Keeper of the Moon Keeper / Highlander Keeper / Midlander Keeper / Dunesfolk Lalafell Keeper / Plainsfolk Lalafell Keeper / Seeker of the Sun Keeper / Xaela Keeper / Raen Keeper / Hellsguard Keeper / Sea Wolf Keeper / Wildwood Keeper / Duskwight Keeper / Ishgardian Highlander Highlander / Midlander Highlander / Dunefolk ...etcetera, etcetera. The listings for this specific question would be longer than the rest of the test, and would likely only garner a tiny handful of replies to make it worthwhile. 1 Link to comment

Actually it could all be consolidated into a single option such as: Halfbreed: __________ Just like there was a similar option where you can select Other: _________ for primary class and Primary Source of Income. Kylin Posted April 26, 2016 Author Share #57 Posted April 26, 2016 Going to take a moment to address a few concerns brought up in public and/or private to go on record. Originally, I was just going to mostly ignore the concerns, because let's face it...you can NEVER please everyone and I've already been down these socio-political debates in the past (anyone old enough to remember the bloodbath that nearly happened when "pansexual" was left off the initial options?) Regarding alts: There have been multiple concerns that the lack of including alts will "skew the results." I strongly disagree and actually have the complete opposite view. The inclusion of alts is what would skew results. Not everyone has alts. Thus, someone with alts would essentially have more 'voting power' than someone without alts. On the other side of the spectrum, if someone with multiple alts (such as myself) has a character for every race, that effectively negates your vote since every race is selected. The lack of inclusion of alts in this census is, in SE's terms, working as intended. Should someone not have a character that they consider their "main," then they can select one at random or however they wish. There is, after all, nobody that's going to challenge them on which one their main is or isn't. Regarding profession options: There are a TON of possible IC professions that one can have. To put them all down would be near impossible. Nothing was purposely omitted. The survey went before a group of peers (mods and patrons) to review before being published and nothing was disputed aside from the desire to add more specific questions and a single option to one of the existing questions. Should a suitable option not be present, the other option exists solely for that purpose. I will be the poor sap that sifts through those fill in the blank responses to tally up and should something be written in enough, I will add it into its own subcategory in the final results. Regarding the lack of Ala Mhigo/Gyr Abania, Doma/Othard: This was actually a mistake and these options should have been included. I apologize for not including them. The original question/responses were pretty much copied over from the 2013 census, when these regions were virtually unknowns to us at the time and thus weren't included back then. Please select "other" for these options and we can hold a separate forum poll to figure out where the "others" actually hail from. Regarding other topics: --The final question was worded poorly, and I apologize for that. It was literally added last minute (just a mere 20 minutes prior to the poll going live in fact). --Halfbreeds are not included in this census for two reasons: To list every combo, as Warren stated, would make both the survey itself and the final numbers look absolutely atrocious. And simply adding a "halfbreed" option would have negated part of the reason behind this particular question: to find out what race is most actively played among RPers. --Finally, this census has two intended purposes. First is to help foster a sense of community to some degree within the RPC. This is being accomplished by the fact that people are taking genuine interest in what everyone else beyond their doormat is doing out there and the fact that people are actually excited/enthusiastic about something like this happening on the RPC. Second, this is meant to provide data to all RPers to see what's popular and what's not. Let's keep the socio-political stances on options and how things are phrased out of all this please . This is for fun and data collection, nothing else. Nobody is getting paid to do this, nobody is being oppressed, and so on so forth. This is all entirely optional, and should something not be up to someone's personal needs/wants, most questions can be skipped. Thanks again to all who have contributed. We're up to 140 responses now (over my personal goal)! 2 Link to comment
Valence Posted April 26, 2016 Share #58 Posted April 26, 2016 I already answered that in the end interpreted it as it was intended. The main point is that it wasn't just myself that took more than just a simple glance at the question to read it and interpret it differently. Pretty much. At first I thought answer 2) meant that you are not the WoL but are still part of the story of the WoL and affect it, and answer 3) is not acknowledging your own character part in the MSQ. Which is why I picked up 3. Now I see I got it totally wrong... Link to comment

It wasn't necessary but is highly welcome, and thoughtful to boot. Link to comment
Kylin Posted April 26, 2016 Author Share #60 Posted April 26, 2016 Another addendum: I am not able to modify poll responses. However, if you messed up for some reason or another due to misunderstanding something or whatever, feel free to PM me and I can delete your individual survey entirely and you can redo it. This is assuming you do not have the link to edit your response of course. Link to comment

