1. More even than any women, I think that the place has been pretty much taken over by that pirate crew in red clothes (I don't know if it has been ENSTABLISHED by them, though, but their behavior and the bar's name do kinda match). What they do with men is rather obvious both to speech bubbles and related quests. Of course, other patrons that for some reason wish to go to that bar are free to be lesbians or act however else they like.
2. Specifically about Hyurs and ears, it was brought to my attention that in Eorzea's settings, it's actually Hyurs (and Roes, I guess?) who are told to have "strange, short, round ears". So I think they're the ones who should get mocked at about them in this. At least, my characters do often make comments about Hyurs' weak and weird ears, much to the IC discontent (and OOC amusement) of my Hyur friends.
3. [spoiler=The following content has been hidden by mods due to potential spoilers
4. But she's not a lesbian. She and that other pirate guy have a thing/not-thing going on. And the bar isn't a lesbian bar. One of the NPCs explicitly says "The Sirens don't 'ave time for men, unless they's warmin' our beds." Please don't say untrue things and try to pass them off as true. It's called the 'Missing Member'. It might not strictly be a 'Lesbian Bar' but it's very clearly a female centric gathering point, primarily built around empowerment of female sexuality, and disliking of the 'ol gravy hose (at least on premises). I agree it's not 100% portrayed as a Lesbian bar, but I think there are enough hints to treat it as such. It's like if there was a bar in Ul'dah called, "The Throbbing Cock" and only dudes were there, and the NPCs were saying 'Heh, women are lame'. One could assume it was in fact a gay bar, even if there wasn't a male NPC shouting 'I LOVE DICK'. But there's specifically a female NPC saying exactly that outside the Missing Member. The bar is, and -only- is, a female-centric bar. Claiming it is a lesbian bar is untrue. Bringing a lesbian character to the bar is fine. But let's not spout off facts that are, in fact, not facts. Facts are: There are no hints that it is a lesbian bar. The captain, Rhoswen (a female), was ready and willing to be matched up with the rival pirate, Carvallain (a male) in the Valentione's quests. The female NPC (nameless) outside of the doors says what I said earlier. O'kalkaya, who stands at the edge of the bridge leading to the Missing Member, says "...Just watch yer tongue 'round Cap'n Rhoswen! Last man that didn't? Well, 'e's a member no more, if ye catch me drift." This suggests that the name of the bar isn't because men are unwelcome and it's full of lesbians, but because a man pissed her off and she cut his junk off. Now, I'm done derailing this topic, but I thought I'd jump in to make sure that when people say things, they make sure they're stating facts. Also, I'm pretty certain this is an implication of straight sex: It's not a lesbian bar, simply a crew of dominatrix/female empowerment style women. They consider men inferior and play with them like that.
5. "Son of a Seeker" (Eorzean version of "Son of a B!tch", referring to Nuhn's role in his tribe)
6. I said I don't know how to do it. It's okay to quote the thing you're talking about if you want a discussion, you know. Edit: It's more in the "For my free time, today I will remove 20-80% of the RP community from my radar and enjoy doing it!" that I can't understand. Aye, sorry, I was just lazy to hit the "quote" button. RPing a xenophobic or any other form of discriminative character does not imply cutting away people to RP with from the community, it's the other way around, actually. It gives more things to discuss, and more thrilling drama to fuel (strictly to an IC level). For example in my group we just recently got an Au Ra character, and my character is super annoyed at it. He has been trying to talk her into leaving the headquarters in which we stay, and then put himself against others who instead wanted her to stay. It's all acting, and all participants know it (we are all long-lasting friends), and I feel it will bring for some interesting future developments as my character will have to cope with the presence of someone he dislikes (and perhaps eventually accept her). But again I'd like to see more of this from others as well. To give is nice and all, but I wish I could receive some IC discrimination too sometimes. I like to put my characters through all kinds of crap. It helps them grow, and it gives me that good feeling that I'm not into a barbie world where everyone is unrealistically super duper nice and open to everyone and all. And remember, even if you're not racist, there's always a reason to distrust someone IC. Literally anyone in this world could stab you.
7. I'm not sure how to take the "I'm not racist IRL so I don't feel okay to RP racism." comment... Is that an implication that those who RP a xenophobic character ARE xenophobic IRL? Because that that point it gets offensive. Me, I see RP as an acting hobby. I love acting, I wish I could be an actor (actress, not so much, and I'm a female IRL, so that's a problem), and for such I always try to RP characters as different from my RL self, to give myself challenges. I RP characters of different gender than my own, different tastes, and different opinions. My main character is xenophobic, for one. Another is gay. Another is a moronic asshole. Another is a wealthy rich. All things I am not IRL. If we get to the point of thinking that people who RP a certain character must be like that IRL too, then that is where the issues begin. I doubt actors who play the role of murderers are psychopaths in real life who wish they could kill someone, or am I wrong?
