Don't be a Crimson Duelist, and don't be a "master" of red magic and I imagine it's okay. Like I'm RPing Boulder as just beginning in his quest to learn Red Magic. It might be a little bit of a stretch, but now that there is contact beyond the wall, and in the questline itself they want to teach, I dont see why not.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Tyndles replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
*covers his NIN in Bloodbath* its so sweet. So, first time doing one of the new level 70 dungeons. The tank refuses to use their tank stance and loses aggro constantly. We ask politely for them to use it. "If you don't like the way I play, go wait in another hour queue lol" It was so bad, man. Why? -
I think if you're playing a Red Mage in the beginner learning stages, it's fine. Unless you are playing someone in Ala Mhigo, then more advanced is very doable.

Stormblood Early Access - The Revolution Will Not Be Organised
Tyndles replied to Nero's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Load into a seperate data center then go back, it worked for me. Just dont try to load any job/MSQ instances. So those are STILL broken? I just want to finish up the level 50 SAM stuff. :< SE said they are working, just extremely limited, but any time I've tried to load one in the last 3 hours I got kicked. -

balmung The Grindstone - Saturdays at 10 PM EST (9 PM Central)
Tyndles replied to YesGood's topic in Roleplay Events
I like the Grindstone, but it's popularity makes committing time to it anymore difficult because it takes a while! Have you considered altering the structure at all? Maybe I'm in the big minority, but changing it so instead of attack/defense its just highest roll per round so there is a guaranteed point and matches would take at most 5 rounds? -
If you and your friend are both RPers, then you'll both need to head to Mateus. If it's just a matter of doing content, you can use the group finder to do dungeons/trials/raids together.

My main character died at the hand of Ifrit. Or may we got tempered, idk, I don't really think beyond the "no longer playing him" phase. The character I'm working to start in Stormblood would probably get himself killed trying to get his hands on some sort of forbidden knowledge.
-
Thankfully this is not the attitude of most of the people going to Mateus, or it would be doomed to fail.

Comparing this situation to the Wyrmrest/Moon Guard situation is not accurate because this game lacks something that WoW has, and that's RP tags. WoW actively directed the entire population to places. You only have grass roots movements that I do hope are successful, but it's just not the same. If FFXIV decides to slap an RP tag on a low pop/new server that's where people will go. Everyone. Balmung included. It may take a while but people will migrate. ESPECIALLY if they offer a transfer of housing too. But I honestly think everyone that puts RP as their primary reason for playing the game would go even if they have to start without a house and can only take what their characters/retainers can bring.

That's what most people on this site want. I havent heard anything bad about Mateus, to be honest, though I haven't seen anything bad in my (albeit limited) time there.

The Importance of Consolidating RP on Balmung and Having One RP Hub

If people go to Mateus they can still raid with folks from Balmung. -
The Importance of Consolidating RP on Balmung and Having One RP Hub

I'm fairly certain Balmung is going to stay locked for a long while. Months at least. It's THAT overfilled, and Gilgamesh is not a good option unless you're going to create a community from near the ground up. (and it too, is very full and will not unlock for a long time) -

EU WoW servers want a word with you. We only had one roleplay server left in the end. Just because it worked on WoW US doesn't mean it will on FFXIV. To be fair, what FFXIV currently has in it's one locked and previously impossible to get onto without paying money server also is not working. There isn't really a middle option in this race. Yeah but a second server isn't magically going to establish itself either. I think it's happening though. It's not and will never be as big as Balmung, but it's slowly growing and if it ends up as a free transfer point I think it will be established. Better? Nah, but good for tthose that just want something smaller where everyone know each other. -
Why havent you let me in yyour club yet, Edvyn?

Is RP just a way for people to hook up these days?
Tyndles replied to Averis's topic in RP Discussion
Yahoo's default rooms were moderated, but the user created rooms (back before Yahoo took the option away) weren't. People did seek it out then, both privately and not, and it wasn't discouraged. I didn't stay on Yahoo very long before I migrated to AOL, I was only 16 or so and never ventured into their created rooms. I know that on AOL created rooms didnt have moderators IN them, but moderators stepped in if people called them. (messaging/booting people that were vulgar) -
Is RP just a way for people to hook up these days?
Tyndles replied to Averis's topic in RP Discussion
In the days of AOL/Yahoo RP, people pretended like they didn't ERP, and frowned on it, because AOL and Yahoo had active moderators that would regularly spy on each chat, or respond to moderations very quickly to keep their rooms family friendly. So RPers generally wanted to not get in trouble so it was very much discouraged, some groups even outright forbidding it's players from participating in it in private. (This never, ever worked) Once the big companies started to dwindle and not pay attention, the rooms people created became much more relaxed and open about their intent. (Anyone that ever played on AOL and went to a Gor room or an "Unclaimed Market/Palace" and didn't think ERPs was going to happen was dumb or ignorant) It was the same in early MMOs. Dark Age of Camelot, Everquest and UO had quicker GM response early on to lewd reports and stuff. So people discouraged that. But the companies stopped making it a priority at all, so people did it more openly, or outright advertised for it. There isn't anything wrong with that. Regardless, ERP was ALWAYS sought, in roughly the same % that it is now. THe method has become more public, that is all. -
Nah man, extra ability bloat in a game with ability bloat is not fun.

How're PVP folks reacting to the news NOT GOOD FRIEND NOT GOOD. Some pvp fcs have changed their tags to <9Butns> everyone is going nuts. I can't really blame them? But I have faith it won't be as world ending as they say. so regular PvE abilities wont be used at all, it will be PvP versions in the 9 button list? I might actually try PvP in this game now. It was horrid before.

From a story perspective, 3.0 was a lot of fun, after that though, not so much.

The Importance of Consolidating RP on Balmung and Having One RP Hub
Tyndles replied to Sig's topic in RP Discussion
I appreciate the need for a new RP server area, but let's not go to the other extreme. The fact is that Balmung will calm down and other than queues, things will be fine after a few weeks, like they were in Heavensward. -
The Importance of Consolidating RP on Balmung and Having One RP Hub
Tyndles replied to Sig's topic in RP Discussion
You cannot designate a hub if it does not welcome EVERYONE. Balmung does not welcome new players at the moment. I personally think there won't be enough people to leave Balmung for Mateaus for it to open within the next 6 months, and even if it does, those will only be to paid transfers. (because dollars) Do I know this for sure? No. But I know what is happening right now, and because of what is happening NOW, we cannot demand Balmung to be a place for RP to be consolidated NOW. To want otherwise is selfish and rude. -
ALL THE POO! Sorry, flashback to my time as a dogwalker.

Welcome! There's a good crowd here so you'll find something that suits you for sure. Be sure to check the linkshell/FC lists. Have fun! If you see me in game feel free to say hi! I dont get on quite as much as its the pre-expansion quiet, and I'm a PvE'er first, then an RPer, but I always welcome a friendly face.
