You don't have to be lore-savvy, exactly, to roleplay (although knowing some things or two would indeed help~) with others... Trust me, I'm not so well-versed in it, myself but I see that it doesn't impede so much with my being able to roleplay with others! I can relate to the introvert bit though... It can be a little tough when you're pretty shy... But I'm sure you'll have some people willing to approach you and all (might work, too, if you roleplay your own actions to yourself... But that's just me, I haven't done that so often myself). Either, I believe you don't have anything to worry about. Just try out the advices that the others here have given you regarding the lore.. Ugh... I was able to get at least one character in before it closed... And I doubt it will be open for a few hours prior to the end of maintenance... I'm certainly not going to be staying up till around 5:00EST for them to reopen >.>

Welcome back! I know that discouraged feeling of not having the best of luck in finding people to rp with and the struggle over trying to find some.... But even it's been a week or so since I started here, I think I can dare say that you'll find those rps you desire for I definitely suggest trying to keep track of community events posted here that you may find that your character can get into (provided that your schedule is well-behaved for it). Otherwise, I personally say that hub locations, such as the Quicksand in Ul'dath. has some RP fishes that may or may not bite there... But I've seen others suggested to try out looking into the linkshells and such... which may help too! (P.S. There should be a way where you can either subscribe to the thread that allows you to receive notification of new replies where you can check through your control panel for any notifications on new post(s) on the threads you subscribed to... or subscribe where you'll receive an email notifying you of a new reply. The way to subscribe can be done prior to making your own post or by scrolling all the way down and it should say "subscribe to blah blah blah" and you can then choose whether to get email notification or not. In fact, if you search it up, one of them should be a forum specifically for all your skype-ing wants and desires~ Umm, I can only say this, personally, that The Quicksand in Ul'dath, and the city itself in the vicinity of The Quicksand, seems to be a hotspot for such a thing.
