  1. Not necessarily true.. I stuck with 1.0 from OB til the game went down due to the love of my character here, the realm, friends I made, and of course the RP. I barely did any real "game stuff" for quite awhile (because it was terrible). So there are certainly people who can do this. I still loved logging into 1.0. But if you don't like logging in? If the good doesn't outweigh the bad? Then yea.. it's time to move on. If it's just because you can't find RP, consider finding a new LS/FC.. and remember that if you don't log on, it can be hard to maintain RP connections!
  2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834233078 My laptop.^ I'd recommend it to anyone. That said, the price has gone up a bit since I purchased it. It was a splurge for me. Gaming laptops may not be "necessary" but damn they are enjoyable.. I did not intend this to replace my desktop, but it has. I'm sure I'll go back and forth as this one begins to age in a few years, but til then, I'm enjoying it! Runs XIV at highest setting smooth, though I play a little lowered just for performance. I love having a regular HDD and an SSD (Windows and XIV is on that so far). Your budget is a lot higher than mine was, so I'd recommend exploring the gigabyte line of laptops on newegg.
  3. Dis very nice! I look forward to seeing more for sure too!
  4. THIIISS. Mine is bolded. Additionally, as has been said, do your research. Thoroughly. Accept that there WILL be people turned off or even offended OOCly by your character's disability, whatever one you choose. Also be aware of IC consequences due to the disability, because there probably will be some. Not everyone is tolerant and accommodating of people with mental disabilities IRL, and some characters won't be tolerant either! That's not to say that their players are like that, of course. I understand where you're interest is in playing this kind of character. And there are quite a few people out there with characters that have some sort of mental disability, my own included. I haven't heard of autism specifically being portrayed, though I have met some characters that may be in that spectrum based on their actions.
  5. Interestingly this transcription came across my dash today. There's speculation that it may be Dravanian, not just gibberish. For your future reference also.
  6. Funny faces are best faces.
  7. PS: I believe there is maintenance tonight!
  8. A bluebird. A friend knew how squee I was at getting one OOCly (I have birds IRL ), and thus threw it into my RP by staging a scene. Now said bluebird "Kus" lives in Aysun's satchel and generally just follows her around at a distance--when she's not hiding in the satchel!
  9. I only feel this anxiety when I'm playing a role I know I shouldn't play. Such as when I was leveling my tank classes - I haaated it. When I'm on my roles that I'm practiced and good with, I'm fine! Have you considered trying other roles that may cause less anxiety for you?
  10. The NIN storyline - your Doman trainer often makes comments about having to learn Eorzean, and you are helping him to learn it properly. He also says things like 'in my language the word is..' and says a Japanese word. Evidence is there that Domans speak Japanese. You mean Doman! But the point is that they do likely speak some other language hen super-duper MSQ hero isn't around, not that it would matter much because the game -does- tell us that our Echo powers include being able to understand all languages. Otherwise, we wouldn't know what many of the beast tribes, moogles and dragon are saying. I do. (Or, mostly. I go close to Limsan!) ...but it's not really British English that they speak in game. Some NPCs use some more...archaic terms, but I can't imagine all of them are actively in use across the sea, so to speak. I mean, Japanese = Doman. Splittin' hairs, there. And yes, it's not British English that they speak, but it's closer to that than American English. The various accents lend to the regions from whence the characters hail. Ul'dahn seems like a dirty British, whereas Sharlayans/Ishgardians speak a more archaic British, Limsans have like a really really dirty British, Gridanians have a more proper, less accented British (or at least, the padjal do!).. Ala Mhigans now sound rather Scottish. It's fun!

  12. I think people are operating on the assumption that many Auri are Far Eastern (which includes Doma), or are straight up playing Doman Auri. Domans are shown in game to have Japanese as their native tongue (see NIN quests if nothing else).