8. Let's not forget tribes too. It took a lot of drake blood and all kinds of favors to get the U tribe to tell me where to find a damn sandworm, and even now when I go back to them they treat me like crap :dodgy:
9. This goes back to the thread I made short before HW's access, where I was bringing up the issue of the "Au Ra invasion". I encouraged people to try and delve into the conflicting reactions that often follow the arrival of many immigrants in your home country. Fear of the different, fear of seeing your job stolen by needy immigrants, of the raise of criminality (because if immigrants are not given enough resources to survive in the new country, criminality is their only option to keep on living), the fear of new traditions and habits. For example, I RPd Jet'a being highly xenophobic of them (he is to all races really, but even more to non-Eorzean). Who's to say that they are not beastmen? Who's to say they will not cry for their heretical gods (which are NOT the Twelve, despite what the Character Creator enforces with the Guardian selection) and summon forth a Primal to claim what Eorzea won't give them freely? And so on. When I made a Duskwight back at launch I was excited about the lore saying that this clan was discriminated by the rest of Gridania, and the Lancer storyline proved that, yet I never received any form of scorn or negativity from other roleplayers, and that depressed me a little. I have made Au Ras now hoping that maybe I'd see some of that, but so far no bite >.<....! I think what he was referring to was the main meaning of "conservatism". It derives from the latin "conservare" = save, preserve some thing to its original form, do not allow changes (the same can be found in the etimology of "tradition"). This implies that anything "different" is seen as negative for conservation, such as a new, different race, or simply someone who looks or acts differently from what we are used to. Hence why most of xenophobic-oriented parties will be found in the conservationist branch of a country's politics.
10. A lot of people are scared to do so. There is often pushback ooc when your character reacts in a prejudiced or racist manner. Yeah, it's a sad truth. Personally I'd like to see this side of Eorzea more respected. Less mixed races/mixed clans couples (there's waaaay too many of them), and more racism/prejudice/negative IC reactions to them. The good news is that my xenophobic character has lots of fodder, I guess?
11. This is pretty much impossible. By the time this guy lived (and his name was Narmer, not Narmur, and some scholars believe he was actually Menes), there were many other races already in the world, including China, Native American groups. Greece had been going strong for several thousand years, as well. We have records of them going back something like 10000 years, whereas the Egyptian civilization didn't even get started until approximately 3500 BCE. Narmer doesn't come along until ~3100 BCE. It's just math. Unless someone has no ancestors whatsoever, it is mathematically plausible that within 2000 years you will be part of everyone's tree. Read the article I linked. It's bringing up stuff studied by people who literally do nothing but math every day of their lives, so I don't feel in the right to contradict them <_<;
12. There is a prize for who votes, as well.
13. I'll stick to 7. I'm too afraid to try out new things >_> ...
14. Me, I'd like to see some single-braid hairstyle for males.
15. The rules demand the artwork to be original, so I think they also mean to avoid "trademark" hairstyles from other franchises or even other titles within SE's franchise itself (though I foresee some people entering Sephiroth's hair all the same). Oh. Well in that case I hope someone enters something original yet more akin to the fringe cuts like Thancreds so I can finally change my goddamn hair in game for once. I like hairstyles that eat away at the forehead and sides of the face like Noctis & Thancreds. Yeah, totally agree! (Also I wish Thancred's hair was extended to all race/genders... I'm so jealous of Midlander males, Au Ra males and Highlander females >.>)

17. Actually, it looks like you email them with the appropriate information. And, in a burst of inspiration and boredom, I MSPainted a hairdo and submitted it in the span of half an hour or so. It's a hairdo I'd love to see, but I'm sure folks will throw out something much more impressive both in idea and in display. Still, I figured I'd give it a try before my crippling self-doubt caught up with me. ... Now to curl up into a corner and wonder why the hell I sent a half-assed MSPaint hairstyle for this competition. What I meant is, as written in the contest rules, that they will select the hairstyles they are sent (via e-mail) and put them on the official forums for people to vote through Likes. If your hairstyle ends up in a moderator/dev post, put the link here was my suggestion.
18. to everyone wishing to make an entry, remember to not post them here or anywhere else until the results are out, or SE might disqualify you. Use the official forums (and if SE puts your hairstyle there, post a link here!)!
