  1. Hello and welcome! The two main servers on this site are Balmung and Gilgamesh (NA servers). Both have a mixture of players from all timezones, NA players being the majority. However, there are players from several different servers here (Jenova, Famfrit, Behemoth, Cerberus, to name a few) and everyone is welcome
  2. I followed the tips in this guide to rotate between evaluation leves when leveling BOT. I'm not sure if it still works, but it did for me last month while leveling. I don't believe it does in Heavensward content, though. You do go through more GP this way, but at later levels I found I didn't mind having a break while waiting for it to replenish because it gets very grindy. Cordials are often quite cheap, too. Best of luck! I can also make any gear up to 50, so feel free to give me a shout.
  3. Look forward to seeing you! I'm also a Cerberus transfer, and haven't regret it. The community is incredibly welcoming to newcomers, so you'll fit right in.
  4. A very big welcome to the site and FFXIV! We're a friendly bunch, so please shoot us any lore or gameplay questions you may pick up. There are all sorts of timezones on Balmung and roleplay is available 24/7. I recommend checking out Nailah's great European Directory if you'd like to find some EU friendly groups - ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=9233 Look forward to seeing you around!

  6. I think everyone else has answered your question quite thoroughly. As you can see, there are many mixed opinions about it! Personally I don't agree with it used on a regular basis, but I have two friends who use it ICly all the time and are having much more fun roleplaying than I ever have haha. Whatever makes you happy! It just makes me sad as I find it difficult to roleplay with them because of this. Welcome back!
  7. Transferring does bypass the server being full, yes. It was open today after maintenance, so it would appear they're easing up a bit. If you don't wish to pay, there will probably be another maintenance soon as they're pretty regular at the moment with hotfixes. The first 10 minutes after it opens is usually a good time. Having your character saved and name/details ready to put in so it's as quick as possible helps too. Best of luck!
  8. The mechanics are all quite straight forward, so it's mostly just about a bit of coordination. I think SE have got it right with difficulty/story-mode. It's doable at i170 minimum and in a few months time people's ilvl will be higher once again. It won't be as daunting for anyone who doesn't do any raiding at all but wants to catch up on the story. I'm super interested to hear from anyone who doesn't raid to know what they think about it. :surprise: Please give me a shout if anyone would like a friendly face going into it! Looking forward to Savage mode.
  9. Glad you got onto Balmung! It'll be good to see another Roe around, there aren't enough
  10. Welcome back! Look forward to seeing you around
  11. This sounds wonderful, have been hoping to see an event pop up to so hopefully I can start RPing on my new character. Time zone permitting, am very interested!
  12. A very big (and late) welcome to you! Your icon is adorable. Many Free Companies are incredibly welcome to new folk, helping them get clears and learn the game, so you're never too new to join one -- that's what we're here for! As you've seen this site is very helpful with lore, so please be welcome to post any questions you may have. Look forward to seeing you around Balmung!
  13. Welcome! Maariya sounds like an interesting character - look forward to seeing you around
  14. In the end it's the quality of roleplay that matters to me, how the conversation is going, seeing our characters develop in some way. If someone said they were playing a powerful mage but were wearing level 1 clothes, I would go with it if they were believable and knew their mage lore. It makes me very happy if people do have the OOC to back it up, however. For me, the game is a vessel to see our characters come to life and provide the visual accompaniment. That's the point of us all roleplaying in game, making use of the world around us and basing our characters on the lore it provides. I certainly don't expect the powerful mage to actually be OOCly an outstanding player and hardcore raider, but it would be ideal if they'd leveled a mage class and have the props to help the immersion. I've never had a IC fight, but would have a big discussion beforehand about how good our characters are, and either use rolls or hope there's enough trust/respect between us both for it to work. OOC achievements wouldn't come into it.
  15. There are some interesting ideas here! I'm really excited. I just hope people remember that the things mentioned only have to be a small feature of the clan and don't have to define it or your character. To me that seemed like the biggest problem with Seeker tribes - everyone was so focused on the Nunh & breeding part of things, but there would be lots of other factors that made up the tribe too.
  16. Hello and welcome! It's lovely to see a new player here (especially another lalafell!) We're all friendly here, so please ask if you'd like help with gameplay or have any lore questions. Suviyo sounds like an interesting character, look forward to meeting her!
  17. No need to apologise at all! You have some really awesome ideas, and I'd love to see what you come up with. Would she work with all the GCs or just one? I wish we were on the same server, Serena sounds like she's a very interesting character that's for sure. & Yes, I know completely how you feel haha. A few months ago I was inspired by a completely different character and now my brain is going in another direction.
  18. I can see many more people roleplaying Ishgardian civilians once the gates open. Previously I don't think it was a very easy option to do, as there was little lore about the city and it was mostly from a military side of things. Now there will be endless opportunity - we'll see all sorts of characters emerging from Ishgard in the year to come, I expect. Hopefully the Heavensward hype will encourage people to leap on this opportunity for a new main roleplay area. I agree, it has a different atmosphere from the other main cities so could be really interesting in roleplay in.
  19. Could you tell us a bit more about your character? It may help people come forward if they know more about the sort of RP adventures you're aiming for. Best of luck finding a group!

