I jumped to Mateus just like I said I would. Shoot my whole FC transferred actually. We love the lack of que and the server is populated to where hunts and fates still get done and you see enough people in random areas to let you know there is a player base. Granted same server group so there was still duty finder issues and such but the game had enough to do outside of the DF.

I've actually included the little bombling in my character's rp for some time. With the backstory on it being a forge helper to Lori's father that followed her when she ran off from home. I have included a few other minions from time to time, some creatures that were just in passing while others have been happy accidents or gifts (gifts that require feeding.. on a tight gil budget). I know personally I have plans for one of the baby wyverns or maybe the zu hatchling in burdening my character with a long term pet that grows up. I use them similarly as I would my chocobo. I just hope none of them get as developed story wise as that dumb over-sized chicken..

Not sure if it was mentioned and I don't have time to read through all the posts. It also can depend on the area said character is from. Like if they hail from ishgard they may take offense to something different than if the character hailed from Limsa or Uld. I can't think of any examples from quests at the moment but I know there was a fair bit of them. Some areas of course had them more out in the open per say than others. Like saying that a ishgardian is related or in relations to a dragon was more or less fighting words as far as I became aware in the story. I do remember the lancer quest line it ended or near the end dealt with a duskwight that was pretty stereotypical of what I guess most expect from the duskies? I don't remember the details to great length as it's been a few years when I last completed the quest line...I do remember the npc bringing up something about people would have pointed the finger at him regardless or something like that..long story short and my lack of details here... because he was a duskie he would have been blamed for whatever action had taken place.

If SE was to designate an RP server, would you move?
Rosekitten replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
Wasn't it already stated they would be refunding or allowing housing moves or something similar? It was worded a bit oddly for my tastes but .. it doesn't really effect me either with not having a house an all... ^^; Most that I have heard that were willing or already have moved from Balmung moved to be allowed the chance to finally have player housing. If SE is allowing some sort of house refund or a cert to pick up a new house on the other server.. makes me wonder what exactly will happen in the long run of things. What if someone jumps server (either a low pop or whatever server gets voted in as rp server hub whatever) and finds out they still can't get housing due to a large amount of player transfers with a housing voucher? I don't see SE assigning a rp server any time soon if ever but till we get more information as to what exactly is going to happen at the launch or closer to the launch there isn't much to do but speculate. -
If SE was to designate an RP server, would you move?
Rosekitten replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
I'm still on the side where I don't care what server is being appointed (by SE or the community) I'm willing to pack up and move. I've had a good load of fun on Balmung but given the type of character that I play I think building a community foundation would be a better place for her. Also anyone I had ties to in game have long up and left so I'm one of the few I guess with no real ties holding me back to stay on Balmung. Still standing by what I sad in other threads, so long as the secondary server/world is supported by the community and isn't shunned out like a lost puppy with mange.. things will work out just fine. With time and effort everything grows. So more back on topic.. would I move? Heck yeah. The only bonus I can think of is if the transfer is free. <3 Also to note on the push for an official RP server... What if the population is too large for a single server? It would be the same issue in that the server would become locked and the community would yet still have to divide. Also I have never seen anything wrong with multiple rp communities in a game.. Other mmos have multiple rp servers and most of those communities do just fine. Each server having it's own timeline, events and what not. Sure some are larger than others but nothing will be perfect. -
Tossing my vote in for Maeteus. I was already planning to transfer there when the expansion hits so free or not my choice isn't really changed. Odds are in favor I'll be getting things planned out and events set up to help the community over there. I've been trying to keep in touch with the various free companies or LS' during my out of game time as well. (Though I have slacked on that a bit in recent months due to personal reasons). Personally I'm all for whatever server gets the end votes to be deemed the alternative NA rp server. ^^ So long as the rp community as a whole supports and tries to aid in the process or idea of it.

discussion Alternate RP server (Updated 5/18/17)
Rosekitten replied to Mercer's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Personally I had already planned to switch my character to Mateus. But if it's being voted for another rp server count my lot into the mix. The little time I've had on the server to meet folks and just the general chatter and being kept informed on the site has been amazing. ^^ They have a nice community there and it'd be nice to see it grow a bit. I just hope there isn't a sudden flood.. Off topic question.. anyone have an idea of what servers would be free transfer? That would help if it happened to be either of the serves listed here. -
I actually did this some time ago for her wiki.. plus I think her father has been used before as a ongoing npc.. haha.

