My main is actually over on Jenova. I don't RP on that character but I have a couple RPers in my FC and know a bit about the RP scene there. Wanderer's Way or RPway is the main RP FC that comes to mind so I'd recommend looking them up. A couple years ago there was also this one linkshell that was like the linkshell for anyone who RPed on Jenova. I can't say I've heard/seen mention of it in awhile though so no clue whether or not that's still a thing. I do have a character on Balmung I RP with and one on Mateus that I'm debating using for RP. I'm always up for Discord RP if you're interested.

High Steel Scale Mail of Fending dyed, I'm assuming, Dalamud red. There's also the High Steel Scale Mail of Maiming for Dragoon and an undyable version, Berserker's Scale Mail, which drops from Sohr Khai + whatever dungeon was released at the same. My friend used to play Dark Knight and really wanted a cape. I promise my glamour knowledge isn't as ridiculous as it seems.

Welcome to the RPC! o/ I tend to do the same thing as I get a feel for the character. It can be bad for setting things up but I always feel more comfortable with my characters that way. If you need lore help Sounsyy has tons of resources over in Lore Discussion. Balmung is still locked down so Mateus has been named the new RP server. I've been messing around with a new alt over there and the RP scene is just as lively as Balmung. The low level areas are more active than Balmung's too so it'll feel populated if you're concerned about that sort of thing. The high level areas can feel a little lonely at times though.

I think I forgot to turn some options off/on in my haste to catch the sunlight but... Look at this handsome boy!

Garuda is awesome! I managed to grab that little figure that looks like the in-game Garuda minion at a con a year ago. It's so adorable! I do wish her fight was a little less stare at my thong (???) and a little more horrific screeching and evil laughing. That little laugh that Garuda-egi does is so good! Welcome to the forums! o/

New patch has only been out a couple days and I've already gotten all the items from the new Extreme fight for two characters. If anyone else can't run Monster Hunter World at a decent frame rate and is looking for RP to fill the time hit me up.

I have Tsubaki Yuzuka over on Balmung. Lately I've been messing around with another character on Mateus named Meara Bellveil. I'm not 100% sure I'm going to RP that one and if I do I'll probably change her name. If people are interested in her maybe I will though? I bounce between characters a lot so I guess I can try to leave my game running one day so you have the chance.

Dzemael Darkhold is the most bipolar dungeon in this game. Before the first boss you can pull as much as you want, stand in the purple light, and take little damage. It's a tank's dream. After the first boss the dungeon starts throwing ranged enemies at you so even though you could probably handle tanking more it's not worth it because you can't group them up properly for aoe. After the second boss you get to those frogs... You could pull a couple packs over there but if people get hit by the frog aoe or run off the edge themselves you're wiping for sure. It's not worth the risk when the odds are pretty high you have someone new. The only reason those frogs don't have a reputation as newbie killers is because Aurum Vale is right after and it's 10x worse.

This look is sooo good! And my skills with lighting are sooo bad!

I'm on at some pretty wacky times though I'm not sure they line up with yours? I've raided with someone from New Zealand so it's possible. I should mention I've never RPed in game though. Partly because of the times partly because I type pretty slowly.

I can't really say too much about FCs as I haven't really been in any RP FCs. I can say that FCs on Balmung have been super desperate for new members. The server is currently locked to new characters so if you're looking for an FC I guarantee there'll be people that want you. I unfortunately can't say if they'll have the level of activity you're looking for. RP on Balmung has actually started moving away from open world and more into housing, linkshells, and FCs so for all I know that could be where all the activity is right now. Speaking of activity the game itself is kind of in a lull right now. We're waiting on a new patch in a week so there's plenty of people taking a break just waiting for that to come out. There's also a sizable number of people who have temporarily stopped playing FFXIV so they can play Monster Hunter World and the new World of Warcraft expansion. Things look kinda empty at times but like I said earlier maybe they're all just hanging out in FCs and the like.

Is that ye olde 1.0? I can't help thinking that dagger is just there to ruin your picture. It's like it's photobombing you while you're trying to be badass. Totally going the Ishgardian knight route over the Paladin/Sultansworn but like... Me and Jenlyns over here are making this look goooood! (Or at least he would be if he wasn't crossing his arms with those bulky gauntlets on...) And the way the white armor just pops against the dark stonework over in Ishgard... But then again maybe I'm just a sucker for how heroic this look is.

