  1. BLM does require ARC to be leveled with THM so it could be possible to carry over some THM/BLM skills to an ARC, and PLD uses CNJ, so a mage taking up some sort of Armour wouldn't be so far fetched. You still wouldn't be able to summon carby in said Armour, but you could use the cross class skills to sort of mimic skills while in Armour.
  2. odd, I wonder wants up with that? Cause i got rid of mine like it was any other piece of trash. I didn't even think twice about it until I saw people saying that they couldn't ditch theirs. maybe a patch/update made it so you can't anymore and I just got lucky? I mean i did get mine the second the event started(yes I was awake at that hour and still playing, it made for a very very long night when that came up)
  3. There, There What you need is a good ACN at your side with a carby. The ACN can command Carby to blow the add away(literally) and step in to heal the healer while the healer keeps the tank alive. I always keep an eye on our healer and I'm generally the first one to try and grab any adds that run after them. (and if it's too crazy I can always summon topaz and have a carby that's real good at stealing hate.) P.S. A good ACN must always remember the pet bar and that they have control over who carby tries to kill and when carby uses their skills. also, if you keep emerald at the healers back you can throw the mob into the tank who can then grab the hate.
  4. you CAN discard them. I accidentally grab the wrong one at the start(just went down the list too fast clicking buy) and all I had to do was right click discard and it went poof.
  5. I actually haven't really had an issue with Durpy randoms, just the 30-65 min. wait time that que as a DPS guarantees you. I think i've had one or two tank/healer associated issues with randoms, but aside from that it's all good groups. (and by problems I mean tank thinks their god or healer isn't paying attention/DCs) Everyone should be aware of the time they'll spend in the queue as a dps is what I'm saying cause of other games. The majority of the players playing are dps and out populate the ones playing tank/healers after. It is to be expected which is where community kicks in you know? Like RPC.. Great community, wouldn't be hard asking for help on here right? I haven't had much issues with derpies either.. I deal with random assholes I get queued with on AK and Ifrit HM so much that I refuse to deal with randoms end-game now.. 2 weeks into the game and we have elitist pricks ruining people's fun and putting down tanks/healers learning. that's great for when you want to plan out your dungeon runs a day or two in advance(or if you are on during peak hours and have access to alot of people ready to do your dungeon.(and yes I've gotten lucky with getting help a couple times) But I shouldn't need to plan out my play week just to do a dungeon in a reasonable time. Some times I want to craft, sometimes I want to hop into RP, and sometimes I just get tired of doing other stuff and want to blast through some story, but it is serious immersion break for story when you hit the iron wall of the duty finder. You run through 1-2 hours of story and having fun doing the little solo missions and BAM! you now have to set aside 2-3 hours for a 35-45 min dungeon(60 if you kill everything). and the better part of those 2-3 hours isn't even doing the story that you want. I don't mind waiting, I don't mind finding a /sh party, and I love it when I can grab a LS/FC member(s) and running the dungeon. What I mind is spending more time in que for the dungeon than I spent(will spend) getting to (doing) the dungeon.
  6. Count me in for the Audience! this is certainly something that will be fun to watch. Good luck finding the cast you need.

  8. This, but the original barding you get doesn't look much different(pulled from the same site that had the quoted image) The Default Chocobo Leather barding. And, another note for future info regarding Chocobo info, FFXIV Forum Found this post with a ton of info about future Chocobo stuffs. (including all the currently possible Choco barding.) http://deathaga.webs.com/ggg.PNG[/img]
  9. Good info about level 50, gives me something to look forward to. And certainly a good point on the mentality. I had an amazing group today for Hauke manor, The healer talked to the tank, the tank talked to the healer, they both talked to the DPS and the DPS stayed on point and talked to the Healer and tank. It barely felt like a dungeon with all that teamwork going on. Also, I will be going SCH route, so if there are any healers out there that have tips for me, or tanks I might be healing in the future that have requests, please just speak up. I don't mind critique(so long as it is constructive) it builds to better playing in the future when done right. I have done some off healing(or replacement healing in some instances as ACN) but I'm sure I still have plenty to learn as the main healer.
  10. According to a recent Yoshida interview, they plan on allowing ACN to queue as a healer or DPS in the near future to help alleviate the pain -- but that the ultimate bottleneck is a lack of tanks. Also, you can always try to grab people out of a certain society of mages. Don't buy it. I can get a tank in the que alot more often than a healer. it seams every time I'm waiting its for a healer. maybe there are less tanks but they just do alot more, so it seems like there are more. I dunno. I just know I've never had a problem finding a tank, a healer? forget about it. But ACN being able to que as both will be nice. Edit: What Naunet said. As an ACN, I should never need to use topaz in a dungeon, unless we are getting overwhelmed by 6 mobs at once, then maybe off tank. But generally an ACN should stick to emerald in dungeons, even some of the best tanks have trouble stealing a mob from topaz, so it makes it impossible for a new tank to learn the role if topaz is out stealing the work from them.
  11. Playing an ACN and can't wait to get SCH just so I can speed up my que times. Right now, I have determined that I am guaranteed a 30 min. wait just to get the initial group selection screen that is just looking for a healer. The problem we face: below level 30: 2 tank, 1 healer, 5 DPS Above Level 30: 2tank, 2 healer, 5 DPS the overwhelming number of DPS classes means that we are going to sit and wait no matter what they do to the duty finder. Unless they can get more people to play healer/tank and get those people to spread out evenly over those roles wait times will never go down. what we need: 1 new tank class&job 2new healing class&1job. No new DPS until the first two have been done.
  12. just got 90K.O. ed and NA/EU serve list is invisible again. I thought we were past this...
