  1. Enju Abbagliato Balmung Lancer/Dragoon/Retainer The only thing I would ask is to not be in a leadership type card. He chose not to lead, only to serve. Reading over the information on Tarot cards, just ignore what I said earlier. Any card will do. http://imgur.com/nPEdqKz,8zyzVl4,Bzn8fFw#0
  2. Honestly? Just show up. If you're nervous about people not wanting to have you in their RP for whatever reason if they're out and about, send a tell and see what they say. Most people I know of are alright with a newcomer being with them.
  3. What Miqo'te? There is /zero/ Miqo'te npcs in Coerthas. If I did miss any, where would they be? I'm curious. There is a difference between being racist and being nationalist or having pride in tradition. If you want to twist my words into saying that /all/ Coerthans are racist instead of specific people, then perhaps you should reread what I wrote. Not to mention if you actually bothered to read what I wrote instead of posting a blatant lie about what I wrote you would know that I /did/ mention other races existing in Coerthas. In fact, if you look back to my earliest posts, I did mention that Miqo'te do exist in Coerthas, just not in the region, and that is ONE npc in 1.0. Please read the post next time. It's very rude to do that. Please Edit: Misread intent apparently. Oh well, guess I should use the PM function more.
  4. I would hate to say 'wait' on a personal plot, but if you are sticking around for Heavensward, you might have access to it then, since it will be one of those desperate times that any sword-arm that is willing to help and willing to go through the training can become a Dragoon. In tradition, the armor is specifically crafted for you, as well as a weapon for the Dragoon, Gae Bolg for help in guiding them in jumps to successfully land on their target. There are female Dragoons as well as males, though now that I think on it, there is no lore on exactly what race was the Dragoons of legend. Considering that the only Dragoon npcs are Hyur and Elezen though, chances are it's one of those two exclusively until the player comes along.
  5. You won't get much lore on Ishgard itself until you hit level 30 and receive the job quest to become a Dragoon, and zero lore on Dragoon otherwise. You'll begin seeing lore once you hit level 30, and more every 5 levels, with the 2.0 story giving you a brief glimpse of Ishgardian hierarchy, and the 2.4 story giving you more details on higher chain of command. In short, you are a Dragoon in this game because you are sent a letter for being the best in the lancer's guild. You are not a Dragoon because Ishgard wants outsiders as a Dragoon. They are closed off to the point of isolationism despite starvation, lack of materials, among other, far bigger problems which you will find out in the plot of XIV. Why they continue their isolation you will find out in the story as well. In short, it is extremely uncommon for races not Hyur or Elezen to be part of the citizenry outside of servitude, let alone be in the armies itself. House Fortemps accepts adventurers, but all outsiders are forbidden from learning the practices of Dragoon until extreme circumstances, which Heavensward and the Dragoon Questline will show. There is multiple sets of Dragoon armor, though it is questionable for a Miqo'te to don the armor, or so I would think, let alone get training as a Dragoon. The title itself, however, is gained from proof of slaying a dragon if you are in the Ishgardian military. If you want to RP a Dragoon, you are either going to be an exile, or you're part of Ishgardian military, and thus stuck in Coerthas for your RP if you want to be dedicated as such. I don't know about others opinions IC or OOC, but some of the more...traditional Dragoons would give you the cold shoulder, if not outright call you an insult to Dragoons because of your race, and/or the belief that you did not 'earn' the right to be called one. I personally think it would be fine if you did get some training on some of the basic Dragoon skills, but it is a stretch enough as it is with the current plot line. There is also some abilities that only the 'Azure Dragoon' can use lore-wise, which is (I think) your level 50 job skill, Dragonfire Dive. Even if you /did/ attempt this, which there is some special snowflake syndrome going on, as it has the chosen one plot and all that, you won't be recognized as the Azure for reasons you will find out in the questline.
  6. From what's been said, you can schedule the wedding now, but the earliest weddings (Which I assume are Platinum) are open on Friday. At least, if I didn't read the site incorrectly.
