Yesui is a twelve years old. For obvious reasons, she cannot go wander away from home without escort, but if you ever happen to be by the Mist, you might catch her! (This picture is in Mor Dhona, but she was recently transferred to the Althaea's Orphanage in the Mist)

I can't do either but Nebbs can act as some sage like person, or maybe a way to speak with those who have passed over. That could be an option if I cant find anyone and I kill her mom off. Woah, you don't have to kill a character just because no one signs up for it, you know! Just RP her as an NPC. Most of RPers accept that, as far as I have seen.

If you have a friend with a house, or a house yourself, you might want to go do it there. The Bismark is a crafting guild, and these events generally attract a good amount of people. I think OOC crafters could feel a bit bothered by a spam of /say and /em in their chatlog, and some might even respond with griefing behaviors. Unless you do like the event of the Fullmoon Gala and have people sharing the same table form parties and RP in /p, so to not disturb non-RPers nearby. That was a great idea to me, and by far one of the events I enjoyed the most, especially because the parties/tables were randomized, so it encouraged making new friends!

*Quotes with sentiment* Japanglish is one of the worst curses of roleplay >_<; makes me cringe every tiiiiime..

We'll likely get something. Hopefully. I can't see them leaving us out. Well, the Laalfell in the group picture and the Au Ra male in the second picture certainly are using the same one. The most plausible guess is that they are universal among races, but still split by gender (as far as I'm seeing females are using poses from others races' females, and males poses from other races' males). Pretty positive the poses you see in that blog are shared among all races. They will likely still be gender-separated though. So yeah, Midlanders will at the very least get the cross-legged one.
-
I could have sworn that female Au Ra sitting pose was slightly different from the above? I remember the hands being in front for some reason (between their knees?). I dont play one though so I could be wrong There are slight differences such as where the hands are, but they are the same. It's kinda how all the /changepose 4 has everyone put their hands in their pockets somehow, or /changepose 3 has everyone doing a certain hand movement somehow. Different variations of the same pose, which I frankly approve. (Hand on groin) (Hand on calf) (Hand on inner knee) (Hand on the back) It seems the direction in which the legs are bent, as well as which leg is lifted up and which isn't, change. Again, minor differences that help us look different while giving everyone the opportunity to have a certain attitude.

There are female NPCs squatting outside the Missing Member, I see nothing vulgar about it. those NPCs do not have access to the gear PCs do but... hey, go bring it to SE. They're the one who did it. It's the same reason why they didn't allow bed laying outside of housing.
-
I don't think it will be universal among genders as well... some sitting are outright too girly for men (Miqo'te female's), and others would look too vulgar on women (Miqo'te male's). And considering that SE once went as far as re-editing a sitting pose for reasons of vulgarity (Mithra's in FFXI), I wouldn't see them going that far. But heck, at least both genders will be able to crouch already. Though I think non-Miqo'te men will look awkward in that cat squat pose.

Oh MY GODS! YES! YEEEES! Haven't been this excited about an update since /changeposes (yes, even HW didn't beat them for me)!

Also, I should point out, though this is nitpicking, that technically speaking airship flights are rare. Unlike in FFXI where an adventurer could just buy the pass (at an insane cost, though, unless you entered in the good graces of the Archduke), in FFXIV you can get the airship pass only by becoming an ambassador of your starting city through several exemplary deeds that get the city leader's attention. It's to be considered a rare prize, and this implies that passes are difficult to come by. The MSQ explains that due to Garleans' proximity and their cannons, airship flights are used scarcely and only for very extreme situations, as there is risk that the Castrums will shot them down at any time if spotted. So, while it IS nitpicking (because we've got chocobos and ferries too), I think it is fair to assume that Teleport travel is at least more frequently used than airships.

I would say that removing it from canon is a stretch, you can't decide to take something that is legitimately existing in the settings from others and say they can't do it anymore or that your character will not acknowledge them doing it. But you are very free to not use IC. Travel, no matter the speed, should always be taken seriously. Clothes need to be changed, you need to inform yourself on the weather of where you are about to go, consider the time to get there (especially in teleportation, sudden thermal drops or jumps could make you ill), and how long you will be staying, and where to stay as well. It needs a lot of thought, whether you teleport or not. So a group in Ishgard that suddenly decides to go to the beach? Eh, okay, I wouldn't but you can, but take some time to prepare for travel, and also prepare for inconveniences that could not allow you to come back home as soon as you wanted. In 1.0 aether teleport was a lot stricter (I think only IC Grand Company members could use it, or something of the sort). Now it's not, and everyone can do it.. to remove it from canon sounds like really too much.