Some friends convinced to make a character on Mateus so we could goof around one day. I resisted for a bit because I knew what it would lead to but it got boring sitting there while they ran around over there. As expected, my imagination began creating an actual character and I had to level it until I got the ability to glamour. And then I kept leveling because I could make the glamour better and because it was fun to run around as something different... Doubt I'll end up doing anything with her but I have a weakness for awesome, armored ladies.

I never said it was. 'Aggressive' was 100% intended to mean they're violent but I probably missed some commas and didn't relay that properly. And this was the big thing it showed us. Back in HW the Dotharl characters were the ones that were always looking for 'Dark' and 'Mature' RP. They'd pick fights in the Quicksand and Pearl Lane constantly. During these these times, if you wanted to find the edgiest character in the bar you looked for a Xaela Dark Knight and 9 times out of 10 he was a Dotharl. These days? You still see them pick fights regularly but the characters tend to be much more thought out. They're often confident and/or arrogant because now, it's not just a case of not fearing death, players know these character believe they'll just be reborn if they die. They have backgrounds involving their tribal roots. And while it's still common to find those edgy Xaela Dark Knights, there's a lot more interesting and varied Xaela characters now. But really this is getting off topic. Going back to my original point I was merely saying that RL based information is relevant until SE comes along and details things. A Hingan samurai instructor killed by ninjas sounds believable enough to me and you just have to hope SE doesn't come along and contradict you. Considering how often they like to make the Warrior of Light one of the few people in Eorzea/the world allowed to be a certain job I'd say the odds are in your favor.

That's the thing with the lore in this game. A lot of it is extremely vague I assume so they can detail it in ways fitting to the story later. For example, people interpreted Dotharl as bloodthirsty murderhobos then Stormblood actually explored them and we learned they were really aggressive reincarnation fanatics. What player would have made that leap in logic? So when we aren't given enough information we're left to fill in the details ourselves and RL is the safest and easiest way to do that.

Months after creating this thread, something said the other day made me realize my title may be a little misleading. Hopefully, this is a little clearer.

I won't deny having similar thoughts about both angles. "This person with a female character is approaching me. If we end up RPing a lot are they going to want to turn it into a relationship?" and "If I approach this female character are they going to think I'm interested in romance down the line?" The only reason I'll both to list my character sexuality is to hopefully avoid awkward situations down the line. I 100% understand and empathize with the problem. I am on Balmung but unfortunately my availability for in-game RP is extremely limited and unpredictable. x.x

Let's be real, for most race/gender combos there's 1-2 faces that are considered the attractive options. With Roes though I'm pretty sure they all have unconventional features like flatish noses and such. That's part of the fun with them. What weirdly specific thing was that person expecting? I knew what I what I was getting into when I made a female Au Ra so I actually tried to make her sort of odd looking. The goal was to make people do a double take, think she's kinda weird looking at first before they get used to it. Maybe they find her attractive after that or maybe she actually is their type. I didn't want to attract the kind of RPers that only look to hookup with cute characters but I had to be able to stare at my character for hours too. I stopped being a recluse today and went to Kugane to do my AST quests where I got a whisper from someone saying they liked my look. I was just wearing dungeon gear, a full matching set and one thematic to the area, but still it was nothing special. I admittedly love that set myself but I think that recolor is terrible for my character's coloration. I genuinely wonder if someone would go out of their way to send a whisper over a leveling dungeon set for a male character or "unattractive" race but who knows.

It's mostly just more explaining than in game RP. A couple paragraphs vs a couple sentences. I'd post examples but I'm the kind of person who gets so self conscious about my own writing that I trash it. Hit me up here or on Discord.

Along with most of the other posts in the thread, both of the points here hit the nail pretty hard on the head. For example, I personally struggle too much trying to find people willing to RP over Discord, etc. with my character to even care about romance. I do too many scheduled things to sit down and RP in game for several hours unless it's planned well in advanced so that's the problem I've always focused on. The handful of characters my character has interacted with have strangely all been male though not all of them straight. So even though nobody has shown any romantic interest in my character, I can strangely say that one of the problems I personally have is that no female characters want to be friends with my straight female character.

Well I've found my time open enough to mindlessly dog farm so maybe it's time to bump this again.

The Warrior of Light has more than a single line of dialogue every thirty minutes. Immersion ruined.

I completely forgot about that thing! I would think it's too small to be a turkey. Not gonna lie, I regularly forget that the New World exists. I feel like the only time it gets mentioned is in relation to the Mamool Ja. That'd probably be a great way to write in animals you can't find an Eorzean (or even Othardian) equivalent to.