  7. The same IC dragoon I mentioned earlier later threw his spear through another dragon's throat in an IC invocation of Piercing Talon. No one present for that had any problems with that person exhibiting enough strength and skill to pierce dragon hide/scales with a thrown lance. In fact, I get the feeling that any and all people who are questioning a dragoon's capabilities in this thread would totally be chill with most if not all of what a dragoon is supposed to be capable of being used ICly. Willing suspension of disbelief, you know. It's a thing. Since this is brought up, I feel I should 'jump' into this conversation. There's always a rule to combat RP I felt is necessary, and that is 'Use the tools you have when they make sense.' Whether that's abilities stated in the game or otherwise is up to the player and what they are meant to do. Jump in particular is something I was at odds with. I honestly can't say whether it is 'okay' to use it against regular targets. It's just, why do that against a skilled fighter when you could just keep them at a far distance with the lance-tip? The only practical thing I can see is possibly combining Elusive Jump into a strike, or doing something along those lines. Although to say that 'Jump should always hit, no matter what' is hyperbole, while 'Jump should always miss against smaller targets' isn't entirely accurate. Using it is fine, but it needs to make sense on /why/ it would hit, and unfortunately, that's up to the opponent (or the dice) whether that hits or not. It is never the user's decision for the most part.
  8. Is there any lore info on heretics? Do they ALL go raving bonkers or only some of them? The guy in the MSQ seemed fairly lucid and only turned into a dragon when cornered. Could be some, could be all on the raving bonkers bit, but there's terribly little lore right now. Hopefully more comes Tuesday, but you get your subtle in the MSQ of 2.0, then you get the fanaticism that's expected from Ishgard's tales in Stone Vigil Hard. Though it did seem that they are completely obsessed with Dravania and serving them as a whole if all of the Harriers in Stone Vigil hard had a say in that. The ones you stun or they turn into Aevis? They've done some ritual and are far gone with their sanity. All that 'blood and fire!' shouting and whatnot before and after transformation points that out. Just because some crazy people sound lucid doesn't mean they arn't crazy. Just my two cents.
  9. What's funny is that was what my character was going to be like before, well, everything happened in RP. Still, be careful with the heretic route. There will be a time where eventually you /will/ end up as the raving mad Harrier, or eventually turn into an Aevis yourself. At least, if you go down that path, that's what I think should happen, but who's to say if you involve the Echo or what not.
  10. The best villains are those who you think are your best friend. In essence, act like a good character. Be subtle about being evil. An intelligent villain is one who doesn't show their full hand until their plan is already in motion, when there's no reason to hide it anymore. Just because you're evil doesn't mean you can't be nice to have tools that are useful.
  11. I actually avoid using vulgarity if I can. Not because I don't like it (I curse like a sailor sometimes), but because it's 'below' him IC. Not to mention it'd be something below his station as a retainer, in his mind.
  12. Not really sure what an 'honor' system is, but I'm willing to join in once those questions are answered via pms. May as well have those answers here to in case the answer for a character is 'neither is right, and I would rather leave instead'.
  13. There might be a time where Enju decides to completely abandon the lance if he gets scared enough or persuaded to drop it completely as Alberic had, or even retire from adventuring and remain a DoH/DoL retainer. It really depends on newer jobs or how my character develops.
  14. This makes no sense to me whatsoever. Why would you want to do this? Why should I fake how much gil gets fined from me when the real thing should suffice? It's dependent on the RPer to be quite honest. There are some who choose to use in game currency as a major thing to enhance plot, but greed is rather easy to fall into, and some will choose to help more than others out of greed because of real currency being a thing in your RP. Just be careful on doing that is all, it's your money regardless.
  15. Is it sad that I'm more interested in what the monk chest piece is than the Sphairai Nexus appearance? >_> Edit: Oh, it's pvp gear. At least there is catch up, though I wonder what the next ilvl increase is since they're handing out sands/oils like candy.
  16. There's an odd level of attachment I have with each of my characters that I make. The possibility of perma-death is a thing, but I would make sure I have no feelings attached whatsoever before I make that decision on the character creation screen, not while the character is in play. I'd also never, ever, /ever/ do that on an MMO RP scene unless I made that character with the intent of it dying eventually or just never playing the game again. I'd also never do it on a solo RP character unless you're done with RP for good. There's far too much loss and time to have it worth the trouble, at least for me. Just be careful with that decision, Kiht. It's a shitty feeling if you have any regrets after she's already dead, and it's very easy to get regrets.
