I'd really consider switching if we ever did. Part of me would miss the current design I have now. Also because I like thinking that Franz is big and buff, even at nearly 7 fulms tall. (If Cid can be buff, why can't other purebloods?!) I'd probably switch too! But I wonder, do most people use Highlanders for pureblooded Garleans? I see a lot of Midlanders used as Garleans (I use one myself). And then there's Lucia, who's definitely using the Elezen rig with modified ears. But that can be SE just using what's on hand until they make a concrete decision, like they did with pre-reveal Yugiri using a Miqo rig. Hrm. Not that it matters much in the end, I suppose. Back in 1.0, Nael and Gaius used Elezen male models as their base. From what we've seen of the Garlean NPCs without helmets on, mot are of about Elezen height with a more Hyur-shaped head + third eye, save for Cid who used a short Highlander model in 1.0 and now is completely custom. We'll hopefully get some better views in 4.0, but I don't forsee Garlean as a playable race ever because of their generally poor aetherial manipulation skills. I CAN DREAM! *flips an entire castrum* Of course, I'd probably have to retcon Corelyn's height if we ever got legit Garlean models. She smol. :> (Not even sure how this post edit made me double-post but uh... my bad. >_>)

(Edited for weird double-post edit? Damn you, WebSense! J'accuse!)

Same! Corelyn is also a Pureblood, but hides her third eye for paranoia issues, so Highlander it is for her, typically (though if we got Garlean models YEEEEEEEEAH BOIIIIIII).

Corelyn: Prissy little nerd girl joins the big bad military, gets her ass kicked and turns traitor. Gets her ass kicked more and starts hanging out with some pirates. They get their asses kicked so she goes to cry about it. Becomes even bigger nerd. Reunites with old friend. Meets more friends. Makes a bunch of gizmos. Tells friends she's a wimpy traitor. Spoilers: Some people find out and kick her ass. Now she's back with her own people because she got her ass blackmailed. Ripperoni in pieces. Dail'a: Total asshole leaves his tribe because he thinks they're bigger assholes. Newsflash: It's just him being the asshole. Goes around picking fights with everything. gets his ass kicked a bunch, but kicks some asses too. Meets some girl and gets all mushy over her. Ruins his hardass cred. Kicks some more asses to compensate. Gets involved with shady people who make him an edgelord. Diabeetus couple runs away to "find themselves" or some cheesy bullshit. Asshole comes back and, surprise, is still an asshole.

"Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki"
Hali replied to Berrod Armstrong's topic in RP Discussion
Came back to find out that Corelyn and Dail'a's wikis had broken in my absence! Given I'm finally back and no longer locked out of the game (lovely lovely Squeenix support /rolleyes) I figured maybe that should be fixed. So they're fixed, and all nice and pretty. <3 Took a week or so's worth of work, but I'm happy with 'em! Now to unleash them upon Eorzea once more! >=-D -
I used to have a macro that chained a few emotes together to make it look like Corelyn hit a button on her faceplate to raise and lower the visor. It looked pretty cool. =-) I don't have it anymore, though, and it gives me a sad.
-
I always imagined Corelyn's voice to be very similar to that of Billie Piper. . Dail'a, on the other hand, has always sounded, in my head, like John Barrowman (partially leaning toward the Scottish dialect because of all the slang). John Barrowman

Hali replied to YesGood's topic in Roleplay Events
I hope people dress as someone who actually wears a cup to a fight. BUT YES GOOD. Hey, every time Dail'a has participated, he has worn one! It's served him well twice now, protecting his poor miqo'nads. -
Basically this. I use quotations just to be consistent with my writing. Warren Castille: Otherwise you get weird things like this. Warren Castille demonstrates in text. "Sometimes you have them, sometimes you don't." Warren Castille: And that just looks sloppy to my eyes. This. I used to just do without the quotes and do it just as Warren demonstrated, but it started to look unrefined and irritating to me. I also like that it opens up the ability to continue writing some given emote after without having to break it up.