  13. Hmm. This looks fun. :3 For Aysun it is a bit odd, because her being physically attracted to someone is directly related to being emotionally attracted to them. She does not have one without the other. She's tried, and it's empty and not something she can do. Your character can be the most gorgeous man or woman in the world, but she won't find you attractive or be interested until she forms an emotional bond. Girl-talk about ("he's so sexyyy!") and flirting with people with whom this bond is not made is nearly impossible for her. That said, once that bond is there, there's very little that she can call a flaw in that person. However, some things I think would still be an issue for her if they occurred, though this bond-making weeds out the really obvious things (hard to form that bond with someone who clashes with her personality blatantly, so I won't list those things). Physically: Someone who is shorter than she is - Despite how much she abhors her height in her current relationship as an inconvenience (he's a freakin' Highlander!), being involved with someone she looked down to would be unnerving. Poor hygiene (the distinctly offensive kind) - She bathes at least twice day; she's a bit neurotic about it. Coming home smelling like the morbol you ran into or like vomit from the bar? Completely gross, and she will tell you that. That said, coming home smelling of smoke and sweat from hard work at the forge seems completely acceptable. Changes frequently. - Much make up to no make up to war paint. Blonde hair to black hair to red hair. Frequent, drastic changes to someone's appearance are unnerving to her, especially when they move far away from what is natural for that person. How a person looks is a big part of who they are to her and she feels she has to reacquaint with this new, changed person every time. If someone is consistently "unnatural" she would not be bothered. Mentally: Overly flirtatious people/someone who every other sentence is a compliment. - This just makes her uncomfortable way too often. She is terrible at taking compliments and does not want to be treated specially most of the time. Public displays of affection. - She is rarely affectionate in public, with friends or lovers. Someone who forces his upon her would only make her feel uncomfortable. It's little to do with being embarrassed of the person she is with and more to do with not liking to show that side of herself to the world at large. Liars. - Lies are intolerable, even little white ones, and she has a keen sense of when someone is lying to her. Don't do it. Abstract (stealing this term from Caspar for different reasons) - Riddles and indirectness. While intellect and "smartness" do impress her, she does not like when people speak so damn fancily! She has more than once told someone to "speak plainly." This is mostly to do with her actual inability to understand people when they speak abstractly, due to a smaller vocabulary and lack of education in her upbringing. Simple terms and simple words for a rather simply educated girl, please.
  14. That little graphic is the best way I've seen it described so far! Would be fun to use it to describe our little snowflakes, especially us 1.0 peoples. Like, Aysun would fall into black, red, orange, and green. Silly, but to the point.
  15. I have felt like partying all damn day!
  16. Honestly this is the first time I've dropped this kind of money into a computer, desktop or no. But after building my last desktop on a tight budget and finding myself REALLY wanting a laptop this go around, this was my best choice. ^^ (There's nothing like laying in bed RPing late into the night OHGOD MY SLEEP CYCLES WHY, LAPTOP). Good luck with whatever you choose!
  17. I'm a screamin' lunatic about my new laptop: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834233078 I did a lot of research and comparison shopping for different laptops and this one is just brilliant. It's "out of stock" but there are similar models by gigabyte that are just slightly different that you should take a look at! Other than being a little loud fan-wise (which you'll never notice if you wear headphones a lot like I do), this thing is a beast with a ton of space. I run on High (Laptop) settings capped at 60FPS just for the sake of ease, but it can run on max with no problems. I threw ARR on the SSD and store everything else on the regular HDD. It has G-keys which are GREAT and is super light for being a 17".
  18. Actually they're mostly referring to the "character lighting" setting they turned down to 0. Check it out in system config. We're no longer flashlights!
  19. Same applies! Wait till maintanence i meant waiting for the code i still haven't received mine. You check your email under promotions? yup every day:cry:. I would verify that the order completed/processed correctly if I were you. Send a support letter to SE or call them.
  20. I'm a Medical Laboratory Scientist (the Bachelor's degree kind). You know, that medical profession no one has heard of but is involved in about 70-80% of all medical decisions? I work in an independent reference laboratory in the Microbiology department. Our lab services a lot of small hospitals in the area as well as retirement homes and clinics. Basically, if your doctor takes a swab or sample to look for infection, I get that swab and we culture it, and identify what's causing the infection. We also do antibiotic susceptibility testing, which helps the doctor know how to treat the infection. It's a great career.
  21. That's the thing. People HAVE used the potion ICly. Drank it. Became something else. Drank another one, returned to original state. Etc. That's what bothers me. If people want to roll with glamour, or whatever as a reason for Fantasia usage, go ahead - but the actual potion being created/used ICly was what always made me cringe.
  22. Using fantasia in RP confirmed to be lore breaking. I know this won't stop anyone. But it's good to see a dev response to justify keeping it out of my own RP circles and ignoring it, rather than just rely on sound reasoning. FUUUUCKYESIKNEWIT. ...ahem. That is all. /goes to read more.
  23. This is good information, thank you. Most important question: start menu?
