I'd probably buy one myself if it meant having to skip 1-50 MSQ. Maybe there should be a level restriction on it for the account. For instance you have to have the MSQ 50 done, and at most it would be to level 50. Like the wedding attire, though I think they should get rid of that requirement for the wedding outfit. If only because I'm perpetually stuck mid-40s on Reine and I want a gown so bad. ;(

Others do the same, but failure to do so is something that can (and has been) reported. As mentioned above, OP responded in the Void, where no holds are barred, and no one said much despite having the freedom to do so. The topic was more important than digging into personal grievances. That's not always the case, but that's how the subforum is intended to work. Despite some public opinions, not everything posted there is trash. If you present an opinion and it holds water, people will acknowledge that. Yeah I'm pretty sure that if we really wanted to tear into her, we would have when she posted there. We can be so much more rude there than here. Again, as I stated in the Void, less directed at her and more 'when does it ever stop'. This certainly isn't going to be the last time it's brought up here, and it's not going to be the last time it's poked fun at in the Void (as it's been done before). Also I thought the Void was like Fight Club? You don't talk about Void Club Clique.

I think that's a pretty unfair assessment, and a bit hypocritical as well, considering your explanation of your own characters' creation. I wouldn't like to think that you consider the conception of your character to be pointless and done only for the sake of ~not being a special snowflake~. Actually, I hope you don't. I see no issue with someone playing a character that skirts the line of being some job, without actually being one (since as we know, even the most common soul crystals don't exactly grow on trees). I also see no issue with one such character eventually coming across a soul crystal and taking up the mantle, as your character did. Whether that happens or not is at the RPers discretion. But I fail to see the logic in saying someone who RPs as Average Joe McDarkKnight Lite is only doing so to avoid being a special snowflake? Maybe I'm missing something. Either way this is egregiously off-topic, so I apologize in advance for this. Good luck, OP. It's when someone's saying "but why do you need to be the actual job", in a thread where the OP is expressing that their character is a DRK and is asking after lore details, that I question whether the mention is coming from a place of thinking it would be genuinely constructive for a given storyline... or from simply thinking that anything job-shaped is Bad And OTT and anything more mundane is Good And Pure, which is an attitude I've come across before. Like, if you're forcing the invention of plot devices to bring DRK powers into the picture when what you actually want to do is play someone who just wields a greatsword (like those threads we get sometimes that boil down to "I want to play a character who uses X weapon but I don't want to roleplay X+1 job, is that feasible?"), that's one matter. But that doesn't seem to be the case with the topic at hand in this thread? My reply was made on the assumption we were still speaking in context of this thread's OP - I apologise if I misunderstood the intent of the poster I was replying to, or if my comment ended up incoherent with the context of the back-and-forth that I admit I didn't read very thoroughly. It morphed from the OP's questions to talking about very specific points of DRK lore (for instance, the one that ties DRKs to Ishgard). The poster was essentially giving a way to be a DRK from another area of the world without originating in Ishgard (before the expansion), but not actually being called a Dark Knight (since that's very specific to the group in/from Ishgard).

It's not that people want to avoid being 'special snowflakes', it's that people who want to follow lore to a T want to be able to play their character without later going 'oh crap, this new lore came out and now my character's story doesn't fit into it', or realizing that the lore for their Job doesn't allow a lot of wiggle room with backstories (such as WHM vs CNJ for example). Maybe they don't want to be pigeon-holed into a class, or maybe they realize that soul crystals are generally rare at large, or maybe if it's a Job with less lore they don't want to have to rewrite the character later. There are other reasons for people to play non-Job (or characters who skirt jobs) characters that aren't 'I don't want to be a special snowflake'. It's rather insulting to those who do play plainer characters. We have many reasons to play them; not everyone is going to have the same reasons. DRK happens to be one of those jobs that didn't have a lot of lore, and now that it does, people are trying to figure out how to make their character 'legit' in lore. One of the easiest ways to do that without tying them to Ishgard is to be a 'just' a dude who uses aether techniques coupled with his giant two-handed sword. A way to skirt the controversy of lore with WHMs is to be 'just' a dude who can use Conjury and heal things without having Succor.

It's forbidden. Basically, if I remember right, the Elementals choose people to be WHMs, because of Succor. That's why only Padjals are WHMs.

I think there's probably a lot of ways around the lore, retired Dragoons, etc. It's not the first time SE has said 'NO' and roleplayers have found a way around it. Though, maybe this could open discussions about jobs that are 'impossible' to have. I've never been one to care how people RP anyway, as long as they're not infringing on someone else's RP and enjoyment of the game.

Whoops I didn't even realize I needed to specify gender! BUT IT'S COOL I'LL JUST HAVE IT ON MARCIE.

And another edit! I heavily edited her face, so I included that too. I painted over the shadows and lighting, gave features more definition, added more and then changed her expression slightly. I added more cherry blossoms, and made her hair longer, it's what she would have looked like shortly before she left home.

I didn't do too much to this screenshot, just some smoothing out by painting over and making the eyes and scar stand out a bit more. I actually don't do a lot to his face usually because I like how his in game model looks. Then the usual photo adjustments!

I think this is more reasonable. I don't think people will buy them who already have FC houses and get the same room for cheaper (they're the same size, just 200k more expensive), or already own a house. People will get them for IC reasons, but honestly it's no different than an FC room, just a more localized place for RPers. I'd like to get one for Reine, for IC reasons since she's not affiliated with a group for an FC room, but it's not worth staying up for.

One is solicited, the other is not. You don't have to open up "Thancred at the Quicksand, Part XII" if you see it listed, but if you're RPing and he just shows up, you're forced to respond to it. I think that's probably the least defensible element. That's the element that is most likely to bother a person in the oc vs canon character imitation example. Being in the same place and not really having control of it. I'm speaking mostly (and broadly) about events, but those sorts of things can create some ugly continuity splinters. If half the people there are fine with Thancred turning up to get turnt up, and the other half aren't, how are they supposed to interact with one another? It's a messy, complicated mess, and the option to opt out always exists but isn't always deployed in a smooth manner. Pretty much this. That, and if they show up to an event... and so does another Thancred (which I have seen before, multiple NPCs showing up) who do we treat as the 'real' Thancred? There's also the issue of continuity. One Thancred does something, and someone else's Thancred does something else. Do we associate the actions to both Thancreds? Do we treat it as a one-shot, and it's not something that sticks? If so, that would go against quite a few roleplayers 'rules', like retconning something like that as never happening. I'm more ok with minor npcs than characters like the Scions etc.

... People do that o_O? Hoo boy. ... Also, nope. To each their own, but NPCs are supposed to be 'non-playable'. Most of the FFXIV NPCs have some sort of authority, or what you would consider above and beyond the average character's abilities.
