I had that issue until 10 minutes ago (been lasting for over half a hour). Seems to be working fine now.

To me it all comes with IC age and IC experience. A 23yo mage who has been practicing since she was 15 (8 years) should not claim to be more skilled than a 56yo wizard who has been practicing magic since he was 20 (36 years). Sure, she started earlier than him and maybe that is a sign of talent, but he still has over x4 her experience, and thus, to me, should be more skilled than her. With physical skills it's a bit more technical, since unlike magic, physique matters, and such while you grow more experienced with age, you also grow weaker. A middle-aged warrior who has been practicing since his twenties should rightfully be more skilled than the young one who just grabbed a sword and the old war veteran who could be his dad (though the war veteran would know more tricks, maybe some that could let him win despite his old age). As I said, more technical. My general rule of thumb is that you shouldn't claim to be young and yet a MASTER at well... anything. Mastering comes with experience. Ane experience requires age. Sorry, but young-super skilled works only in anime.

This made me cranky.

The other day I put on a movie (2-3 movies, actually) and did nothing but quests for 5 hours straight, with a couple WC breaks in between. It got me from level 50 to 51 (though, mind you, it was level 33-44 quests). Five hours to go from the end of Brayflox Longstop to the footsteps of Garuda, and that was plenty to give me a migraine. No one should be forced to do this just for the sake of getting an RP character in the right city their character should ICly live at. Gate MSQ if you want, and gate endgame. But leave areas and jobs out of that. Also, it's not true that new players "don't care, because all the game is new to them anyway". My best connational friend was about to jump the boat from XI to XIV when he saw DRK and then changed his mind upon hearing of the 2.55 gate. It was too much work for him to get to the job he wanted to RP as. And frankly, I couldn't blame him, considering that in FFXI you can use a Great Sword from the very start.

"Have you done any of 3.0?" "Nope I hate odd numbered patches. I skipped 1.0 also and hit 2.0 :3" ". . . . . What?" Or maybe they weren't interested in the content of HW and did not buy that expansion? Expansions are optional content, no one should expect everyone to have bought and played every single expansion. And I think this is another reason SE decided to not gate 4.0 behind 3.0 stuff. Back when I started FFXI in 2006, I had only the base game and Treasures of Aht Urhgan, and no one really gave me a hard time for not having done ZM or CoP. It'd be very sad to see a trend like that arise.

Devs: So, it seems only 4% of players switched or created Au Ra.... Yoshida: Hey, that's not bad! It's still higher than the percentage of housing owners!

I honestly prefer the Raen from a stricly strategic RP advantage point. The reason being. with the exception of the Hotgo, the Xaela require a tribe, thus other RPers (or RP NPCs), in order to follow their canon best. The Raen are instead known to be solitary, with no tribes. This would make it easier for you RP, have your character make sense being alone, and not depend on other RPers or NPCs. OF COURSE there are ways around it, such as RPing being an exiled, or having lost sight of your tribe, or having it have been annihilated (if you pick this, be either a Hotgo, or a tribe you made up. Don't claim other official tribes to have been slaughtered!), etc. etc. But I kind of expect these excuses to be used a lot (I used one of these for my Dotharl, since I have no RP friends playing Dotharls), since it's difficult to ALWAYS be in the company of fellow tribe members and ALWAYS be online when they do etc. etc., so you have to start with the mindset that your main RP experience as an Au Ra will be an individual one.

What's your MBTI Personality type? (Link to test here!)

And Jet'a proudly joins the INTJ club. INTJ Introvert(81%) iNtuitive(12%) Thinking(59%) Judging(59%) You have strong preference of Introversion over Extraversion (81%) You have slight preference of Intuition over Sensing (12%) You have distinct preference of Thinking over Feeling (59%) You have distinct preference of Judging over Perceiving (59%) -
Meh. If I had been able to choose the new Gold Saucer attraction, I would've much preferred it to be the ferris wheel (that you can already see at the top of the Gold Saucer miniature at the top of the main counter), or the beloved Ghost Hotel from FFVII. Or racing with other mounts. Stupid birds have all the glory.

I'm pretty sure Yoshida said in an interview that Ala Mhigo would be next (he was questioned about the Ala Mhigo artwork that could be found in the art books). As for the "theme" of the expansion... I know SE was initially "undecided between swimming and flying, but decided to go with flying first", so swimming could be the potential next theme. If not, I think climbing could also be a pretty cool new action to let us perform.

They did not say 4.0 would not continue 3.x's story. Only that they felt they might just not make 3.x completion a requirement, and instead offer a "summary" of it for those who might not wish to get the expansion (which should be something OPTIONAL in a game). They admitted that 2.55 + 3.x completion would be too insane of a gate for accessing an expansion's areas and jobs. Which, I wish they had realized from the beginning >.> *glares at all the alts who can't access Ishgard yet* Though, if there was a good thing FFXI did, that was offering new unique storylines at each expansion, and I would be happy to see XIV do the same.

Well, now X'elo has yet another reason to dislike my character.