Dail'a is very interested in hitting things with sharp things. If that is what this involves, he might be there, provided nothing stop him.

Eeeeeee, I love these so much. Corelyn: Dail'a:

In my opinion, there are a lot of factors that can come into play here. Skill Similarity: How similar are these skills? For example, a warrior and a dark knight may find far more ease in switching between one another's skill sets, both using similar weapons. On the other hand, a paladin may have trouble balancing both her martial arts and, for example, summoning, the two being absolutely nothing alike. Combination and Cross-Class Skills: Especially in FFXIV, we have a system of "cross-class skills," essentially allowing us to borrow skills and styles from other classes. The way this would, in the most extreme sense, translate to RP that essentially hybridizes a person's chosen class or skill set. However, this can both detract from and support the individual as a whole, because while they may focus on one "hybrid" skill set, they may neglect elements from the primary. A gladiator who shares skills with a rogue, for example, might wield a longsword in one hand and a dagger in the other. Similarly, a machinist that wields a gunblade, fighting in both close and mid-to-long range. Both examples will have places in which they excel greatly, but others in which they may fall short because of neglect from the non-shared aspects of combined skill sets. Physical vs. Intellectual: Is the character an Adonis? An Einstein? Or a combination of both? A character may train themselves to be the pinnacle of physical perfection and skill, yet that leaves little time to pursue the magical or intellectual arts. Similarly, a character who spends all their time immersed in books, magic, and the like may not be the best physical fighter in the world. Age: Age provides a very interesting bell curve to this equation. As a character ages, they gain invaluable experience and knowledge of their chosen skills and abilities. With time, a young person can become not only wiser but stronger. However, at the peak of this bell curve, there is little room for further improvement through age alone, as most (though not all, admittedly) people decline as age goes on, in mind, body, or both. Nature vs. Nurture: Are these skills they were trained in explicitly? Or do have they mastered a style all their own? This can add into age, as well, as either can take more time or be more difficult. The Skill of Skill: Just how skilled is this person at learned their skills? Often referred to, especially in interviews as being a "quick learner," this means a character can understand, grasp, advance, and master said skills. Time Investment: How much does this character keep up on each skill? Do they even have the time? While this could tie in with "The Skill of Skill," which can make some characters able to pick up and drop certain styles, skills, and other things as though they are second nature, this is a rare ability, and the more skills to which one tries to apply this ability, the more rare and unreliable it can become. This stands to reason that if a character who, for example, does not spend all his time fighting, but attempts to be a fighter proficient in as many of the physical disciplines as he can, he will begin to grow "rusty" over time. Spotlight Syndrome: An important question to ask is why does this character have so many skills? Many people try to make their character as multi-faceted as possible, but this can oftentimes detract from others' enjoyment, making their roles feel threatened by a character perceived as potentially omnipotent in their range of skills. This can lead to all kinds of resentment, misunderstandings, and the like. Suspension of Disbelief and Group Mentality: This is purely subjective. Some people like to apply this factor, and some do not. Realism in my vidja gaymez? HOW DARE YOU! However, many people like to use this as a "balancing" factor to make sure that everyone involved can have fun and contribute, preventing Spotlight Syndrome. This level of "realism" that people desire, and often, use as a point of judgement for others (fearing godmode, powerplaying, or the like out of inexperienced, naive, or simply just "bad" roleplayers) can vary wildly between one person and the next. It is for this reason that it is important to know your audience, as well as your peers in any given situation. While no one likes to subscribe to another's system of belief, it's always best, especially in these events, to find a happy medium and go with that. If you need to tone down or buff up your character so everyone can have a good time, even for a single RP scene, then don't be afraid to do so. tl;dr, there are so many factors that can go into learning, practising, and mastering multiple skill sets that it's really a far more complicated question than "how much" or "why". Many of these principles are situational, so the most important factor is to be ready to adapt to others, ready to communicate where everyone's boundaries will fall and how to compromise and negotiate them, and how to judge what best suits your character, both realistically and logically from many different angles.
-
Generally, I self-evaluate through others. If I don't just ask directly, I will talk about my characters or ideas and bounce them off people before doing them, then gauge their reactions or ask for opinions. If all seems well from there, I go ahead and do it. No bad reactions in practice? Good. All is well. Yes? Ask people where the problem is and how it may best be improved.