    Hello! *bows*

Hello, welcome to HRC! On top of Riordyn's suggestion, if you haven't already I recommend having a snoop around the Linkshell tab above, at the Balmung section. Another LS I can recommend is Open RP, which is very friendly. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Do you have any idea of what direction you'd like your character to go in?
  21. Lots of things! So hyped. Nine more daaaaaays. I love the excited/curious feeling you get when entering a new area, so I'm looking forward to having that feeling again, although it won't last long. Alexander. When FCOB was released, I had only just started Second Coil. It'll be great to get in on the raid scene at an equal level to everyone else, do blind runs, and have to work out our own stategy. Raiding is my #1 favourite thing to do about the game, so I'm praying I can find a team who want to run it at release. Astrologist & Summoner! The SMN rework sounds VERY interesting. And lastly, just generally excited for roleplay. It's taken a while, but I have a lil' more confidence to put myself out there, so fingers crossed I can finally build some meaningful relationships on my character Nara, and maybe get involved in a plot of some sort. Edit: OH AND CRAFTING. NEW PRETTY FISHING AREAS. EVERYTHING. Just everything.
  22. Definitely possible! I think it would be quite restricted when roleplaying with others, though? Firstly, very few people have the PvP horse mount, so if you planned on teaching them to ride a horse or something it would be quite difficult to find people who could particpate. I also don't know anyone who RPs PvP directly. So while your character could be a Grand Company horse trainer, it would be a little limited when interacting with others aside from Serena talking about it, if that makes sense  Or at least - I can't think of anything, but I imagine you have many more ideas than I! BAn interesting idea and I'd love to see where it could go As far as the elemental horses go, that would be a much more difficult route to take. From my understanding they definitely aren't an egi, they are Nightmares, sacrificed from the beast tribes to their respective Primal, except Shiva's mount, which was a sacrificed Unicorn from her followers. If you decided to portray them as egis, it would require your character to be a Summoner. Hopefully someone could come and shed some light on Summoner lore, as I've read a few different interpretations and don't know right from wrong. It would be received quite subjectively: some would roll with it, others who are more strict when it comes to lore may not be so fond of the idea. Personally, I do second the idea that you go in the Chocobo Trainer direction. Your horse training/racing knowledge could easily be applied to chocobos, with a few tweaks. Chocobos are the Eorzean version of horses, and everyone could join in with it as OOCly we all have a Chocobo mount.
  23. It's certainly possible! It's a cool idea. I think it would be quite restricted when roleplaying with others, though? 25. I've never done anything like this, but would like to if it made sense and there was character progression out of it rather than just for the sake of it. I could see it being very fun, if constructed well. I really need to jump and and get involved with everyone. ._.
