How has Ishgard been feeding itself?!
Aduu Avagnar replied to QueenFrejyalen's topic in FFXIV Discussion
That's disgusting. AND HERESY. *torches and pitchforks* but yeah, dragon meat and alpine food grown in the more untouched regions methinks -
I've not touched Coil since my group fell apart on T8. I mean I would love to get back into it, but I am wary, due to the reasons why it fell apart.

I would hope that no one takes any of my posts in an aggressive or offensive manner? I am the kind of person who likes to use a basis of realism and build up the fantasticalness from there, so I do look at the whys and wherefores to build from. Including the way that different weapons work etc. But I certainly don't ever try to be offensive or agressive. And if I am, it tends to be /very/ obvious.

Oscare would drop a racoon face strip mask... -
Note that the wall simply has a demonic visage. It is not, in and of itself demonic, and is a Aetheric construct

Ala Mhigo was recovering from a civil war that was the cause of the death of so many Fists. The scars emotional of that conflict along with the loss of their Monks left it easy for the Empire..... .... If I remember the lore correctly. A civil war that I believe was engineered by the Empire.

Will two hands replace one hand, and dark knights replace paladins?

That explains why Kadaj was whooping Clouds ass both times the fought and even disarmed the guy until Kadaj decided to be stupid an do a cliche jump attack lol that was more Cloud 'not having the will to fight'. All through the movie he's shown as running away. You'll notice Cloud got a lot better at fighting nearer to the end -

So, by now we all know the tale of Edda, who went a little bit cray cray and did many a ritual to try and bring her late boyfriend back from the dead. This used a lot of blood, spelling his name lots of times on the floor. The description of the Demon Wall card implies that Blood isn't simply used for Void Magic but that there is a type of magic that simply uses blood as it's focus: So, would we say that its Void Magic, Arcanima of a sorts or simply a different style of magic all together?

Will two hands replace one hand, and dark knights replace paladins?
Aduu Avagnar replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
The "block everything and kill anything that bleeds" thing was just an 8-bit Theather quote... But nevermind. What I meant was, if I'm doing RP combat as a greatsword user, against someone using sword and shield, and they start godmoding with the excuse of being faster or whatsoever, I'd be pissed off. As it's always the case with godmoding. except thats an issue with godmodders, rather than anything else.and which is where if you're that worried about it, use rolls rather than freeform. -

The issue is that due to DnD, Greatswords have taken on the role of a two-handed sword, which isn't truly the case. A medieval Longsword is classed as a Greatsword, as it is based on the blade length. The handedness of the sword is determined primarily by the hilt, and weather it was designed for one handed fighting, two handed or hand and a half. Given the Greatswords we are talking about fall into the two handed category, you wouldn't want to use one in a single hand. It's not designed for it, even if you could carry it due to the weight. The balance wouldn't be correct. The sort of swords we're likely to see would be a Zweihander or Claymore (literally meaning Great sword in Gaelic), maybe with a Flamberge style blade. These were designed to combat troops not protected by plate, as although the concussive force was great, it wouldn't cut through it. Which is why moves such as the mordstreich where you would use the quillions or hilt to deal a concussive blow to your oponents head. And one of the reasons why generally a Sword and Shield would come out over a two handed sword? reach. Unless you have the space to swing it, a two handed sword is very limited in what you can do with it. Someone within your reach is at a very distinct advantage. That is not to say there is nothing the two handed sword wielder can do, push off against the shield to create room, stab down over the shield to try and catch a gap in the armour. It's just the options are more limited. Also, your comment about sword and board user 'beating someone with a greatsword without problems just because they can "block everything and kill anything that bleeds"' can be applied to just about anyone. I've heard of someone taking a full on blow from a piercing weapon, to the chest, and only received a scratch.... That shit would have slipped through ribs and pierced a lung. -
the if was more regards to the seizing power. Anyone that takes power and doesnt have the support of the people tends to risk an uprising.
-
If it's carefully foreshadowed and doesn't happen immediately, then sure, I'm down for it. However, if there's nothing showing it right now I can't make that speculation in good faith. If he seizes power and doesnt try to solidify a good powerbase through good pr he would see a civil war headed by the Flames. If he gets the people on his side, then the Flames are less likely to start anything as they would not gave the support of the people.

