balmung Morally askew merchant looking for connections!
Maril replied to chaoticsleepy's topic in Chronicled Connections
Entirely depending on when you RP (EU person here.. ._.) I'd be happy to offer up both my main and my alt ad casual/business contacts. Sastra is a tradeswoman, prone to take on most deals as long as they're good, and Thala'to is an ex-dancer-turned-masseur who is.. "moderately" obsessed with looking good, to the point of using cosmetics to hide nasty flaws such as scars. I tend to be up through the night during weekends, but otherwise (if you're NA) I am usually around to RP during what is your daytime. -
I've met people of both camps - Personally, I prefer to not count any of my classes as IC, going for a complete segregation that draws inspiration from what is available - If you were to put Sastra into a class box, she would somewhat fit into archer but then not entirely, she's sort of a hunter/survivalist/trader mix. I find that that kind of viewpoint is far from rare in this game, though I can't say if or not it is the majority that follow this playstyle. Levels to me do not exist at all either, and I put more weight on furthering my characters skills through roleplay than through for example a background story. Why i do this is.. Honestly a tricky question, I was taught how to RP in WoW 5-6 years ago where there by far was not the amount of differences in the RP styles as you see today but rather a sense of that everyone roleplayed this one way, and those who RP'ed in different ways were sort of looked down on by the rest of the community (though I think in and among themselves they had plenty of fun). These days there's a better understanding/acceptance of the different styles, which I guess can make it more difficult to navigate for newcomers. I'd say that the way I was taught just from a natural point relies heavily on ignoring game mechanics, so choosing for example emote-fights over duels, creating your own spells (within reason) over linking the skills from your hotbar, walking into a field and imagining that there's a campfire there over only using the locations that you can see etc - and the game itself serves more as a visualization of the roleplay, with the established lore as the big framework of the canvas. And I would say that the kind of style I am (hopefully) describing is not really so suitable for constantly being IC in, and I'd even say that being Always IC and roleplaying with someone who isnt always IC also poses some challenges - Such as figuring out when other people are IC, as we have no addons for that here (yet). At the end of the day it comes down to what you feel like doing, and then potentially you can find an FC with a similar style which would make things easier.

Awesome stuff!

I love it when all of my stuff sold overnight. Best way to start any day is by looting 100k from your retainer over a cup of coffee/tes before work.

Personally I prefer adding a year whenever ARR turns another year, because it's honestly a lot easier and I can't really see how adding x amount of extra days because XIV has 1 more day per week is going to change a whole lot in the grand scheme of things. And to me, present time is completely unrelated to how far you are in the main story, because it shouldn't matter for your character unless you're RP'ing as "The hero of light". So I would say that it is now 1578, and the Calamity happened 6 Eorzean years ago instead of the 5 that was stated when the game launched. That is, in terms of counting years. If you'd ask Sastra icly she'd reply with the eras and that. EDIT: The fact that they have anniversary events ought to help though, like if they keep on having them every time XIV turns a year and marks it in game as a year that has passed.

NEW RECIPIES!!!! *ferretchock*

Today I confirmed that I can wake up 15 minutes before I have to be at work and only be 4 minutes late. Talk about having your butt lit on fire Benny hill soundtrack should have been playing in the background. Pretty sure I looked exactly like what hat happened though, I didn't really have time to look at my face before I left. And then I got absolutely soaked on my way home from work, so now I am considering cancelling all other plans for today and build a pillowfort to play XIV from.

If a roleplayer is extremely away from the lore/game setting (Like roleplaying a mithra) and they take up a lot of emote space around where I am, then I can consider blacklisting them for the duration of the RP session - Unblacking them again afterwards, I don't have anything against them as a mmorpg player, but when we're out where my character can't interact with someones character anyways then I would honestly rather have them on the blacklist so I don't get annoyed/confused/whatever. Otherwise, I blacklist people only when they are blatant griefers (this includes trolling by pretending to roleplay whilst doing things to bait a bleed-reaction) and otherwise when we're talking about harrassment and stalking, both of which I've experienced in the game. When it comes to my FC, I tend to avoid calling for everyone to ignore someone unless they're a griefer. Even in cases of harassment and stalking, I would rather trust people to make what they perceive as the right call, however I always reserve the right as an FC leader to tell people to politely get uninvolved with our events if they have been causing trouble.

