  1. 1. Quicksand is popular, also RPC's events calander is excellent for this! Get into a good FC that will push you to RP with them once your comfortable. Find someone who knows all the hotspots. It's can be intimidating at first, I really think finding a good FC - or LS if your freelance - will really help with this. 2. Look at the LS section of these very forums! Also ask Guild Leaders about their FC. I run the Night Blades and I love it when people come to me with questions about my FC - even if it doesn't fit them in the end. 3. LORE! I love Lore. You can ask me whatever. Send me a PM, ask in this thread, or send me a Tell in the game. I'm on as Armi usually when I'm idling. I will definitely help you with lore.
  2. We just introduced our house ICly as a small headquarters/office. Our neighbors on the left are not RP-ers but are really nice and invited us to all run CT with them the day we move in and we bonded. The neighbors on the right are so we know they're good
  3. ^ This is the greatest post to ever post.
  4. We would love to have you! I'm currently working with Roen to get her involved in our Season 3 plotline and I would be more than happy to do the same with you Hurray a new lalafell! So many Miqote. (Love you guys <3) and you can slip into Mondays Coil right now. Everyone in the group last Monday loved you, so this is the easiest acceptance ever.
  5. YES! This is the enjoyment I get from RP as well, story arcs with love! Tragedy! Fallen heroes and redemption. Families and betrayals and alliances. There are definitely storytellers and RPers out there that crave and thrive on good storytelling. Tavern RP and random encounters are just a way to meet people. Once you find that you gel... then you can PLOT to your heart's content. Indeed, this is the whole focus of my FC. We are so plot heavy we call our arcs "Seasons" I'll give an example of what we like to do by going over the plot of Season One Season One saw the infiltration of a few Garleans in the Night Blades. They hid for weeks while everyone was making their introductions. We introduced a past bad guy from 1.0, a character named Fillion, who we mentioned off hand - stating he was bad, tried to run our old FC into the ground, then died in the Calamity when Ellion stabbed him. People were interested in the backstory but didn't think much of it. Meanwhile, a character named Dais had infiltrated the FC, posing as a simple priest. No one really thought much about him either and we were all busy rebuilding and working on friendships with the alliance guild Grim Echo. Everything was good, till the day Dais asked Armi to escort him to Gridania since she knew the area well. Some people didn't trust him, he was kind of a lech, but no one really thought he would do anything. When she was being escorted, a few people happened to find them and make sure she was okay. Dais, wanting to get Armi alone, poisoned Ellion and made him stay behind. Dais thought his plan had succeeded - till Sindl showed up at the Highbridge. Reluctantly, Dais had to change his plans because Sindl wouldn't leave. He left them alone while he went to get firewood - then 4 men attacked Sindl and Armi. It was a tough fight but the two ended up shot with arrows and left to die in a cave in Coerthas. It was then Fillion made himself known. He used the linkpearl to communicate with the Night Blades and the Grim Echo. He was back, he was angry, and he wanted revenge. Fillion was Garlean, see, and he wanted nothing more to turn Eorzea to dust - along with taking down the Night Blades. He became interested in the Grim Echo because of Sindl's interference with his introduction and decided if they were allies of the NB they also had to die. We introduced a bunch of evil PCs, family members and followers of Fillion - they stabbed people, took peoples eye's, Kidnapped people, tried to kill people over the course of a few months. THe Arc ended when 2.2 became with a huge epic battle for Siben's - the inventor of the NBs - life and forcing the Garleans into hiding for most of Season 2. ~~~ We're currently working on Season 3 - which is set to begin in April. We loovveee big story plots and usually revolve them around most people instead of one person. But social RP is super important. In between story rp we were in bars, doing the Grindstone, or just hanging out to get to know each other. If characters don't care about each other, big epic stories don't work. No one would have cared about what happened to Armi with Dais without doing the legwork of making friends with social rp.