You can do this now. Click on your username in the upper left corner, then click "User CP". Click "Group Memberships" under Miscellaneous, then click "Join Group" next to "No Gallery." As long as you're in the No Gallery group, the gallery will be hidden from the main page. You can use the same technique with the "No Chat" group to hide the chat system. Thank you! That's great! :moogle:

There is absolutely nothing "horrible" about this, or you are calling me horrible for doing this as well. I frankly wouldn't even consider it a confession... It's just common sense that should be in every good roleplayer. Roleplaying is acting, it's writing a script, it's directing your own movie. If a movie character you were watching suddenly moved to point A to point B without reason whatsoever, wouldn't you yell "WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING THERE NOW?!" at the screen? I know I would. So yeah, don't be ashamed of that, it's a good trait. ---------------- Also, new confession: I once saw an IC partner of an RP friend of mine ICly cheat on them... And didn't say anything. Because I was in that location OOC at the time. Oh, but I wish I had been there IC <.<

Not quite happy confessions, but confessions nonetheless. 1. Though I have been RPing for over ten years now, FFXIV was my first experience of an RP server. Prior to that, my RP was always within close-knit communities of me and a handful of friends. And well.... I confess that my expectations of open-world RP were a lot higher than what the truth revealed it to be. It was a nasty bitter bite to swallow during beta when I entered open world RP and found out it was nothing like I had imagined. Even worse when launch came and I realized things weren't going to change because "that was just the beta!". Oh well... sometimes I can be naive too, I guess. And mind you, I'm not addressing just the RP community, but the whole open world RP system, as well as the non-RP community. In my naivety, I had imagined open world RP as something close to The Sims, except the NPCs were players. I did not expect things like people jumping on tables, or players running around the streets without IC motive to do so, and so on. It was, again, naivety on my part, an utopistic dream that was sadly shattered >_< 2. Not really a confession since pretty much everyone knows that at this point, but... I roll my eyes and grimace every time I stumble on someone who feels the need to share their romantic/sexual RP-related actions in /em or /s... It's like having a couple kissing next to you and you can't look away (because the chatlog is there). I don't judge the people doing it, but the action, oh I do judge the action much. Eyeroll all the way. 3. I purposely do not visit the house of RPers with Personal Large Mansions because the politic voice in me tells me Large houses are not for single individuals to own. Shame on me. 4. I never log out. Sorry lobby server.

Given the current era and available technology, the existence of uncharted parts of Eorzea is pretty legit and likely.
-
I think the general etiquette when such incompatible forms of RP come to clash is to not try make one's point of view win over the other, and instead walk out, or just do one roll for who wins/who loses and then skip to the "after battle" part of RP. Then again, it's something that has never happened to me.

Hello, I know it's been a while since I last asked, so I was wondering if there were still ideas to give us the option to hide the picture gallery from the main forum page?

I think the boiling point of "intolerance" between races comes to wedding and offsprings, rather than to anything before that. I mean, look at prostitutes. They're mostly Miqo'te females, and yet Miqo'te males are rare, so who is giving those whores money? I think races do find each other attractive, but that Eorzea's society considers official engagement and marriage (and consequentially, birthgiving of hybrids) is just a huge no no that only a small percentage of rebellious couples will dare going through with, mostly at the cost of isolation, seclusion, or exile. The option to create hybrids is already sorta there in small details of the Character Creator: how both Miqo'te clans have access to the fluffy tail (characteristic of Keepers, by lore) and leonine tail (characteristic of Seekers, by lore), or odd eyes, too. I play a Keeper that is often mistaken/bullied to be a hybrid because he has odd eyes, and so people think there is Seeker blood in his heritage. Also in regards to the "show, don't tell" and Koji Fox's statement.... I'm a bit on both sides. On a side, I do agree that there is xenophobia and discrimination in Eorzea (I wouldn't say just racism, that's a bit of an understatement, racism is just a small part of discrimination and prejudice), but I don't agree to it because a dev said it. I agree to it because the game says it. At the same time, I don't quite agree that a dev's word should be taken as a golden rule even if the game does not show what they say. Devs are human, and their ideas and opinions change, and can be wrong at times. The game will not change its statements instead, and is more reliable than a human in keeping the same opinion. So, if the developer says Nuhns are rarely leaders, but the only NPC Seeker tribe in game has a Nuhn leader? I trust the game. So if the developer says Eorzea is mostly illiterate, but I spend half the game giving letters and messages to people left and right? I trust the game. But on this particular topic, both the game and the dev are saying the same thing, so, I have no problems living considering Eorzea's setting to have its issues.

