What Would YOU Do With a Large Mansion?

It's been a while since I threw out a random thought-provoker, but this one came up from talk in the Novice Network, of all things. I wasn't sure if this would be best here or in FFXIV, but since it's just musing... I put it here.

If money was no object (and the housing market on Balmung not as nightmarish as it is) and you were able to obtain a Large personal mansion, what would you do with it? It's a huge space, so I figure you'd want to attack filling it with some sort of plan. This can be either what you as the player would do with it, or what your character would do with the plot - whichever you'd have more fun thinking on.

For me? With the advent of the doors and whatnot... if they bumped up the amount of things you could put in a manor I'd probably try and make an apartment complex. Divide up all the rooms in the middle and upper floors into apartments with furniture and whatnot and "rent" out the space to people. Even if you went with decent-sized rooms by splitting the upper floor ones just in half and turn the basement into a rec/fitness room... that's still six rooms you could furnish.

The issue then becomes the whole ward thing. Obviously you can't have enough wards to make each tenant one but... what if you made the wards the "superintendents?" So if one of the tenants wanted to change up their room or something (call in a work order, if you want it IC), one of the supers could show up and move stuff around for them.

... Of course, the easier route would probably just be making a Free Company and using a Free Company manor for that... but it's a fun thought. Could even keep the idea for the FC house and the non-Private "rooms" could still be spaces for rent.

That's my silly idea of what I'd do with one of those massive buildings. What would you do?

Nanagi would likely make into a giant library. Make it open to anyone seeing as how she wouldn't want an entire mansion to herself. Perhaps have some rooms completely dedicated to researchers, providing the materials that they would need. (Maps, globes, etc). Considering how many books she already has, it wouldn't be surprising for her to gather more just so she can do this. If she knew anyone that was a good cook, might even considering adding a small cafe to the library.

Kanako on the other hand? She would make it into her own dream market. Have a small room to have as a shared office with her sister, the main room for displaying what she has to offer, the basement used for hosting parties/events. She would use the mansion to promote the merchant queen she wants to be.

OOCly, I have no idea what I would do with it. Have a garden and offer it to people to use for events.

Assuming money is no object (I don't care how easy you think making gil is in this game, crafting is a bag of *expletive stream theta* in my opinion) and putting aside Steel's life being more used to a bedroll than a mansion?

I would turn my mansion in to a training center. Swordplay, sparring areas, books for aetherial research...and of course a large area dedicated to drinking and relaxing on the fluffiest of furnitures.

As for Cass, who is far more accustomed to this sort of thing...she would likely run a tea house or even a cigar lounge.

I would carry out my alt plan and the character would have a trading company ground floor, offices upper floor, and a public bathhouse basement. It would be an FC, probably, with apartment style residence; not every FC member would need to be an employee.

I'd buy the item limit in partitions and build a maze spanning the entire building, and ask people to navigate it in first person. And then I'd move the walls around while people were running through.

DO THIS.

SOMEBODY DO THIS OH MY JESUS PLEASE.

I tend to redecorate my large mansion every once in a while. Sometimes I sit down in there to craft. Usually I RP in there. If I go afk for long periods of time Threed puts a whole ton of paissa dolls all over the place. There used to be a tonberry shrine in the basement where they made sacrifices but I got rid of that. ICly Arvid does not own the mansion though.

I've seen something like this in the Goblet.

My characters would have different plans but in the end I'd try and fight my urges to give into the IC things like Kaiya's library or Alasarnil's storage space or whatever.

A giant jumping puzzle. I don't know how, but I'll find a way.

Assuming for SOME REASON it was able to be Mine and not passed to my FC (woes of knowing if you find a house in the right district, your FC needs it more than you do...) then I'd probably go about the cute idea I had for something Aghurlal would do if he ever got a place to call his own.

It's basically a pub-inn... as a sort-of-front for a soup kitchen-homeless shelter, and maybe a little bit of more shadowy sneakiness. Think like those takeaway places where you can low-key pay extra for your meal, and then if someone else comes in later who can't afford it, then oh hey, it's already paid for. If I was in a Small house (as I probably will be), then I'd have all of that upstairs, and my character's living space in the basement.

But if I had a mansion, then I could have a large restaurant and diner area in the central floor complete with reception and waiting areas; guest rooms aplenty upstairs, although I might run into item limit trouble decorating them; and living quarters for him, his husband, his retainers (who are honestly part of the extended family by that stage), and personal friend guest rooms in the basement.

Only problem is, with his current backstory, there's no possible way my character would come into enough money as to make this happen - let alone be able to maintain it while he builds a steady enough paying customer base to cover the charity side of things. It's already going to be a scramble figuring out how he could maintain a Small estate. I fear a little rewriting and retconning would have to be done. xD But it'd be worth it for the sake of doing something like this.