  6. I think currently with the patch coming up it's going to be hard to find a lot of pick up RP because why play when you know a patch is coming? This is pretty standard for most MMO's and everytime a content patch is on the horizon the roleplaying goes waayyyy down, then stays down while some people do the content for a week or so. Don't get discouraged! Keep trying to meet people (I also have the problem that the Quicksand is just too crowded for my awkward character though I go in there sometimes) and hang out at the Quicksand when you can. Go to events - the easiest one would be the Grindstone every Saturday there are lots of spectators. Is your FC pulling you into a story? Try to get involved in their shenanigans. As a GM of a heavy plot based guild, I LOVE it when new members are proactive and sent me tells about how to include their character more. It's hard, because it's easy to be shy. Your best bet is to find someone who can pull you into things so you don't feel so alone. I know a few people in my guild who are really popular at the Quicksand (Calling Natalie, Calling Roen) who may be able to help you with that. We RPers are friendly, but it can be hard to pull us away from our established groups (My character was out of social rp for 2 months due to a guild plot and I'm having to reacclimate to pick up rp). Also I'd be willing to rp with you
  7. Hahaha you went to that? I hear you guys did good at the turns but Titan was just eluding everyone for some reason. They way we run our Raid Groups is really simple - whoever signs up gets a slot - so the first 4 dps who sign up go,very simple, and I'm sure the Monday Coil would love to have you as a permanent member (I even go sometimes on my second character =D). We're also setting up EX Primal parties (Getting clears for Garuda and getting people to learn Titan) that work exactly the same way. Ellion has been kind of busy though and hasn't quite gotten around to posting about it yet. I also believe that once a few more of our tanks gear up we'll be trying to start up a third group, so lots of options here.
  8. Sounds like your looking for an FC that doesn't have a static, just a schedule to go, one that RPs and has plots since your kind of shy. If they aren't fulfilling your need to progress and to RP, find an FC that does. THough, I know how it is wanting to stick with your friends - we let a lot of our friends into our FC even though they don'r RP because they want to hang out with people they know. It can be a hard decision. Make sure you talk to your friends about it openly and honestly BEFORE you leave or it will look really bad on your part. If/When you decide to leave, expect me to try to pull you into the Blades, but I won't do it now as I think the best option is to try to talk it out and see where you want to be without any kind of rash decision.
  9. ^ We're the greatest, Bender!
  10. ^ What they said. Just because your not "on" 24/7 doesn't mean Roleplay is scripted. Aside from GM plots, all interactions with my character are completely organic and not planned out. I actually think you'll find that about most FCs. The most scripting that goes into a lot of rp is "Wanna go to the bar and RP?" for most everyone on this server. I'm a HUGE beleiver that Armi is not me. At all. She doesn't act like me, she doesn't think like me. She isn't me. But I'm not her everytime I log into the game, either, but that doesn't make my interactions less organic.
  11. WE love newbies! Hello! The Night Blades is a Darker themed FC/LS with a VERY HEAVY emphasis on plot. We call our plots "Seasons" and Season 2 just finished up are a 2 month arc. Season 1 lasted about 4 months and Season 3 is currently being worked on and set to start probably at the end of the month. We have 3 or 4 people who GM the storylines and are always looking for more ideas and writers ;o We are a Medium- More Medium (>.>) RP guild that also focuses on endgame. You can get more information about us in our LS advertisement: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1825
  12. Night Blades is a darker themed RP FC as well, but, as was stated above, our FC chat is OOC. We have an IC LS you can use to talk in character as often as you want but since we also focus on endgame/game content we have to be OOC in our FC. I'd also recommend looking up the Grim Echo, who we're aligned with but have a much heavier RP focus than we do.
  13. I've RPed with you briefly on Armi ;o. I'd always be willing to do so again!
  14. Correct. I don't think a lot of people are playing evil for the sake of being evil if they are a bit quirky. Me, my fiance, and my friend all play a Garlean family. Very rich and somewhat powerful. They are smart, ruthless, and believe they are doing the best for Eorzea by A. either pruging it because the Primals are dangerous or B. having them all fall under the Garlean Empire. They are extremely loyal to Garlemalde but not just rank and file soldiers. Yu can play with the trope and not be special snowflakey. I think playing an ordinary "Take all orders" soldier would be a bit boring. There's no real personality there. That doesn't mean I'm playing a super special snowflake.
