I'll have to keep an eye on this thread because I've been wondering this myself lately. I had one for a linkshell but it appears to have totally died. My friends have actually been around to do content on a different server so I'd love if I could get some Discord RP while I'm trying to level stuff over there.

it's a final fantasy game summons have always been a thing Of course summons have always been a thing but that instance of it is inconsistent with how it's been handled previously in this game. Which is to say it's not: A. Summoned through tons of prayers and crystals and hangs around draining aether from the land. or B. A little Egi summoned by a summoner.

If I remember correctly it was the Company of Heroes luring him into a cove or something so they could fight him that he wouldn't fall for again. The Mistbeard thing was him tying two boats together to haul in his plunder and we borrowed that idea to haul a bunch of corrupted crystals into the ocean to fight him. But really this was the reason I commented because in Stormblood... Contrast this to after we beat Ifrit where I'm pretty sure an NPC tell us that all the people who got tempered will have to be put down because there's no cure for it. There's also the little Kobold in 3.4 who was suspected to be irreversibly tempered when he didn't talk. There really might be some inconsistency but I can't be sure.

Well I got bored and taking screenshots with primals sounded fun. Hope it's okay to necro a month old thread. Tsubaki's absolutely fascinated with stories of Leviathan. She simply cannot fathom how people have defeated it! It was also the closest thing to some stories her parents told her from their homeland...until Shinryu showed up that is. Tsubaki also really likes the idea of hugging a big Moogle... And have you seen how cute those Wind-up Garudas are?! (This one's a lot messier because I tried to get it to look like they were blowing each other kisses.) So per the rules of the thread I, uh... I dare someone to hop on a porter and get a picture of a place you (or your character) loves as you ride by.

Roleplayer Uncertainty/Insecurity Theater
Mermaid replied to Warren Castille's topic in Character Workshop
I honestly prefer that over radio silence and then finding out later I triggered someone or they were unhappy with a scene. ...There's a time and place for it, but I think a lighthearted OOC conversation can help keep a scene going sometimes. Especially if the IC motivations are still being worked on. Or if there are potential IC issues that could arise that'd be easily solved with a simple "what?! I need some clarification." This please! While it hasn't happened in FFXIV as I simply haven't done enough I have had this problem elsewhere. Was roleplaying with someone and they quickly got bored of it. Later admitted they wanted to incorporate some mature thing I won't go into. After talking to me a bit and seeing my character they apparently thought I wouldn't be okay with it.* Truth was it wasn't something that bothered me and I didn't care so long as my character was not harmed. * I apparently seem SUPER innocent/conservative/whatever to some people. To give an example, going through high school people would think I didn't swear and then were shocked when I finally had a reason to. I'll admit there's some truth to it but come on people I'm not some delicate flower! -
Tsubaki Yuzuka smells like... soap and lust. Soap? Sure. Lust? Uh...what? She's way too naive on that front. :dazed:

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Mermaid replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Oh, I'm not saying I'm innocent. I screwed up and I could've been paying more attention. When I say auto pilot though I don't mean I was doing something like "see thing, attack thing" without waiting for the tank. The whole mishap didn't even happen until the tank was at least halfway to the boss. Honestly, I don't know if it was the crown that made them feel like they could police people or the fact that they were the healer. I'm more inclined to believe it was the latter and at the very least their seniority helped develop this mentality. All that aside anyone want to hear another fun story about healers thinking they can police people? This one's shorter and second hand. Boyfriend queues up for mentor roulette, as a tank, while I can't play with him. Gets dropped into an in progress party. Either asks or is informed why the last tank left. Apparently, the tank either didn't wait for Protect or ran out of range for it so the healer let the tank die. The tank quit after that. I know from experience that that's annoying (I have even sassed my boyfriend for doing that) but you're really going to drop your righteous healer judgement over a single friggin' Protect? -
The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Mermaid replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I genuinely never thought I'd post in here. I rarely have things happen that bother me enough to rant about them in a public forum. I'm one of those quiet people who keeps to themselves and avoids conflict. Heck, I'm terrible at dealing with it and avoid it when I can. Today I felt something I think I've only heard described. I can't really think of any other time I've felt it outside of being sick. You ever heard someone say they got so mad/upset/embarrassed that their head got hot and "throbbed"? Yeah, that happened. Decided to do a Leveling roulette while chatting with a friend in voice chat. Get Haukke Manor. Tank announces they're new to tanking and lancer had a sprout and was watching the cutscene. Healer is sporting the Cloud outfit, an Anima weapon, and the "burger king crown". I'm a bard and also have a sprout but I'm in 130 gear and just haven't finished the 2.x stuff. Things go as expected. Tank loses aggro to me a lot. I just stand there DPSing stuff down. Nothing else I could really do unless I wanted to stop attacking to let the tank regain aggro but I'm admittedly not paying enough attention to know if they're even using enmity skills. Get to the first boss. Stand around with the group long enough for the healer to stoneskin everyone. As waiting a bit doesn't bother me it doesn't really dawn on me that the tank isn't just new they're also hesitant. I see the tank run in and I start running in. As I'm on auto pilot I press a skill when I get to a certain distance as normally a tank would've pulled the boss with a Shield Lob or Flash or something. Naturally they hadn't so I had just screwed up, pulled the boss, and felt terrible. I stand there attacking the boss and waiting for the tank to pull it off me. Now at this point I have to say that I almost never type in combat. For that matter, I almost never talk in dungeons. I'm slow at typing and I can't both type and attack. If I ever unintentionally pull a boss I always apologize immediately after the fight ends. This time I didn't even get the chance. Healer says something like "This bard with either of you?" at least one of them says no so he says he's just going to let me die and does so. This is where I get that feeling I described at the beginning of my post. I don't know how to handle this situation. The whole thing was an accident that I had every intention of apologizing for after the fight and here this guy is calling me out for one early pull. So I get passive aggressive about how it was unintentional, lancer I think jumps in about how the tank said she was new but I pulled early, I retort something like I just pressed a button early and was going apologize or something like that, and eventually the group gets over it. I main healer. I've done that whole "let the early pulling douche die" thing. You don't do it for that one time the ranged attacker pulls. You do it when someone's charging ahead of the tank or someone is clearly casting a spell when the tank hasn't even gone in. People make mistakes ffs and you're not "holier than thou" just because you're the healer with the "burger king crown". /endrant -
other servers A Call to Roleplayers in Brynhilder!
Mermaid replied to HolyBladeSeraph's topic in Chronicled Connections
I have a character there I made to replay the story. She's got a lore accurate name and I could probably set her up to RP with. You'd have to be on kinda late to catch me though so you'd probably have better luck with LinkShells and the like. -
I'm actually in a similar situation with bizarre timing. During the peak hours, I tend either be playing in one of several D&D or Pathfinder games or playing games with friends with limited time schedules. The time I have to sit down and RP tends to be late at night. Unfortunately, that's late night PST. I'm always up for Discord/Skype RP though. Tsubaki's also a Gridanian adventurer with aspirations to see more of the world so it'd probably be pretty easy to run into her.

Ooh, I like the feet! I really wish SE would go the extra mile to redesign shoes for a few of the races. Then Miqo'te and Au Ra (and maybe even Viera in the future) could be a little more than "Hyur with animal parts glued on".
-
For Tsubaki it's a resounding yes. There would be the natural hesitation of "are Eorzea's enemies going to turn on me?" but it wouldn't deter her much. She's a tad naive but more importantly life is precious to her. Despite being a Raen she's not one of Yugiri's Doman refugees. She came to Eorzea with her family a decade ago when the Garleans started messing up Othard. (I admit my timeline may be off but when researching it that was all I found.) Any of her family that remained there and potentially died she'd been completely separated from for all that time. Yes, it hit her hard but probably not quite as hard as those who lived it. Then you have the fact that a year or two after coming to Eorzea she started sitting in Gridania's taverns listening to the stories of adventurers. She heard plenty of stories of adventurer's wanting revenge and even getting it. The best endings for those stories were when they stopped something that threatened others. When they didn't end like that, the victories served to make the person feel better but otherwise amounted to nothing for them. She doesn't want revenge on the Garleans or to murder them all she just wants them stopped before they do more damage and take more lives. Heck, if they just stopped she'd be fine with them living in their corner of the world and leaving everyone else alone. If temporarily working with them saved lives? You bet that's more important to her.

I've barely gotten to RP since joining Balmung due to my schedule being later than most but this is something I was also wondering about for my own character. Tsubaki learned the bow from her parents and studied music for several years. She realized she knew little of the world and decided to try being an adventurer in order to experience it. She plays the harp and sings though she's very shy/self conscious about her singing. She's also capable of playing the piano at an okay level but doesn't really get the chance to. I'm no good at writing my own material so I made it part of her character. Her being no good at writing her own material is one of her many motivations to adventure and find inspiration. If anyone convinces her to sing I plan on grabbing some poems (such as Shakespeare sonnets) or folk music (stuff like Danny Boy) to have her sing and would of course mention it was not her own work. Pieces on the harp or piano would most likely be classical music (Mozart, Beethovan, Bach, etc.).