Corelyn: Light/Sparring: "Dance of Swords" by Aivi Tran and Steven "Surasshu" Velema (from Steven Universe)
-
Dail'a Naras and Aya Donovan - or as her player and I like to call them: diabeetus.
-
- Corelyn spent a good many years of her youth learning and practising ballet. - Her handwriting is also entirely illegible to anyone but herself if she doesn't take her time and write slowly. Sometimes, it's not even legible for her. - She loves the colour green, but owns almost nothing in that colour - at all. --- - Dail'a has a crazy soft spot for coeurls and kittens. He once wanted to raise and train them, but couldn't bear the thought of losing them. - He will often punch things just to see how much it hurts his hand... or the object he's punching. - Sometimes this applies to kicking. - He owns a pair of sunglasses because the sun and bright lights hurt his eyes, but often uses them to make horrible puns.
-
I think this is a really interesting point. There is a fine line between having a sad story, and a character who is just constantly 'woe is me'. Laike is in a bad circumstance, but the struggle I tried to make with him is whether or not his innocence and sunshine will degrade in the face of trouble. So while the story around him might be extremely sad, it doesn't mean that every scene with him is him being sad. I think that if you have a character that is only ever sad, and there is no evolution or change.. it might not be the best rp for those around them. I guess it's a balance in that respect. Alllll of this! Joking aside, I embrace and thoroughly love all aspects of RP, and love light-hearted, funny stuff especially (I have a CSI: Miami macro for Dail'a where he puts his sunglasses on while he makes a pun and use it frequently). However, life, especially in war-torn, dangerous worlds, are not always happy-go-lucky and drama-free. So a modicum of balance is always the best thing to have. Corelyn in WoW is full-on broken bird most of the time because of an overabundance of tragedy she just could not escape (of course, I don't mind - I take whatever story comes and roll with it as it happens. More fun that way), so Corelyn in FF has been a breath of fresh air most days. But yes, I do still love sad RP. When I want to give a character a real reason to push themselves harder than they ever would have before, I present them with The Bad Thing: That one of few things that would get under even the most stoic or easy-going character's skin and really drive the point home. Another reason for it could simply be to advance a story. Not all stories are good and happy. Some just do not go in the direct one would expect, either. Sometimes, this includes the world just crumbling. That all said, though... I am an evil little jerkbag and love to watch my characters suffer just as much as I love to see them happy.
-
I can only sum up my thoughts on this topic with a comic I see and love on tumblr very frequently: it me doe It's coming, Dail'a. Corelyn had hers, and there will be more for you both. Just you wait. The whole world will come tumbling down. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahahaha... h ahaag ag gah ahgh aha... *cough*