  15. It's still kind of active. The NB also has a lot of Garlean alts, but most of us are rank and file under another character already.. and most of us play those unruly characters you hate so much (Playing well disciplined soldiers without any quirks or habits of our own sounds rather boring, to be honest).
  16. Blasphemy. The coolest city is Limsa.
  17. Balmung represent yo. Lots of random pick up RP, lots of events, and lots and lots of roleplayers. The only thing that bugs me is how most of the RP is in Ul'dah. *sigh*
  18. ^ We use our LS as a long range communication device to help facilitate close quarters RP, so for us it's not the only place we RP like at all.
  19. I actually wrote lyrics for Armi. I use Jpop songs, translate and re-write them into English and record them. Because she writes her own music. I always use mostly acoustic guitar songs (Or at least start out that way) and refit the lyrics to make sure they fit Eorzea, any reference to the real world is changed to something in Eorzea. Generally when I'm with people I roleplay with a lot, if Armi sings a song I'll link the song so they can listen to it OOCly and pretend she's singing it. If it's people I don't know or it's not really the place, I'll type the lyrics into /say because people listening to me sing is scary! I was considering have Armi be entertainment for thing and linking those songs so people could listen at an event, but she really needs to get over her crippling shyness. It works out really well, and I've even gotten complimented on the idea.
  20. I have a friend named X'havir Vahl. Doesn't really post here but may want to get in contact with him.
  21. I have that issue a bit too. Since my guild is a medium RP guild none of us are really in character 100% of the time and some people don't roleplay at all! I just have to hope people send me a tell or something first to ask, usually if they do I'll actually figure out a way to jump IC unless it's completely impossible (Like currently, Armi is in Aleport while Stanzie nurses her back to health so she wouldn't be in Gridania, for instance)
  22. I mostly just adapted characters I already had from previous games. So I'll just talk about that. Armi was born in FFXI. I didn't have a name for her, and was going to use Armachia - which is the name of my Lasombra vampire from Vampire: THe Masquerade. I didn't really like the name for her though, since I felt it was too harsh for the kind of character I wanted and just shortened it to Armi. Back then, the only kind of characters I ever played were sarcastic, mean, witty, femme fatale types and I wanted a change - so I rolled Armi to be nice and sweet and kind of shy. That's been carried throughout all the games I play with her - though her backstory and such always changes. In FFXIV I took the 10 years of experience I had playing her in various games and wittled down what I liked about her and what I didn't. My plan with Armi and Loki was to compare and contrast the "Virgin and the Whore" trope of the bible. I thought it would be interesting to play two vastly different characters and explore those two things. Thus, Armi became the "Virgin" Armi existed in 1.0 and back then I decided she was a Priestess of Nymeia who believed her own will was not her own, that her whole life belonged to fate. I did this because I thought the 12 God thing was interesting, but in 2.0 - after the Calamity - I wanted her to be angry at the Gods she once was so devout too and try to distance herself from them to find her own place. Because she entered the Priesthood so young - 12 - I made her awkward and shy; she just does not understand social queues and desperately wants friends. BUT to make her interesting and not a wallflower (Because I'm not really and I didn't want to get bored) I also made her eager, curious, (Unintentionally) funny, talkative - though with a tendency to ramble. Loki, on the other side of the coin, became the "Whore." Loki is from a homebrew Table Top game from many many years ago and I always liked the character so I always bring her in when pirates can be a thing. Loki in the table top, is a space pirate only really because I like the fantasy of pirates (The reality... not so much) and built her around that. In FFXIV - she's an ex-pirate; her ship and crew were destroyed in the Calamity. I didn't this because I wanted to see her start from nothing, since I always give her an established pirating career. I gave her a fake leg and a scar over her eye in order to show the consequences of her lifestyle. I made her promiscuous and flirty, but sarcastic and snide. I have her entire romantic past mapped out. I also decided to make her an eventual Summoner, having come out of the five year skip with some weird Aether problems. Neither character are really anything like me. I don't like playing me, I am me. It's no fun to me so I tend to make characters that are all over the map. I find I can slip into any character - evil, good, shy, outgoing, male, female - rather easily and like to challenge myself.
  23. I just saw you in Fallguard! HA I would have rped with you had I known
