Honesty isn't always sunshine and rainbows. *shrugs* That makes... no sense at all.

Honestly, Mel, if you're trying your hardest to interact, then it's probably not your fault. Social events and gatherings in RP parallel much of what happens in real-life: people drift to their little cliques, ignore the rest (sometimes quite vehemently though it can also simply be by accident) and go on about their usual business. The only time these things tend to work out is if they're kept small and between people that are at the least OOC comfortable with each other. Otherwise? Not worth idling for hours hoping for the best.

Kind of sounds like the type of person Vetiver would enjoy taking care of. Can't say for sure without interaction, though!

I usually just go hide in my FC room.

Personally I've never understood the point of sticking with an MMO if RP is your only draw. Tabletop and message boards would be preferable and less restrictive at that point. That's not to say I don't have a handful of minor complaints with FFXIV, but overall, it's a rare, polished breed and a steady blend of interest in both RP and the game itself has kept me here. So clunky that every job can be successfully played on controller? Also, I'd argue that most jobs are better improvised to the situation at hand as opposed to following a specific rotation, DRG being one of the only exceptions I can think of and even then there's a handful of skills up to player discretion. As for the lack of varying builds, well... the fact you can change your role at the press of a button more or less counters that. FFXIV would probably be a nightmare if they introduced heavy stat and skill selection.

You're completely missing my point entirely. It has nothing to do with being 'politically correct', a poor excuse to begin with. Sensitivity towards people who actually deal with awkward and uncomfortable gender identity issues on a day-to-day basis is important. Like, really important. They get enough shit in real-life; no reason to carry it over into their chosen escape. I don't have a problem with ERP, either, but as a transwoman, I do not and will never appreciate anyone turning my situation into a vehicle for their fetishes while employing the usage of disrespectful terminology (tranny, shemale, etc.), virtual or not. It's disrespectful and above all, incredibly demeaning. Now I know for a fact Chiyo would have no intention of doing any of this, but for the sake of discussion, I feel it incredibly important to bring the subject up before feelings are incidentally hurt. Is that really so bad? Yeah, no, please read the above. It's not nitpicking in the slightest.

Two questions to consider before going through with such a concept: 1. Are you hoping to entertain some fetish? 2. Will this be the core focus to your character's being? If you answer is 'yes' to either, then I would suggest not going through with it; you're more likely to offend than anything else. It should also be noted that 'hermaphrodite' is considered dated at best and distasteful at worst. Think of it as akin to 'tranny'; just not a term anyone should have used to begin with.

Steel Wolf is always so kind and reassuring to those around her, even me despite us being little more than acquaintances. We should fix that some time... -
Love tragedy. Love woobies. As long as it's reasonably balanced and above all, plausible, I'm all for it.

Not really...? I'm far more attached to my two Raen than I've ever been with any other character in this game. Knowing their culture is essentially a fantasy version of feudal era Japan gives me more than enough to work with, not that it particularly matters; ethnicity doesn't define who or what a person is. Perhaps you're focusing too much on history and not enough on the present?

Mind if I throw Foxglove at her? I doubt Vetiver and Barbarccia would get along. -
The art of white magic is an Amdapori creation. It's stated as such in the quest dialog, clear as day. No point in arguing it whatsoever. Elementals stole it for themselves then flooded the city under the guise of supposed abuse. They would later pass it onto the people that would become known as Padjali. Also pretty blatantly stated. Now rather you consider the elementals in the right or question if Amdapor was really in the wrong in the first place... that's one thing. The above, however, really is not debatable in any way. I mean, you can try, but it's a futile effort in purposeful stubbornness. Ain't no one have time for that.

balmung Au Ra looking for all types of connections
Gone. replied to Aris's topic in Chronicled Connections
She sounds adorable. I'm sure Aris and Vetiver would get along well so long as she doesn't mind a bit of a cuddler! -
Start with plausibility, then attempt to meet your RP partner somewhere in the middle. If that isn't possible, then split on amiable terms. Not everyone's style is going to mesh with the person next to them, you know?

So I've got this new character creation of mine called Ginger Saldana: Fun, playful, but with a short temper; bit of a traditionalist Keeper. Left the Shroud behind to study all things arcane in Limsa for... reasons, though she's been seen wandering the region as of late. Wiki is still a work of progress, but I have this much down; should give y'all a good idea of what you might be getting into personality-wise: Not sure what I'm looking for, either, though she definitely needs connections bad. I've only managed to introduce her to two people so far and that's it. If anyone happens to be interested, feel free to poke me in-game (try Vetiver first as she is my main) or drop a PM here in the RPC. Thanks!

Eorzea is not a conservative place outside of racial issues, though. Twelveswood, La Noscea and Thanalan? All ruled by competent women. One of the most beloved side quests involves a crossdressing detective and many others feature openly LGBT characters. We're dealing with a sexually liberated game world with racial conflict holdovers. To consider Hydaelyn more liberal than our own planet understates the matter greatly. If you want to try and justify IC racism that's fine, but please, at least try to do it from a logical perspective.

Here's the thing: I love the game, something I haven't said about a Final Fantasy title since Tactics. That doesn't change, however, that FFXIV suffers from a handful of poor design choices, most of which could be easily adjusted, significantly improving QoL for everyone involved. Honestly, if I didn't like my time here, I wouldn't even bother saying anything in the first place. I don't have the time or will to complain about games I don't like, you know?

Legitimate challenge is one thing, but let's not confuse tedium with difficulty. There is nothing hard about farming for pretty things to wear whatsoever. Bland due to poor drop rates and pricing? You bet.

Especially with the current skill level of the average player base these days (i.e. not even trying). Most every leveling roulette involves me carrying my party through the storm. People always seem to be baffled when I say the game punishes you even more for multi-classing than it does just rolling another character, something already tedious to begin with. The reason, however, is simple: at least when it's a new character I have all those first-time bonuses for my job of choice, a luxury not granted when trying to level off-jobs. I do WHM, AST and DRG on Vetiver. Used to do BRD but I'm not crazy with the direction they took it in Heavensward so I dropped it. Fortunately I already have almost all the Law gear I want thanks to the reasonable pricing and various methods to obtain, something I can't say about the new AF equipment... WHM is too stuffy for Vetiver, but the AST and DRG sets? Must have for cosmetics. On the positive, at least they'll make it quicker/easier months from now...? Well, except for two things: 1. Raiding is such a minor portion of the game's content in general. 2. You can overgear everything but savage mode Alex with the base level token equipment. The same was true for all of 2.0 and Coil. All that really leaves is aesthetics/glamour/whatever outside of that bizarre, niche group of players that get some sort of gratification from watching numbers rise in negligible amounts. Now, maybe it's just me, but glamour should not take months at a time, especially in one of the most RP-friendly online RPGs ever made.