  17. RP is given when you are active. Just do what you can to make connections and RP will usually fall in your lap. Sometimes a lot more than what you want if you make a lot of connections. I tend to be more closed off myself, but if I'm ever around Gridania/Ul'dah/Limsa, feel free to say hello as I'm usually in IC attire there.
  18. Honestly, the goblin was extremely vague when it came to doing affixing materia. All he stated when it came to specifics was that it enhanced the weapon's capabilities. Could be a keener edge, could be something lighter than usual (that has its ups and downs), or other things. If you wanted something more durable, you can find someone skilled in their craft, since we can technically increase the durability through the repair action. Personally, I'd just call it as you stated it, a favored weapon. A favored weapon will bring some advantages to a character due to how close they are to it in a sense, mostly through skill and technique when wielding that particular item. That's how I'd play it out though.
  19. The point isn't to be rude. I'm pointing out that evidence was shown beforehand that says it doesn't work. You could possibly say that it may react the way you said it would with magitek, but when it comes to the magic in this game, it doesn't work that way. I would assume that the aether works the same way in magitek as it does in magic, but anyone could agree or disagree since there is no lore to base off of it. In the way you stated it, yes, it would make sense. When it naturally occurs, yes, it will work that way. You may not personally like it, but this has been studied through the lore. There is little point in this particular part to be interpreted when it is a concrete rule. Not everything needs to be set in stone, but aether, in my opinion, is a rule that absolutely -needs- to be concrete in order for a story in this setting to make sense. Though I'm just repeating what Freelance Wizard stated at this point in all honesty.
  20. There used to be a book called "Essences and Permutations - A Treatise of the Six Elements". In it were the the three conquests and the three submissions. In short, Earth grounds Lightning, Water Erodes Earth, Lightning boils water for the three conquests. The three submissions are 'Fire is Extinguised by Wind, Ice is melted by Fire, and Wind is obstructed by Ice.' Not sure if the book still exists in 2.0, but it might be around Ul'dah or Limsa Lominsa for my best guesses. Probably the Arcanist guild in Limsa, but wouldn't know the location in Ul'dah. As for if one could learn both thaumaturgy and conjury, I would believe it to be possible, though I would expect either an older character or an exceptionally talented one to do that. There are ways one could somehow use the elements of the other school of casting, like elementally attuned weaponry or maybe an alchemical method with shards/crystals/clusters, but that would be all the information I know. It's mostly speculation or debatable on that end honestly.
  21. If the tank doesn't have a mob marked, you want to bind a key or button to 'target the target of current target (assist target)' under targeting. Should be the twelfth option there. In fact, this is probably the first thing you want to do as soon as you log into XIV again. Most tanks I run with are generally too lazy to mark for various reasons until the coils, so that is what I personally use. I'm going to be honest with you. If you're doing it right and the tank is doing it wrong, you're going to rip aggro from the tank, even if you target what he targets. Though if you said you're in Cutter's Cry, Elusive Jump is your new best friend. Learning when and when not to use this skill is the difference between a good Dragoon and a bad one. It's not just an aggro dump skill, it's also a retreat button, but you can commit suicide in some arenas if you do press it at the wrong area. You did do the job and class quests, right? If you didn't, do them as soon as possible. Make it a habit to use Jump and figure out the timing for when and when not to use it. Otherwise, a standard rotation for your level (I assume you're sub 50 considering what dungeons you mentioned) is Heavy Thrust->Phlebotomize->Impulse Drive->Disembowel, then the standard True->Vorpal->Full thrust combo until either the heavy thrust buff or the disembowel debuff goes away. Re-apply buffs/debuffs as needed.
  22. From what I gathered, I find it odd that those like Minfilia or the Grand Company leaders have some way of remembering previous Warriors of Light, whether they 'look familiar' or what not. I assume it's based on willpower for remembering a Warrior, but family would have an easier time, since items from the past about the Warriors were not erased with their disappearance, as far as anyone could tell with the spell Louisoix cast.