Trial: Battle on the Not-So-Big Bridge, 4 (Normal) 8 (HM/Ex) Player Trial Highbridge, Eastern Thanalan Quest: Showing Up the Showdown "In all his confidence, self-proclaimed blademaster and fellow adventurer Dail'a Naras has challenged you to assemble a group of friends and meet him at Highbridge for a sporting test of arms. However, will his overconfidence be his undoing? He didn't even opt for a one-on-one match..." Combat Theme: Phase 1: Quotes: "Hahahahaaaalright! Lesse what ye're all made of!" - At start of fight "'Eads up!" - on using Rain of Stabbers "Sorry mate, game over!" - if Lights-Out is triggered "I'll take on the lot o'ye!" - before using Fury Storm "Step into m'blendaahh!" - before using Blender (Ex only) "Fore!" - on using first Launch (Ex only) "Whew! Why don'we take a quick breather, eh?" - At 45%(Reg/HM) / 40%(Ex) health before Berserk "Lesse'ow y'andle 'is one!!" - on drawing greatsword for Berserk "Bugger me, yer still standin'!" - all players survive Leveller "Off with yer'ead!" - on using, obviously, Off With Your Head "Y'just don'stop do ye...?" - 10% health "Ow ow ow ow... okay, okay, I yield! Tha'was fun! We should do it again... after'is nap..." - Upon defeat Attacks: Phase 1 (Dail'a: Fighter) Dail'a engages the party with a longsword and at first, periodically assaulting random party members with throwing knives and colourful leaps. Auto-Attack - Swings his longsword at the highest enmity target Rain of Stabbers- [4 second cast, used every 10 seconds] Throws a fan of knives into the air, which rain down over a targeted 10-fulm area for moderate damage and apply a 5-second root. Lights-Out - [instant, special] Dail'a attempts to finish off anyone with the root debuff from Rain of Stabbers by leaping to them in a flash of movement and striking them between the eyes with a powerful punch. Reduces a player to 1 HP and stuns for 8 seconds. In Your Face - [instant, used 5 seconds after Rain of Stabbers] Dail'a jumps to a randomly-selected party member and strikes them with his longsword. Deals moderate damage and inflicts a "bleed" debuff dealing approximately 25% of a player's health over 8 seconds that must be healed through. Fury Storm - [3-second cast, replaces every other In Your Face] Dail'a unleashes a furious flurry of slashes and kicks in a 10-fulm radius around him, dealing moderate damage. Players hit by this are knocked back 15 fulms and stunned for 8 seconds. Ultimate: Berserk At 40% health, Dail'a draws his greatsword and, stabbing it into the ground, is enveloped in dark energy. He lifts off the ground slightly and charges around the battlefield, rushing each living player and cleaving through anyone in his way. Primary targets take heavy damage, but targets in between are reduced to 5% HP. At the end of his rush, he returns to the middle of the battlefield and releases the darkness shrouding him and dealing light damage to the entire party. Phase 2 (Dail'a: Dark Knight) After Dail'a is done rushing the players, he wields his greatsword exclusively, empowered by dark magic. Auto-Attack - Swings his greatsword at the highest enmity target Off With Your Head - [instant, used every 10 seconds] Dail'a leaps to a randomly-selected party member and strikes them with his greatsword. Deals heavy damage. Breaker Wave - [5 second cast, 15-second CD] After a short charge period in which his greatsword begins to glow with dark power, Dail'a unleashes a massive circular swing that sends a wave of dark energy out 15 fulms around him which deals heavy damage, knocks all players hit back by 15 fulms, and gives the the debuff "Dark Mark." Purgation Bomb - [instant, special] Any target with the "Dark Mark" debuff or that is killed by Breaker Wave will suffer an implosion of shadow energy after 5 seconds, taking heavy damage and drawing all players within 20 fulms toward them. Players drawn in are dealt heavy damage, and deal additional damage to the Marked player on collision or to themselves if the imploding player is already dead. If two players or more are drawn in, the Marked player explodes violently, immediately wiping the party. HM Differences: Most mechanics remain the same with few differences: Phase 1: - Rain of Stabbers now has a 3-second cast time. - Dail'a now uses In Your Face every 5 seconds after Rain of Stabbers, but every other use is followed up by using Fury Storm on top of the player targeted by In Your Face. - Lights-Out is now an instant kill mechanic. Ultimate: - Targeted players during each rush of Berserk will now explode as Dail'a hits them, dealing the same damage they took to all players within 10 fulms and are stunned for 1 second. Phase 2: - Off With Your Head now applies a bleed that will not expire until a player is healed above 90%. - Breaker Wave now has a 3 second cast time, but the range is reduced to 10 fulms. - Purgation Bomb wipes the party if 3 or more players are drawn in.( Ex Differences: Most mechanics remain the same plus all in HM with some differences and a new phase: Phase 1: - If a target is below 50% health after the bleed from In Your Face expires, it will trigger the root Rain of Stabbers and, consequently, Lights-Out. - Rain of Stabbers now has two target areas - one around himself and the other as normal. Phase 2 (Dail'a: The Axeman) - New phase between 1 and Ultimate/2. At 65% health, Dail'a grabs a marauder's greataxe and uses it against the party. Auto-Attack - Swings his greataxe at the highest enmity target - this cleaves in a cone in front of him Launch- [2 second cast, used every 10 seconds] Launches the second-highest enmity target in melee range toward a random ranged target. If no other melee targets are available, he will use it on the highest-enmity target. Primary target takes heavy damage on hit and on colliding with another player. Ranged player takes moderate damage and is stunned for 2 seconds. Shatter - [instant, used every 4 seconds] Dail'a slams his greataxe into the ground, causing stone shrapnel to fly out at the entire party, dealing moderate damage. Blender - [5 second cast, used after every other launch] Dail'a winds up, then spins around with his greataxe, attempting to dice everyone within 10 fulms. Deals heavy damage, knocks players hit back by 10 fulms and stuns for 8 seconds. Stunned targets take 200% damage from Shatter. Ultimate: - Berserk is not used until 35% health. - Explosion radius of players hit by charges increased to 15 yalms. Players caught in between Dail'a and his charge target are now killed outright. Phase 3: - Greatsword auto-attacks now have the same cleave as greataxe autoattacks. - Purgation Bomb now triggers if any players are dragged in by Dark Mark, but instead deals massive damage to all players in a 40 fulm radius.