Blue Vann She has no physical strength whatsoever. Ask her to slap you, and it'll be like she gently petted you. Jet'a Vann When someone says something that embarassess him, his tail puffs up, though he keeps a statue-like expression. Vincent Laucent Though he acts pure and innocent, his Elezen pride still strikes him from time to time, especially when he is mistaken for a woman or people bring him his young age. Aki Hitoame Due to her skin condition, when she blushes her face gets bluer, not redder. Yesui Hotgo She believed that the way babies are born was that a man and a woman must first get married, then have dinner together, and then the food would be digested and they'd poop a child instead of... that other stuff. Kujh'a Lihzeh He is terrified of women, and thinks they are all out there to kill him. Like, seriously. Clive Stark He is afraid of needles. And though he's allergic to fish, his dream for retirement at old age is to become a fisherman. He wouldn't eat the fish he catches, just hang it for trophy.

Differences and similarities between you and your character
Blue replied to 13uddy's topic in Fun Prompts
Similarities: * Jet'a and I are both left-handed in writing and right-handed for power-tasks. * Blue, Yesui, Valeria, Chiara, Dylise, Aki are, like me, females. * Chiara Foschiani and I shared (she's now retired) the same name and last name. Not going to list the differences because... everything else is different. I like to stray as far away from my real self as possible. -
[Balmung] Looking to buy a Free Company with Large Size Estate

Updated the post, as I've got a few more million gils to add to the offer. We're still looking! Help us get a place for wonderful RP events! -
It's the opposite, actually. The hand closer to the blade is the one that takes most of its weight, so it's the "strength" hand. While the ones that is furthest is the "precision" hand. Think of dogs or horses pulling sleighs or carriages. The dogs/horses who are tied closest to the sleigh/carriage will be the strongest, as they are the ones to pull most of its weight, while those in the front (and thus, most distant from the vehicle) are the keenest, in charge of guiding the others by pointing in the right direction. When I did archery IRL I was taught that our laterality depends on which side of the brain we use the most. This can be determined by finding out what your "dominant eye" is. Though we have two eyes, most of the work is done by just one of them, our dominant eye, while the other is used to see only that small percentage of our range that the dominant eye cannot cover. To find out which your dominant eye is, my archery teacher taught me this quick, easy exercise. Put your hands together in front of yourself to form a viewfinder. This can be done just with fingers, or with whole hands. Here is a picture: Now use your viewfinder on an object, any object that stands before you. After that, slowly move your hands towards your face, making sure the object remains in your finder the whole time. Do not look away. You will find that your hands will go towards one eye in particular. That is your dominant eye. In 90% of cases (there are some rare instances in which this seems to not be the case), your dominant eye is on the same side of your stronger arm, the hand that you use to move objects roughly, lift things, drink, or pull a bow's string. The other hand will instead be your precision hand, with which you do precision works such as sewing, cutting, writing (usually, as the strongest arm normally lacks the gentleness for a good, clean writing), or take aim with a weapon. In this case, that is the hand that holds the bow. EDIT: For some amusement, once you determined which your dominant eye/side of the brain is, take a look at this video!

Jet'a is left-handed when writing and right-handed for everything else, just like me IRL. It's the only similarity I decided to bring over from my real self to my character.

"Witty" characters, can they be roleplayed by the dumb?
Blue replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
Roleplaying is, first of all, acting. Shouldn't Robin Williams have acted as a doctor? Shouldn't Jim Carrey have played as a gay, or a lawyer? Because they don't know what it means to really be one and thus "cannot understand/portray them correctly"? Obviously we're all amateurs at acting, but RP is acting nonetheless, and as years go by roleplaying, so do your acting skills improve. You learn about your roles, you learn to do research where technical knowledge is required. Just as an actor goes from green to veteran. There is plenty of actors who have played roles of geniuses without being so in real life, and they gave good damn performances too, as well as horrible ones. It all depended on their experience, their preparation, and their acting skills. We are no different, we simply don't get paid to act. -
Is politely correcting someone's grammar/spelling offensive? Why?
Blue replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
I am Italian, English is a self-taught language to me, so I am doomed to make several typos still. Whether being corrected offends me or not depends on many factors, the most important of which being: 1 - Is the person correting me someone I consider a friend? Corrections by strangers or just acquaitances does irk me some. 2 - How often does this friend correct me? Even if it's a friend correcting my typo, if they do it over and over, not giving me a break, I might get irritated. 3 - Is the typo funny, or at least bad enough to change the meaning of the sentence? I understand if you correct me if I say "I'm broken!" instead of "I'm broke!", since it can be misleading, or if I emote my character to "shit on a chair" instead of "sit on a chair", cause that's hilarious and worth a laugh. But if you want to correct me for typing "misunderstantment" or "hte"... then you're nitpicking and that's not funny. At the same time, I've found that since English is not my main language, and it's actually an exercise for me to use, I tend to make typos a lot less than my English-speakers companions, and if those typos are funny, I tend to make fun of them, a lot >.> Like here: (I'm Kenjii, my friend is Avina) -
That sounds like a good idea! I'm gonna start a linkshell called Youth of Eorzea or something along those lines! Shoot me a /tell or a letter to Charla Evermist saying you want to join the linkshell and I'll send you an invite! See you all in game! <3 NOTE: THIS LINKSHELL WILL BE COMPLETELY OOC TO ARRANGE MEETINGS BETWEEN FELLOW YOUTH. THIS IS NOT A PLACE TO "HOOK UP" WITH A FELLOW YOUTH. AGE LIMITS WILL BE BETWEEN FOURTEEN AND TWENTY YEARS OF AGE. Um.... so am I rejected because my character is twelve...? I will change the minimum then. Woo! I'll look you up for a LS invite when I log, then!
