Give it en-spells similar to a monks fists. Str, S.speed, def. a persistant aura that gave health back to nearby party members as a percentage of damage done. (Drains mana when up) And weapon skills that give of damage style effects focused around the sword. Fire strike, aero lunge, thunder feint. Or whatever. Rdm in eorzea. /Bows.

As for why? Nako trained in its use for the ocassion that he may be restricted in using his magic. He would rather be a contributing member of a group tgan simply a man with a stick. That said, he hasn't worn it in the field often. The only times being the grindstone and, lo and behold, he had lost access to most of his aether. As for balances, he can't match a master thaumaturgist in their ability to cast thaumaturgy. he also is more restricted even then to contact or near contact spells. As a personal preference.

It is most definately in the Goblet, as per the OP. And Chris, Anyone that tried to obstruct the Blades, as Kage has pointed out, would likely suffer legal repurcusions. Nako is a royalist, and a Flame, but would he interfere with a Blade on legal business? hell no, because he knows to pick his battles. As I think most adventurers would be smart enough to do.

You also have to bear in mind that not everyone in the Goblet would up in arms against them. You say they would be sure to receive a thrashing? I don't think they would. Most people when faced with this sort of thing actually tend to keep to themselves, they don't want trouble for them and theirs. also, who is to say that the Free companies and adventurer's know the truth behind why they are there and what happened in the room?

I'll likely turn up, given a change in Nako's circumstances ICly (Consortiums being shut down springs to mind.) but one query, concerning yourself, please don't take this as a criticism, but given that the Flamesworn are the Flame General's most trusted, one would think that actions would be being taken against them, or at least a plot to facilitate their curtailment. (I am aware that Robby One Arm is in jail for attacking a member of the Syndicate, rather than anything else, but one would think that Lolorito as the defacto leader of the City would try to limit their movements.)

Brass blades are employed by Lolorito, not Ul'dah. He simply has them perform the acts of peacekeeping, albeit in a corrupt way. But they take their cues from him, not the Syndicate. only the 1st and 3rd are there presently, and are under the influence of Teledji Adelejdi again, taking their cues from him, not Alphinaud.

All the people hating on Merlwyb for leaving Robby One Arm (dammnit berrod....) to his fate, I refer you back to the earlier speech she made. Limsa. Alliance. Anyone else. What do you think would have happened if she had ordered her man to intervene, or intervened herself? What is currently an isolated interal affair for Ul'dah would suddenly become an international issue, whereby either she would be arrested for breaking the laws of Ul'dah, or a war may start between Limsa and Ul'dah in the aftermath. She is saving Limsa from possible repurcussions and limiting any that might be too late to stop. or at least thats my take on it.

From what I've seen from being at the tower, you need to play the waiting game to "aim" as you just said. You need to wait until the front legs are leaving the circle or are close to the outside to get the definite hit. Too easy and it's a miss, too late (and by that I mean reaaaally late) and you'll miss. There's a big window for firing, so the system is very generous. For the last two at least with the tethers, you can simply wait until they are done and then it will be in the best location.

no doubt they have a half baked excuse as to why the Blades are guarding it. this stuck out to me: They'll arrest you like they did the others. This to me says that some of the Scions may have been arrested, rather than killed (looking at Papalymo and Yda.)

if they keep harrasing you? report them, and blacklist them and move on. I wouldn't retcon it, relationships inspire growth, and you would have to either get rid of that growth or come up with another reason, but I wouldn't acknowledge them from now on. but thats just me.