The timeline is a bit tricky. I think the above links are about as clear as you can get it. Also kind of a topic I've noticed most skit over even though almost all of the player characters would have been well old enough to have lived through it or at least heard of it. Names are what you want to make of them, even more so with adoption. If you really feel creative maybe have her real name documented somewhere for later use. Could be a good plot line, even for a mini one, to dig up her original home and past someday. My husband usually is a lalafell that has a Hyur name, though he doesn't rp much I usually played it off that the lalafell was adopted if anyone ever asks about the odd name. Most don't seem to question a name at all though. For a year my own character ran around with a male toned name and no one thought to question it in the slightest. So all in all just figure out a name you like and run with it. There are certain ways each race goes about naming their own but you can always have that oddball family who goes off the spectrum and comes up with an original name. ^^

I'll join sooner or later. Doing a bit of rp over discord just to pass time heh. ^^ Good to hear one of the wards is filling up Curious how things are gonna go when they add in the new housing area with the expansion.

It's been a little bit but I decided to check back in and wow things seem to be growing steadily. If I don't watch it by the time I am able to play again you all will be as populated as Balmung. hehe.

It's great to see you guys growing ^-^ Maybe in the near future I'll get the chance to be on the server with everyone. Till then though I'll keep helping nudge this up. :3 -
mateus Hearth and Home(STEAD) [Mateus]
Rosekitten replied to Chant's topic in (Antiquated) Free Company Hall
*friendly nudge* But for real... Miune is awesome to hang out with. :3 Do it! It'll be fun. -
Lori: Work-a-holic drunkard smith that probably should stop being suckered into playing a guard.

My character personally distrusts magic healing, though understands it is needed from time to time. I use to know someone who would fall gravely ill if they had too much magic used on them as well. I'd assume a long term or life lasting wound could be possible. I played as a hire guard for a blind man once. Honestly that was rather enjoyable. I've also seen others act out or detail out having to lay up for a while or bring mention they can't follow their fellows out into th fray due to whatever wound still needing to heal more. My character had a rather nasty leg wound for a long time. Where she normally wears heavy armor and throws around a two handed weapon she had to take it easy for a bit and even switch how she would handle fights she could not get out of. Shoot I injured my foot to the point I nearly broke the ankle when I was younger. Even with the proper brace and rest it never healed right and to this day it acts up from time to time with a sharp sudden pain and forcing me to sit or find something to support myself with unless I want to end up on the floor heh. Now I know that real life isnt the game world but it is an example that even with proper care something can still go wrong and leave that lasting mark. Pretty much due to the lack of real solid limitations on almost anything in the FFXIV lore.. let your mind run wild and just write out ideas till you figure something you really like. Everything can be explained if you take some time to look into it or figure out some basic means behind it.

How to get RP on an anti-social character?
Rosekitten replied to Kieran's topic in Character Workshop
My character is a bit on the anti social side. In most situations she's dragged to events or forced to go from some other force when she'd rather be doing nothing better than working at the forge and getting her orders taken care of. Her job alone forces her hand in being social and entertaining her clients (even if she would rather strangle them for the poor condition some weapons or armor comes into her shop in..). I worked out ooc things when I was first starting or just pushed the idea out there of what my character did or hung out at. Maybe even find quirks to add like they may become chatty or more open to conversation if such and such topic came up or some odd amount of drinks were consume. Some folks get way more chatty if they hung around the bar for a few hours or if a topic they really held knowledge of came up in passing. Even if it's just correcting someone like "No it's pronounced this way." (maybe asking someone if it's ok to butt into a conversation first though to be polite about it ^^). This of course would draw attention to your character and whoever you were addressing would likely react or at least the character would to the situation. Shoot.. I tried to avoid going to events just because ooc I didn't like trying to keep up with the walls of text. Yet somehow my blacksmith was dragged to everything from the large dances hosted to the summer swimsuits.. Once you get a few characters who put up with or are attached to your character things may very well be easier. Most of my contacts I met either on the road in some small rp meet and greet or in the drowning wench. The other handful were probably clients ic'ly and tried to get her out of the shop whenever possible due to her work-a-holic nature. Also I second what C'kayah said. Put down what you really enjoy. I normally said simple things like common rp or small adventures, blacksmith work etc etc. Just give them some idea about what your character would talk about, do or be interested in. Some little catch. ^^ -
Planing to xfer my main character when I get the funds and return to the game. So it'd be a smithy mainly. Though she got dragged on the damnest of adventures.. ranged from pirates to a knight themed origination and at some point or another being a mrd trainer x.x I removed all of that from her wiki with the intent of a clean slate with the server switch as any contacts wouldn't be on the server anyway(not that any of them are active anymore). I tend to stick to my commoner type and straying away from heroes so the character is more of a support character to other stories even if she has her own. I can toss you a message for more information if you need it. I have it on a note pad till I finish coding out her wiki page.