19. Read on! Adventurers of Eorzea are constantly ringing the Crystal Bell to summon Jandeaine, the artistic and talented Elezen who is quite possibly the busiest person in all the realm. The travelling aesthetician answers the call at the drop of a dime, and the time has come to give this stylist a bit of help. Don't worry, we won't be asking anyone to pick up a makeup kit and a pair of elegant shearing tools (think of the chaos!). Instead, we'd like to give Jandeaine new ideas for hairstyles by having adventurers submit their own hairstyle creations! The development and operations team will be selecting the finalists and then taking it to the forums for players to vote on their favorite male and female hairstyle. The two winning hairstyles will then be implemented into the game! 20. Actually it's the opposite, unless there are reasons to believe the population of Eorzea is declining (unlike RL population, which is increasing), the furthest back we go down the bloodline, the more the chances to have an ancestor in common are. From: http://all-that-is-interesting.com/famous-descendants 43 of 44 US Presidents were descendants of John I, and all races are descendants of Egyptian King Narmur.
21. Unless I am missing some HW information (I haven't played the expansion yet), that Au Ra are half demon is only mere speculation, not unlike the theories (so far disproven wrong) that they are half dragon or reptilian in any way. It'd be like implying that Miqo'te are part coeurl, no?
22. Assuming that genetics work the same way in Eorzea Hydaelyn as they do IRL, two different races do can have an offspring. It's when two different species mate that offsprings are either impossible, or sterile (see the cases of Hinny and Mule).
23. UPDATE: Considering the recent developments concerning SE's policy on housing/FC trading, we have decided to take down the offer. We will simply continue to gather gil and wait for a Large plot to open up to be claimed (we're at 60M anyway, that's not too far from being able to afford a fresh new lowest class large plot, yay! That took only a year and a half!). If you see a large plot available and would like to let us know, that would be great, of course, and we are also open to donations should you feel your pockets too heavy. However, keep in mind that when we get wind of a new large plot available, our current FC house will simply be relinquished and free for anyone to take it, so please don't ask us to "reserve" it (I've been getting a lot of those whispers, sadly). It wouldn't be fair for us to reserve it for anyone, considering all the requests we've been getting. Seen how the focus of the thread is over with, I will not mind if the mods decided to delete it. Thanks a lot everyone for your time and care! - The Rose of Sharon ORIGINAL POST: Hello all, Those few of you who know me well in-game are aware that for the past year (more or less. I started after 2.3's patch) I have been working tirelessly to get the Free Company I am a part of a Large house, for a variety of reasons that go from plot purposes to making my comrades happier. I don't have star-crafting classes, I don't do raids, and I don't have the RL riches to sell wedding bangles or dyes, so my gain in this year has not been extraordinary high. By crafting HQ low/mid level gear almost everyday (I had to take a break for my finals), and with some help from another FC member here and there, I was able up to this point to gather about 45M gil. In my naivety I thought that would be the amount I should look for, as that is the price Large plots reach after a full devaluation. However, it has come to my attention that the server has gotten richer, and as such when the next (if?) batch of wards will come, we will likely not be able to see Large plots devaluate low enough to buy them. They start somewhere between 70-90M, and I'm not sure that at my pace I will make it in time to reach that much gil. Needless to say, I can't even turn to pay people to relinquish a large house. Even if I was able to pay them to relinquish, I'd never have the gil to then buy the plot (since it'd start from 70-90M again) before someone else snatches it. So here I am now. After hearing that the option to change name to free companies is in the works, I'd like to turn to Free Company owners who for whatever reason may want to give up their FC with large house. It's a rare occurrence, but it is there. Our current offer is of 58M + a completely free relinquish of our small plot in the Mist, ward 7 plot 17. You do what you want with that. I will update this as I manage to rack up more gil, but for now this is what it is. I am well aware of the unlikelyhood of this kind of trade, so I'd appreciate if comments of the sort were kept elsewhere. I have been working hard (and am approaching mental exhaustion after a year of crafting) and I am doing this for my free company as much as I am for myself. Please respect this feeling and modulate any discussion you may desire to begin in this thread. Thank you, Blue
24. I'd assume the Archbishop is treated as the Pope IRL (though I'm more talking about Pope from the Middle Ages centuries rather than the modern Pope, who has lost some power since then). Either way, he is a holy figure and what closest I imagine we'd have to a god on the existing plane of things. His word is to be considered the word of the Gods themselves (or at least of Halone?), and only the Twelve themselves could have superior authority than him. This is of course all from an Ishgardian's point of view. While the High Houses all have homes in the city of Ishgard, I wouldn't say that all the noble houses have to live inside the city, but at LEAST be still in Ishgardian territory. The noble house of my character, the Laucent, has for example moved to Coerthas to raise chocobos, for example (pre-Calamity, when Coerthas was an ideal place to do such things). As for the inheritance thing, if it's how things worked IRL during the Middle Ages, the first male son is the heir unless he is disowned of his rights of succession. It could be different in-game, but I have yet to see any female at the lead of a noble house so far. (Note: As unlikely as a Keeper noble house would be, being the Keepers of matriarchal society, I could assume the head of the house would be the Matriarch, however).