Corelyn cannot use the Aethernet at all, being Garlean. She has a teleporter device that can take her back to her workshop, but that's all it can do, and has a very, very long recharge time. Dail'a can use it with a bit of frequency, but only uses it when alone. He also dislikes how it feels to do so, so while he can... he more often doesn't.
-
Corelyn, traditionally, throughout her iterations, has actually been a fan of most kinds of metal. Heavy metal, death metal, power metal, especially progressive... Though she also enjoys more classical music, as well, mostly piano. She always knows how to play piano. Dail'a would be more the type for hard rock, alternative, EDM, or dubstep, typically.

While I personally love the honour system, unfortunately it very infrequently works since few people want to see their characters hurt in any way. Granted, there are exceptions to this, and I'd like to think of myself as being one of them. Regardless... I should think it doesn't quite matter whether style or "suspensions of disbelief" clash. Some people see Final Fantasy as a chance to RP crazy anime physics, while others want to, as it was put, keep to the nitty-gritty super-realism styles. This all boils down to OOC communication, or lack thereof. If even ONE person is going to toss aside all pretence and immediately start complaining about another, or if someone refuses to communicate or agree, then there will immediately be a problem. In the inevitable - and you'd really have to be deluding yourself to think it's not - event that different RP styles like this clash, OOC communication is a must. If there are problems in RP, they must be worked out civilly and calmly. Otherwise, tempers will flare, and people will start getting hostile. It's at that point that the fun ends and RP becomes drama. The easiest way to solve any of this is to not label it as anything but a difference in style until otherwise seen. Communicate OOCly as to reach a consensus on how best to proceed where both RPers can agree on the actions, outcomes of actions, and the rest. It only becomes godmode when one player refuses to acquiesce and outright ignores the other player's actions, reactions, and attempts to communicate OOC to cease. It is NOT godmode, however, if neither player approaches the subject and one or both simply sit and stew that they "don't like how the other works." Please be aware that even in the most established RP communities, there will be new roleplayers that don't know these things, and need guidance. This is not godmode, either. Granted, I know nothing of the reason for this thread in the first place, and the specifics of the incident that gave rise to the qualm in the first place, so this is kind of just my general input on situations like this. tl;dr, OOC communication is absolutely essential to avoid unnecessary conflict and drama. Please, please, PLEASE do it!
