Edda is right in the context of being a good healer. In this context, a good healer is one that can down, shit any fight in FCOB when it was new and relevant I guess. Healers back then had to dps, I was one of them DPSing in i109 gear as a WHM in Turn11 back in like November or October. Good-ENOUGH healers don't need to dps because they let the group carry them through while they spend, assuming their group is competent and doesn't take unneeded damage, a lot of time being idle. A whole lot. Good-ENOUGH healers are likely not downing Turn13 until it gets nerfed, a lot. Successful groups that say, beat t9 or t13 when they were relevant, did not have two Good-ENOUGH healers. Only one at the most. Bad healers refuse to dps on principle because "Im a healer and HEALERS dont dps." Or something to this effect. They can get carried through any fight once its nerfed, and will likely never beat stiff dps check fights until the nerfs roll in and will exclusively be the anchor holding a decidedly good group back from the win. All healers should bust ass to dps in dungeons if they can because they respect their time and want to get out sooner. I know I can speed up dungeons by several minutes on my whm. I like doing that. If you value your time less, fine, but this isn't a debate.

So on the subject of Operation Dragoon Ride, is this thread supposed to be a deterrence for people to try and best you at DRG, or a reassurance that you simply are the best? Also, >dying to megaflare. All three.

Someone real talk me, I'm on my phone so I can't be too verbose. Editing in a thought of mine In that thread I made about people who are nasty outside the RPC, certain people came into the thread with nothing to add, but also with a clear and concerted effort to derail it because they didn't like it (and they very are guilty of being nasty about users here on other sites, so likely felt threatened by the thread). I'm not terribly upset by the closing of the thread, but I am surprised, as an outsider looking in, that someone can seemingly push mods around like that into closing threads they don't like. The site is great otherwise, and despite that still is. I can only encourage more users to use the looking for connections subforum, meet new people and grow.

Hell yeah I'm bashing people who go on tumblr and act like savages about the FFXIV RP/RPC community, or at least 'poison the well' and expect no consequence. Damn straight I want to demean it. People should shun that sort of behavior, preferably in game, so it dies off. By the way, I'm not talking about like diary entries, or you saw some rp that you thought was kind of bad and commented on it. I'm talking about witch-hunt fueling (and hoping to start) diatribes and just straight inhumane nastiness. Nice title I know. Thanks for opening the thread. And by the way, I mean blogs, aka tumblr. We all talk shit about a lot of people privately all the time, I know I do in private skype groups. This ridiculous stuff where you act one way on the RPC, then go on tumblr and act like a wild savage animal with no manners or sense of decency is lame. Seriously, if you want to act like a public asshole on tumblr, just don't come here anymore. This isn't specific to anyone, so let's not play games. If you can't be nice on tumblr, why should you pretend to be nice on the RPC? If you can't be nice about people who use the RPC on tumblr, why should you be on the RPC? In fact a lot of tumblr-centric people ruthlessly shit all over the RPC, and damn I'll be honest I gripe about the RPC from time to time too, maybe too much. However, I don't go on a public blog and go fullblast and then come here like its no big deal. A lot of people, I guess rightfully so, bitch and moan about cyber-bullying and witchhunts, and then get on their tumblr and do just that. Check yourselves or just leave. Damn. Recoil is mostly determined by mass and the size of the firearm, as well as caliber of the cartridge. If say, squalls prototypical gunblade was chambered in .454 there would be recoil there is no doubt, but it wouldn't go flying out of your hand or something. Pocket pistols can hurt people who limp-wrist them when they shoot due to having nothing to absorb the shock of the bullet firing except the wrist. I can imagine if someone swings a heavy sword around for a while, they've got the fortitude in their arm needed to fire a 'gun' with an awkward handle and stock to hold onto.

This is mostly wrong and completely ignores applying the principles of firearms to combat, in regards to their efficacy. A sword, I'm sorry, is just a sword. If youre aether-swinging it around sure its going to slice through stone or whatever else, but gunblades provide an interesting extra - a large bored firearm. Say what you will about your snowflake aether powers that make you bulletproof, catching a .454 sized round, or something above .500 is going to fucking destroy what it comes into contact with. It's not about 'vibrations', are you even familiar with how firearms work? People need to stop being deadset on how FF8's very...silly notion of Gunblades dictates their behavior here. The individual roleplayer here dictates that, not that terrible PS1 game. Bullet comes out, destroys what it can until it's out of energy. People get hung up on pulling the trigger of a gunblade mid slice, well thats how FF8 worked for extra damage on the normal Attack, but if you try to actually RP that you'd likely pull the trigger after you bury that sword into...whatever. Dragon's haunch, something like that. Or you could simply have a limited capacity ranged attack option. Not everyone has infinite naruto throwing knives and chakra magics to sling. Gunblades, in this sort of Fantasy setting, are crazy fucking overpowered if you line them up alongside most, if not all, hand weapons that are melee in nature. People who think their special suit of inherited armor are going to stop a bullet are plot-armoring too much.

I've been in this dilemma dozens of times, you learn to let it go and accept you can't always make the outfits you wanted to wear. I have a bit more flexibility IC since Otto is a non-combatant so I can be a wider range of jobs and therefore outfits, but sometimes you just have to, sadly, give up. The glamour system needs work.