Welcome aboard ^^

A weeks break was all we needed We are back in gear with recruitment.

This is one of the many reasons I like to have my regular RP peoples on skype, copy/paste to the person works wonders, however it is a problem that it takes about 4 minutes for you to realize that it happened. I always assumed that it was a bug that they didn't want to fix.

I dragged my mom to Ikea, bought like, half of the store and convinced her to help me assemble it. No one died! Among the stuff I picked was my bed, my desk and my shelf-systems. Protip for the future: If your surfaces at home are predominantly black or dark brown, do not buy a black phone. I can never find it ._.

I've never been much of a returner, when I leave a game it tends to be for good. I do look through my old screenshots at times though, and stuff like things from my WoW-time (Where I started to RP some 6 years ago) always cause me the strongest nostalgia. Not because of the game, but because of the people I was around at the time. For all I know, they have spread like the wind and I have probably run into some since without realizing, and with people gone I have no reason to look into returning. Rather I am more fond of moving to someplace new and getting a fresh start. I was a really obnoxious teenager 6 years ago as well so it's probably for the better in the end Some people from my time there I still am in contact with, but it is maybe one or two. I also sometimes really wish I could visit things like Rubies of Eventide again, an old free to play mmorpg that I played before I started WoW, we're talking like a seriously old game with nothing to show for graphics and turn-based combat. But it was a very unique experience in terms of the players that were there and just how the setting was. If you died you lost your items or alternatively had to wait for someone to come and /carry/ you to a temple, which would slow them down because you're carrying a corpse. And I guess there's just something very nice and community bonding about someone taking 30 mins out of their life to come save your sorry little behind because you challenged a cat twice the size of yourself I miss that kind of stuff because I don't think I'll ever experience it again.

I am going to use it purely OOCly to get "hitched" to my non-roleplaying bf On sastra anyhows. For my alts, they'll use it icly if that ever becomes a thing for any of them. So far they're all single

9ptM0B4tcWM ^ That one is pretty fitting for Sastra. "I will learn, I will learn to love the skies I am under"

My weaknesses must be the occasional pop hit (Like suddenly "singing" call me maybe to unfortunate victims on Skype), Disney songs and various 80's/90's flips. Otherwise I usually listen to various types of metal, Celtic music and epic scores/movie soundtracks.

