Mogoi Qestir Posted May 5, 2015 Share #26 Posted May 5, 2015 I do not think there's enough strength to perform an adequate facepalm on this thread... now, if we are to take this conversation seriously, check the spoiler for my opinion. Kissing is not necessarily a thing when it comes to species and showing terms of affection. That's a thing deemed normal by humans, or in this case, the Hyur and the like. They probably have other ways of showing their affections to their mates. Another thing, if they decide to kiss, they can. Those horns hold more than enough space for one of the opposing gender to fit their head there. And it is entirely plausible that the horns shown go with a corresponding set, thus another way on how they find mates. Maybe. That's all speculation. Another thing. Horns don't just shatter that easily, there's pain involved, but unless they're hitting steel [and I imagine Link to comment
ScaledWarrior Posted May 5, 2015 Share #27 Posted May 5, 2015 Er herm, you know what-- You know what will be cute-- Au ra couples touching foreheads affectionately. Yeup. I actually REALLY love that idea  Link to comment

Aduu Avagnar Posted May 5, 2015 Share #30 Posted May 5, 2015 clotheswise they probably just have shirts that button down the front... avoiding the issue of the horns all together. This might work for their racial clothing, but they can also wear all the same clothing every other race does, so that's a major consideration for them. Armor is less of a problem because, for the most part, you don't slip them over your head (aside from chain maille that is, which... wow, yeah, that cannot be pleasant for an Au Ra to put on). But imagine trying to put on any standard cotton shirt with those horns in the way. Bleh! What a pain. I think they would get any of their clothing tailor made to suit them, rather than simply try to slip it over their head. They'd likely see the neck hole and go 'nah mate, that aint fitting in there...' probably what the first female Au Ra thought as well *rimshot* Link to comment
Siha Posted May 5, 2015 Share #31 Posted May 5, 2015 Er herm, you know what-- You know what will be cute-- Au ra couples touching foreheads affectionately. Yeup. I actually REALLY love that idea  This is exactly what I was thinking they'd do to be honest. I'm a bit biased towards that show of affection though since my main does it as the highest sign of her affection already, but that's not the point! Au Ra face cuddles shall be had! Link to comment
Seriphyn Posted May 5, 2015 Share #32 Posted May 5, 2015 I don't think SE put that much thought into a race designed primarily to attract purchases of the expansion. However, knowing their attention to detail, you can count on it being brought up in NPC dialogue at some point. Link to comment
Blue Posted May 5, 2015 Share #33 Posted May 5, 2015 I guess, good for me for not planning to have either of my Au Ras kissing anyone? It's a fantasy universe, there will be ways to get around things that make no sense, as usual. Should I post that no one should use flying chococbos because their wings/body proportions would not enabled them to fly IRL? I don't think I should, I'll just not use a chocobo as a flying mount; no need to make the decision for the others too, you know? EDIT: To make a clearer example, if you were a person who hated lasagna, would you walk into a restaurant, approach a table where someone is eating lasagna, and tell them "THIS. This is disgusting food! How can you cope with eating that!?". I think you would not. 1 Link to comment

I actually REALLY love that idea  Figured out that what cats do when they press their foreheads against your hand or, well, anywhere I guess, is called bunting. (Against a wall is pressing. Thats bad. Take your cat to the vet.) So, I figured Au Ra bunting is in. I will be bunting. 1 Link to comment

