Elezen Guys: Endangered Species

Granted I have only been on Balmung for 5 days and most likely haven't been around in game during the hours I work, I was beginning to think that there was a lack of Elezen guys compared to my original realm (Behemoth).

In fact, it became a bit of a favorite past time game between me and my small circle of friends to play Where's Waldo game, but with Elezen guys. On an average good day I can spot 3 in Ul'dah alone and 5~8 in Ishgard compared to the vast majority of guys being lightly dressed Miqo'te which number anywhere between 30~50 per city on average.

How does the resident Elezen players feel about their dwindling number of guys that seem to me like they're on a straight path to become the endangered species? Or am I simply not looking hard enough? Is there a specific map where they all hide inside a cave huddled together to avoid the eyes of Eorzea?

I thought that since the new expansion focuses on Ishigard that from a roleplaying realm's perspective there would be a large number of people roleplaying as Elezen but it's interesting to see that majority players seems to be playing as Miqo'te.

Just a reminder, this is not a hate thread against Miqo'te, there's nothing wrong with you for playing one.

You're looking in the wrong places, hon. They're all over the place. Just make giraffe noises, they'll come running.

So they're all staying afk in Nevereap staring at those Giraffe like creatures after the 2nd boss? It's not a huge wonder why they could not be found.

Use the magical cry of "hon hon hon, je suis un petit anana." They'll be there.

I think aside from the Miqote, I see Elezen the most. But that may be because my FC has a decent number of them. That was at least until the Au Ra...

Yeah, I can't really comment since when I'm running around our neighborhood in the Mist there's tons of the lanky bastards about, I think Au Ra are neck and neck (har har) in our... neck... of the woods lately, though.

Too many references to giraffe necks in one post. :dazed:

Hmm.... am I correct in believing that most guys and girls who dare to venture and create a male Elezen are instantly having second thoughts when they see the length of their character's necks? Is this the primary reason why they are on the endangered species list next to the Dodo Colony living outside Limsa?

I have several Elezen males and they're my favorite race by far. We know a lot about them..more than some races, which is great for character building. My biggest problem is that they just..they look like they have the dietary habits of a wild supermodel. I'd love to get sliders for the sole purpose of adding a *little* more structure to them. They don't have to look like Highlanders, but I keep being afraid some Dragoon is going to grab my Elezen instead of his lance one day by accident.

I tried to design an Elezen Male that I liked, when I was still filling my alt slots, and.... failed. Just failed. The Elezen Male aesthetic just has zero appeal for me. I know a lot of great roleplayers who make it work for them, but I can't do it.

But, I feel the same about male Lalafell (I've played Hobbits in LOTRO, but even Hobbits are more.. adult-looking... than Lalas), and male Miqo'te (Sorry, I just can't play a catboy. I can't do it).

I ended up making another Roegadyn, although the guy rarely sees play.

I don't consider them to be super rare. Simply idling within Ishgard lets me see a decent amount of them. Though I typically encounter many more Wildwood compared to Duskwight...though sometimes it's hard to tell which is which.

I like their lore and I don't find them unattractive but...I just can't bring myself to play one due to proportions of their neck. I also dislike how people claim that they're 'too skinny' when they have a pretty sturdy, athletic physique. Sure, the proportions are a little off but they're hardly skeletal. Their build easily aligns with that of many real world athletes and models - and I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't go up to them and claim that they're 'too skinny'.

Honestly it was a toss up, and if things with sour with my current character RP wise, I had a whole Elezen look and storyline setup, just a fantasia & name change away, still have it in case the plot goes south and the character dies (yay RP Character death that may actually occur!)

But it took HOURS finding the right set up, some of the faces and way things pan out, cause the elezen to look like they've never known sleep, or a healthy meal...(then again Au Ra male eyebrow ridges that look like they're ready to pop out and punch someone).

The neck was never a problem, just means he'd have to lean less to peek around corners, or pick the more succulent leaves off the higher branches

EDIT: That aside I think part of the problem is, really aside from Aymeric, Haurchefant and Stephanivien . . . Elezen males in the game seem to all be in a competition for the biggest jerk award <_< but that could just be my experiences and impressions along the MSQ.

The dwindling population and endangered status is due to the the carelessness shown by several Eorzeans as their multitude of ventures and adventures have lead to the recent destruction of the environment as well as injury of many Elezens in nature. Please, to save the Elezens, we just practice safe methods to preserve such elegant creatures. Also please watch where you are flying as well and try not to clip them with your airship wings. Thank you.

Hmm I'm curious who these Elezen are. You speak of a invisible race amongst the male Elezens for them to reach the summit of being the jerkiest jerk of them all but aside from the Holy See and his Knights, who else fit into this perilous quest to become the king jerk of alpha male of the Elezen men?

Amazing picture. I am now 100% certain that the neck is the primary reason why most people think twice about making Elezens.

I have two Elezen males...

there are...5 or 6 in my FC?

Something like that.

And I love the fact that they are all kinda asshats.

Aymeric, Haurchefant, and Estinien (#1 douchebag) are 3 of my 4 favorite characters in the game. Two of them are super awesome but man...I donno.

They're easy to RP. Tons of lore to go off of....

Everyone else's issue with them is their problem >>

It's funny that people are weirded out by neck elongation but are okay with..

  • Scales
  • Horns
  • Tails
  • Furry ears
  • No eyebrows

Oh well. Proud elf guy, here.

To go off of this....

They're also okay with little children looking adults having sex with each other...

BUT IT'S OKAY 'CAUSE THEY ARE POTATOES

The difference for me is that even way way back in FFXI, the Elves just have odd proportions. The neck is big part of it. But it's more than that. Their arms are too long, but that might be because their legs are too long as well. Then comes their stances and animations. They are just... well, this is all subjective. It's all my opinion. But I always felt that the stances and animations for Elezen males, especially how they run, are just a little too dainty for me to play one.

There is also something I dislike about the different faces they let you pick from. I'm not sure how to describe it exactly, but the only Elezen male in the entire game with a decent looking face is Aymeric. They looks so snooty and angry all the time, and that would be fine. There is just something I can't quite explain about their faces that I dislike. They have some awesome hair options though.

And thankfully I can just make a highlander male and use most of the Elezen hair I like on him instead, unlike back in 1.0 when Highlanders only had 4 types of hair, and one of them was just bald.