Valence Posted April 26, 2016 Share #62 Posted April 26, 2016 Not a big deal over 140 answers... Will just have to put it back in my head where it's supposed to be and that's it... I also totally agree regarding your stance on alts. At best, it could be interesting to have a poll where it is asked if the voter has any alts and how many, but that's it... Otherwise it loses any meaning. For half-breeds though, I think it could actually be interesting to see how many of those there are around... Even if in a different question (is your character a halfbreed Y/N?). Link to comment

LiadansWhisper Posted April 26, 2016 Share #64 Posted April 26, 2016 The only thing that gave me pause is that you linked classes to Jobs, and in some cases, you're going to have people that fit one but not the other. Grouping Conjurers and White Mages together doesn't make a lot of sense when there are (or should be) almost no White Mages. Same with Thumaturges and Black Mages. The results are going to make it appear that we have White and Black Mages coming out of our ears, when in fact, they're pretty uncommon (most people are going to be choosing those categories to show that their character is a Conjurer or Thaumaturge). Lots of people may play an Arcanist, but have nothing to do with Summoner or Scholar. There's nothing that says that either Summoner or Scholar requires Arcanist as a background (as the class didn't exist when those two disciplines were formed), so there are people out there who RP as Scholars, for instance, with no background whatsoever in Arcanomancy. I just feel like the class/job breakdown is going to skew the results and give inaccurate information. Link to comment

I also totally agree regarding your stance on alts. At best, it could be interesting to have a poll where it is asked if the voter has any alts and how many, but that's it... Otherwise it loses any meaning. I mean, basically this?? I, at least, wasn't trying to suggest at all that alts should be weighted the same as mains (as all responses re: alts seem to infer), because the poll is mostly trying to estimate what you'll see out in the world any given day you log in, based on which character each person plays the most, yeah? I understand that. But just something to acknowledge alts at all would have been be nice, especially for people who have a hard time deciding which character is their 'main', or if their 'main' shuffles around a lot, because I know a couple people who sort of binge-RP a character for months at a time before switching to another one once something inspires them to do something with a different character. I understand that'd add a lot of length and complexity to the poll and that's why it's not there... I'm just putting it out there anyway. Feedback, you know? Maybe something to consider in the future, if anything. Link to comment
Kellach Woods Posted April 27, 2016 Share #66 Posted April 27, 2016 If someone else did it, you click the second one. Second one explicitly says: Only the overall main events impact my character (Calamity, seasonal events, world events, etc) Whereas what we're saying is whatever happens in questlines no matter how minor has happened. That option isn't very well covered by that statement. I mean, as far as I'm concerned, Ultros is/was a receptionist for the coliseum and Typhon is indeed asked to sneeze like a mofo in the Gold Saucer. However, that's things that you could reasonably dismiss as not-main events. Link to comment
ArmachiA Posted April 27, 2016 Share #67 Posted April 27, 2016 I did not read the last one very well at all and checked the "Lol what's lore?" option by mistake since I thought it meant my character has no bearing on the main story not the main story has no bearing on my character T_T, I meant the second one. Ah well. Link to comment

Gabineaux Posted April 27, 2016 Share #71 Posted April 27, 2016 Can't you edit your response to the census? Like I think at the end of it when I did it there was like a.. change response thing. Let me look again real quick. Edit: nooope it wants me to fill out another one MMMMM mmm. Link to comment
Unnamed Mercenary Posted April 27, 2016 Share #72 Posted April 27, 2016 For modifications, you'll want to send Kylin a PM like he mentioned. If there're a bunch of PMs, then the staff might start handling it differently based on load. Link to comment
K'nahli Posted April 27, 2016 Share #73 Posted April 27, 2016 Posted ~ Will share it with other people. Edit: Assuming someone actively RPs more than one character, or engaged in more RP on a character they, in spite of which, would not consider their RP main, would it be permitted to create a second listing to involve such an alt, or would that still be unwanted? Despite having seven characters, this is not the case for me since I am hardly even active on my main - but I can think of at least a couple of people that I have recommended this poll to that might feel that way. One in fact has her main as a hyur, but her alt is arguably the most active in the RP scene and is a member of the same tribe as my character. Link to comment
Jana Posted April 27, 2016 Share #74 Posted April 27, 2016 Someone whose PvE main is different from their RP main should probably just answer for the character they RP as the most. These are meant to be metrics for the forums, not all of Balmung, so answering for a character they don't RP much with skews things away. Link to comment
Kylin Posted April 29, 2016 Author Share #75 Posted April 29, 2016 The responses have slowed to a crawl in the last 24 hours. I'm considering bumping the deadline up to Wednesday the 4th as a result. Thanks to the over 200 RPers who have voted so far though! Link to comment