Altitis Acquired Posted May 5, 2015 Share #36 Posted May 5, 2015 Having played Trolls in World of Warcraft and Castanic in TERA, it's nothing new to me to RP someone with horns or tusks in the way when being more intimate with someone. Here's a few solutions: - Interlocking. Imagine like with elks and deers with those large antlers, when they butt heads with eachother, they kinda interlock the antlers with one another. It's kinda the same with two Au Ra when kissing. It's not always truly correct or fitting, but it's a solution none the less. - Long tongues. Because of their foreign nature, and even somewhat demonic visage, something like the Au Ra having very long tongues would not be out of the question. I intend for my Au Ra to have one, and believe me, it is VERY useful. - Horn sheaths. Sheaths made out of leather or maybe a softer material which you can cover your horns with to make sure you won't poke a hole or scratch your partner when going down on him/her. Otherwise, be creative and have fun with it! ^^ 2 Link to comment
Steel Wolf Posted May 5, 2015 Share #37 Posted May 5, 2015 I had actually considered that in regard to the design of my Au Ra when I was piddling about with the benchmark, and I tended to lean towards the backwards-facing horn styles as a result. It not only gave me a sense of more freedom of movement, but also tended to "flow" more cleanly with most of the hairstyles that were offered. But then again, folks can be super-creative and come up with ways to adapt to "problems" such as showing affection without kissing, like... Er herm, you know what-- You know what will be cute-- Au ra couples touching foreheads affectionately. Yeup. ...which is probably the most clever workaround I think I've read. Honestly, it's only a problem if you make it a problem...and considering the OP's prior post history against the idea of the race, I suppose it's just another tick mark against the Au Ra even being a thing. And that's fine. Personal preference is personal. 1 Link to comment
Zhavi Posted May 5, 2015 Share #38 Posted May 5, 2015 Maybe their horns are sensitive when touching them together for some kinda crazy connection. Hell, maybe it's a better experience than kissing! WHO NEEDS KISSING ANYWAYS. Link to comment

Ember, darling, you can hug Au Ra, just do it gently. The only thing you shouldn't hug are cactuar. - Horn sheaths. Warren Castille Posted May 5, 2015 Share #43 Posted May 5, 2015 I am so proud that I helped swerve this topic onto the logistics of dragondemon dong-devouring in seconds flat. I'm more proud of you fine folks running with it, though. Link to comment
Wymsical Posted May 9, 2015 Share #44 Posted May 9, 2015 Somehow I suspect you guys are forgetting three of the four horn types for females point back, to the sides or just don't point forward at all. The fourth is the only one that might give a little issue but it's not that weirdly shaped. For males... faces one and four would probably have some issues, face three shouldn't have any and it's hard to tell with two. Still, pecks on the lips look possible with all of the male faces and at most, one and four might have to be a bit more careful with the hot and heavy mackin' on each other. Unless their partner likes having their head caught between the horns like a sexy pinball. Link to comment

Honestly, this thread has been moving along fine without any added cursing and negativity. Zyrsticue may not like Au Ra very much but he/she still managed to create a thread that was fun and speculative. No one's been negative. I haven't been a fan of their designs either but I have still been looking forward to having my character meet them in game and to see what kind of dynamic they bring to RP. Some of my friends are very excited for them and I am happy they get something new to attach to. On that list, it's probably the Dimorphism and Kawaii Desu that get to me. I just think it's an unfair and sexist representation for SE to make the men big and intimidating and the women small and kawaii. (and still, that is even okay because you can still enjoy something, even if you don't like the way it is portrayed!) You don't have to agree. You might really like the dimorphism and really like the contrast of fierce men with cute ladies who can probably still stab you anyway. I can expect that people will adamantly disagree with my opinions and that's fine. But I don't think you should call out my opinion as being 'petty' or 'lesser' than your own. It's just after all, an opinion and we've been having fun speculating in this thread. No one's knocking them. 2 Link to comment
Aoi Fukiku Posted May 10, 2015 Share #50 Posted May 10, 2015 I'm going to believe that since they hear with their horns they will be sensitive to touch. So simple touch could be like cupping one's cheek or give the sensation of liking or a simple kiss. Head nuzzling would go in to this as well as their horns have a huge chance to touch one another. I figure the horns touching would be hard romance and them being deeply in love. I also figure the intense size difference will allow females to slip in between the facial horns of the males without trouble though the males will obviously be stabbed with their own. So definitely going with the first one. 1 Link to comment
