners) uses Summons that are no bigger than the vanity pets we have. I still plan to main Arcanist/Summoner, so if they don't change it I'll learn to live with it eventually... I just don't have to like it! I'm okay with smaller summons, honestly. Nothing aggravates me more than having to see other people's stuff clogging up my screen simply "because." With some of the smaller dungeon hall ways, I could see large summons getting really annoying. It would be cool if they had some kind of... release mechanism or something. You use the small Egi to build up some kind of energy (or a long cooldown?); then use an ability to unleash a more powerful (bigger, more primal looking?) version of it for a limited time. Also, no way in hell Summoner is more iconic than White Mage, Black Mage, or Warrior/Knight. Summons didn't even exist until FFIII, unless you count the added (way later) content in FFII <<

The character I'm working on has had an ear toward the shadier side of things while growing up on the streets of Ul'dah. Anything's possible!

I bet the colors are related to which stance Carby is in.