Recently returned to Balmung, and I'd enjoy roleplaying again!
Mermaid replied to Adodak's topic in Chronicled Connections
Tsubaki's a bard who's rather different from yours. She's actually been studying music for years and is great at singing and playing the harp. Her shyness gets in the way and the fact she's no good at coming up with her own material kills her confidence in her skill. Unfortunately, I'm a late night RPer so if you're actually interested in Tsubaki it would probably have to happen over PMs or through Discord/Skype. -
I had a half baked idea for my main (who's on Jenova) that was similar to "monster scholar" but leaning more towards Arcanist/Scholar instead of Blue Mage. Would've been great to RP that with a blue mage/fellow "monster scholar". My RP alt Tsubaki is always thrilled to meet other musicians. She's fairly shy and quiet but get on the topic of music and suddenly she's struggling to keep herself from talking too much. She's also somewhat new to adventuring and often just picks up work for the Adventurer's Guilds or Twin Adders. If he's likely to hire adventurers through the guilds or through bulletins at taverns then she could easily pick up a job that way. Unfortunately, I'm hard to catch in game unless you're a late nighter. If you're actually interested in RPing with Tsubaki it'll likely have to be though PMs here or through Discord/Skype.

jenova A Taker of the Taken, Looking for Connections
Mermaid replied to ArdentAssailant's topic in Chronicled Connections
Well my main is on Jenova but I don't fully have a background for her... I know there's a couple sizeable RP linkshells around Jenova have you tried getting into them? I unfortunately can't speak for how lore accurate the members are or what kind of RP they have since, as I said, I haven't really set that character up to RP. There's also always the option of trying to find people willing to role playing through programs like Discord and Skype or through private messages on these forums. -
balmung befriend this boy it'll be a CATastrophe (please laugh)
Mermaid replied to Tsukinaga's topic in Chronicled Connections
Wow, he has the "wants to hear stories" thing like Tsubaki. The biggest difference is that instead of looking for direction in stories she's already found it least twice. That said I don't know if they'd even be able to have a conversation if they both wanted to the other to play storyteller. -
That's... basically how I'm seeing it. It's not your job to engage the wallflowers. Just because someone sits next to you at a bar does not mean you're obligated to RP with you. If he wanted to RP with you he should've emoted something, ANYTHING that might've hinted to that. Even if it's just... I dunno... * Broody McEdgelord's gaze flicked to his right as he noticed the Miqo'te sitting next to him. He huffed, still weary from the thousand Garleans he had slaughtered singlehandedly for the capture and murder of his third mother, and looked back at his drink. A drink as dark as his soul. SOMETHING. And even then you're under no obligation to engage him. So yeah. You're fine, don't worry about that guy. I understand the logic behind this post, but good lord emoting something to the effect of "glancing at so-and-so" as an intro in the manner you describe is one of the most awkward things I can experience as a player. Half the reason I made a character that sells junk to strangers is so I would never have to do that. The player's behavior in OP's post is unacceptable, to be clear. I just wonder if, to anyone else, an introduction of that nature is more repellent to RP than sitting in silence. Admittedly I'm new to the MMO roleplaying scene so I haven't encountered something like that personally. As someone with some roleplaying experience though I can try to put myself in the situation. On the one hand, "Broody McEdgelord" is trying to get you to do the interacting. He wants to be an antisocial character and force you to figure out how to interact with him. Upon realizing this I think plenty of people would be frustrated and feeling like they're being made to do all the work. On the other hand, it's still a step up from wallflower. Instead of standing around hoping (sometimes expecting) people will interact with him he's at least expressing a desire to roleplay with you. He's throwing out an admittedly poor excuse for interaction but at least the attempt is there. For me personally I'm not sure if I would dislike it or not. I am a shy person with little self confidence so I tend to avoid walk ups because "what if they don't like my character/roleplaying/etc". Broody McEdgelord is expressing the desire to roleplay with me but he's not giving me much to work with.

balmung looking for nomad rpers ♠ shroud ♠ keepers & more!
Mermaid replied to Parzival Baur's topic in Chronicled Connections
I honestly don't know, since I'm out around 9 PM Pacific. That being said, you're welcome to use the Discord link above and join the server at least! I have seen activity in Discord (the following morning) for after 10 PM Pacific, so you can ask around that time if anyone can invite you. I'm under the impression there's a few late night people. Wish I could give you a more solid answer on this. Still kinda figuring out Discord but I'll try to jump in there later today/tonight. -

Seeing this pop up in "Latest Threads" reminded me that Kasi tried to suggest this Linkshell to me. I had trouble catching them in game and eventually forgot about it. I really liked the idea of "let's camp out in a forest and RP instead of hanging out in a tavern all the time". Problem is my times are terrible. I tend to be on around 10 pm which isn't the worst until you realize it's Pacific... So I guess my question is is there a late night (or possibly early morning) crowd in this Linkshell? If so who could I contact around those times for an invite (or could they possibly keep an eye out for me)? If not thanks for taking the time to read this post. -
I agree that would be nice but I think the reason we can't is so bots can't mail us their advertisements. I still remember GW2...

An apartment to hang out/RP in. I don't even have enough gil for the base cost much less the whatever million it would take to get someone to give one up so that's waaays off. Also to actually get my butt RPing. I've slowly learned that the times I'm online to role play are worse than I thought.