  13. I finally managed to figure out a good way to isolate the names of the spam deamons and black list them, but hadn't gotten to that when I found Abai. I do have a separate window for LS/FC chat. I guess everyone should just move to yell channel and everyone agree to block /sh as a whole. at least until the deamons are exorcised.
  14. I spotted an Abai in game today! I would have talked, but the spam deamons of Ul'dah made my text log unreadable. but I can say this, she was in a bikini!
  15. Rogier is known to hold this sentiment: "the power of the Arcanum will protect me more than any armour could". If you couldn't guess he is a mage through and through.
  16. this, plus if you don't take on a Job you won't have people picking you for dungeons and such when end game stuff hits. I've seen this problem really noticeable with Tanks after level 30, they just can't hold the enemies attention for the people with jobs for some reason. I know some people have even dropped out of parties when they saw the tank was a class and not a job. They could release an extra job for current classes, and archer could include anything from ranger, to sniper. so for the moment if you want a bow dungeons will need to be done as a bard after you hit level 30. unless you have another job you want to play. by the way, you might want to select your characters battle style( for endgame dungeons at least) based on desired job, not so much class. you could still RP all sorts of combinations for classes and such to make your own bit of fun until they release the job you want.
  17. I suppose I could take the robes a little more, if they didn't fall short of covering the ankles. They just look weird with the little bit of pants leg and shoe showing. maybe that's what really bugs me. a robe should cover the whole body(I really like the ones that look like you might trip over them for mages)
  18. Problem is, we all dress like women. *Pirouettes away* I mean, my main RP outfit right now is spandex tights. LOOK I LIKE THEM OKAY. Yea, it's hard to make a cool looking MALE caster when the only difference between their gear and a female gear is a flatter chest(which really has nothing to do with the gear itself). Yes, occasionally there are some breeches instead of tights, but when you look next to you and see a lady caster using the exact same gear(especially when the boots make them look more like Capri's occasionally) it's had to feel like your playing a male character.I understand Robes are very unisex to start with, but come on do a little something to make variety. I personally like the robes(would like cowles, but I hate that I can't ditch the hood, ever) though I would like some variations in the robes. The leather looking shoulder pads on the robes are really ugly personally. I understand the I look poor lower level stuff, but getting some decent variation in the robe styles would be nice. A nice simple robe without the odd shoulder pads would even make me happy, you know, something more Vivi esque.

  20. See, the issue I'm having is that aether is described as being energy, AND matter, AND all living things are entirely made out of the stuff. Energy and matter, eh it's a stretch, but it could be perceived as fuel (it wouldn't BE energy, it would just contain it), and living things need fuel to survive, so that's cool too. But, the fact that all living things, and only living things, are made, 100%, out of the stuff, I just can't get past. That would mean that the only supplements you'd need are aetheric supplements. Why would blood be red if it has no iron? Would we still salt our food if we didn't need sodium? Could we even get drunk? Do we even need to drink (water)? If I take an ether potion, am I drinking, without a doubt, someone's (or many people's) decomposed body? Hell, how does one make leather gear when there are no chemicals to react to the tanning process? I don't see how the cultures in the game can be so similar to ours with such drastically different laws of nature. >.< For the "why is blood red" question, think of aether as some sort of special electron, or water, or energy in its purest form. While it can change simple matter from a collection of Iron, water etc. into a functioning living being, it does not put the elements into their body or"form" it simply animates them. This Aether is what grants living beings the difference in their existence between them and a rock(although there is mention in Arcanist lore that could go so far as to say certain "rocks" or even everything you can see/feel/touch is made of Aether in some respect.[more later]) For the difference you could look at the infamous Stone monster that you have to fight. You will notice that[note 2] it is an infusion of magic(Aether) that gives it it's life. in regards to drinking a dead person as an Ether potion, I wouldn't be too worried about it, unless you want to think about how much human/animal waste you are consuming every time you take a drink of water(yes it takes time for such waste to decompose, but point is still there. have fun with your water now!=P) Now back to the arcanist lore and how everything is made of Aether. According to the description of an Arcanist they summon carbuncle by tapping into the "Aether of the gem" from which it is summoned. This tells me that either certain gems have their own latent Aetheric power, or everything is made of Aether and it is simply the amount of Aether infused into something that grants it "sentient life" or makes it just another rock.[note 2 answered here] ok i'll stop here before I get any longer winded. sorry I don't have a TL;DR, just read if you want to know. P.S. also, what Dieuvont said Just something I looked up, but could be a good bit of reading for similar FF ideas of 14's Aether. "Mist is but one of the manifestations of magic energy throughout the series, and can be compared to the power of elemental crystals in early Final Fantasy games, Lifestream in Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, pyreflies in Final Fantasy X and crystal energy in Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy series. " FF wiki
  21. I get the feeling that if such a thing did occur, Rogier would likely spend the weeks/months(that's real time not in game time) hold up in his lab(aka house) working on some sort of cure. Though samples and the like would have to be taken by others and delivered in secure packaging, left on the porch. Money would be delivered in a similar fashion. Basically he would cut himself off from chance of infection, but still try to learn (profit?) from it. So I guess it would greatly limit RP potential for him, but at the same time it could be an interesting event if done over a brief enough time(and of course well enough after everyone has settled in.)
  22. When I think of how the Aether works in 14 I tend to think along the lines of FFVII Lifestream Everything is "made of it" but the physical body/elements are still tangible items, unless it is returned to the lifestream. This even works with Nahv'ir's quote. Think of how cloud goes through the lifestream (but since the soul isn't immersed in the stream it doesn't get overwhelmed and lost.
  23. It's funny you mention that, because...