Which of course succeeded numerous and simultaneous violent revolutionary movements in India, and was followed immediately by a bloody war between the newly independent countries. This is true, but the transition itself was peaceful. I think it simply speaks volumes about humanity that we resort to violence to deal with our issues.

It's not so much that Ul'dah RP has become/is obsessed with cloak and dagger. Rather the MSQ took thar turn and we are rilling with it.
-
Drastic change never occurs peacefully. But on the idea of Lolorito assuming power and the dynasty changing - there are hundreds of examples through history of noble houses coming to power the same way. I do not think this is crossing the line of believability at all. Drastic change can occur peacefully. If you look at the american revolution for example. Besides the whole war with england, internally it was a rather peaceful transition. The few token rebellions were quashed without even a shot usually (some of them personally by george washington). Revolutions by the elite (which Ul'dahs or America's were) are far less bloody and complicated than revolutions by the masses (french, russian) Yes because there was a war. If England had just shook hands and let them leave, it would have been relatively bloodless. I'm talking about internal strife, not external. Of course there was a war. a better example would have been India. And them gettimg their independance via peaceful protest with Gandhi

Well, Oligarchy is simply when the power rests upon a small number of people, most royalty is Oligarchic.

Oh, it's definately Plutocratic, not Democratic. (Demos being people, Plutos being wealth.)

If I went DRK at any point, it is all dependant on the lore, rather than anything else. That and it allows me to use my HEMA knowledge to even more use just remember, against someone in heavy armour, slashing is actually pretty useless, apart from transfering concusive force. Mordstreich. Murder strokes for everyone -

One of my favorite things about Warhammer Online was basically being told that I was meaningless cannon-fodder. Was a pretty refreshing change from games that constantly portray the player as the "chosen one", and it fit the Warhammer universe really well. Reminds me of the good old days of WFRP and Dark Heresy. -
Nako's magic tends to be low-middling power. For instance, he can summon a carbuncle, make fireballs, push people back with wind etc, rather than doing shit like flare, or super-awesome magic effects. As for balance, I gave him a pool of magic, which is currently sitting around the 75-100 mark. whenever I come up with an effect for him to do, I assign it a level, 1-3 1 being a cantrip or basic spell, 3 being the more intermediate stuff. Whenever he casts a spell, I check the level of it, and subtract that from his current pool. Once he dips below a certain threshold, it makes it harder for him to cast spells. example: Nako has a current pool of 75. He casts spells until he drains his power down to around 50. From this point on, level 3 spells cost double to cast. keeps going till around 25 From this point on, level 2 spells cost double and level 3 spells cost triple. When he gets to 0 power, he is tapped out, and unless he has a manner of replenishing his magic to hand, he cannot cast any more for a given period of time. sometimes, depending on what is happening, certain locks are lifted and he can occasionaly cast higher level spells, but of course, they drain him of his aether quicker. The pool of magic reflects both his mental concentration as well as his actual level of aether, meaning that he also cannot cast conjury once he is drained. He is too mentally exhausted to do so.

Nako has the ability to glamour himself, but its derived from a mask similar to the one from the Hildibrand quests. That being said, he doesn't do it unless the job requires it.

When in times of war it is typically the poor that are most abused, from taking the kings shilling to simply being an easy scapegoat for a noble if said noble has failed at a task. It is the Dark Knights duty, I suppose to try and bring justice to the peasants. those targets of nobles and inquisitors that like easy prey. Who else would stand for them? if a noble stood against an inquisitor that would put their own house in line for investigation, or if against another noble then they could start a feud that could backfire. Also, remember this is the first major push by the dragons in 20 years. Plenty of time in which to pick on poor people.