Lalafell, strength and you! Light up the Sounsyy Signal.
Maril replied to Warren Castille's topic in RP Discussion
I do not know if/where there is lore backing either theory, but I am thinking that if people were to go out and assume that your average lalafell is as strong as your average roegadyn, then essentially that means there would be no difference between any of the races - a midlander would be as strong as a highlander, etc. Which kind of screws over a few things, such as the main physical differences between highlanders and midlanders (Being taller and more bulky) - if they were at the same basic strength then why would there be this obvious physical difference? Highlanders are used to living in a terrain that involves more mountains and such, meaning that you generally have to be stronger to survive, where as midlanders are used to the lowlands, where strength does not matter as much as say, the endurance to walk great distances. So by saying that as a standard lalafells are as strong as another race, you could potentially cancel out some of the effects of the other race, and what sets them apart from the rest. And even if there is lore backing up the notion that they are as strong as everyone else, I'd say it should be food for thought. And when one looks at the lore, especially quest lore, I think it's important to understand that not all of it is suitable for making broad assumptions on. Some NPC's in quests are portrayed to be better than the average, ie I wouldn't expect any NPC from the main story quest to be your average joe, they'd surely have had to do something to earn them a spot next to a bigshot. So even if you can find one or two lalafells that are portrayed to be very strong, it doesn't always mean that -all- of them are, rather what it suggests is that a lalafell can train themselves to be as strong as your average roegadyn, though I would imagine that they would have to pour most of their day at training. And in that alleyway, you could probably have a hyur that is so unfit that a lalafell could easily seem superior in strength. At the end of the day, when you choose a race I think you should stay true to it's quirks instead of cancelling out those that would make a fight "unfair" if they were matched with something that has a lot of what they themselves do not have. -
*NSFW* ERP- should both IRL partners be okay with it?
Maril replied to thatgirl's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
There should always be an agreement on touchy things. You may have to compromise to get there, mind. If he ERP's for the sake of jerking off and avoiding sex with you, and you're not okay with that, he should pay attention to that and find a way to make it work for both of you. If he's ERPing because it's a part of an ongoing story where i happens without being forced and whatevernot and understands that there's a clear line between IC and OOC, then personally I wouldn't have a problem with it - But given that he has cheated on you irl before, I wouldn't be surprised if the latter wasn't the case. You seem to have made up your mind already, honestly it sounds like you'll be happier if you join the single club -
I have no preference when it comes to the size of RP, I can be around 100 people and have as much fun as if there was just one other person, the only thing that gets me there is the speed of the chatlog, sometimes it just scrolls far too fast. Where I get a bit more picky, and this completely at the risk of sounding mean, is that I tend to not RP with light-roleplayers because of the at times very obviously clashing views of the two "Camps". However I always refrain from pretending people are thin air - I just wouldn't go into deeper plots with people that have for example a different take on lore or continuity. This is one of the reasons why I do not frequent the quicksand - not that there isn't a chance of meeting someone like-minded, but it seems to rarely happen. Regardless, I always consider myself happy to meet new people, and I have an openminded character that definitely will talk to strangers, if she feels like it ^^ I like to keep RP feeling natural. That means I never railroad my RP, but rather I set goals and if they get achieved or not is up to however things happen. Sometimes things progress fast, other times they do not, but ideally the less I have to oocly sit down and pre-emptively decide upon, the better. I tend to shy away from RP where it doesn't make sense for my character to be - when I am on Sastra, that means I do not partake in fights a whole lot, because she can't really fight people that efficiently. When i DO fight, i use freeform. I enjoy a mix of plot/storyline RP and more casual bar-type equally as much as the other, and I also like playing NPC's for said storylines. Gives a bit more oomph when you can play against a character Beyond that, I do not like OOC drama and will usually try to disengage from it if it's not something that directly involves myself. There's probably more to it but, I guess if people want to know more they can just ask - I do not bite ^^

As we have reached a fairly high playercount, we are temporarily closing recruitment. You can still submit an application, however we will first get back to you when there is an open spot. Thank you for understanding!

There was a lot of talk about it here: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=7427 Specifically, I took to C'kayah Tia's response and since then in my FC, we have accepted the conversion rate of 5 gil per 1 USD, we use it as a rough guideline for anything from weekly pay and the menu in our bar. I did some sort of maths and figured that in order to live for a week in just-above-poverty, one would need to make 1000 gil per week (= ~200USD) which seems reasonable to me. It would give people around 47 gil per day for food (if we assume that there are 21 -3*7- meals in a week) which could be accomplished just fine if one was to eat a lot of boiled eggs (5gil at the vendor) along with some bread etc, though if one went to the Bismarck every day they'd probably get to wash dishes forever. I think it's very interesting to factor IC economy into your character and roleplay, and I think if more people accept the same standard then it would really become a powerful element in the RP. With Sastra, I've established that she has about 2000-5000 gil per week in reliable income, depending on if she goes hunting or not, and depending on if she makes sales or not. She doesn't pay herself all too highly for her job as the leader of the Kindred (mostly because she can't wrap her head around having a lot of gil after 10 years as a homeless person)

When I took over Europa, I made a new one under my name and the old one was moved to the graveyard Maybe you can get them to do so too.

Poking for interest. A "Come dine with me"- esque event?
Maril replied to Maril's topic in Chronicled Events
I think the commentary would be a bit difficult to do, other than posting something to the thread here in that kind of style. As for entertainment, I guess it could be anything from arranging for a performance by a bard, to showing off your characters talent or challenging your fellow diners to something not so usual? Like uh.. Axe.. throwing? Just as a small thing to happen between say, the main and the dessert.
