Finally got something to contribute with, after a long spin of horrible days. I won a contest and got a giftcard on 35 pounds to spend on any store/restaurant downtown. Yay! Will be treating the BF to a nice meal when he comes over next.

I can recommend making/keeping a spellbook/abilitybook for your character. My own guild's forum has a section for them, with a template. The idea is that as you fill it in, you map your characters spells/abilities (Spells obviously for mages/healers, ability melee oriented) and get yourself an overview of what you're playing around with. It works wonders for maintaining a balance in your character - and allows you to write down descriptions which can help you when you're out fighting. During RP it can be hard to remember all of the tricks your character has up their sleeve. As your character learns new things, you can update and adapt - maybe your character learned something really powerful, but in doing so they failed to maintain another of their strong abilities which subsequently became less strong. You can also work out how to balance having several strong moves by making rules such as, if my character uses this move, this other move can't be used in the same fight due to exhaustion. I keep an ability book even for my non-fighting characters, most of them would do okay in a barbrawl but would be no match against anyone that is trained (or alternatively, not drunk). As an addition for those non-fighting characters, I decided to map their network of people as well, because I consider a characters political reach (just to give an example) an ability as well. Maybe they'd get beat up in a fight, but then they know someone who could make the offender feel sorry later on. Otherwise I'd say, remember your environment, remember your characters condition - having had 5 meads at a tavern shouldn't magically not have any effect when you start fighting and remember to take hits. If you end up losing, try not to get sour over it - losing can be just as fun as winning, it all really comes down to what you put into it when it happens. Practice, practice, practice. The more you do it, the more familiar you get with your character, the more quirks you can work in. To add a fun element.. If you can work your character into a state where they can mentally drive their opponent down during/before the fight, then that can be very fun to both watch and do. I've seen it happen irl to an archery competition, the guy wasn't downright mean to his opponent, but his confidence and belief in himself, his friends cheering on him and I mean /really loud/ cheering made his opponent so nervous they could barely shoot Absolute sorta like, "I am the best and I am letting you know it" style. However, remember that talking during fights can distract your character and make them vulnerable if they're not used to it. It's not the only way to make it fun, more just to give an example. Sorry if I repeated anyone else's points, I just skimmed through the thread so far. I can PM you the template I've been using if you're interested in it, OP.

Nailah Quill, trader-turned-company leader. Somewhere close to 30 years old, fond of wine. Way too fond of wine. And Thala'to, former dancer - now masseur, friendly - kind - reliable. Will be your most loyal friend if you give him a chance, though he tends to linger in the background. Often referred to as a "Shadow".

The Ixali beast tribe daily quest would suggest that some specific people may yet win the gi- I mean, favor, of them to do some trading. Though I am also thinking, if they have been attacking/defending themselves from dragons on fronts further away from Eorzea than ishgard, they might have opportunities in areas they managed to secure from the dragons. Also. Maybe they started eating dragons? Meat would probably be a bit tough but might taste like chicken? Maybe that's like a hidden side to all of the dragoons. They don't just hunt dragons.. They /hunt/ dragons. And their jumping/poledancing aids in butchering as much as it aids in -butchering-. Maybe their regional specialty is a dragon egg souffle?