I can't offer anything in game for now but if anyone wants to dare some casual side forum rp feel free to bother me.. Figured I would post the offer out there as I will eventually return to the game (despite my husband's protests of how much of a grind it is ).

other servers Those Seeking A New Home
Rosekitten replied to Koti Nexus's topic in Chronicled Connections
*gives nudge of approval* But really, these guys are great. ^-^ -
I duno about siren (didn't check there when I was seeking out servers) but I know janova also has a rp population. Also the server Mateus. While they might not be the overwhelming numbers of rp'ers like Balmung both groups I talked to had their charm and ideas for growth of the server.

I backed off of this thread but seeing a few people seemingly go back and forth.. It's just in timing and who you run into. My personal experiences with the server .. yes I would agree it is quite Toxic. When I first joined the game I would have told you otherwise but in later years that is just how I feel or have been treated by the community bits I have run into. Personally this thread isn't even on topic anymore as it was suppose to help the OP and instead of taking the various thoughts and opinions in stride we have people going back and forth saying that this person is wrong because this this and this. Even though I do not enjoy the community on the server now doesn't mean someone else cannot get the experience they are after on Balmung. I never once said I hated the server or no one should go there. I've rather enjoyed seeing both sides being discussed on the good and bad of the server. I like to keep in mind that not all tricks and hints will always work for another. Sometimes people get really unlucky or just need that extra push or aid. Instead of listing all the things the OP should or shouldn't do there was the option to message them and invite them to a FC gathering or a open house or even just in a random meet and greet out in the world. I use to do that a lot especially for new rp'ers/members to the game or people who posted they were having trouble locating rp. I may have only gotten a little bit of a interaction myself but I helped build someone else's spirit up or helped them refine their character so they could better locate what they are looking for instead of passing on the same advice everyone else has already said time and time again. (sorry if this came out a little harsh or angry like.. I promise I'm just waking up and my little ones are being a handful ^^; )

I like that character concept a lot and I think there is a lot of room for creativity. I think a surgeon or even some type of herbal healer would be fun to play and still fit that archetype you are looking for. I know there is some type of medical help linkshell where they take in wounded or respond to field injuries if you are looking for that type of action. Actually a herbal healer would be very reasonable. My character's smother I described as a field medic but had no talent with magic so to speak so she used natural or herbal remedies. Not to mention some characters I have run into distrust or just flat out dislike magic. Even for healing they will fight against someone using it on them.

My rule of thumb is rp what you will so long as it is not lore breaking. The jobs listed are not just keep in mind it is difficult to obtain the white mage training so to speak. But I have seen many carry out the story on how they pulled it off in roleplays very well. ^^ I try to avoid the final tier of the classes but that is just my preference and it makes little sense for my character lore wise to be a full fledged warrior. As far as races and such.. the only things I ever hear anything about are normally personal quails with characters and others. I have had a few distrust my character for being a Duskwight but at the same time she has her own reasons for disliking a Lalafell so no harm no foul there. I'm sure people missed a lot of opportunities for some interesting rp stances when the new race was added for any of the Ishgardians out there as well. ;P But another rule of thumb I play by here.. if you are unsure or want to play on some dislike towards another.. ask them ooc first if you are worried about hurting someones feelings. ^^ Never hurts and it could lead to adding quite a bit of realism to the story.

As I said to each their own. What one may enjoy another may not. Maybe the dozens upon dozens is what I feel the issue is. But my original post was a suggestion. I did not say the op should go do this but it is another option she can add to her list if she wishes. My aim was not to derail the thread any or to have people tell me my thought on the matter was wrong because it was not their own. Also you can scout out a server before you made said choice. For all the good times I have had on Balmung they are long in the past. Scout out a server if you want to make sure you fit in or will like it there, check the state of houses the market. Do a checklist if you are planning to transfer your character so it won't be a waste of money. Heck make connections before you do it so you know you are going to have rp if you are that worried about it. I'm not suggesting a server jump is for everyone either. Maybe if I didn't have the long list of terrible experiences and memories on the server I wouldn't mind sticking around but to pay the monthly fee and not enjoy myself is just silly.

Worst advice given so far. Running from your issues as a shy wallflower aren't going to be magical fixed. In fact, I imagine you only have to try HARDER to get noticed on a server with barely any roleplayers. Not really running when the only enjoyable rp I have had was from players who long left the game. Anything in the recent years has been a sorry excuse for rp when I did bother. Just because I would enjoy a smaller community myself where I could actually get to know people or know what was going on isn't what I call running. But hey to each their own. As I said.. I had rp and I got noticed. It just never lasted long due to people being fickle on how they wanted to play or rp from day to day. From anyone who has met me in game or back during the beta.. shy is hardly my issue.