I use Sleipnir to RP a dark unicorn as Jet'a's pet and mount (not as much to have a "sleipnir", but because the design of the other horses/unicorn mounts have a fucked up skeleton and no bardings / GC bardings only). It has been with him since he was introduced in the RP group and has plenty of character to have its own place in it. I suppose my RL knowledge of horses (I'm a former horse trainer) helps with that.

Sadly the awareness that our character cannot be ICly killed (or stabbed, or poisoned, or raped, or punched, or kidnapped, or robbed, etc.) without our OOC permission is one of the major cases of unconscious OOC leak you can find in most of the community, which leads to extreme boldness, self-confidence and unrealistic trust in other PCs too.

I play FFXI when there's maintenance or XIV bores me. *hides behind a shield*

What future game releases are you most looking forward to?
Blue replied to Dravus's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
The only one game that'd make me jump would be an MMORPG version of Wild Arms, but I don't think that is going to happen. Final Fantasy VII has a huge sentimental value to me (it's thanks to it that I've learned English), and for such I am very troubled and wary about the remake. For many obvious reasons it's going to lack a lot of things that the original had (battle system was already said to be different in an interview, and I don't really see a World Map being possible with today's high graphics requirements), so I'm obviously concerned about what it will become. I just hope they do it justice, however little.. Whatever they do, if they don't give me battle control of other party members I'm going to scream. -
A pretty nice "excuse" to have a character filled with discriminative prejudice is to have lived a tribal life. I'm talking to you, fellow Miqo'tes and Au Ra. Look at how the PC gets treated when trying to cooperate with the U to beat Titan. You get glared and spat on just for not being one of them, and you have to great strides to get their trust, often given even reluctantly. Why is Jet'a xenophobic? He has lived in a Keeper family without outside contacts for all his childhood, until said contacts did arrive, in the form of a rival band of Duskwights, who first raided his family's territory in the forest and then sold them off to Ul'dahn black marketeers. It all went downhill from there in terms of trusting others for my character. His family was also strictly religious, the Matriarch emphatizing several times to not trust the outsiders, those who are not part of the family (and among these there was a particular special distaste for Seekers because of their completely opposite social structure). So there is an example of what induces prejudice. Even if there hadn't been that raid in their camp, the simple tribal life that they conducted, isolated by all what's different is a pretty solid enough reason to discriminate. The stranger must not be welcomed with open arms, cause he could bite. This connects to my general complaint that there doesn't seem to be enough distrust in general, which I think is a sign of general OOC leak from the community to make bonds form as fast as possible between your character and someone else's. I've had RPers ICly approach me all too easily, all too openly, giving me information that I'd never give to someone I've met for the first time of my life. Do you really walk up to the drugstore and share half your infancy story or sexual life with the man behind the counter? Or with the guy reading the newspaper next to you as you wait for the bus? Maybe Forrest Gump would, but I want to think the average Joe would not. But I have said this plenty of times already, and in the end repeating it won't solve the issue. It's just me muttering at a rather consistent part of my open RP that I am not too fond of, and sadly "going to RP somewhere else" will not fix it.
-
Yeah, it's what I've been doing with the characters I want to be discriminated so far. It just gets depressing when, as I ICly discuss this with some other RPer, I get the "Oh, I'd never do that!/I've never seen that happen around here!" rigmarole. Especially as I try to portrait my Au Ra getting discriminated and unable to find a job or roof to stay at, it's a bitter spoonful to be ICly told that everything is merry and happy. The extensive amount of mixed couples who openly exhibit affection in public is just another version of that, as well. There's sooo many of them.