Hello everyone! There was some recent activity in the old pen-pal thread, so I have decided to make for a new round of signups. What is the Pen-Pal project? The pen-pal project is, as the name suggests, a service where your character can get matched up with another character here on the RPC. The matches are as random as I can make them, and in order to make that happen I need at least 10 people signing up for each round. If you sign up later than this round, I'll put you down on a waiting list and try to get you in when I have enough people to make it random again. If you have/had a pen-pal already but want another, feel free to sign up again. Letters are exchanged using PM's here on the RPC, due to the in-game cap on how long a letter can be. If your character can not read/write, I can recommend assuming that they have a scribe to assist them in their endeavor, or alternatively find someone in RP who can help your character get them read. Okay, how do I sign up? Fill out this information: Character Name: Wiki link/short description: Have you completed the MSQ up until end of 2.55: Yes/No My character should be anonymous: Yes/No/Either works The information helps me pair people up. Please let me know if there's someone I shouldn't pair you with! Send this information in a PM, since it could be sensitive - And don't worry, I won't speak of it elsewhere. If you link to your wiki, you will not be paired with anyone that I can see your character already knows if possible. The same goes for people of the same FC. The MSQ Question is there so as to eliminate spoiler elements in the RP, since it's had some widespread effects already. How does anonymity work? Anonymity is tricky, because how exactly do you start something without saying who you are. Well, so far I've heard of a few options. 1. Use Anon Y'mous 2. Have one of the pen-pals leave a random letter somewhere and start the correspondence that way 3. Use a NPC Courier to bring the letters back/forth, knowing it's in the search for a pen-pal. Perhaps your character was feeling lonely or unchallenged in the realms of writing. 4. Be creative! There are otherwise to twist it together. In all cases I recommend agreeing on a way with your destined pen-pal before starting. When can I start? I will announce the pairings when sign-ups start to fizzle out again. I will bump the thread when that happens. When the pairings are announced, one of the names in each set will be highlighted in fat text - That means this person is the one who starts with the first letter. I do however always recommend sending an OOC PM first to make sure your partner is on-board with everything. Round #1 Matches complete! Names highlighted in bold start the correspondence! I recommend sending people an OOC PM to just make them aware that the matching has completed. I will also try to reach out to people. (A) after the two names indicates that the correspondence is anonymous. I'm actually pretty happy to be playing in a setting that doesn't have vampires and (for what I know) werewolves. It's refreshing. I'd love more support for roleplayers, but basing a class system off it seems a bit excessive - It's not like there isn't anyone here making back-stories and character designs that aren't based off of the given classes/jobs. I'd prefer more support in the shape of addon support and additional emotes like you have it in age of Conan.

Welcome! Take a look at the European Directory, a good place to find some people in our timezone here on Balmung I am a nightowl too, but there's quite something about starting RP at 8pm and continuing for the better part of ten hours

My alts are, in principle, kill-able. That not to invite anyone and their grandma to come try, but meant in the sense that if they end up in trouble they for sure will not escape alive, then that will be their end. The only reason why I have a no-kill reservation on Nailah is because she is my guild-leading character in a setup that relies a lot on her, and the guild would suffer and maybe even crumble if she died. But to that end, I also try vehemently to keep her out of potentially lethal danger. Characters come and go. On a few occasions I have killed off a main before because there simply was nothing more for them to achieve, they felt like they'd had their run, and I'd rather end their memory on a high note than sift through months of unsatisfying stale RP. When a character dies, it frees up new time to make a new one, and whilst that is a lot of work, it might end up being an even better character as you continue to grow as a roleplayer

Mom Adventurer looking for rp partners
Maril replied to Kiera Hawkeye's topic in Chronicled Connections
Welcome! Glad you were able to get a spot If you see me about, I'm usually up for RP ^^ All of my three most played characters are rather open to be approached. I really should make a wiki for the third one.. -
Nailah is a functional drunk, meaning that she's at her best after a glass of wine. She turns very grumpy and moody when she can't have alcohol, and actively tries to maintain tipsiness. It can be fun to play her sober, but man do I feel sorry for some of the people that stand in her way on those days. Alcoholism is one of her bigger flaws as a whole, it's been fun to explore whilst it can lead to things going very wrong, it also has some upsides. She rarely drinks herself to the point of being hammered, but when she does she becomes a lot more open and welcoming of things she would never tolerate otherwise, such as displays of affection (Cuddling, kissing etc), tends to tell more things about herself and her experiences and her general outwards-going tendencies gets reinforced, so if she had second doubts about walking up and saying hi to someone, she definitely wont have them now ^^ In short, the professional distance she tends to keep to people as a part of her job as a leader of her company, gets tossed in the bin and she reverts to being more her true self.
